Vista SP2 install on T61 fails

I have been trying to install Vista SP2 on a T61 running Vista Business with SP1 installed.
Windows Update says it installed OK but when machine reboots to configure update it fails saying that "some changes could not be completed, reverting changes".
Can anyone help me with this problem.
Thank You

Hi,
For me the reason was different.
Please look at support.microsoft.com/kb/971204/
Especially people with dual boot should read that carefully.

  • No audio / No sound following Vista SP2 install on HP DV4 (HP Pavillion Entertainment PC)

Solution: I struggled with this problem (no audio) for 4 days. After installing Vista SP2, all sound stopped coming from my HP DV4 laptop. (HP Pavillion Entertainment PC).  I checked all settings, unloaded and reloaded SP2, reloaded all sound drivers (IDT) and tried the Microsoft "Fix It"... 50131. Nothing worked. Very frustrating. I happen to notice that the driver being loaded by the MS program was IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Driver 6.10.6209.0. I started to suspect this most recent driver was either loaded with SP2 or was incompatible with it. I noticed the HP Support web-site had a list of drivers specific to my machine. The sound driver was listed as IDT High Definition Audio CODEC Driver 6.10.6087.0, which appears to be an older version. I downloaded this driver, applied it, restarted the machine and voila!
You can find the codec here:

This often occurs when you plug in an HDMI device, on my machine.  Try manually setting the playback device:
Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar.
    Select Playback Devices.
Right-click the audio device you want (i.e. Speakers)
    Select Set as default device.
If this does not work, try logging in with an account that has administrative access.  I discovered the wireless network can not be enabled by a non-administrative account, when it is disabled while logged in as an administrator.  You have to go back to the admin account, enable wireless, and then log back to the other account.
Avoid updating your driver, unless the device no longer functions.

Further examination showed, that the problem lies in the expired digital signatures

    Please see attached image Capture.PNG.

    Hello,
Based on your description, it seems that this issue only occurs on  Windows Vista SP2, and I get that connect you shared and have helped to vote it.
I think that Microsoft engineers will evaluate them seriously and provide you better support. In addition, you can post the answer here once the issue is resolved.

  • Vista 32-Bit SP2 install broke my network adapter drivers

I have a T61 model 765912G. I installed Vista SP2 from a fully up to date SP1 installation with everything working. It now has yellow warning triangles in Device Manager against: Intel (R) 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection and Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link 4965AG adapters. They now both show the following on the 'general' tab on their device properties:
This device cannot start. (Code 10)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available.
I have uninstalled the device from device manager and rebooted, I have uninstalled the device from device manager and ticked 'remove drivers' and rebooted, I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the Lenovo website and I have also followed the link to the Vista solutions where I was directed to the Intel website from where I downloaded and installed the most current driver.
None of the above actions repaired this issue. I do have Cisco VPN client v5.0.00.0340 and VMWare Workstation v6 installed on my laptop both of which install virtual network devices, but both worked perfectly before the SP2 upgrade.
If anyone has seen this and knows what the, or if there is a, fix is (short of uninstaling SP2) please let me know....
I have a similar post on a Microsoft support forum and the best so far is that I go to IBM - really helpful.
My line manager has the same model laptop with the same OS and had exactly the same problem, he uninstalled SP2 and everything worked properly afterwards. I'd like to persevere for a little while and try to fix this error.
I am online now by virtue of the fact that I have inserted a 3COM PCMCIA card into the PC Card slot on my laptop. This suggests that the network subsytem is OK, and it is just the drivers that SP2 has broken.

Well, the Mac OS install disk includes all the drivers you need for all the hardware you have. You don't need to download anything separately.
You don't need to download Direct X. Direct X 10 comes with Vista.

  • Firefox will not open in Vista SP2 after installing software for a Brother MFC printer.

