Vista + TV Shows = No on my PC

YUCK! I have just been through a pretty horrendous evening.
Everytime I try to get iTunes 7.1.1 to playback a TV show from the store it manages to freeze Windows Vista. My PC locks up for about 15 minutes and then blue screens.
I haven't tried XP yet but it will cost me one of my machine activations. I'd rather not have to reboot to my XP partition everytime I want to watch a TV show.
Come on Apple! Hurry up with that Vista-compatible iTunes/QuickTime. Vista's been out since mid-November 2006. This is a shocking amount of time to take to fix these issues. Here's hoping the version of iTunes, released to support the new DRM-free music files, will also be Vista-happy.
My current workaround is to copy the TV Shows over to my MacBook Pro. Works on problem. But I'd rather watch on actual TV. Maybe this is all a ploy to get us to buy an Apple TV??? ;-P
Can anyone else tell me if they can playback TV episodes on Vista?

It was the SATA drivers!
Intel released a new version of their Matrix storage software (v7.5) which specifically mentioned fixes for Apple applications... which we know means iTunes. They worked! I'm so happy. Video now plays back on my Vista. Yeh!
I did not have this issue in XP with older Intel Matrix drivers.
Apologies to Apple for expecting them to correct this.
tsam - which MoBo do you have? If it's Intel or Nvidia based then you need to go to their sites to obtain the latest version of their software. I have an ASUS P5B Deluxe and I needed both the new Intel Matrix v7.5 and new Intel Chipset drivers both available from intel.com. Don't wait on your MoBo manufacturer to re-issue the same updates. Generally go straight to the actual maker of the chipsets you have.

Vista is an operating system... you do not open anything with it.
What do you mean "its showing up as com"?  What is "com"?
Maybe try posting in your native language so that we have a better understanding of what the real issue is.

  • Vista not showing up in startup disc pref?

I have Vista 64bit Business installed, via a bootcamp partition on a second internal drive on my 8 Core Mac Pro, which is running 10.6.2. Occasionlly I will use VMware fusion running off my bootcamp partition, but yesterday when I tried this, vmware said that it couldn't find the specified files. I could see the hard drive on my destop but when I went into the prefs > startup disk I did not see Windows OS? Normally it is there. If I restart my computer and hold down the option key I can then select the Windows partition. I am assuming that my issues with vmware are related to the windows partition not showing up in my startup disk prefs. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

Obviously you are not using a PowerPC G5.... and you didn't add an NTFS driver like that in Paragon or MacFUSE etc to write to NTFS drives.
Normally, for me, Windows is not shown... I make changes in Windows. And you didn't move the drive or partition at all.
I'd boot from Windows DVD and do system repair, also next time in Vista (natively) have it do a full check disk.

  • Windows Vista wont show iPhone in My Computer

It wont show up in My Computer or as a digital camera. It works fine otherwise, it syncs fine with itunes. How do I make it show up as a removable device under My Computer? I'd like to do this in order to take the pictures that I took with the camera off onto my computer.
    Thanks
    null

Actually, this is not true when it comes to pictures.
I can pull pics from my iPhone using windows (via My Computer), Photoshop Elements, iTunes and Corel...
Whenever I put my phone in the doc I am prompted by 3 programs to retrieve the pictures with. (rather annoying, actually...!!). And yes, all 3 work.

  • Anybody with complaints about Vista/Outlook showing screwy?

My client loves the website I designed for her- at home.
At work she is running Vista with MicroSoft Outlook and she says it looks crazy. Screwy spacing, out of alignment, letters too big and adding extra lines. The weird thing is that she printed the pages and they are fine!
Now I checked this website this morning on Mozilla, Safari, Internet Explorer, Netscape on two computers - both Macs--and they all looked great.
She says "Home page has a big gap (3 inches) between quote on top and second paragraph."
    http://www.barnlivin.com/
And on Services page - last words of bulleted sentences she says are aligned way on the left.
    http://www.barnlivin.com/services.html
I'm not seeing any of this. Is it her work computer? Or how do I fix this for her?
    Opinions cheerfully accepted,

    Hello
It is doing that also in IE 5 on a Mac and in IE 7 on my Mac VirtualPC.
You'll need to layout your tables/cells or your images on the left side differently to get it to work with a tables layout. you could try putting all the images in one left cell & all word in one right cell or some other combination.

