Vista Ultimate Installation

Whenever I try to install Vista Ultimate on my Mac Pro it always goes to a BSOD after it gets to the "completing installation" step. It happens wether I install the 32bit or the 64bit. Any ideas on why it is doing this?

I have checked Toshiba support page and you are right. There is no support for Vista OS.
To be honest Im really wondering that you want to do such downgrade. It is well known that Win7 runs better than older Vista, especially on Vista machines. I have upgraded several older Satellite notebook models originally delivered with Vista.
Maybe you can use some Win7 drivers, tools and utilities. Test it.
By the way: what is the reason for such downgrade? I mean I cannot imagine you are not satisfied with Win7. Try to obtain Win7 ultimate version and install it. in my opinion it is best solution for you.

I would download a new installer, you can get the trial

Sounds like a corrupt exe. But yes, make sure and run as

  • I cannot connect to the Internet after installation of Windows Vista Ultimate edition.

I cannot connect to the Internet after installation of Windows Vista Ultimate edition. For some odd reason, it seems my ethernet has not yet been installed to my operating system and I do not know how to do that even with the internet, I have the LAN cable hooked up to my computer but I do not know exactly what to do about it. Is there some sort of driver I need to install, or what? How do I do that without the internet?
This operating system is on a separate partition to my other operating system that is connected to internet already (Windows Vista Premium) that I do not wish to use anymore because of it's corruption. I tell you this because you may know a way of finding the driver files on my previous operating system that I may be able to transfer to the other.

  • Rescue Vista Ultimate SP1 64 bit Bootcamp Installation as Hard Drive Fails

I have been using a Bootcamp installation of Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit retail since May 2008 without a problem. Vista was installed (accidentally) on two drives, both of which are separate from the two Mac OS drives. I would have preferred to install it on only one drive, and thought that I had done so.
All my Windows documents and programs are on Drive C (Bay 2), which appears as a Master Boot Record Partition in Disk Utility. Drive D (Bay 3) contains some of the Vista files (including the Boot directory and bootmgr), but nothing else, and appears as a GUID Partition Table in Disk Utility.
I have now begun to receive an S.M.A.R.T. warning that Disk D is failing. It was backed up last week before the warning to a Windows Home Server, but no longer backs up. I would like to replace Drive D with a brand new drive, but know from past experience that Vista will not boot if I simply remove Drive D. Aside from the Vista boot content, there is nothing on drive D that I need.
How should I best proceed to avoid losing programs/data on drive C when replacing drive D? Should I remove drive D, and try to boot from the Vista Ultimate SP1 retail CD to "repair" drive C? Is there some other approach that would avoid having to start from scratch with a new Vista installation?
Starting from scratch is very unattractive. The initial installation of Vista was a difficult chore that involved "cleaning" the brand new hard disk from the Vista CD (with Microsoft support), since it would not install on the Bootcamp-formatted drive. In addition, Drive C has software and documents that I use regularly and would rather not have to recreate.
Many thanks in advance for your suggestions.

So you do have at least one good backup. And you have used Vista file and PC backup as well, so you could do a restore if needed?
Whatever you do, I would pull all your drives and drop in one or two fresh drives.
I've never felt comfortable or safe with Acronis - doesn't support GPT.
Prosoft DataBackupPC 1.0 - used to use for backups but never did a restore.
Paragon HD Manager 2009 - seems to have a lot of tools but someone said it doesn't yet have full Mac and Boot Camp support.
My system is Vista and Windows 7 on one drive, data and such on #2 and multiple backup drives - one internal and a couple hot swap external.
SMART is not very good at predicting and you are at the point where what? I/O errors? bad or weak sector(s)? have you ever used the disk check to repair files and attempt to fix any bad blocks?
Depending on the make of the drive, you want to use the vendor's utility - often before even using a drive - to do a full surface scan and repair.
I remember when you had trouble installing.
Oh, and I would make a new backup. Even if it means pulling your OS X drive and dropping a new drive in there, and make it a backup of programs, files, documents, whatever, and maybe a system image backup.
Can you restore from the server? while booted from Vista DVD?
I have a somewhat similar problem with a drive "D" with nothing on it now that is "owned" by Vista that I want to get rid of and strip so I can use it for backup or something else.... but afraid to.

  • Vista Ultimate, Firefox 4.01 just installed. The back and forward buttons do not work with this new installation. Help please.

O?S is Vista Ultimate 32 bit fully updated. I have just installed Firefox 4.01. I have lost use of back and forward buttons - they are greyed out. Is there a solution please?

