Vista SP1 and CS3

Can anyone report improvements in AE performance with Windows Service Pack 1? How about hardware compatability? We want to move up to Vista but we don't need more bugs.

Just updated last Thursday to SP1 (Vista Ultimate) on my MacBook Pro and so far I haven't observed any strangeness. Should not be much different and even Aero is behaving better (it disables/ enables more elegantly with less screen popping), which should improve stability and compatibility. Only installing the Service Pack was a pain as for some reason on my German system I had to use the standalone package and take extra steps, but that may not apply to you.

Vista SP1 and the Sigma Tel driver issue

I've done a fair bit of reading about why Vista SP1 does not show up for some people in Windows Update and for me its almost certainly down to the Sigma Tel audio drivers on my MacBook Pro (Feb 2006).
N.B. I have installed the latest BootCamp 2.1 32bit update and this did not change anything. Also I should mention this is a clean Vista install and I have not used a pre release version of SP1 either.
Apparently Sigma Tel sold off their audio division and is therefore no longer updating the software drivers. Microsoft have said they plan to address this driver incompatibility with their own update at some point. This was the response another user received from MS tech support:
"Kindly wait for further updates from microsoft which addresses the sigma audio driver compatibilty issues with service pack1."
OK, so they understand and are looking into it, but it also seems like it would be down to the new SigmaTel owners to solve - IDT posted this statement, which suggest they think there is no need to update their drivers:

I have tried 'Resolution B' from that link, but after removing the Sigma Tel audio driver, Vista SP1 still did not show up in Windows Update and I don't want to force install (via the download link) if Vista is not happy with my setup.
Does anyone have the definitive answer to this situation? It looks like I just need to wait a little longer, but I just wanted to check I've not missed something important.

Firstly, at the risk of being patronising, use winclone to image your BC partition. It works brilliantly.
Secondly, I have a late 2006 MBP (2.33GHz) with Vista on BC and running Fusion. MS Update did not offer the SP1 upgrade so I used the standalone installer. The sound works perfectly but I have found that there is a nasty bug in the video driver (X1600), which causes an immediate reboot if you try to adjust the screen brightness. It works fine so long as you don't touch the F1 and F2 keys. I used the BC systray app to asign the F keys to MS software rather than Mac hardware to avoid inadvertently tripping this fault.
If you don't mind this nasty little funny lurking on your system then SP1 is worth installing. For example Safari on Vista opens much quicker than on OS X 10.5.2
Vista SP1 works perfectly in Fusion.

WRT110 crashes with Vista SP1 and Intel 3945

I have a WRT110 with the latest firmware 1.0.4, an a Dell XPS1330 with the Intel 3945abg wireless card and the latest drivers in Intel. When ever my laptop tries to connect the router crashes and drops all other connections with other wireless devies and wired devices. I also have another laptop running XP that works great on the wireless connection. It's same to say the problem is limited to the Vista machine and the Intel 3945 wireless card. Now sure what to do?

I have the same problem. Took me a while to figure out that when i connected my Toshiba laptop with Vista and Intel 3945 Router and network crashed couldnot even get the router accessed on hardwired computer. Everything returns back to normal when laptop disconnected from wireless network
Customer support was not able to help, called them twice. I solved by connecting an old wireless router to one of the ports of Linksys and connect my Vista laptop on that wireless network. That is not really a solution but if you'd like to, return the router until they can at least admit that there is a problem with compatibility, upgrading firmware on wireless adaptor did not help.

Vista sp1 and restoring T61 with thinkvantage to factory default

Hi, I already have Vista SP1 installed on my T61, but is it possible to make the image in the hidden partition Vista SP1 as well? (So after I do a reset to factory default in the future, it will already have SP1 installed). thanks!

Windows Vista SP1 and Safari

I have tried out previous versions of Safari for Windows and they seemed to run fine but I have installed SP1 for Vista and now Safari will not connect to any website. It always tells me that it cant connect to the server. I am running version 3.1 of Safari.
Has anybody else had this problem and is there a fix for this?

The final release for Vista Service Pack 1 will not be released until mid-April (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/sp1.mspx). That means that you are using the bug and glitch SP1 (either the release candidate, release candidate refresh 1, or release candidate refresh 2). That is why you are having so many problems. Have fun removing which ever release candidate you have installed cause there are many others that are having issues releasing it.

Windows Vista SP1 and Audigy 4 problem with

After updating to Vista SP the subwoofer and front speakers channels were disabled on Audigy 4. There are no signal from them. Now if I choose 5. option for speakers I have only surround and central speakers working. Tried to reinstall the driver but with no result.
The system was absolutely Okay with the same driver before SP. Help, please!!!
Driver version is 2-2-0002. It is the only thing support page has for Vista.

Do yourself a favor and uninstall that bug infested, intentionally crippled piece of crap driver and install this one,

Vista x64 with an Audigy 4 here and it works and sounds better than it ever did in XP using Daniel's driver package.

VISTA sp1 And Creative SB Audi

Can anyone tell me why after . Takeing out the card 2. Cleaning WDM drivers numerous times 3. I get this error message. And it wont let me install ANY drivers.

