Vista prompts "Do you want to scan and fix (iPod Name)"

My wife has a new T61 ThinkPad running Vista pro. Previously we connected her iPod to an XP desktop. With this new laptop it regularly prompts with a message "Do you want to scan and fix" the connected iPod, with the options to "Scan and fix (recommended)" or to "Continue without scanning". I don't want to have Vista do anything with the iPod other than work with iTunes.
Any ideas as to what is causing this message and how to stop it from appearing?

Is it iTunes or Windows itself that prompts you to scan the hard drive of your iPod?
If its Windows, then I'd ignore it. I had a similar problem after moving my iPod from XP to Vista (and my other MP3 player that's not made by Apple) and the problem is Vista itself and it's rather annoying ability to want to check everything. I scanned the iPod using the scan and fix Vista offered and it did nothing but mess up my iPod to the extent that I had to restore it and re-load all my music onto it (it also happened to my non-Apple MP3 player). I think it happens because Vista recognises the iPod as a hard-drive but due to some driver problems actually thinks that it is a corrupted hard-drive rather than an iPod and then it offers to scan and fix it (when it doesn't need fixing). So long as the iPod syncs with iTunes then I'd ignore it. The solution? To be honest I think short of using another Operating System you're going to be stuck with Vista and all the problems it has to offer. It's the reason why people are demanding new computers come pre-loaded with Windows XP even now despite Vista being out for over a year!

  • Microsoft Windows: "Do you want to Scan and Fix" message

Every time I plug my Ipod up to my computer, I get a window with this:
"Do you want to Scan and Fix ...(L:)?"
There might be a problem with some files on this device or disc. This can happen if you remove the device or disc before all files have been written to it.
    --> Scan and Fix (recommended)
    --> Continue without scanning
First, I've never disconnected my ipod without ejecting it from iTunes. Second, iTunes seems to have no trouble syncing to my ipod. Last my ipod appears to be working fine -- it plays songs and my games on it just fine. So I don't see that there is a problem. "My Computer" however, does not show the device and when I click scan and fix I get this message "The disk check could not be performed because Windows cannot access the disk".
Basically, I want to know if there really is a problem with my Ipod that does need to be fixed and I want to know how to get rid of the "Scan and Fix" window, because it's rather annoying.

Has anyone found a solution for to get rid of the scan and fix??? I am having the same problem.

  • WINDOWS wants to scan and fix IPOD Shuffle

My Shuffle worked flawlessly on my old laptop running Windows XP but now on my new laptop running Vista, a window keeps coming up asking me if I want to scan and fix my IPOD. I click continue without scanning and the IPOD usually works OK with Itunes but that window comes up everytime I sync the IPOD with Itunes.
Occasionally, the IPOD will have trouble syncing with Itunes. I restored the unit but that didn't eliminate the problem. I haven't reset the unit yet - not sure if that will help given that a full restore didn't help....
I believe that WINDOWS may think that the IPOD is a USB drive rather than a IPOD.....
    Ideas?

the fix here worked for me: http://www.futureofrealestatetechnology.com/general-real-estate-technology/resol ve-vista-scan-and-fix-error-when-plugging-in-ipod-or-other-devices/comment-page- 2/
in short open a command prompt and type "chkdsk g: /f"
replace the "g:" with the drive letter of your ipod.
    this worked for me.

Problems after virus disinfection, when I plug in my iPod, it asks if I want to scan and fix, but then it can't find the device. What should I try?

I used Avast and Malwarebytes. The computer was severly infected with the FBI virus. I had to do a repair reinstall of Windows 7. The client is upset about her iPod, which at this point is the only thing still having a problem. I'm not familiar with Apple products, but I told her I would research it.

  • Do I Want to Scan and Fix my IPOD? (F:) error with vista

After a week and ending up reinstalling vista and itunes I finally got my shuffle to work with itunes....However
I Keep getting this error message up. Itunes and ipod seem to be working fine, just annoying this comes up all the time. If I ask to fix it says there is no problem, and whichever response I give it reappears sporadically, I think every time the shuffle syncs with Itunes. Any ideas?