I have 7 computer network. All the machines are running Vista SP2. I recently purchased a Brother MFC 9325cw, and installed the printer/scanner drivers as well as a program called scansoft paperport on each of the machines individually.
I left out the some of the bulkier aspects of the driver package, namely the brother control center because it seems to eat up a lot ram at start up.
Since I have installed the printer driver on my computers, several of them will not open firefox.
I have tried re-installing firefox on one machine so far to no avail.
Next I will try to re-install the brother software. Has anyone else encountered this problem before?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full, unrestricted, access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Vista SP2 will not install

Good day, this is my first post. We have a 3000 N100 that will not allow Vista SP2 to install. At least that is what Microsoft support says, after spending all Sunday morning chatting with them. But SP1 installed just fine a while ago.
I uninstalled AVG today  just in case but no joy.
Microsoft insists that we should reinstall Vista, but no Vista CD came with the laptop.
Another thing: when I click on the Lenovo Care icon, nothing happens?

  • Satellite L300 (PSLB9A) - No internet access after installing Vista SP2

Just upgraded my Vista with Service Pack 2 and found that I cannot connect to any internet sites, have proved it is SP2 by rstoring to prior SP2 and all is OK, also reloaded the OS with my recovery disks and all works OK...... ....until I load SP2 then when I try to access the internet I cannot, getting "IE cannot display the webpage".
Diagnostics report no problems found. This happens with either IE7 or IE8, firewall is disabled and I can reach any network device including my server but am unable to load the server web page, same issue..
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

    Hi Sascha
Yes I rolled it back to SP1 last night as I could find no way to fix the problem, I've never seen this before. Anyway all now works OK with SP1, before I rolled back I also rolled back IE8 to IE7 (no change) and removed, one by one the updates post SP2 install (also no change), as soon as I had rolled back to SP1 all worked fine, can get instant internet. I am going to load IE8 tonight and see if that works OK.
As for Skype MSN, no did not try those while SP2 was loaded, should have tried my skype account.
    Any thoughts?

  • HT4759 getting hresult: 0x80070091 error when installing iCloud on vista sp2 pc

getting hresult: 0x80070091 error when installing iCloud on vista sp2 pc

There is a very long way which is removing anything related to Apple including stuff in the registry.
The short way is as follows. It worked for me.
I have seen that in the forum EXCEPT the registry trick which is missing and does the different.
    1. Remove the Apple account from Outlook.  In my case a me.com account.
    2. Disconnect the connection to ICloud in the control panel of version 3.1.
REBOOT and open Outlook to see that all traces of the email account and of ICloud are gone.
    3. Uninstall ICloud 3.1. I used REVO Uninstaller in Safe way mode. It removed some stuff in the registry from what I see; but not sure.
    4. Delete as much stuff as possible in the C \Program Files (x86) \Common Files \ Apple
and C\Program Files\Common Files \Apple.  My computer is 64 bits.
    5. Go to the registry by typing regedit.exe or simply type regedit in the Start Box. Search for ICloud.  I deleted TWO entries related to ICloud. Otherwise, you will still see the ICloud control panel despite the fact that you removed 3.1.
    6. then I was able to install ICloud 4 immediately.  Upon restarting it asked me my email and password and added itseft to Outlook like it was before. Be aware that you address book in Outlook could be deleted, so do an export before.

  • No Sound After Installing Vista SP2

I installed with Vista SP2 update yesterday and now I have no sound. It seems to be a driver problem but updating the driver does not fix it. There is a red "x" by the speaker icon on the task bar and the volume buttons on my keyboard dont work.
The Conexant HD audio driver says that it is installed properly but I have no volume.
Microsoft seems to be aware of this problems and has a few fixes out (like http://support.microsoft.com/kb/948481/) but nothing they have published is helping me.
Please help as I really need to have my sound up.

This message can be closed - though, not sure if I am able to do myself.  I uninstalled the IDT Codec, did a full shutdown, then started back up, let windows fully load, was prompted for installing of the Codec by Windows, clicked to allow the installation to occur and the codec/driver was successfully installed.  I have my sound back!   Fantastic!

  • Vista 32bit, Service Pack 1 fails to install.

