Vista Ultimate on Equium A100 - 2x "Unknown Devices"

Equium A100-306 with XP Media Centre Edition.
Stickered as Ready so done clean install of Vista Ultimate (x64).
Now I have 2 "Other Devices" in Control Panel.
Did have 3, as Mass Storage Controller was in there too!
There is an x64 TI xx21 version that does not work, available from Download Centre.
Anyone know how I can track/identify the devices &/or the missing drivers?
Used DriverMax and online Update Driver but nothing shows.
PLUS - anyone knowledgeable about the A100-306 with T5500 duo proc......
Is this a true 64 bit device or is it a 32 bit system running a 64 bit processor?
I have x64 Vista loaded which should show 4Gb or more, but it still reads 3062Mb.
Having read lots, I find that some people differentiate between system and processor capability, others do not.
Is it possible to have a 64bit processor in a 32bit system?
Why has this issue not been solved?
If it is a 32bit system, why should we bother putting x64 OS on it?
Confused on this so any help would be great.
Yep! I have latest BIOS.
Oddly enough, I did get XP_MCE to show 4GB RAM immediately after BIOS upgrade.
Finally, Thanx to everyone who has asked (& replied to) all those other questions I had.
I came, I searched, I got the answer.......
Just the above to sort & I'm a v. happy bunny.

Please not that the Toshiba Vista 64bit drivers are not available on the Toshiba page and therefore some unknown devices can appear in the device manager because of the not installed drivers!!!
> anyone knowledgeable about the A100-306 with T5500 duo proc...... Is this a true 64 bit device or is it a 32 bit system running a 64 bit processor
Intel Core2 Duo Mobile T5500 is known as a Merom/64Bit CPU.
> Is it possible to have a 64bit processor in a 32bit system?
Yes, the CPU supports 64bit OS and 32bit OS
> If it is a 32bit system, why should we bother putting x64 OS on it?
You can install everything what you want but the question is if you will get all the right drivers

  • Equium L10: Windows Vista Beta2 - unknown device

    Hi
I have a Toshiba Equium L10 with Windows XP loaded as default but I installed VISTA Beta2 "public release" on it and given that it's only a 1.5GHz Celeron CPU with 512MB RAM, it ran extremely well but, I have one problem which I am hoping that I can get help with from the users in this forum and especially those who have the same/similar Equium model as I have?
Ok, after installing VISTA I checked in Device Manager and noticed "Unknown Device". After checking out the info given in it's properties, I have detailed it below:
Location: Microsoft ACPI Compliant Embedded Controller
    Value: ACPI\ACPI 0001 * ACPI0002
When I re-installed XP again, I went to Device Manager/Batteries/Microsoft SMART Battery, the entry for Microsoft SMART Battery Subsystem has "ACPI\ACPI0002\6&28CA2229&0".
Notice the "ACPI0002" info given for the 'unknown device' in VISTA is the same info given for the "Microsoft SMART Battery Subsystem" in Windows XP. So I am left wondering if the unkown device under VISTA is the Microsoft SMART Battery Subsystem and if so, why did VISTA not install the driver for it?
Can anyone help with find a driver for the "unknown device" in VISTA?
    Regards
    Brave

    Hi
The unknown device appears because the driver is missing.
Unfortunately, at this time you will not find any Toshiba supported drivers for the Windows Beta2. This is a beta version and not official on the market.
I think if this OS will be official supported so you will also find the needed drivers.

  • Unknown Device ipod Classic and Windows Vista problem??

Help!! My ipod Classic is not being recognized by my computer. I have read the previous articles and tried the solutions but I continue to get the result "Windows has determined that the driver software is up to date" I continue to get the error noise when I plug the USB in and the Device manager continues to say "Unknown Device" It seems others are having this problem, how do I fix this?

I am having the same trouble with mine, and I can say that it isn't iTunes, I plugged my brothers iPod Nano in and it worked like a charm, but when I plugged my iPod Classic 160g in all it says is it is an "unknown divice". It isn't Vista either as the same thing happens on XP Pro as well, so all I can think of is it is a error on the Classic itself. I just wish someone can help out so that I can use my ipod!!!! Come on Apple!!!! Solve this problem!!!!