I actually bought that card and sent it back and got a fataility version, which was a waste of money too.
Simple fact is, x-fi drivers and hardware don't work as well as they should in xp, talking about crackling poping, hard ware incompatiblity and so on. However in some cases they work fine.
Unfortunately it's nearly 2 years since Vista has been available to try/use, creative have yet to release a fully working driver for it with all features working perfectly, we now know they don't intend to, in fact they actually gimp some of the features by disabling them in the drivers.
I have used vista/xp for a while now but intend to use only vista, now I bought the x-fi card at the end of last year when it was marketed as working with Vista, because it doesn't I want to get my money back. If I can't get a refund from creative, then I can use the consumer watchdog in my country and it won't cost me anything.
If I were you I would return my card immediately and get a refund and buy something else.

Vista SP1 and Volume Panel, X-Fi

System is Vista Business SP x86 with Soundblaster X-FI Extreme Music. Tray Icon works, but the Volume Panel doesn't open. It is a new clean install.

Like I've said in my post, The download file "Creative Console Launcher 2.60.29" is the ONLY update that has the Volume Panel software.
2.60.35A and 2.6.09 does NOT!, I known what for a long time.
Thus, downloading and extract the file "Creative Console Launcher 2.60.29" to get only the Volume Panel software and install.
Then, download and Install the latest "Creative Console Launcher 2.6.09" software.
I've done this many many MANY times and I know what I'm doing and I'm saving time, not wasting time.
Wasting time is installing all three updates, instead of just the Volume Panel software and the "Creative Console Launcher 2.6.09" update.

I should have posted this earlier, but anyway. I restored my laptop to factory version after backing up any useful data, and the first thing I the laptop was restored was connect to the internet, download and install the latest version of iTunes. And Bingo! It worked.

Can't add program with Install feature using Palm 6.2, Vista SP1 and LifeDrive

Hi,
I am trying to add FileZ to my Palm. I click Install from the sidebar of the desktop, then Add and point to the filez.prc file. However I get a message saying the file cannot be copied. The tool the installer is using to do this is the QuckInstall tool. Should I be using another tool? I've heard QuickInstall doesn't work with 6.2.

You are correct in what you heard, monk66 - Quick Install does not work in version 6.2.
6.2 uses it's own "Installation Tool" to put files into the Hotsync queue. You can find it in two places.
1. Right click on the HotSync Manager icon and choose "Install".
2. Start Button/All Programs/Palm/Install Tool.

my media center doesn't work with VISTA SP1 and a TV@nywhere pro ,if i come back to vista standart, it works again.
simply the media center starts, but when i select tv for source it remains in loading with the logo on screen.
think i need a patch , like for the PLUS version.

TV tuner cannot be used in Vista SP1 - Qosmio G

I have installed the Vista SP1, and when I try to see TV in media center, it says that "a required windows media center component is missing" or something like that.
When I try to configure it in the settings, it says that the hardware was not detected, and I have it installed, I can see that in the device manager.
Does some one have the same problem or have any ideas about how can I solve this?

I have googled a little bit to find out what this error message could mean but it looks like this error is not specific.
This mean that different reasons could causes this issue
In you case I presume that the SP1 is not fully compatible with the TV tuner driver or the TV tuner does not work and could be recognized by MCE due to the tuner driver malfunction.
Sp my first advice would be the Tv tuner reinstallation.
Firstly remove the old driver from the device manager and then after a short reboot install the new downloaded driver.

Strange sign in Vista SP1 folders

Dear friends
I use Vista+SP1 and so far everything seems to be ok, but I notice something strange when I open the windows explorer
In some folders,not in all, like <<Local settings, for instance,I see a small sign under this folder and when I try to open it
I get the error <<C:\ Users\ Local Setings is not accessibleAccess is denied>>, like to be locked for some reason, this happens not from the beginning.
I mean when I installed the Vista but after some time of use.
I susspect that needs some adjustment somewhere, but I don't know where.If anybody can help.

No, this is just a normal behaviour of Vista due to its semi new file system, or better how it handles some folders and files.
As an information for you, this folder has the shortcut symbol on it, I think you meant this?
And that's because of Vista's file and folder linking, or whatever I should call it now.

Vista SP1 problem on Satellite A210

Hello,
I just installed the Vista SP1 and since that my notebook doesn't reboot or shut down properly. If I choose "shutdown" the shutdown-screen appears, but the notebook does not shut down. Then the monitor turns black and that's it.
Did enyone encounter the same problem after installing SP1? I deinstalled the SP1 and since that everything works fine again.
By the way, I can't download any driver updates for my Satellite A210 since this evening. When I choose the options in the menu and klick search the website says: no drivers found!

I agree with you in the fact, that testing takes its time. Most of the drivers for my A210 are from around summer 2007.
I don't know when the Vista SP1 testing phase started, but I think Toshiba had plenty of time to adjust drivers, as many other manufacturers did.
So why not Toshiba?
I got the SP1 via Windows Update and thought that everything would be fine.
Yes, I know, the "early adopters" ;-)!
So the SP1 was installed...and...the problems occurred!
So I went on the Toshiba website - no information (as they did with the bandwidth problems in the drivers download section in January and February).
In the drivers section: no drivers. How comes, that a companies don't support SP1 and its nowhere announced?
I don't care, if Toshiba updates the drivers once in ten years, as long as everything works fine.