A Google search of "Vista installation error code 80070057 " returned many results. Seems that there are many like you. Here is one that I noticed on one of the Windows forums-->

  • Tecra M9-136 - BSOD during Vista SP2 update

Tecra M9-136 asked this morning to update to Vista SP2 and during the process the BSOD 0x0000007E arrived. Restarted in Safe Mode and the installer continued and then finally reported that the update had failed - and reverted to SP1. This took most of the morning.
It will start in Safe Mode but on a normal boot-up, Vista SP1 gets through the fingerprint recognition and then fails with the same BSOD (it doesn't get as far as displaying the desktop).
The laptop has BIOS level 1.80. I've tried in Safe mode to install 1.90 but it tells me that the battery has insufficient charge and the power adapter isn't attached. Both untrue.
Stuck - need advice. Could this be a hard fault? Can't see how I can update anything if it's a soft fault.
    thanks

The message with the BSOD mentioned checking BIOS and driver versions. Anyway, no change made to that.,
I tried System Restore but the only available restore point was the SP2 installation. I thought Vista was supposed to save a restore point every 24 hours even if nothing new had been installed.
I've now found in System Information / Windows Error Reporting several messages like this:

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Finally i was able to go into Rescue and Recovery Thinkvantage technologies
All thnx to Mr.??? ( i forgot 2 write it down) to giving this solution.... i have yet 2 re-install vista on my system....
will try different things before i JUMP to format and re-install vista....
Try the following if your system cannot boot 2 thinkvantage Rescue and Recovery....
The Rescue and Recovery - Recovery repair diskette solves this problem.
But for those without a floppy drive, I've created a CD image (ISO) of the diskettes, using a PC with a floppy drive andMagicISO (here's a nice tutorial on how I did it).
    Like the above link says:
    Quote:

    This package supports Rescue and Recovery versions 1.0, 2.0, 3.0, 3.1, 4.0, 4.1 and 4.2.
Here are the download links (these ISOs were made at the 28th of January of 2007 - check if these really are the latest versions of the repair diskette):
Recovery repair CD for Windows 2000 and XP (rnr31_rrd.exe):
    http://rapidshare.com/files/89450678/rnr31_rrd_fixed.iso
Recovery repair CD for Windows Vista (rnr40_rrd.exe):
    http://rapidshare.com/files/89450908/rnr40_rrd_fixed.iso
Now burn the ISO image to a CD (using Nero, MagicISO, etc.) and restart your computer with the CD in the drive.
Note: Install the Rescue and Recovery software, before restoring the partition.
When booting from the CD (I only tested with the Vista diskette. I assume the same dialogues will appear with the XP and 2000 one):
You'll probably get a "Write protect error writing drive A: Abort, Retry Fail?" error. Just enter "F" to choose the Fail option (this error will appear several times. Just keep pressing "F" every time it appears).
You'll eventually get to a screen where you should choose the option "Option 1: Repair the current master boot record." (press ENTER).
After a few more Fails, a message saying "repairing... writing new mbr..." should appear. After pressing Fail again, you'll get a message saying "File creation error".
Finally another screen will appear with two option: "Press ENTER and continue" and "Press ENTER and continue"(yes, both options have the same text). CHOOSE THE SECOND ONE! (I lost a bit of time here, because I kept choosing the first option).
You'll see a few more error messages (continue pressing "F") and finally a screen saying "The operation was completed successfully". Press ENTER.
You'll probably get a few more "Fails"... After reaching the DOS prompt ("A:\>"), you can turn off the computer.
Note: Remember to eject the CD, or you'll boot again from it.
Now, when you press the ThinkVantage button you'll have the F11 option or you'll be redirected to Rescue and Recovery.
THIS ACTUALLY WORKS!!!! if u dont see anything on screen or it seems 2 hang JUST PRESS "F".
Hope this helps for anyone who has this problem....

  • Vista SP2 and Access connections requiring manual reconnect

    Hi,
I'm experiencing a problem after the installation of Windows Vista SP2 on my Vista Business. After a reboot, I must always manually 1) disconnect the WLAN connection and then 2) reconnect to establish a working WLAN connection and to gain access to Internet. Before I disconnect, the WLAN connection is alive, but I cannot access any websites. Everything worked just fine before installation of SP2.
I'm running Access connections version 4.42 on Thinkpad R61. I've read that someone has had a similar problem with wired LAN and with newer version of Access connections: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/itprovistasp/thread/17ba267e-0bb1-4621-b81f-04afa0d806...
Does someone know how to solve this issue and make the connection to work without a manual disconnect -> reconnect step?
    BR,
    Miika

After some searching, I found a working solution:
    http://www.darthcontinent.com/2009/05/no-internet-after-installing-vista.html
    Everything works fine now.
