Vista SP1 = faster performance; almost as good as XP

This is almost the wrong place to talk about it, but I'm going to put it on my Mac Pro when it arrives. I downloaded the leaked SP1 (no point in hiding it when its already gone RTM). I find alot of my apps to load much faster. Office 2007 apps loads almost instantly. Adobe Reader lots much much faster.
Ultimately, I'm trying to get Crysis to run well with this system. Hopefully Crysis will get the SP1 improvement too (I haven't even tried to install it on Vista yet). I know there are "hacks" to get Crysis to display very high (reserved for Vista/DirectX 10), but I'm hoping it won't be too bad overall with at least high settings and a good resolution.
Anyone else tested SP1?

Maybe you don't sites discuss SP1, even ComputerWorld-type sites have said this is one of the reasons, even though it went RTM, that there could still be some updates, patches, and drivers, between now and when it shows up in Windows Update.

  • Qosmio G30: Conflict between Sigmatel audio driver and Vista SP1

    Hello,
I have a Qosmio G30 PQG32E notebook and can't upgrade to Vista SP1 because the Sigmatel driver (6.10.5462.0) is conflicting with the service pack.
As some of you might know, Sigmatel no longer exists and IDT who bought them is as good as non-existent, saying to contact the OEM directly for updated drivers.
Is there any plan to upgrade the audio driver ?
There are huge memory leaks in my case from the audio driver.
When using Photoshop or Premiere Pro, the audiodg.exe proccess consumes 800MB and more after one hour of continuous work.
I am hoping for an updated more stable driver, and more stability from SP1.
    Am I a dreamer?

Have your problems started after SP1 installation? Just for info: at the moment Toshiba does not support SP1. I really believe that you have some troubles and because of that I still wait with SP1 installation.
You are right about Qosmio. It costs a lot of money but using delivered recovery image installation you will not have any problem. About memory and how much resources Vista needs you can read everywhere. Even if you close some application RAM will still be occupied with different information. If you start the same application again you will see that application starts second time much faster.
    It is Vista!!!
You have really nice notebook and you should upgrade RAM to maximum level. I am pretty the notebook will runs much better and of course faster. For such notebook 2 GB for Vista is really the minimum.

  • 'Windows cannot install required files' error while installing Vista SP1

I'm installing Vista Client SP1 on my Macbook pro and getting the following error:
Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation.
Almost exactly as described in this KB article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/930984/ except my error code is 0x80070017. I'm double-checked CRC on my dvd to ensure it's not corrupt. Also I've previously successfully installed Vista SP1 from the SAME DVD on a different Mac Leopard (desktop)
Any ideas? This is a new Macbook pro, just got it yesterday. Could be DVD drive issue?
    Thanks!

Did you get far enough to delete the FAT partition BootCamp created, so you could create a new NTFS one?

  • TV tuner cannot be used in Vista SP1 - Qosmio G

    Hi
I have installed the Vista SP1, and when I try to see TV in media center, it says that "a required windows media center component is missing" or something like that.
When I try to configure it in the settings, it says that the hardware was not detected, and I have it installed, I can see that in the device manager.
Does some one have the same problem or have any ideas about how can I solve this?
    Thanks,
    Rafael

    Hi
I have googled a little bit to find out what this error message could mean but it looks like this error is not specific.
This mean that different reasons could causes this issue
In you case I presume that the SP1 is not fully compatible with the TV tuner driver or the TV tuner does not work and could be recognized by MCE due to the tuner driver malfunction.
Sp my first advice would be the Tv tuner reinstallation.
Firstly remove the old driver from the device manager and then after a short reboot install the new downloaded driver.
    Good luck

  • Vista SP1 - CF Service will not start

Running Vista Business. Life was good, I was productive! (CF 8 btw).
After installing Vista SP1, CF service will not start. Digging a little deeper, turns out JRUN can't fire off "coldfusion", one of the servers listed. Here is the error:
04/06 11:49:20 error Failed to create new connection
    java.net.SocketException: select failed

    at java.net.ServerSocket.accept(ServerSocket.java:421)
    at jrun.jms.core.kernel.mipc.MultiplexConnectionServer.run(MultiplexConnectionServer.java:15 4)
Some digging turned up the possiblity that the jndi.properties file isn't being read. Changed permissions on it to let everyone in. Heck, you guys can probably get at it right now form where you are its so open!
More digging, turns out Windows Firewall like to block port 2930, which is apparently used for internal communication with jndi settings or some such. Opened that up. Found evidence of further internal communication on port 900, opened that up to.
Found this very useful and a bit scary info about missing DLLs and so forth:
    http://www.communitymx.com/content/article.cfm?page=6&cid=224AA
Found reference to the updated Vista TCP/IP stack being a culprit in some cases, which often seemed to come down to, get this, a new host file entry for localhost: ::1  localhost. Commented that out, still no joy.
    Tried reinstalling. Still no go.
Pretty much exhausted all possibilities I was able to think of or find info about.
Any ideas or similar experiences? Or, failing that, the address of a tall building to jump off? Thanks!