  • Vista SP1 does not show up in Windows Update

I am not having any luck with Vista SP1 showing up in Windows Update. I have installed all other updates (both critical and optional), including all device drivers. I have also attempted to download SP1 directly from Microsoft, but when I attempt to run it, nothing happens - no error messages or anything. I am running Vista Business Edition.
I am using Parallels, but am under the impression that I should not attempt to install SP1 from that virtual environment, but using Boot Camp instead. If it matters, I do not see the SP1 update while running in the virtual environment either.
Anyone with similar problems? Thanks in advance for your help!

Though it was done via W.Update in this V.Ultimate a few weeks ago, a friend with V.H.Prem. has not had update. The included URL's info. I got by Google

    Hi,
Fusion (and Parallels or VirtualBox or BootCamp) need you to install a full Windows Vista or XP.
Running MS Excel without the need to install Windows before can only be done with Codeweavers Crossover http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
It has a trial version, so can see for yourself if your Mac is powerful enough (it is believe me ).

  • CS4 MASTER COLLECTION installation problem on VISTA SP1

    any solutions? plz help me...........

I get the same problem - any solution yet?
CS4 programs crash at Startup so I unistalled it plus CS4Clease and MS Clean Installer as advised in forums.
only to find the problem is still not fixed
    when installing a
Warning message at install stating cs4 minimum system requirements are not met (this did not appear the first time I installed the program)
    http://img132.imageshack.us/my.php?image=83377733oh8.jpg
where as CS4 worked for several months, before the error occured
    this is the only warning
it then installs CS4 no problem.
    after install
Photoshop and Dreamweaver run but the rest of the packages including inDesign do not - they all crash on startup - continously
I have searched the forums endlessly with no avail.
Would a vista update have stopped CS4 from recognising or identifing the OS, thus causing the program to initially crash?

  • How can I transfer all my bookmarks from my old firefox browswer bookmarks using Windows Vista onto my new Windows 7 desktop?

I just purchased Windows 7 OS and replaced Windows Vista on my desktop PC.
When I open a new firefox browser, none of my bookmarks from the older browser running under Vista is showing anymore.
Can I still transfer all my old bookmarks fromVista onto a new browswer using Windows 7 then?

Just a note about the difference between these two things:
    * "export" and "import" use an ancient HTML document format that all browsers can understand. When you import bookmarks, Firefox may place them into an Imported Bookmarks folder, or into Unsorted Bookmarks. This does not displace existing bookmarks, and Firefox does not automatically remove duplicates.
    * "backup" and "restore" use a more comprehensive JSON data file, which contains extra information about your bookmarks (such as tags) not contained in the traditional export file. HOWEVER, a restore completely replaces all existing bookmarks, so the restore feature cannot be used to merge in a set of additional bookmarks.
    Related support articles:
    * [[Export Firefox bookmarks to an HTML file to back up or transfer bookmarks]]
    * [[Import Bookmarks from a HTML file]]
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
Some users find the disk-based Windows Favorites folder a convenient way to organize bookmarks. If you do, too, and you do not need to preserve tags on your bookmarks, you could export each profile's bookmarks to HTML and import them all into IE11. Organize them in the Windows Favorites folder, then export from IE11 to HTML and import that file into each Firefox profile. See: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/add-view-organize-favorites].

  • TS1538 On Windows Vista, everything works through the USB ports except IOS devices.  This just started and I can't get things to work.  Help!