  • Windows Vista, Itunes 10.7, ipod Classic, scan and fix message - why?

I am trying to connect my wife's Ipod Classic to our Windows Vista computer.  I get a Scan and Fix Message for the Ipod from Windows.  I don't let it scan and click continue.  Itunes is frozen and won't recognize the ipod.  This has happened since upgrading to Itunes 10.7.  Also Itunes is choppy in playing all video content since upgrading to Itunes 10.7.
I have checked system requirements and driver upgrades.  So far I have no fix.  One site recommended turning off WiFi sync for all devices in Itunes.  But of course the device must be connected, and mine won't connect.  All my itunes video is languishing.  :-(

Wi-Fi sync won't apply since you have an iPod Classic and it doesn't contain any Wi-Fi hardware.

  • "Scan and Fix" message when syncing 5th Gen on Vista

When I sync my 5th generation Nano, I get a Windows message saying "there might be a problem with some files on this device or disk. This can happen if you remove the device...." It also allows you to click "Scan and Fix" or "Continue without scanning". If you click "Scan and Fix", you get an Explorer EXE that says "..disk check could not be performed because Windows can't access the disk". Otherwise, sync seems to go OK as far as I can tell. Any suggestions???

  • "Scan and Fix" message

I got a new computer and wasn't able to back it up. Therefore, I've been really wary with all the messages popping up on the computer because I don't want to lose all my songs. Anyways, one message asks if I want to scan and fix my ipod. If I click yes, will it erase my songs?

  • Windows 8, asked to Scan and Fix

    Hi All,
My iPod Classic (160GB) lives in my car, connected to a Parrot handsfree kit.  Today it stopped playing music and when I tried to access the device on the Parrot kit it gave a message saying that the software or device was not supported.  A few minutes later it then started to play some music.
I got home and plugged it in to my Windows 8 PC, the PC plays a sound to say something has been connected and it said there is a problem with the disk and asks if I want to Scan and Fix it.  I know from previous experience that this does nothing to fix issues with iPods.
The iPod was recognised in iTunes and did allow me to sync fine but it didn't appear in My Computer or in Disk Management. It appeared in Devices and Printers as an Apple USB device, not an iPod. In Device Manager it appeared as a USB device but with different information than seen in Devices and Printers and with an exclamation point next to it.
While the iPod was connected and seen in iTunes I tried the follwoing:
CHKDSK (http://yourlocaltech.com/blog/2008/02/24/resolve-vista-scan-and-fix-error-when-p lugging-in-ipod-or-other-devices/ . I found this while searching these forums for help) - it says that the volume can't be opened for direct access.
Update USB device driver through Device Manager - it said the driver is up to date.
Update driver through Devices and Printers - it said the driver is up to date.
Checked for software updates within iTunes - it is up to date.
Reset iPod using Menu and centre button.
I then ejected the iPod through iTunes and plugged it in again. This time the system made a sound to say it could see a new device then made a sound to say a devices was removed. iTunes no longer saw the iPod at this point.  After waiting a few minutes it went back to being seen by iTunes and Windows asking me to Scan and Fix.
Is it looking like my iPod is slowly dying or can this be fixed?

Your iPod filesystem is corrupted, so all your music is in the Others segment, but most of the time, Windows, can't successfully move/ remap the bad cluster. (timeouts?)
Do the iPod disk diagnostic on your iPod, as in this excellent earlier post by tt2.
It wont fix your problem, but help us in troubleshooting.

  • What will happen if i let windows 7 scan and fix my ipod?