Read the manual?!?! No way, never! That would be like... stopping at a gas station to ask for directions!
But seriously, I did poke around there a bit. I do tend to forget that there is more to there is more there than the language reference.
Never been stuck like this though. Probably done over 100 installs dating back to CF4 on just about all windows flavors but have never had to dig in to the guts of the underlying Java like this.
Thinking it has to be something unique to this machine; I have done other Vista installs of CF8 with only minimal issues (typically having to set the service to run under an account that has permissions, maybe even set jrun.exe and jrunsvc.exe to execute under an admin account, but thats about it). Unfortunately, partially because of the environment we operate in, a fresh workstation install is a good day and half to two day ordeal.
Help me Obi Wan, you're my only hope!

  • Failed to install Photoshop CS3 in Windows Vista SP1

  • Vista SP1: not showing up due to incompatability w/ drivers on 3000 N100

According to Microsoft (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948343, Cause 5), Vista SP1 has "known problems" with certain devices & drivers, among them:
    Biometric (Fingerprint) Sensors
    • AuthenTec Fingerprint Sensor with the Atswpdrv.sys driver file – version 7.7.1.7 or earlier
Latest driver from Lenovo: 7.7.0.19 (http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-67300)
This, of course, is preventing Vista SP1 from being deployed to my laptop. I use the fingerprint reader frequently, and do not want to lose functionality of it, though it is somewhat problematic. Is Lenovo aware of this, and is an updated driver forthcoming, or....?
edit: I forgot to mention, I have downloaded a "newer" driver from HP; their Atswpdrv.sys driver file is 7.9.0.4, which is newer. I may be able to replace the file in question, thereby updating the driver file.  I don't see a way to attachthe file here, but AFAIK, simply updating the sys driver file shouldn't affect anything, but should allow SP1 to work, right?  I've just done this, will reboot and let everyone know....
edit #2: GOOD NEWS! Replacing just the sys file didn't work; using the "update driver", and allowing it to use the .inf from HP to install the driver, updated it to 7.9.0.4, and SP1 now shows up under Updates.
Now, when will LENOVO catch up so no one has to do this work-around?  BTW, if anyone else needs this, simply reply to this post and I'll upload the files somewhere.

    Instructions:
Download the HP file from here: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-56164-1&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en...
You'll need to extract the files using WinRAR (WinZip will not work); you'll need to download and install WinRar (www.rarlabs.com), then right-mouse on the file you downloaded in step 1, select "extract to" and choose a destination.
Go to Device Manager, select the Authentec AES2501A, choose "update driver", and browse to the location you extracted the files to in step 2.
Voila! Do not run the install file, as it's designed for HP/Compaq computers, of course, so I don't know what it would do.  However, I now have Vista SP1 installed and all apears to be running normally.

  • Vista SP1 on my laptop

I recently noticed Vista SP1 on Windows Update. It has been nagging me to no end trying to get me to install it. Does anyone know of any compatibility issues, bugs, etc? Thanks.
P.S: Windows Vista Home Premium x86-32, currently no service packs installed. I have OS X Leopard.
    Thanks!

My guess is that people with newer MacBooks would tend to have
more problems due to lack of support for BootCamp from Apple, but better luck or good luck with SP1.
There is an SP1 newsgroup and support.

  • Vista SP1 Acrobat 8 Pro Freezing

I've had this issue ever since I installed Vista SP1 on my PC. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and updated Acrobat 8 Pro to 8.1.2 - the latest update. As soon as I open the program I have about 5 seconds until it freezes on me, similar to how it did right after Vista came out (before 8.1 update). I've checked my system and I have nothing running that would conflict with it running, other than SP1. I am running Vista Ultimate x64 SP1. If anyone has any ideas, that would be great!!!!

    Hi Errol,
    I share your frustration -
There seems to be a really long thread about this a little further down the topic list.
The problem is that I've spent an hour looking at msgs - finally started at the end (where the topic was XP(!) even tho started out Vista).
Here's a promising link I found somewhere about the middle. The computer I'm having trouble with is at work (and I'm at home on spring break) so I don't know if it will help.
My BIGGEST frustration is that I've been poking around the Adobe site since last November and NEVER found this download!!