The past few days I find my IOS devices don't show up in "My Computer" and they don't show up in iTunes.  All other USB devices work well.  I am using Windows Vista.  I have tried several troubleshooting things, including unintalling and reinstalling iTunes, stopping and starting the Apple monitors, etc.  Nothing is working.  Ideas?

It's really great that you're taking the time to help me.  I did several of the tests you recommend over the last two or three days.  It always shows that the iPod/iPhone/iPad isn't present.  Here's more.  I got a Norton tech to help me yesterday and it isn't the anti-virus, as we uninstalled everything and it still didn't work.  I went deeper into the system through the control panel, and found the device detected on the appropriate USB port, but it won't show up in "My Computer".  Two of the three devices show up on another PC, (I didn't test the third) so I'm leaning to something in iTunes because every other USB device I plug into the Vista ports shows up quickly and works perfectly (thumb drives, wireless mouse, camera, etc).  I already unistalled all Apple software and downloaded new, but the problem still exists.  I have restarted, unplugged, you name it and the devices aren't showing up.  I can't wirelessly sync either because one has to set that up through iTunes prior to doing it.

  • Extracting Windows Vista Files

    Hi,
I'm that dork that installed Solaris 10 OS w/o partitioning the drive and I will agree with all of you that I torqued my system. I'm going to admit now that I'm a newly minted Electrical Engineer (graduated this winter) and my GPA wasn't shabby at all, so I should have had the common sense to take the installation a little more slowly and read more up on installation before doing it. I guess it was a last minute meltdown after all the stress of completing the degree (that may be an excuse, but maybe EE != CS skills).
    So here goes...
I'm trying to extract files where a Vista partition should be to back before reinstalling Vista and maybe Solaris 10 the RIGHT way.
Vista doesn't show up on the GRUB and I DIDN'T back up my files (ouch). None of the personal files I had were really crucial to anything except graduating (and I already did ), but I had some files that would be nice to keep (Soundgarden songs, maybe some project files from school that I was proud of). I've been trying to get Vista to show up but the only things on the GRUB are Solaris 10 and the Solaris safe OS. I didn't partition my hardrive before the install, but there was an automatic partition that seemed to take place when I was installing the Solaris 10 OS from DVD. At present Solaris 10 is only registering 1GB of free hard disk space (which confuses the crap out of me. If that were the result of the install, then perhaps Vista still exists, but when I pop the Vista DVD in my drive, it tells me the 140 GB space needs to be reformatted, but failed to do so when I gritted my teeth and told it to reformat that space.)
So far as I can tell there are no help files associated with Solaris at the present moment so I'm not getting to far in analyzing what's going on in the system. There is a file analyzer which seems to get good results until it gets 60% into the file structure, then seems to produce an endless tree of repeating folders.
So any advice that would get me to those files before I commence with the washing of my hard drive would be really sweet.
    Thanks in advance!
    Matt

If memory serves me correctly, there was a question asked in the installation process that asked me how much disk space I wanted to allocate for the Solaris 10 install. This might have had to do with some optional programs offered from the DVD though. But even though they offered some of the optional programs (and I tried to opt for some of those) the DVD told me that I didn't have enough disk space to install any of them, so I went for just the basic install.
Sorry my memory is so sketchy, I must have been halfway delusional right after the semester ended.

  • Can't set up Vista Network Printer

My HP printer is currently on a Vista Network. My three Windows based computers all print off of it. I want to add to my new iMac. I have enabled all sharing boxes in the "sharing program" I have tried to add with the "appletalk" dropdown and the "windows" dropdown. When I click on "more Printers" the word "workgroup" (the name of my vista network) shows. I click on that and "bruce-pc" (the name of the network the printer is on) appears but not the printer. It appears the iMac is seeing my network but not the printer. Can anyone help? Thanks

