Vista shows Acrobat Reader 7 needs to be updated

When I go to Vista problem reports it shows that Acrobat Reader 7 needs to be updated as it is incompatible with Vista.
When I go to Uninstall Programs, it shows that I have Adobe Reader 9 installed. But at the top of the list there is an item that is called Acrobat.com. I'm wondering what that is? It appears to be a web site so why is it in my programs list?
Can anyone explain this to me?
Thanks

The Windows Installer Cleanup Utility will not remove your remaining Flash 9 OCX file; it won't probably even see Flash 9 anymore, as it had been (partially) removed.
There seems to be some kind of ownership problem with that file, that prevents you from deleting it. There are various tools on the Internet that allow you to assume ownership over a file, also some force-delete tools. Check Google.
The best way (for future Flash Player major updates, e.g. from 10 to 11) is to uninstall the thing, then do a new install instead of an upgrade. That should get rid of all associated files.
When I started using Secunia I found Flash 6, 7, 8 remains, and also very old Shockwave stuff. I use the uninstall method now for these players.

    I downloaded Pandora a while back. My 12 year old nieces were playing with my iPad and now the Pandora icon is not on my screen. The app store shows that it needs to be updated, but I can't do it. What can it do to recover my Pandora program?

    Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, my query is not so much about the sale of the company and the dream. I agree with you on that point. Good for them. My frustration is that this old app has now caused a glitch in my Apple App Store icon. I have a red badge with one update and it is referring to the old app that has been sold that needs to be updated. When I try to update the app it says no longer available for purchase. So I have since deleted that app in hopes that it would resolve the red badge issue. It has not. Somehow, that old app and the new app with the same name but by a different company has caused the glitch. I have reset all settings on my iPad, I have rebooted, I have deleted the app and still the red badge with the one update for the old app is there. Hmmm. . . I guess I need to take this into the Genius bar or wait for ios 7 in hopes that it will fix the glitch. Thanks again for your help.

  • After I update Keynote in the app store, it keeps showing up as needing to be updated

    After I update keynote from the app store, it keeps showing up as an update needed.  I have updated it 5 or 6 times and it still keeps showing up as needing to be updated.  Help!!!
    OS 10.6.8

    Is it still languishing in a cloned version of your system ... or in a copy somewhere. Were this the case, the App Store would locate it (or some remaining vestige) and think you still have it.
    Use Find any File or Easy Find to check it out.

    Flasher Player should be listed as a plugin in tools for it to work?

  • Cannot set File Association in Vista to Acrobat Reader 9.0

    After installing Acrobat Reader 9.0 on Vista Ultimate SP1, I am no longer able to associate the pdf extension with Reader. When attempting to change the pdf file association, Reader is not offered as an option. When clicking the Browse button and pointing to the Reader 9.0 file, it still is not offered as an option. Reader works fine when loading files from within the application.

  • Acrobat Reader 11.0.07 update causes LabVIEW application to crash

    Hi All,
    I wrote an application that uses the Adobe ActiveX element to display a PDF.
    This code used to work fine, but when I updated my acrobat reader from 11.0.06 to 11.0.07 it causes the application to start very briefly displaying the icon in the taskbar but then close (without an error or warning notification).
    When downgrading to 10.0.06 the problem was solved.
    Perhaps this can be of help for others who are experiencing problems with LabVIEW / Acrobat Reader.
    Chris

    This is a known problem that everybody is yelling about and the solution is to not upgrade to 11.0.07. You don't have to all the way back to V10. 11.0.06 works fine. Just remember to configure Acrobat to not automatically update itself.

  • I have just updated Java plugin but it still shows that it needs to be updated

    I have just updated Java(TM) platforn SE 7 U5 10.5.1.255 but it still says that it needs to be updated. Please help me with solving this issue. Thanks

    Hello,
    Please make sure where you are asking to be updated is a legitimate detector.
    To protect against potential Java vulnerabilities, Firefox now asks you to activate Java by default, for each website you visit that uses Java. When you see an "Activate Java" message box, simply click it to load the Java content normally.
    [[Image:Fx24-JavaActivate]]
    If there is no visible area to activate Java content in the page, click the plugin icon in the address bar. In the message panel that opens, choose "Allow Now" to enable Java content temporarily.
    [[Image:Fx24-JavaAllowNow]]
    The next time you visit the site or any other that uses Java you will see this message again. If you want to always activate Java for a particular site, you can use the "Allow and Remember" option shown above.
    For more information about using Java in Firefox, see the articles [[How to allow Java on trusted sites]] and [[Use the Java plugin to view interactive content on websites]].
    '''Important:''' After activating Java, you may see a security prompt, asking you to confirm that you want to run Java, or you may see an "Application Blocked" message, depending on the website and your security settings in the [http://www.java.com/en/download/help/jcp_security.xml#control%20panel Java Control Panel]. These messages come from Java itself, not from Firefox.
    For help with Java security prompts and "Application Blocked" messages, see the Java Help pages [http://www.java.com/en/download/help/appsecuritydialogs.xml What should I do when I see a security prompt from Java?] and [http://www.java.com/en/download/help/java_blocked.xml Why are Java applications blocked by your security settings with the latest Java?]
    Does this solve your problem? Let us know.