Everytime that i plug in my ipod into my laptop lately windows 7 wants to scan and fix it. I know not to unplug my ipod without waiting for it to discconnect first so i know that's not the problem.I have been using this ipod on this laptop since i bought my laptop a year and half ago. I just started having the promblem with windows 7 wanting to scan it almost a week ago.I also update my itunes whenever the newest ipod comes out. My ipod also works just fine. What could be wrong with my ipod that it wants to scan and fix it? If i allow it to scan and fix it will it delete all of my music?

Maybe there is a setting in Windows that will prevent it from doing the scan.  But it is possible that the iPod's storage has data corruption.
If there are songs on the iPod that are not in your iTunes library, you are taking a risk because iPods can become broken or lost (or need a Restore because of data corruption).  Doing a "scan and fix" now may or may not do any harm, but you are likely to lose that music eventually.  If you want info on off-loading songs from an iPod, you can post back.
If all of the songs on the iPod are in your iTunes library, you should have iTunes do a Restore.  The Restore button is on the iPod's Summary screen in iTunes.  That will erase the iPod, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings. You can then re-sync everything back on the iPod.

  • Vista-scan and fix?

When I connect my 5th Gen ipod to the notebook i get a message from Vista asking whether it wants me to scan and fix my device. I have downloaded the latest MS Vista updates and patches but this still occurs.
Looking on the web I have seen a solution using chkdsk from the command prompt and have tried that as well. It too doesn't work for me. The response I get is that the device is using "RAW" format and that chkdsk is unable to work in this format.
My ipod and itunes are up to date because I had to download the latest version when i purchased this computer and I also update regularly.

I am having the same problem on my not-quite-2-year-old 5th generation. It's combined with an "Unknown Error -69" message that won't let the iPod sync, even though it shows as connected in iTunes. This just started with the update to version 8 iTunes. Today I have spent over three hours trying all the patches, including the Vista ones, but nothing works and NOW when I plug the iPod in (to both my laptop running Vista and my husband's, running XP) it refuses to do anything, saying the iPod is corrupted, and I need to restore. I restore, nothing happens. Basically I have a $300 paper weight - and since I restored, nothing is on it at all now.
I am beyond frustrated - we really can't e-mail or have a live chat with Apple techs? WTH kind of customer service is this?
Has anyone else had this issue? ANY other ideas?

  • Disable the prompt "Do you want to save the chnages you have made?"

    Hi,
I have a forms application with some text fields on it.
After the data is displyed on the text fields from the
database, one of the text fields gets highlighted
automatically, even though I have not selected it
    manually.
When I close the forms window, I get the
message prompt "Do you want to save the changes
you just made?",though nothing was changed in the
    text fields.
Can anyone help me get rid of these implicit forms messages?.
    Thanks
    sharath

    Hi
After the data is displyed on the text fields from the database
Are you displaying data through querying the base table through execute_query (or similar built-ins) or are you populating the block programatically?
In case you are querying the record, then form should not display save confirmation dialog box.
If you are populating the data block programatically and if the block is a database block then try including this as the last statement of your populating logic: -
    set_record_property(:system.cursor_record,<block_name>,status,query_status);

I am working in photshop elements 13 organizer, album view, and would like to resequence (rearrange) the photos shown in the album but am unable to do so.  My understanding is that you can click on the phots that you want to move and drag it to a new location within the same album.  After i select the photo that I want to move and click on the photo, I get a cirlcle with a diagonal throught it and am unable to drag the photo to its new location.  What am I doing wrong?  I know this should be a simple thing to do.  Thanks

    Jimmy RG
    In the Elements Organizer 13
The key to all this is to click on/select/highlight the Album that you have created in Local Albums.
Then make sure that the Sort By: (in the row below the highlighted "Media" header is set for Album Order.
You should see a number at the top left of each of thumbnails.
Then, click on the thumbnail that you want to move, hold down the click, and drag the thumbnail to the wanted new location
in the line up of thumbnails.
Often I had to press down hard on the drag.
Please let us know if that worked for you.
Also, in Edit Menu/Preferences/Keyword Tags and Albums/Enable Manual Sorting Options, I set all for manual.
