Vista upgrade on 24" imac to play Halo 2?

Hi,
Ijust tried posting in the Windows section but the site is down so i'll post here if that's ok?
I have a full version of Windows XP installed on my 24" imac and it runs fine.
I now hve a Windows Vista upgrade disc and was wondering if i can use this disc to properly upgrade to Vista or do i need a full version?
Also i want to play Halo 2 and was wondering if anyone has this game running ok on an imac?
All the windows games i have installed in XP work fine (exept fo King Kong for some reason) and i don't want to upgrade to Vista for Halo at the expence of my other games if it does'nt work.
Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I don't have anything running. I installed World of Warcraft basically right out of the box. I love Apple but it doesn't look like they've put a lot of effort into the gaming community. Even looking at the Mac Pro there are only a couple of graphic card options and they are old when considering graphic card evolution. The aluminum iMac is only a couple of months old and it comes with the HD 2600 which is rapidly headed towards the low end value market. ATI is already in the 3800 series (HD 3850 & 3870) and NVIDIA is in the 8800 series. Neither of these series are supported on the Mac Pro to the best of my knowledge. My wish would be that Apple give us gamers a little more attention. It's a big market and worth the effort. Sadly for now it looks like my beautiful iMac will have to be delegated to work detail (word processing, e-mail, finances, etc.) and my XP system will be for fun and games. (Wow! That's a reverse on the PC vs. Mac commercials.) Thanks!

  • Vista Upgrade - No Longer Synchs Files iTunes to iPod Nano

What a nightmare - iTunes/iPod worked beautifully with XP - but when I upgraded to Vista it stopped synchronising all my files onto my iPod. Some files says "I am not authorised to use on this computer". Tried to re-authorise but iTunes (despite recognising my my iTunes account to re-set password) then said I had to set up a new account. As well as not synching stuff I have purchased on iTunes it also is not synching audio MP4 files I have bought from Audiable Books despite before Vista upgrade always seemlessly synched with iPod. This is totally ruining my experience with iPod - so before I throw it out of my window please help me get my iTunes and iPod synching properly so I can play the music I have purchased and books. HELP HELP yours very frustrated!!!!

Please be patient, sync issues are time consuming, if you are lucky, just a Hard Rest and Restore will solved it.
    Ok Software Version 1.1.2.
So you can see all your 10,000 songs, in the new PC iTunes, and do you have any problem syncing the iPod using iTunes 10.5.3.3 on the old computer?
Can you do a Hard Reset  as below
After charging till full charge, at least 2 hours (preferably 4 hours)
Toggle the Hold switch, make sure you dont see the red mark when you do the  next step
Reset the iPod -> Press Menu and Center button simultaneously for about 10 secs till the Apple Logo comes ON
    Then release the buttons
    Select your preferred language.
Here is the Apple support Article on the 5Rs

On your iTunes please reset alert warnings, so that we can see the errors.

We need to see what problems iTunes is having
Then connect your iPod to the new PC and sync again.

  • Is it time to upgrade to an imac

    Hi..
I currently work on Logic 9 and kontakt 8 library and some other au instruments.. All of this is connected to a 2009 MacBook with 2gb ram.
My only question to the experts is whether a ram upgrade would let me work full fledgedly or is it time for me to upgrade to an iMac ??
I haven't received any replies when I posted the same on the logic forum, would appreciate if you could take some time and post ur suggestions..
    Cheers,
    Gaggy

Adding more RAM to your computer probably wouldn't hurt. Upgrading to an iMac would be a step in the right direction unless portability is essential. But new iMacs come with Lion or Mountain Lion, so you should first determine if your essential software is compatible.

  • How do I get my iMac to play CDs & DVDs that were created on a PC

I have been trying to get my new iMac to play CDs and DVDs that have been created on a PC. All I can get it to do is say "Supported disk not available" Is there something I am not doing right? Or do I have to download some other program to get it to interface with the PC or what. I am brand to to the Mac world and at this point am getting frustrated. I would appreciate any help you can give me.

My OS X version is Lion 10.7.3
When I double click on the DVD icon i get the viewer and the little remote control. All it says on the viewer is Support disc not available when I push play. If I just incert the DVD into the DVD drive I get absolutely nothing. No viewer, no remote, no full screen, no attempt to start. This disc runs just fine on my PC laptop.
You are getting closer. In Finder you will see the DVD appear under Devices, Single Click it so it's highlighted. Then you will see all the files on it. Single Click 1 File then type Command A (Select All) then Command C (Copy) and under the Favorites in the sidebar you will see an icon for Desktop, Single Click Desktop and then type Command V (Paste) and you have copied them onto your iMac's desktop.