  • Anyone having problems with the Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 update on Win7 X64?

    I don't know about anyone else, but I sure am.  The symptom I'm getting is that the Acrobat Reader window will sporadically fail to open.  Looking at the process list with Sysinternals Process Explorer, I see that an Acrobat Reader task has been launched for every attempted open, but no windows show.  After clearing out all of the hung tasks, shutting down and re-launching the program trying to launch Acrobat Reader gives some relief for a while.  I have never seen Acrobat Reader display these symptoms before.  As a test, I de-installed Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 completely, and performed a complete fresh install of 11.0.8, which works flawlessly (and had been since it was installed).  I don't want to go back to 11.0.8 because of the security exposures, but I can't get any useful work done in 11.0.9 because I can't reliably open documents!!!  If anyone else knows of an official problem record for this, or is experiencing the same symptoms, or knows of any workarounds, I love to hear about it.
    Thanks.

Adobe technical support unable to help other than by suggesting I post message on here. Any speedy help would be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

    I have just rung Samsung and the software is not necessary. All I had to do was plug in and go. All photos successfully installed on my computer, so I have wasted hours of trying to get the software suitably compatible.
    And all it took was a short phone call.

  • Unable to open two PDF's at once in Acrobat Reader 9.1.1

    Hello:
    We are having problems at the company I work at when trying to two PDF's at once.   When the second one is opened, it reboots the computer.  There are no errors showing in Event Viewer.  There are no firewalls that would be causing this issue.

    Try disabling Protected Mode (see Pat's response here: Anyone having problems with the Acrobat Reader 11.0.9 update on Win7 X64?) and see if that helps...

  • Acrobat Reader not detected

    Hi
    I have enrolled in the Microsoft IT academy, and was able to complete the work, when one day the check at the beginning no longer detected acrobat reader plugin.  i updated and reinstalled acrobat reader, but it is still not picking up the plugin.  how do i fix this?
    thanks

    Interesting, thank you. Just a mistake, I think, or a very old site. It stopped being called Acrobat Reader almost 10 years ago.
    My advice is to test that Adobe Reader is able to show a PDF in your browser window (NOT in the Adobe Reader window). Here's a link to try: http://www.adobe.com/products/postscript/pdfs/PackingLightBrochure.pdf
    What happens?

  • I can't see the contents of some PDF's since I installed Acrobat Reader X

    My OS is Windows 7 Pro
    The PDF's are good because in MS Outlook 2010 (preview) or with earlier versions of Acrobat (Acrobat 9 or less) I see correctly the document.
    These PDF's are created automatically by external sites (eg home banking) and contains text (showing bank transfers or extracts)
    Can Anyone help-me, I don't want to install a older version of acrobat but I can´t see other solution
    Regards and thanks

    I, I have the Acrobat Reader X, its completely Updated
    Thanks for the help. I already try to change the parameter
    Try Edit>Preferences>General>Application startup and deselect "Enable protected mode at startup."
    But with the some results, the reader doesn’t say anything and show a blank screen.
    It's very strange.

  • Acrobat Reader MDT Install String

    I have configured a transform file for Acrobat Reader and want to update to the 10.1.4 patch. I am trying to install Acrobat Reader using this command via MDT:
    msiexec /i AcroRead.msi PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd1014.msp TRANSFORMS=AcroRead.mst /qb
    It works fine directly on the machine, but gives an error of 1619 in the log file...
    Has anyone done this before or can offer any suggestions to try?

    Have you tried using the Adobe Customization Wizard? Your setup.ini would just need to contain direction for the patch.
    Example:
    [Startup]
    RequireOS=Windows 2000
    RequireMSI=3.0
    RequireIE=6.0.2600.0
    [Product]
    msi=AcroRead.msi
    CmdLine=TRANSFORMS="AcroRead.mst"
    PATCH=AdbeRdrUpd1014.msp

    Here is what my setup.ini file states:
    [Startup]

  • Acrobat Reader 11 kills Java on Win7

    Allowed Acrobat Reader to update to latest version - 11. Now java won't work on my Win7 Enterprise machine.  Acrobat Reader has forced itself to be associated with .jar files and prevents java from executing.  Removing AR 11 allows java to work fine, installing AR 11 kills all java - it looks like AR 11 intercepts the .jar file and java.exe executions.   From a command line with AR 11 installed the response to "java -v" is "unable to start JAVA VM".
    Without AR11 installed java works without a problem.  With it installed Win7 won't allow file association for .jar files to be changed back to java - it stays at Acrobat Reader even after registry updates. It looks like something in AR associated service is changing it back to AR instead of allowing .jar files to stay associated with java.
    What is AR 11 trying to do with .jar files? Is this intentional or a bug? It's causing problems because the computers need both Java programs and a PDF reader.

    Do you see other symptoms, as in this article http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/application-file-icons-change-acrobat.html