  • Equium A100-306 Question about ModusLink Vista Upgrade

    Hi,
I purchased a Equium A100-306 in November prior to deploying on operations as I am in the forces and was unable to upgrade before this.
I have just returned and have found out I can no longer get my Vista upgrade as I have missed the deadline. I have E-mailed ModusLink with no response. I was wondering if anyone has any advice or could help me resolve this problem.
I feel I should not miss out on the free upgrade due to circumstances out of my control. Looking through the documentation I received with my laptop there was no deadline stated it is only on the internet the deadline is made clear but I was unable to check this out.
    Thanks for any help.
    Greg

Ivan is right. The moduslink company is responsible for the XP to Vista upgrade.
It controls the upgrade procedure for all computer companies which offer this upgrade.
However, I dont think that you will be able to order the Vista upgrade if you have missed the deadline but of course nothing is impossible and you should really ask the moduslink guys if you can take this offer good luck buddy

  • Equium A100-337: bad Vista performance - should I upgrade to XP?

I have a brand new Equium A100-337 which came with Vista as standard.
No games work properly (yes I've tried the emulator). The sound is dreadful and DVD's are virtually inaudible. The firewall switches itself off or crashes constantly. I keep on getting the message that Toshiba flash cards arent working - I don't even know what they are!
    Is all this normal?
Would the XP installation solve my problems?

    Hi
How about RAM upgrade. According to specification this notebook model is delivered with 512 MB of RAM. Very interesting is that graphic card is shared one and use RAM for graphic operations. I can imagine that performance is not the best one.
This notebook model can handle with 4GB of RAM and I recommend you to upgrade RAM with additional 1GB module.
I am pretty sure the performance will be much better. 512 MB is for me definitely not enough. The same is with WXP when unit has 256MB RAM only.
    Bye

  • Unknown devices after Vista installation on Satellite Pro U200

I installed vista ultimate yesterday, but unfortunately my U200 is not as vista compatible as the sticker would make me believe.
Non functioning items I've identified so far:
    - Speakers and Headphone jack
    - Function Keys
    - Fingerprint Reader
Almost none of the included toshiba software installs even after turning "Application control security off"
Does anyone know where I can get the new drivers and software or when they will become available?
Otherwise really liking Vista. It is very responsive and simplifies many tasks. It looks nice too, but thats not my priority.
    Any help gratefully received
    Cheers

This might help others having similar problems. I have been able to get evrything to work except my shortcut keys.

  • IPod Touch and Vista Ultimate won't get along

I recently purchased an iPod Touch 16gb and have had some major issues ever since. THis is long winded but that's because without all details I think peopel will tell me to do what i've already tried.
When I first connected the device up I was prompted to update my iTunes and this completed successfully. Then when loading my music onto the device i got a few errors saying "The iPd cannot be synced. The disk could not be read from or written to." and then "Attempting to copy to disk 'xxx' failed. The disk could not be read from or written to. It sounded like a hard disk error but I persevered and managed to get my music loaded.
Then everything was going to fine for a while until one day I'd left my iPod attached to my PC (Vista Ultimate 32bit) overnight to charge and when I took it to work that day I found that all my music and videos had disapeared. I did some searching and this seemed to have happened to others.
When I got home and attached the iPod to my computer I was prompted to do a restore. So I kicked this off but part way through I received an error saying "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occured (9)." And that was it. Dead iPod. It wouldn't turn on and wasn't recognised anymore apart from windows saying "USB Device Not Recognised". Apple replaced this for me thinking it was a hardware problem.
Unfortunately I had the same problems with the next one. This time however I uninstalled and reinstalled all my apple applications (iTunes, Mobile Device, Quicktime etc.) as mentioned on the support pages. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem. Once again I recieved the same errors and my music disapeared. This time I did a restore using the iPod menu and that was successful but then I kept getting the sync and write errors so once again I tried a iTunes restore and same again... dead iPod and back to Apple for my 3rd iPod.
I've now got my third one and am having the same issues. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the apple products many times, updated my USB drives and windows is completely to date. I've also created another user in Vista and get the same problem. I have a feeling this has something to do with the Apple Mobile Device Support but am not too sure as i've unistalled and reinstalled it a number of times.
Any advice or tips appreciated before I brick my 3rd touch and ask for a refund!

Se if thsis previous discussin helps

  • Vista Ultimate 64 bit Upgrade on Macbook?