  • How can I remotely control what iTunes song my iMac is playing to multiple AppleTV's?

So I own an iMac that has homesharing enabled.  I then tell the iMac to play to both of my AppleTV's by holding OPTION key down while clicking on Airplay, and checking off the devices that I want it to stream to filling my home with sound that is in sync in every room.  Works beautifully.  Only problem is that I can not then control the iMac remotely from let's say the bedroom to pick a new artist.  The ATV's become dumb clients simply playing what the iMac is pumping to them.  Is there a remote interface that allows me to control iTunes on the iMac to choose the sounds being broadcast to the other Apple devices?
NO.  VNC is a ghetto work around to accomplish this.  Yes, I could do that, but it is inefficient, and inelegant.  I am looking for a remote control app with the  functionality that allows me to connect to and see the device that I want to control, and then by choosing my iMac, see all artists/albums/songs, play them and let the iMac pump the tunes to the devices that I told iTunes to Airplay to.
Ideally, the AppleTV's should know that they are acting as clients to the iMac serving centrally, but when I pick up an AppleTV remote, it overrides the stream from the iMac, and then the ATV begins streaming independently from the other.  I KNOW there is a solution to this...
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!
    Adam

ok...  solved it.  By using the Apple Remote app, you can tell the app to control your iMac (I did not know that) and that solved the issue.  Now the iMac plays the song I want to all of the devices that I told the iMac to play to.  Perfect.

  • Windows Vista - iTunes 8 - Music will not play - PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP

I have the lovely Vista, new iTunes 8 and cannot play music. I have uninstalled, reinstalled, tried all the fixes posted elsewhere in the blogs, like repairing, setting quicktime as default etc. I even tried older iTunes (but had an ".itl" issue).
    NOTHING works.
Please someone bring wisdom to this iTunes disaster.

You say you tried ALL the fixes, and NONE work. So either there is no fix, or there is and you missed it, or you didn't follow what was written.
My guess is the hardest part is knowing why, describing the problem adequately for others, rather than a general "won't play music."

  • I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes.  Before iOS 8, movies played fine.  After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive.  Anyone else have a similar issue?

I bought a Sandisk Connect Media Drive, downloaded the app from iTunes.  Before iOS 8, movies played fine.  After iOS upgrade I can no longer play movies downloaded from iTunes to the media drive.  Anyone else have a similar issue?

I checked with SanDisk's own online support and they indicate that they have notified Apple of the issue.
According to SanDisk, the problem lies with Apple not having the iOS 8 version of the Safari browser having DRM decoding enabled that the Media Drive relies upon to decode and play iTunes DRM titles. Non DRM encoded videos will play in the browser.
DRM audio is not effected as this is handled by the native iOS music app.
As of the date of this post SanDisk have not been given a timeframe by Apple for this issue to be resolved.
I hope that Apple resolves this issue quickly as I have a large collection of DRM video titles on a 128Mb memory card installed in the Media Drive that I am unable to view.

  • What hard drive can I upgrade with on iMac intel early 2010

what hard drive can I upgrade with on iMac intel 27 inches early 2010

You can install any 3'5" SATA hard drive on a Late 2009 iMac. Have a look at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/internal_storage/hard_drives_and_SSD
Note that Late 2009 and later iMacs have got the temperature sensor inside the hard drive. If you install a hard drive without a sensor, fans won't work correctly. Read > http://blog.macsales.com/2751-proprietary-cable-can-put-the-brakes-on-upgrading- late-09-imacs

  • Since I upgraded to Mavericks I cannot play .AVI files in Aperture

Hi, I have about 1 Tera of .AVI videos as referenced files to Aperture libraries that I have spent long time organizing, tagging, and keywording... Since I upgraded to Mavericks I cannot play these videos any longer. I can play them with VLC or DivX but not within Aperture. Is there any way to ask Aperture to use VLC to play the videos? Or to get Quicktime to play them within Aperture? I assume I am not the only one with this problem but haven't found any way to solve it.
Thanks a lot for any hint!

Hi, I have about 1 Tera of .AVI videos as referenced files to Aperture libraries that I have spent long time organizing, tagging, and keywording..
It is probably not a question of avi or mov. AVI is just a container for media with a variaty of codecs. It will depend on the codecs you installed, if Aperture will be able to show these.
What is your Aperture version? Have you upgraded to Aperture 3.5.1? My Aperture version has no problems to show my AVIs. I installed Perian 1.2.3 to have more codecs.