Good luck to both of us!

  • Vista SP1 took out my system

Just over 3 weeks ago (I have been trying to get a solution ever since) I awoke to my new Lenovo 9868 A12, rebooting itself. and rebootin and rebooting...and so on and on. It received the Vista SP1 from Microsoft at 3AM, downloaded it and installed it but there was a major GLITCH.  seems the 3rd part of the download was trying to install but needed to reboot and that is where things went south. I tried to use the Lenova ThinkVantage to repair. It didn't work. So I looked all over this site for a patch or someone else with this problem.  No go. So I wrote Microsoft Support Team and after bout 10 days they sent me an apology and said one of their Techs would contact me real soon. Yesterday I got Ray, who again apologized for the long delay. He confirmed my problem "after the Windows Vista SP1  installation failure, the system kept rebooting. In addition, the recovery disk cannot repair the system." He expressed how disappointed I must be.. and that he would do all he could to help me. he asked me to do A system restore. I tried but the system restore was only available for that Windows update SP1. I rebooted in WinRE, I thought. Then he went on to install the Windows Vista DVD. I have a pre-installed OS. It was supposed to be in the recovery disks, I thought. Once this failed I got to a point where I could erase all that had been done and it was supposed to put it back to factory default. Well the system does'nt keep rebooting anymore and I now hav No OS. So I tried the recovery disks again. I booted with the system Rescue and Recovery Startup Disk. Things were going pretty good, until it said it did not recognize the disk in drive as the OS disk. So all those recovery disks did me no help. Now I have a Lenovo computer with no OS. I even tried to put XP on it but it fails to recognize the SATA drive. Is there help for me out there or has this become an expensive doorstop. Thankyou for any help you can give me.

Other than you I have had no contact from the Forum..IBM in Georgia sent me recovery discs overnight to me here in BC canada..I am in the middle of recovery now and hopefully by tomorrow I will see what happens if the Vista SP1 is installed..on the Lenovo homepage I went through a very long process (but well worth it) of registering for help via Submit a request.. it was one of the links on the left side of the lenovo homepage..I received a long distance phonecall..which I did request, the very next day..that was tuesday and today I have the computer back to factory default and am just doing updates..however I started with Lenovo updates first..I will try the microsoft ones tomorrow..hope this helps you.

  • Vista SP1 & Startup Disk

I just updated my copy of Vista to SP1, and my Windows volume no longer shows up as a possible startup volume in Startup Disk. If I boot holding the option key down, the Windows volume shows up and I can select it and boot from it. It's just a pain to have to keep holding down the option key. Anyone know a cure?

Actually, it's not too peculiar, as Microsoft has changed the startup strategy on the latest SP1 disks and they don't work on Macs.
Here's what I had to do to get Vista Ultimate 64-bit working on my 2006 Mac Pro. Note that I installed to a separate disk, not a partition on my OS X disk.
    - I used an older non-SP1 upgrade disk that I had from my laptop and did a FULL install, without entering the product key. Note that Vista complained about my hard drive and partition being non-compatible or somesuch nonsense - to get around it, I had to physically remove my OS X hard drive from the computer - Vista was then happy with that same hard drive/partition that it complained about previously
    - After installation, I applied the 63 available updates (not including SP1). No matter what I did, Windows update would not download SP1. The trick here is to disable all devices that are in error - i.e., the devices which are missing drivers (like bluetooth).
    - Once all the devices with errors are disabled, SP1 popped up in Windows update and I downloaded it.
    - Before installing SP1, I activated Windows using the product key from my Vista SP1 package (not the upgrade disk I used for the installation!).
    - Now, since I have a 2006 Mac Pro, neither my included Tiger installation disk nor my Leopard installation disk has the required 64-bit Boot Camp software and drivers. Fortunately, I have access to a 2008 Mac Pro installation disk, so I used it to install Boot Camp v2.0 64-bit. Doing that fixed all of the missing driver issues I had, including bluetooth and keyboard issues.
    - I then downloaded the BCUpdateVista64.exe file and installed it, which updated Boot Camp to version 2.1.
Done! Everything is working very well.
    Good luck!

  • Vista SP1 -- Driver issues with T61

Vista SP1 is now avaibale through automatic downloads. However, it is not available for my T61. A quick search on the net reveals that there appear to be some issues with the drivers -- finger print and Intel integrated video drivers.
    Are there any workarounds available?
Any idea where one could download the new drivers?
Is anyone else also experiencing these issues?