It is possible to have earlier data in a tab if the latest tab had target="_top" that means the back key will not work, but if your right-click on the back/forward you see a context menu. As far as I know the only difference between 3.6 and 4.0 ws that the drop-down arrow was dropped but like before you can still right-click.
There are some extensions that mess with the Back/Forward buttons.
There is a difference between gray and '''black''' on the buttons, '''black''' means there is history in that direction.
You can make Firefox 4.0.1 and Firefox 5.0 look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)]

  • Vista Ultimate: 64-bit Installation Problem

Ok so I'm trying to install vista ultimate 64 bit, and when boot camp tells me to insert the disk, I did, then It restarted and when booting, it came to a black screen with white text saying:
    1.
    2.
    *+Select cdrom boot type:+*
The problem here is that I can't type a darn thing! They keyboard doesn't do anything at all, and not even plugging in a usb keyboard worked.
For those who will ask, yes, I have a genuine copy of Vista Ultimate 64-bit which includes a 32 bit version, but I'd rather NOT use the 32 bit one, because hey, I've paid for the one with 64 for a reason.
Does anybody know what to do here? Is there a fix or am I screwed?

Microsoft, Apple and Intel belong to the EFI group. That isn't to say that they implement the same. Some Macs have EFI64 (2.x, UEFI), some have EFI32 (1.x).

  • Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same Mac Pro HD?

Has anyone been able to install both Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same dedicated Windows hard drive? I have four HD in my Mac Pro, and one of them is dedicated for Windows (and bootable via Boot Camp). I found the following technical articles about installing Windows XP & Vista on the same hard drive (using two separate partitions) using a VMWare machine as the test system:
    http://apcmag.com/howto_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystepguide.htm

Has anyone successfully installed Windows XP (32-bit) and Vista 64-bit) on the same NTFS partition?
I already have Windows XP Pro (32-bit) SP3 installed on my single NTFS hard drive. I am looking for the best way to add the Vista 64-bit installation on the same hard drive.
Any thoughts and advise are appreciated.

Windows has its own list of boot OSs, and default, from msconfig. It will sit and wait for xx-seconds on startup in Windows if you want to boot from an alternate.
As to whether Apple's OS Switcher (aka startup disk bootcamp control panel or tray icon) sees both, I had Windows Home Premium and Ultimate 64, and pretty sure OS X saw both. That was pre-Leopard and before there were 64-bit Apple drivers.
I can't think of any scenerio of wanting to mix 32-bit and 64-bit on the same paritition, you realize you can't install the one over the other and must do a clean install.
When I added a partition out of main partition (I wanted to put search index and page file on their own partition) those partitions aren't seen - are hidden - to Leopard.

  • Brand new IMac can't connect to Internet while using Vista Ultimate

The subject is pretty much it, but basically.  We just bought a brand new IMac and I happened to have an old copy of Windows Vista Ultimate lying around and wanted to partition some hard drive space for gaming.  During the installation a message popped up that said Lion only supports Windows 7.  I went through with the installation and after Windows started I loaded in my old Snow Leopard CD.  I installed the drivers and went through the set up.  Everything seemed fine, but I am unable to connect to the Internet.  I plugged my desktop in via Ethernet to my router but still no Internet.  In my device manager there are many devices, including network controller, that have yellow exclamations next to them but I don't know how to update them or where to get the drivers.  Any help would be greatly appreciated, and I would be happy to take any steps to relay more information.  Thank you!

New motherboard. So unless you can find, and want to mess around, which is why the pdf guide and all the faqs tell you what and how to install, and that only 7 is supported.
Vista SP1 is no longer supported even by MS.
You have Sandy Bridge based system with Thunderbolt, hence it needed new device drivers.
Windows 7 64-bit SP1 Home Premium System Builder is $95

  • Installed iTunes 7.4.2 on Vista Ultimate - No Longer Works!!!

I was prompted today, by the iTunes updater to install the latest version of iTunes (7.4.2) Installation appeared to complete successfully and rebooted the PC accordingly. However, am now getting a Microsoft Windows Error message saying:
    iTunes has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem
Check online for a solution and close the program
    Close the program
First of all I selected the check online and it did indicate that there was a Vista compatability update available. Installed this but even after the required reboot I'm still having the same issue with iTunes.

Well - bit the bullet again and thought with a 7.4.3 version maybe they'd fixed the issue - well was I wrong or what...
Checked whether quicktime works and it's working just fine... But I'm still getting exactly the same error as last time re the incompatibility of iTunes with Vista Ultimate (32bit edition)...
Does anyone at Apple actually look at the issues posted as I know I'm not the only person to have this issue having looked at other posts?!? The is now the 2nd naff version of iTunes, as well as 1 dodgy version of the iPod firmware I've seen since I've had my 5th Gen 60GB iPod...
Love the iPod - don't think much to Apple's testing procedures for Windows software...

