Vista sync

When syncing my iPhone on Vista (Ultimate), I routinely get and error:
"Attempting to copy to the disk '... iPhone' failed. The device timed out."
Sometimes if I reboot my PC it works ok, but after using my PC for a while, I start getting this message again. It's a relatively clean Vista install, without any bloatware.
When I sync my older 80GB iPod, I have no problems. Seeing all the comments about photo sync problems with Vista, I've stopped syncing those, but the problem persists. Suggestions (other than switching OS)?

Interestingly, this timeout happens when I have lots of songs on my iPhone and I'm downloading a lot of podcasts. When I reduced the number of songs on my iPhone (from 7GB down to about 4GB), the sync finishes more quickly and I don't get this timeout problem. It doesn't seem the like right solution, that I should only have reduce the amount of data being sync'ed.
While my PC is a couple of years old, it's still reasonably powerful (Pentium 4 2.53GHz, 2GB RAM, a Windows Experience Index of 3.6). I wish Apple would increase the timeout in iTunes and/or the iPhone.

If you resintall iTunes, it should fix the issue. The following document will go over how to remove iTunes fully and then reinstall. Depending on what version of Windows you're running you'll either follow the directions here:

Windows Vista Sync for a Tunsten T3

Just got a new computer with Vista loaded and am trying, fruitlessly I might add, to download, install and use Palm Desktop version 6.2 to sync my Tungsten to my computer. I think I've tried almost every possible way to make it work to no avail. Is there anyone who may know the fix or can assure me that there is no solution. Yout help is greatly appreciated.

1) The location for the Bluetooth Update software for the Tungsten T3 to Support a HP Pavilion dv7 running Vista 64-bit OS.
-im not sure what bluetooth update software you mean in your HP pavillion PC for the T3. if your PC has a builtin bluetooth on it, you can see the brand/model and version in the device manager.
if there maybe updates that should came from the manufacturer of the bluetooth device. so far there are 3 known drivers/stack for bluetooth that i know: widcomm, toshiba and generic/microsoft stacks.
2) Instructions on updating the Bluetooth settings on the T3 that do NOT involve using the HotSync (since that clearly isn't possible).
-there is no need to update the bluetooth settings of the T3 if you wish to do bluetooth hotsync as latest bluetooth versions available in the market are backwards compatible. so once the bluetooth stack is define, is just a matter of picking up the right settings for the PC and the T3 to communicate and do hotsync or send files and folders via the bluetooth radio.
3) Explanation why Palm is no longer supporting the T3. The website lists the product as mature, not end of life, nor end of support. Just as a note, the T3 is still one of the best and most powerful units it has ever produced.
-palm phones and handhelds has been classified into 4 categories or lifecyles. current, mature, legacy and historical. for mature units, these are units that are no longer sold as new at palm stores and its authorized dealers or retailers. palm are not totally abandoning support for these models although some services and options are no longer available. you can still do repair and phone support with a fee and free chat support.
4) Explanation why Palm/ACCESS is requiring Palm users to open up their PC's to clear access vulnerabilities via Bluetooth.
-it was indicated in the release of palm desktop 6.2 that windows vista 64bit is not supported. however, there were some who was able to find a workaround and that's bluetooth and wifi sync.
it's optional though as it's the users prerogative to try that workaround if they really wanted to sync their devices to the 64bit vista. so if some people find it too risky to try such workarounds then they simply look for another alternative such as other models or may shift to other manufacturers depending on what's feasible in their part.
5) Explanation why on my previous laptop (HP Pavilion dv6000 running 64-bit Vista) everything worked fine via the USB HotSync.
-in windows vista sync 64bit for mature devices like the T3, it may work in some cases but it is bound to fail since it's not supported as indicated in the release of palm desktop 6.2 which is the only version that will work for windows vista.

Windows vista/syncing ipod

I have upgraded my computer to windows vista. I have an Ipod video, I have upgraded my Itunes software as required and now cannot sync to my IPod any music that I have loaded to my Itunes Software from CD's. This is very frustrating, can anyone offer any suggestions???

Treo 680 on Vista - Sync trouble when changing from Beta to new system! Help!

I have had my Treo 680 for about a year now. When I got it I found that the wonderful people at Palm never configured it to ruhn on Vista which had already been around for about 2 years at the time. Consequently, I never could use all the features ( certain media, etc.) because I had to run the Beta system. Additionally, the people at Palm told me when I called last year that the error messages I get after syncing were just something I'd have to get used to.
Fast forward to today. I go to the Palm site and I see that Beta has been replaced by a system that works with Vista. As I write this right now, I am in the process of syncing and it is stuck on " sycronizing Date Book". I have already tried reinstalling the new Vista version and re syncing again. What should I do to get this thing to work. For five cents, I'd go buy a new G phone from T Mobile and just switch over via importing data to Outlook which I currently don't use and the be done with Palm, ... but I can't even do that because I can't sync the Palm unit anymore with my PC!!! Any help is appreciated.