ThinkPad T61, (7658CTO), T7500, Integrated Graphics, 320 GB HDD, 3 GB RAM, 1 GB Intel Turbo Memory, Vista (32 bit) Business

    Hello,
I have installed the slipstreamed DVD containing Microsoft Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 from MSDN on my T61p and reinstalling the latest downloadable versions of the Lenovo-provided software without any problems, however, that was with a retail installation of Windows Vista and not the Lenovo-provided OEM version.
It could be there is something about your T61's operating environment which prevents the service pack from being displayed on in Windows Update.  Microsoft knowledgebase article #948343, "Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is not available for installation from Windows Update and is not offere..." explains the eight most likely reasons for this, along with steps on how to troubleshoot them.
If none of those seem to apply and you are ready to proceed, here are links to the download pages for Microsoft Windows Vista Service Pack 1:
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone (32-bit)
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Five Language Standalone (64-bit)
Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Release Notes
What you might want to do is back up any valuable data, make sure you have any other files available for software you might need to reinstall in case things go badly, and then try applying the service pack.  I wrote a short note in my personal blog here about some steps to take before installing the service pack—nothing that should really surprising, though.

  • Vista SP1 and the Sigma Tel driver issue

I've done a fair bit of reading about why Vista SP1 does not show up for some people in Windows Update and for me its almost certainly down to the Sigma Tel audio drivers on my MacBook Pro (Feb 2006).
N.B. I have installed the latest BootCamp 2.1 32bit update and this did not change anything. Also I should mention this is a clean Vista install and I have not used a pre release version of SP1 either.
Apparently Sigma Tel sold off their audio division and is therefore no longer updating the software drivers. Microsoft have said they plan to address this driver incompatibility with their own update at some point. This was the response another user received from MS tech support:
"Kindly wait for further updates from microsoft which addresses the sigma audio driver compatibilty issues with service pack1."
OK, so they understand and are looking into it, but it also seems like it would be down to the new SigmaTel owners to solve - IDT posted this statement, which suggest they think there is no need to update their drivers:
    http://www.idt.com/?app=knowledgebase&contentID=4836&parentID=4836&parentPath=12 10-3638-3639-4836
I have tried 'Resolution B' from that link, but after removing the Sigma Tel audio driver, Vista SP1 still did not show up in Windows Update and I don't want to force install (via the download link) if Vista is not happy with my setup.
Does anyone have the definitive answer to this situation? It looks like I just need to wait a little longer, but I just wanted to check I've not missed something important.
    Thanks

    Hi Mark
Firstly, at the risk of being patronising, use winclone to image your BC partition. It works brilliantly.
Secondly, I have a late 2006 MBP (2.33GHz) with Vista on BC and running Fusion. MS Update did not offer the SP1 upgrade so I used the standalone installer. The sound works perfectly but I have found that there is a nasty bug in the video driver (X1600), which causes an immediate reboot if you try to adjust the screen brightness. It works fine so long as you don't touch the F1 and F2 keys. I used the BC systray app to asign the F keys to MS software rather than Mac hardware to avoid inadvertently tripping this fault.
If you don't mind this nasty little funny lurking on your system then SP1 is worth installing. For example Safari on Vista opens much quicker than on OS X 10.5.2
Vista SP1 works perfectly in Fusion.

  • Confirm performance of Service/Goods Receipt

We are using SRM 4.0 SRM Server 5.0 in extended classic scenario.  Our backend is a R/3 system version 4.70.
When changing a purchase order via transaction BBP_POC on the header data tab, go to the follow-on documents.  At the top of this screen is a Document Ctrl section.  There is a box titled "Confirm Performance of Service/Goods Receipt".  We understand that removing the check mark from this box is essentially telling the system that you do not want to perform a goods receipt for this purchase order.  When the invoice is received in R/3, the system will pay the invoice and not put it in a block status.  The business is asking for this ability at a line item level.  In essence they want to tell the system that a goods receipt is not required by line item.  Apparently this capability exists in a purchase requisition in R/3.  Does anyone know if this is possible in SRM?
    Best regards,
    Shawn O'Connor

    Hello Shawn,
I don't understand your request, because document control in BBP_POC transaction ("Process Purchase Order") is done at item level...
    Could you clarify ?
    EDIT:
Sorry, i did not see your are in SRM 4.0...
In SRM 5.0, document control for follow-on document is done at item level.
    EDIT:
