Vista Ultimate on partitioned drive w Mac os works if vista on 2nd drive

yes that's how it is with my macpro.. a few months ago i had raid card so i had to install vista on separate drive which was placed in spare optical bay and hooked up via ipass to sata cable...i soon gave up on this cuz i wanted 2nd optical drive but i kept vista on the drive...now i have gotten rid of raid card and by accident was able to install vista on partition with mac os...but only with original vista drive in one of the bays... if i remove that drive and try to boot windows i get a "disc error" message and have to close...it's a real pain cuz i only have 4 drive bays and and vista is on a 250gb..drive...i imagine there is a boot initiation process that is buried in bios somewhere...does anyone know if i can make partioned vista boot without other drive in bay??

hi all...i just fixed it!! i noticed the partitioned drive didn't appear on mac desktop but the other boot drive did...so i ran disk utility and it showed it as not having a valid boot feature...so i booted w win disk, let it load and selected repair...i did this b4 with no luck but this time it came up with indication that "boot manager" was corrupt or missing...so i let it repair and now it works w out help from original boot drive...at least for now

but if i connect the same hard drive via usb it works fine is the hard drive faulty?

It sort of sounds like a startup disk issue.  Have you tried starting up holding down the "Option" key?  This should generally give you the option of which drive you want to boot from after a few seconds.  Sometimes, especially if you had previously booted from an external drive (and it sounds as if you have) they system wants to continue booting from that drive.  If it can't find it, it just sort of hangs there.  Try holding down the "Option" key and see if your internal drive is shown as an option.  If it is, select it.  If you manage to get into the OS, go to System Preferences / Startup Disk and select the correct drive (even if there is only one drive shown, you should still select it).

  • Lenovo T400 Vista Ultimate 64-bit - Fingerprint reader not working

I just recently upgraded from Vista Business 32-bit to Vista Ultimate 64-bit and after installing all the drivers and whatnot, I noticed the only thing not working is the fingerprint reader.
I'm using Lenovo Fingerprint Software Version: 3.3.2.27
    which is the right version.
I can't seem to find the driver for the fingerprint reader ANYWHERE for Vista 64-bit. Is the driver included in the software? Do I have to download it separately? If so, where? If not, then why isn't it working?!

  • External Hard Drive Sharing - Mac format works - FAT32 doesn't?

    Hello,
I recently upgraded to Lion and since the upgrade the sharing of my FAT32 external hard drive no longer works when connecting from a windows machine. I used to use this external drive as a backup and now I cannot access it. I did attempt to reformat the drive as Mac Journaled and then the drive sharing worked fine but I need this drive to be portable and functional on all OS'.
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks,
    Mathieu

All of the issues you'd find would be in reference to just connecting to a Windows server or PC, not necessarily accessing an external drive.
I assume you want it in a cross-platform format so that you can disconnect it and use it on a Windows machine. Otherwise, the format is irrelevant.
Have you gone into Sharing and set it up to share out the drive specifically, not just turn on File Sharing.

  • Formatted WD Elements external hard drive for mac, not working

    Hey.
So i recently got a new television and found that i could plug my WD Elements hard drive into it and watch my movies etc.
the hard drive hadnt been updated in a while, so last time i had updated it was before we got a mac. i plugged it in the other day to put new things on it and my mac recognized it but it said it was read only and wouldnt allow me to put new things onto it. After doing a bit of googling i realized i needed to format it. I thought i would give it a go see what happened. after looking on the forums i formatted it through either exFAT or NTFS. and my hard drive changed to read & write and i could put my things onto it. But when i plugged it into the tele it said no media was found(still recgonized my hd though)
I'm guessing ive done something wrong. i just don't know exactly what. any tips or suggestions on what to do next would be much appreciated! thanks
oh and my mac's version is 10.9.1

You did nothing wrong, you just need to find a format that can be shared by the Mac and your TV.
Mac can work with Mac formats (HFS), and Windows formats (FAT and NTFS), but NTFS will be only read only.
So your TV set, read NTFS but perhaps not FAT?, and your mac cannot write NTFS.
In order to write to NTFS devices, you must install one and only ONE of this comercial software:
    Tuxera or Paragon

  • +**Success with 10.5.3 Mac Pro Intel 8 Core and Vista Ultimate SP1

Long & Short Vista Ultimate SP1 needs a dedicated HD in MBR format Not GPT not Apple, Must be a MBR Partition formated in NTFS, Volumes accessible via Paragons NTFS for MAC. In case i was able install on 1 TeraByte with no problems. Yippy.
    Sean.

Great ! exactly the setup I wanted. I too plan to use Vista Ultimate 64 SP1 on my mac pro 2008.
So let me get this clear :
I remove the OSX HDD, I pop in my Vista ultimate 64 SP1 Dvd in the drive, boot via the DVD, format with NTFS using the MBR option and then let the install happen.
Most of us would be obliged if you could give a straight step by step direction.