  • What steps to upgrade panther on imac

I want to upgrade an old imac 350mhz (Indigo, slot loader with 192 mb ram) with Panther retail disks. It's only for internet use by my infant children to access their school website etc.
I've carried out quite an exhaustive search over this forum to find an overview of the steps i need to action. So far i've added the latest firmware update, upgraded the hard drive to a 20gb drive, changed the pram battery and ordered another 512mb memory stick from Crucial.
Usually i'd zero write the hard drive and install panther on the clean disk. I'm worried that this will erase the firmware update. Is this right or need i not be worried?
If anybody can provide a link that easily identifies each step i would be very grateful.
I do not intend to leave OS 9.2.2 on the computer - Can this cause any issues further down the line such as if i need to boot from disk etc?

firmware dones't reside on the hard drive, its loaded to the motherboard, so it doens't matter what you do to the drive, the firmware update is there an nothing can change that.
getting rid of OS 9 shouldn't cause any problem, other than you won't be able to use classic in OS X.

    Retail Leopard disc looks like this;
(The disc itself has the same logo). If the one you've got is grey it simply won't work.
Given the retail and second hand prices of Leopard (usually some on Amazon MP), you'll probably find it cheaper to go directly to Snow Leopard, although there could be software updates and printer driver problems that could nullify the difference.

  • I just upgraded an old Imac from Leopard to Snow Leopard, now it won't work

I just upgraded my 2003 imac from leopard to snow leopard and after restart all I get is a blue screen.  Nothing happens.  How can I get back to the old leopard.  I use this computer for research just because of the 23'' screen.  Help

I'm sure that a 2003 machine is incapable of accepting Snow Leopard.   Have you checked the specs to see if it is ...
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard -Read the Technical Specifications
In particular, check the amount of RAM you have.
You could contact Apple through your National Apple store with the serial number of your machine to see if they can provide a replacement DVD ... but I doubt they can.

  • Where do I find upgrades for my imac G4, 800 mhz for OSX?

I have an IMAC G4 that is currently running OS X 10.2.8
I need to upgrade my safari since it mis-reads some pages when using this IMAC. But I can't upgrade safari unless I can upgrade the OS X.
I can find upgrades for 10.3.9 but can't install without upgrading to 10.3.
No where on the apple website is there an upgrade to bring my 10.2.8 into the 10.3. Was this a major upgrade that required a purchase?
My other mac is an ibook, running 10.3.9. Ideas on how I can find this other upgrade for my imac?

    Hello Kathy:
OS X 10.2.8 is the last one in that release.
"No where on the apple website is there an upgrade to bring my 10.2.8 into the 10.3. Was this a major upgrade that required a purchase?"
The answer to this question is yes OS X 10.3 is a new release of OS X.
If you are considering upgrading, I would consider OS X 10.4 The new Safari (2.0.1) is faster and has an RSS reader. You can go directly from where you are (10.2.8) to Tiger (OS X 10.4). I would suggest an archive and install if you decide to proceed:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120.
Your iBook no doubt came with 10.3 installed. In addition to being illegal (according to the license agreement) your iBook install software would probably not work on your iMac. If you wish to get OS X 10.4, purchase a 'family' license. In that way, you may legally install on up to five computers in your household.

  • Problems with Vista upgrade on Moduslink

'COA invalid', 'Irrecoverable Error', 'Alert not Implemented'... these are kind of messages I get from Moduslink. I'm not expecting to reply my emails since they are in neck-deep.
I love my A100 SAA9E, a very stable and powerful machine. I'm from London and have selected all the right options, but it would either come up with a random COA prob, or an error after my penultimate step.
    What can I do? Help.
    Shawn

I was unable to complete the Vista upgrade via the Moduslink on Toshiba's website http://wwww.toshiba-europe.com/vista-upgrade, even though I got to paying for the upgrade with my credit card. When my payment was being processed I got an 'unrecoverable error', so I went back to repeat the process and this time the site didn't recognize my COA on the bottom of the laptop.
I contacted Moduslink via the following Tel No. 00800 666 44 666 (UK) and spoke to one of their support staff (choose options 5 and then 8). There is a problem with their site excepting payments from credit or debit cards. The representative reset my COA, but it takes 48 hours for it to clear (so much from electronic data communications to servers). I have been told to retry the upgrade process again on Friday 16/02/2007, however, this time to pay either by wireless transfer from my bank or send a cheque.
Hopefully, this will help others who were frustrated with the Vista upgrade debacle. It would be more appropriate however, if the company concerned, Modulink, resolved the issue in the 1st place. Firstly by informing their customers that there was an issue, secondly on a work around to the problem and finally fixing the problem. Will commonsense ever prevail?