DbFixIt is a database scan and repair program that can be found by doing a google seach and clicking on the first result that appears. It's made by Pimlico and after you down load the trial. You'll need to install it to the device. Unzip it and then double click the .prc file. You should get a message that it will be install during the next sync. Then you need to disable the Calendar conduit. Right click the hotsync icon just the the left of your computer clock. Goto settings, the Applications. Locate Datebook or Calendar (Or both) And uncheck them.
Then try to sync. This will install the program on the device if the sync completes. Locate the program on the 680 and open it. Once it opens click the top left hand corner and select Delete Calendar blobs. Once that's done you can run the Easy scan, it should tell you what calendar events are 'bad'. Then you can fix them manually. If you want to program to fix them automatically then you'll need to buy it.

Windows vista, sync and restore errors. I give up.

I have had continuous problems with my 8gb ipod touch, 2nd gen. I just returned one which I had had for 4 months during which it worked, but then I could not get it to restore and now have a new one and have the same problem. When I first got the new one , it would not sync it had a number of errors such as;
- Attempting to copy to the disk 'X' ipod failed. An error occurred while writing to the device.
-The ipod 'X' iod cannot be synced an error occurred while writing to the device.
-Required disk cannot be found.
-Also something about Apple Mobile Device
So I uninstalled itunes and all related programs and then reinstalled them.
I managed to get a few songs on to the ipod but they were distorted and the album art became chequered.
I then tried to restore it and have had more errors such as:
-The 'ipod' ipod could not be restored, an unknown error occurred (6).
-The 'ipod' ipod could not be restored, an unknown error occurred (14).
I have done all the things specified such as:
-Restarting the computer,
-Reinstalling Itunes,
-Using differnt USB ports on the computer,
-Removing the firewall, Zone Alarm,
-Removing everything from itunes.
Is it due to an itunes update possibly around june, that I have started experiencing problems.
Will I be able to fix it?
Any help would be appreciated, otherwise I shall return it and not bother with an ipod again.

It's definitely due to the itunes 9.2 update in June. I get the same itunes restore and sync errors you have on Windows Vista and Windows 7. It only starts restoring and syncing properly on Windows XP. I've tried downgrading to an itunes version that worked for me on Vista before, but Apple have updated the ipod touch firmware so that its not supported anymore by the earlier versions of itunes.
Apple phone support is a waste of time. They want to charge me £25 before they are interested in helping as they say my ipod is out of warranty - but its not the ipod that's broken, its the poorly written ITUNES, so why shouldn't I get free support for itunes even though my IPOD, which is perfectly fine, is out of warranty?!
Truth is, now apple has your money, they don't care...

Problems with Vista syncing photos

One of the main reasons I got my 80GB Ipod was so that I could always have all my pics with me of family.
It all worked until Vista...Optimizing Photos for Ipod before it syncs takes 10-20 seconds a photot. With XP, it takes less than a second a photo.

I have my photos stored in c:\Computer_name\users\public\pictures so that they are accessibly easily over my home network without having to assign new Windows permissions all the time. Is my location the issue?
The computer itself is a compaq/hp with a Pentium D 3 Mhz with 3 GB of RAM.
I forsee a photo sync taking all weekend...
Any ideas at all to speed this up?

yup - and everything is fine. I just uninstalled all apple software from the machine, reinstalled iTunes and it started syncing. HOWEVER, when I customized what was being synced (I only wanted music and a photo folder), it choked again.

Itunes 3g iphone and vista sync

I have a 3G iphone, Vaio with Vista Home, and the very latest Itunes.
I don't sync my ipod with this itunes and keep it unique for the iphone.
I sync calendat and contacts with outlook which works fine but it doesn't seem to see the phone as an ipod and every time I sync the music (which I have to do manually) it blows the itunes library away and despite searching, the only way I can get back to where I was with my itunes loaded, is to re-add the music folder and then it does all the artwork thing again, plus convert the odd wma etc.. It's an absolute pain in the ..

Roaminggnome - I understand what you're saying - however Mobile Me is great if you want to PAY for that.
I have just bought an iPhone (and here in Australia it ain't nowhere near the paltry $199 you guys in the US get to buy it for - try $700!!) and yet Apple now wants another $120 just so that I can use THEIR 'wireless' system.
I just want to be like StreetScience (within reason that is - sorry dude) and sit at my desk with my Powerbook in front of me, my iPhone to my left and NOT have to pay extra just to be able to 'wirelessly' sync any changes that I might make.
Sorry if that kinda makes me sound cheap - but if all the other smart phones out there can do it without being held to ransom by their manufacturer then why can't Apple allow us to do that too.
Or am I just being too 'needy'?