  • Cannot install Vista Ultimate 64bits on Mac Pro 2008

    Hello,
I'm trying to install Vista Ultimate 64bits on my new Mac Pro (2008, 2x Quad Core, 3x 500GBHDD, 16 GB Ram), but Vista is unable to find a correct partition type.
The first thing I did was to install a 4th HD, and I constantly received an error 0x80004005 which seems to be too generic.
Then I tried to install it on the 3rd HD (Bay 2 is where my OS X startup disk is located btw) but here no way neither....Windows cannot find a valid partition.....
I tried to partition it manually in MBR...same problem....
    Then with BootCamp assistant...same problem...
I also tried to use Vista Business 64 SP1, same problem...
Do you have any idea ?
    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hello,
Thanks for your answer, but unfortunately I'm still stuck...
    To resume the situation :
I put a brand new 250GB SATA in the bay 4.
I start Bootcamp Assistant and tell him that I want to use this new disk for Windows and then start Vista x64 install.
Vista sees 2 partitions on this new disk :
    Disk 3 Partition 1 : 200 MB (Primary)
    Disk 3 Partition 2 : 230 GB (Primary)
If I try to use the P2 for the install, I have to format it first. Once formatted, Vista says : This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.
If I try to use the 200 MB (just for fun..), then I also have to format it, but here I receive the error message 0x8000xxxx
    So clearly I'm lost...
Could it be related to the 16 GB RAM ? Too much for Vista ?? I don't believe as this is Vista x64...
    Thanks for your help, ideas..
    Patrick

  • Tecra S10-106 - 3G driver for Vista Ultimate 64bit

    Hello,
I am owner of a Toshiba Tecra S10-106. Due to the fact that Vista Ultimate 64bit is much faster as Vista business 32bit, I would like to use Vista ultimate 64bit as operating system, but I can't find the 3G driver for Vista 64bit. All drivers can be downloaded from USA in english and can be used in german, only the 3G driver is missing. Can somebody else send me a download link or tell me where I can find a suitable driver for Vista 66bit?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
To enable the card you will also need to install the 3G RF Power control utility which is here at http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/3grf-en-20090217134719.zip.
That is only half the story as I think you also need to install the Value Added Package here http://support1.toshiba-tro.de/tedd-files2/0/vap-en-20090217134137.zip as this then enables the hotkeys to turn on and off the 3G wireless card.
    Hope that helps.
    Regards
    Phil

  • Will Boot Camp in leopard work with 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate?

I installed Boot Camp beta in Tiger. Then I installed the 64 bit version of windows Vista Ultimate. Many drivers were not installed such as the keyboard mapping driver. I bought Leopard. Should the version of Boot Camp in Leopard work with the 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate or would I probably encounter the same driver problems? Should I delete the Windows partition before upgrading to Leopard and then install the 32 bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate for all the drivers to work properly?
    Please advise what to do.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,
since the 'new' BootCamp 2.0 also only includes Driver support for the 32-bit Windows versions, you will get a 2nd Encounter.
Is there a specific reason for you to use the 64-bit versions, apart from maybe the 4GB RAM 'issue' ?
Installing the 32-bit version and then the Drivers from the OSX DVD should give you all the drivers needed.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • ITunes stopped working in Vista Ultimate

My iTunes stopped working, won't even start up in Windows Vista Ultimate. Tried uninstalling/reinstalling. Nothing works. iTunes 7.3 is dead in the water. Any assistance for this problem? (Besides switching to a Mac?)

As I posted in many other people's suffering posts....
    in a nutshell....
Sorry, you and I and a small minority of others have Windows Vista and it simply will NOT work with iTunes, any version of 7.x.
Apple doesn't seem to care as we aren't a big enough group to care about.
After several weeks of this nonsense, today I spent most of the afternoon researching other music manager software that will also synch with my iPod.
It looks like I will be heading that way as this is too ridicious that someone can't deal with this and help us.

  • Imac 24 3.06 file sharing with a pc with vista ultimate

I can not see my shared files on my Imac since loading vista ultimate before when I had Xp it worked ok. I am pretty sure the problem is with the pc side. Please help

I would not disable it if I did not have other firewall software installed. I use Norton on my XP box and you can set Norton Firewall to allow certain machines only for certain purposes...a more granular setup. I don't have a Vista box here so I can't say how configurable the firewall is on Vista. I have one at my office and if I find the time, I will play around with it and see if I can come up with something.

  • IPhone knocks off External USB backup drive from Mac Pro

I noticed that my backup drive, while running Time Machine, kept unmounting on its own. I though the drive had failed. I checked it and had no obvious problem. The drive is IDE and two or three years old. I used on Vista for a few weeks and not problem. I formatted and used it again for Leopard and it kept unmounting and disappears from my desktop. I upgraded to Snow Leopard and it mounted, but as soon as I plug in my iPhone to charge/sync the drive dismounts and disappears from my desktop. I remove the phone and restart and the drive is back. I have not done a sync for a week and the drive and Time Machine worked without issues. The drive has its own AC plug and is self powered. Anyone encountering this? Going to try switching to FireWire. Maybe too many things plugged in? USB Canon LiDE 30 scanner and USB hub causing this? Thanks in advance.

I solved the odd abrupt dismounting of my back up drive. I got rid of the USB cable that came with my iPhone when I saw it frayed on one end. I used the generic car charger cable for charging and syncing. When I picked up an authentic iPhone USB cable the drive didn't get knocked off. I have both plugged where as I had to unmount and unplug the drive or the iPhone. For the benefit of others.