  • Windows Vista Ultimate and Oh Crap!

    Hello All,
This post is a bit of a question and a bit of advice. I am a System's Analyst / Network Engineer. I have a lot of experience with computers, Windows, and Mac OS. Eight days ago I started working with a client on a brand new PC with ALL the bells and whistles. The PC is an HP Pavilion running Windows Vista Ultimate, RAID 1 (Mirror), Removable Media Drive, Great Sound via X-Fi, Great Video via Nvidia PCI-X, and SATA (Obviously since it's running a RAID array).
I got everything setup and running great and as the last step installed iTunes and Quicktime. My client has a few thousand songs, a ton of TV shows, and a whole mess of movies ALL purchased thru iTunes store. Nothing is pirated, stolen, or illegal on this computer. Now, here's where it gets good.
I did the import in a few stages to make the data transfer a little faster. I did music, then TV, then movies. I tested a song and it worked great. I went to play a TV show and the computer slowed to a halt. I let it go like this until activity started on the machine again. It took about 5 minutes and then iTunes crashed. A second later the computer blue-screened and rebooted.
As soon as the reboot occured the RAID array came up in a failed state. I had to rebuild the array and get back into Windows. I tried again with the TV show, had the same result, tried again with a movie, and again had the same result. I called HP and they told me to fresh install the OS so I did. Again, same result.
This has been going on now for a few days with several different tests and several array rebuilds and OS installs. I would have had HP replace the computer or the motherboard but NOTHING else on the entire PC was causing this problem and diagnostics showed no hardware issues. There is/was no reason to suspect faulty hardware or software other than iTunes and/or Quicktime.
Today I ran the final tests and a fresh rebuild. I found some documentation stating that iTunes had some compatibility issues with Vista and decided to try some other videos that I could run in Media Center. They worked flawlessly. I'm left thinking that these problems are specifically iTunes / Quicktime and will move forward accordingly. Apple has stated that they are working with Microsoft to develop a new version of iTunes that is fully compatible with Vista and I have chosen to wait until that version comes out before installing it again.
My question is if any of you have experienced issues like this? If you have, do you have any advice or things you did to make it work? Please comment here as I will be watching this post to see your responses.
My advice is to be very cautious when installing iTunes in Vista, especially with this sort of configuration. I've seen iTunes work fine in Vista before but this is the first time I've worked with a configuration like this. Please be aware of the potential problems. As I've stated earlier, everything else is working perfectly.
Thanks for your time and sorry for the long post. Have a great day!
HP PavilionCTO D4790Y   Other OS   Windows Vista Ultimate, 4 gigs of RAM, 256 Meg GeForce 7500LE PCI-X, RAID 1 SATA with 250 gigs

Thank you for the great responses, guys! This is exactly the kind of feedback I was hoping to get.
Rain-Man, your post is EXACTLY what I was hoping for. This computer is also running WD drives. I had a feeling that WD might have been some of the issue but it only happened on the SATA RAID config. The computer I set up right behind this PC (on another desk) is EXACTLY the same but does not have a RAID 1 setup and runs perfectly with iTunes.
Also, there is a Hauppauge TV tuner running in this PC and, in retrospect, I think may be conflicting with codecs. God forbid you would have multiple codecs installed on one PC....
I'm not going to sit here and bash WD or Hauppauge, but I'm not a big fan of either of these devices. One of the other things that bothers me is that the RAID is controlled by "Intel Matrix" which is the default software RAID controller in this HP product. There isn't any real control in the management console. All you can do is rebuild a failed array or view an existing configuration. That doesn't really say, "AWESOME" to me. Being an HP product I'm assuming this is pretty standard because it was the default software controller installed on this system.
Any way you look at it, I really appreciate the posts here. I agree that there is an issue that Apple needs to address. WD or not, the fact that people are having problems getting iTunes to work in Vista needs to be resolved. We pay for our music and our shows and our movies and deserve to have them working and not getting deleted, corrupted, or damaged when we try to play them or transfer them. I love the fact that Apple is incorporating new technology into their products but we pay for that technology and it should work.
If I hadn't backed up my client's iTunes folder I would have lost everything he paid for. He's a pretty cool guy but how would you feel if you lost a couple grand worth of music, TV, and movies? I would be pretty upset.
In the end, I think RAID or drive configuration on this PC is one of the major issues. It's something to do with the SATA controller and Vista combined with iTunes / Quicktime. I'm not exactly sure how that could be but I believe it's something Apple / Microsoft needs to investigate...
Please keep the posts coming as I will be checking here regularily for updates. Thanks for your input and I hope we're able to resolve this issue soon.