Hx 2110 to vista sync

Hi everyone - been a while since I was here!
I have an old HX2110 PDA which i use as a sat nav - still going well.
My home computor has just broke, so bought a new one with Vista operating system on.
I have tried to install the software that came with the device but seems to be incompatable with vista (the active sync section)
Question is can anyone help me sync the info i have on my PDA to thei windows Vista m/c?
I also want to then use tis data on the Vista m/c to restore back to the PDA if it throws a wobbly (which is does occasionally

Hi, and welcome to the Palm Community Forums.
There are many Vista-related threads in this Windows Hotsync board, which discuss the fact that Palm Desktop 4.1.4 is incompatible with Vista, in particular the Quick Install tool. You will have to download and install Palm Desktop 6.2.2. Click on the Support link at the very top of this page, and go from there.
Same thing with Documents To Go. A visit to www.dataviz.com is in order, as the version of DTG which shipped with the E2 is incompatible with Vista and Office 2007 documents. If you have registered with Dataviz, it is a $30 upgrade.

Vista sync calendar

Upgrade went well from my IpodNano to the IPodtouch in iTune. The only thing I would like to see, is that +we can sync from the calendar provided in Vista like we can with the contact.+ So the 100 Millions of us new owners of Vista wouldn't have to buy Outlook, since now we have our own calendar provided in the operating system.

I agree. Is there any way to sync the iPod Touch with the Microsft Works calendar? Thanks.

Vista Sync problem

the computer is recognising the ipod as an ipod but will not sync,when i click to sync it will say its updating for a minute and then an error message comes up.(The Ipod "Nick" cannot be updated. An unknown error occurred (-50)
i am using vista premium and the newest itunes.

I had a similar problem with Vista Business and iTunes incompatibility. Here's the solution that worked for me.
It's the same solution that I used for all the program that aren't yet fully compatible with Vista. It's a temporary solution though till these programs are compatible.
1- Go to Control Panel
2- Go to Programs
3- Click on Use an older program with this version of windows
4- Click on I want to choose from a list
5- Select iTunes on the list
6- Now on the next list choose your operating system
7- Follow the other steps as indicated

Vista Sync Contacts

Hello!
I'm using Vista and have some problems synchronizing the contacts. All contact is copied to C:\ root from phone. Isn't it possible to get them synched to ...Users\Contacts\ -folder and added as a Vista-contact?
The settings for PC Suite is to synch Vista Calendar and Contacts. I'm using cable and PC Suite 6.85.14.1.

You are not going to be able to sync to Windows Mail. Also you are not going to be able to sync email with palm desktop 6.2. Your only option of being able to sync email would be to get Palm desktop 4.1.4e and you have to sync to Outlook.

9800 torch and vista syncing issues

Hi all
I have read this forum forwards and backwards. I have a 9800 Torch purchased 2 weeks ago. My computer is Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium Edition. I installed the desktop manager 6.0 as soon as i purchased it. I began with out being able to ever sync my organizer to my phone. I have tried EVERYTHING i have read in the forum. I couldn't get Facebook to stop sdding to the calander, so I deleted the application. after deleting and restarting my torch, my torch is still reading the calander from FACEBOOK. I wiped all applications I installed. still no luch with sync. I apparently do not have the ability to turn off wireless sync, due to the fact I cannot locate that option anywhere in the settings for contacts, calander, or in the main settings. I love this phone other than this one issue. I have tried to get my calander to load onto the phone via yahoo and gmail and google calander, no luck there either. I called AT&T and they can't help, say they don't have a tech support dept for this phone yet. Blackberry wants me to pay for support that I think should be available for the first 30 days and I think this is BS. If someone has any clue how to help me with this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

Which email program on the computer are you trying to sync the calendar with?
You can disable wireless synchronization in your device calendar in Calendar->Menu->Options. Click on the calendar you have selected as default calendar (Options->Advanced Options->Default Services) and uncheck the wireless sync check box. Then try setting up synchronization again.

Vista Syncing Issues with the T/X

I just purchased a new computer with Windows Vista. After reading the forums, i still am not sure quite what to do. I have installed the Desktop software, and updated it with a newer version from online. My computer is telling me to install driver software in order to hotsync. The computer does not have bluetooth and i don't want to go and purchase something else. What can i do to enable me to hot sync with my computer.

click start, right click on computer and choose properties.
the basic information about your computer will be displayed including device manager, remote settings, system protection and advanced system settings.
the default display though is basic information window.
you need to look for the system where it should give you information about your PC's processor, memory and system type.
that system type is the one that should display 32-bit or 64-bit.