    I found I could never connect to a Vista shared printer using SMB. But I did get it working using LPR/LPD. Here's some steps;
    1. Navigate to the Windows Vista Control Panel
    2. Go to the "Programs and Features" pane
    3. Click on "Turn Windows Features on or off"
    4. Expand Print Services and enable LPD print service
    5. Still in Control Panel, open Printers and right click the printer to share. Select Sharing.
    6. Enable the Sharing button and enter a share name without spaces
    7. On the Mac OS X system, open Printer Setup Utility (located in Applications/Utilities)
    8. Click Add and while holding down the "Option" key, click "More Printers"
    9. From the top menu select "Advanced"
    10. From the "Device" field select "LPD/LPR Host or Printer"
    11. In the "Device URI:" field, lpd://(name of your Windows Vista computer)/(share name of your printer), e.g. lpd://VistaHome/CanonBJ
    12. Browse to the Brand and Model of printer. For a number of printers you will have to use the Gutenprint driver, as a number of vendor drivers do not support cross-platform network printing.
    13. Click the "Add" button

  • X-Fi Xtreme Audio, Vista Audio probl

    Hi everyone,
First off, I believe I may have gotten the worse X-Fi card available. Anyways, I'm having some audio problems. It's when I turn on the the X-Fi Equalizer's 62 Hz up to almost the fullest. Then, I turn up my Media Player's volume, that's when I get soft and somewhat loud volume. The way to get rid of that is not to mess with my Media Player's volume control. But to turn up the volume control of Vista (which shows by the computer's clock). I don't know what to do. I used to have a Audigy SE, but, I read up that the X-Fi Xtreme Audio is pretty much the same card. I heard that the X-Fi XtremeGamer has almost the same problems as the X-Fi Xtreme Audio, with volume problems. Hopefully someone will reply and help me out. Vista is becoming a pain. I bet XP doesn't have these audio problems. But Vista is different when it comes to sound.

i had that card before and traded it for audigy 4 to get rid of problems
can u please tell me what s your CPU load when you just listen to music?

  • Vista doesnt like my 8800s?

Hey guys, I recently got a reasonably uber Mac Pro, but in my Windows partition, I get a Windows Experience Index Score of 1.0, because it doesnt recognize my video cards/drivers or something.
-I have put in the Leopard Disk in Vista to install the driver recognition stuff, and performed Bootcamp perfectly. I also did the driver updates through one of the automatic Windows thingies.
-System Profiler (on Leopard) recognizes both of my 8800 GTs, and in Device Manager (on Vista Home Basic 32bit) it recognizes both as well under Display Adapters.
-In the Welcome Center in Vista, it shows an 8800 as my grahics card, that seems like a good thing.
-In the Properties of both my 8800 Gts, there are no 'conflicting devices', my driver version is 7.15.11.6763, the 'device is working properly', location: PIC bus 1/2, device 0, function 0, and there arent any updates available for this device.
-Somewhere on Vista, I forget, it said that I had like 2.075GB of supported GPU memory available, 512MB per card, and 0MB "dedicated system memory", that sounded important to me.
-My Mac came with one 8800, and I installed another myself before partitioning.
-Everything else works and looks fine in Vista, solely my graphic's scores are bad.
-I have tried installing drivers from laptopvideo2go.com, and of course refreshing the Windows Score and restarting.
Well, I havent tried installing and running Crysis yet, could this just be Windows Experience index malfunctioning? It is also called Win. Exp. Index "Unrated" for some reason, does that mean its not to be trusted? If so, Im sorry to have wasted your time with all this information, but is there any way to check that everything is runnin great in Vista?
    Thanks!

Windows Experience Index rates your computer's hardware, but doesn't directly determine whether you can run something. Yes, I could disregard it, but I want to make sure that everything works. The computer recognizes the cards at least, but I dont know how to tell if they are actually working (Windows Experience Index is the most common/best way). I guess I could just try running Crysis, but is there a simpler way to test the 8800s performance in Vista?
    Thanks