Gents, I'm working on trying to install Vista 64 bit Ultimate on my Macbook in place of XP Home. (Yeah, Home only sees 1 core, and is a 32 bit OS with only 3 GBs of my RAM showing.) Anyway, how do I go about installing Vista 64 bit ultimate on here? The installer tells me that "Setup can not run on this version of the Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install media. What do I need to do? I'm going to try installing Vista 64 bit drivers on here first.
Update 1: Windows Vista 64 bit boot camp drivers will not install. Not a valid Win32 application. Do I need to go to Vista 32 bit first and then go from there?
    Message was edited by: CoriolisSTORM

Well!!! I have gotten EVERYTHING (to my knowledge) working except the iSight. I also don't know if the video out works or if the ethernet port actually works. First things first, I DID NOT have access to my Leopard DVD as I've misplaced it, and yes, I DO have a legit version from when I purchased my Macbook. Its just MIA right now. Anyway, first things first, I started by downloading the 2.1 Bootcamp update for Vista 64 bit from the "Downloads" section. I then used 7 Zip to unzip and get inside the archive. I then further unzipped it until I got down to the very basic inf files and all. I navigated to the Device Manager and set all of the devices without drivers to look for drivers in the location of the stripped archive. I went through the unknown devices and the ridiculous amount of HIDs and installed all the drivers one by one. Be careful with one of them, as you lose the mouse briefly. (Installing the KEYBOARD driver does that oddly enough!) Navigate to the next few HIDs and use keyboard shortcuts to install the drivers for them and you should gain the mouse back. I had previously installed the bluetooth drivers and all from another source, I can't remember how I did that. I also installed my video drivers from a download from the Intel site, this was before I stripped the archive. At this point, I had EVERYTHING except the function keys and iSight. I then found another download elsewhere of a full set of boot camp drivers and apps and went down to the "Apple" directory on it and installed "Bootcamp64". This took care of the rest of my issues (mainly the function keys and a hyperactive mouse) and that's where I am now. I hope this is useful to some of you guys! edit: This also gave me the boot camp system tray and control panel app and my USB modem is now recognized.

  • ThinkVantage GPS instantly crashes in Vista Ultimate x64

My W500 laptop came with XP preloaded and the GPS application started up fine. Now I installed Vista Ultimate x64, as well as all drivers I could find on the official website, and GPS does not work anymore. As soon as I start it, there is an immediate crash. Device manager does not show a single unknown device plugged in. I have the Ericcson F3507g module and the laptop came with a SIM card for it, which is installed. Can anyone shed some light on this situation?

The GPS app is just past the middle on the drivers page, http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70443
I am a little weary of using Windows 7 because it's RC still. Though with all those positive reviews floating around, I may jump on board soon.

  • Audigy 2 ZS: unknown device (game po

    Hello,
I just installed my SB Audigy 2 ZS PCI card under Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit Service Pack.
    Vista Driver downloaded from Creative:
    Version 2.2.0002
Now there is still an unknown device in the device manager. It's the game port of the Audigy 2 ZS card.
Where can I get a proper driver or how can I solve that problem?
    thanks,
    -phazer-

If you don't use the gameport you can always just ignore it. It won't hurt anything having nothing installed.
If it bothers you so much that you think you need to fix it you can try this,
    http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=3336
Seeing as gameports aren't really supported under Vista it is up to you whether it is worth the effort or not.

  • Equium A100: DVD/CD drive has stopped working code 22

Toshiba Equium A100 on Vista operating.
DVD/CD drive has stopped working and is showing as disabled. Have tried to re-enable but error code 22 returned. Can anyone help?

    Hi
The Microsoft page provides these details about error code 22
*This device is disabled. (Code 22)*
    _Recommended resolution_
+Enable the device by using Device Manager.+
+In Device Manager, click Action, and then click Enable Device. This starts the Enable Device wizard. Follow the instructions.+
It looks like you have already tired this. Well, in your case I would recommend removing the CD/DVD drive from the device list in the device manager. Just simply mark the device an press delete.
Then restart the notebook and check what happens.

  • Re: LAN not working on Equium A100-02K PSAAQE

    I have an Equium A100 - 02K, Model PSAAQE - 00N00LAV, S/N 57015844Q running Vista Home Premium.
Recently the LAN connection via cable failed although the wireless connection to the internet still works. There is no light displayed on the LAN socket when connected and the router does not show a connection. Running task manager shows that there is a problem with the LAN driver. I have reloaded the driver but still task manager shows a driver problem.
Is this a hardware problem or are there further steps I can take such as checking in the BIOS?

    Hi
I think its a only a software issue.
Please access the device manger and uninstall the LAN driver (you can mark the LAN card and could remove it too)
    Then reboot the notebook!
By the way; what error code appears in device manger near the LAN card?

  • Windows needs to install driver software for your unknown device

Windows needs to install driver software for your unknown device
This is the message that i get when ever i plug in my ipod touch to my computer. the computer is running on vista. i dont know what to do, because i tried to follow the steps suggested, but it didnt work, the computer said that it couldnt find anything and to check with apple for some driver software. HELP!!!

The iPod touch and iPhone do not use the same type of USB drivers that other Apple devices use. They both require Apple Mobile Device Services to be running. Using this tech article as a guide, you can easily fix this: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567
