Vista Won't Recognize My Shuffle At All!

When I connect my dock and iPod to my USB port, nothing happens. The problem is not iTunes, but Vista itself. I have confirmed that my USB ports are working through Windows and by attaching my digital camera as a test. This has happened before, and it just magically started working again! I filled my iPod with no trouble about a week ago. I am running iTunes 7.6, which is the most recent. Restarting my computer does not help. As always, Windows troubleshooting shoots blanks.
Does this sound familiar to anyone? And has anyone noticed that Apple support has no email support for this situation? Help!

The same problem with me. I previously had an iPod shuffle 1st generation on my other computer, which was Windows2000, and the USB port broke off so i got an ipod shuffle 2nd generation and i got a new computer, which is Vista, and i just plugged my iPod shuffle 2nd gen in for the first time and iTunes did not show iPod shuffle. and nothing happened at all! Windows said that it could "not find the hardware" and it told me to install iTunes and i reinstalled it and still, nothing happens

  • Computer harddrive crashed, now restored, won't recognize iPod Shuffle

    Hello,
My hardrive crashed and after the restore, I've lost all my playlists. I reinstalled iTunes, then connected the Shuffle, but iTunes won't recognize the Shuffle. I guess it would normally appear under "Store" on the left side of the iTunes page.
    Please advise.

When I connect it to a powered port on the right side of eMac, I get no recognition from iTunes (or desktop).
Other USB devices used are keyboard and printer. (Soundsticks II in audio hole - unrelated I figure.)
iPod flashes green once, orange and green once, and then to orange flashing.
When installed both iTunes 5 and 5.0.1, computer wouldn't shutdown properly initially. I had to unplug powercord. And initial update of 5.0.1 bogged down and I had to force quit and try again.

  • Vista won't recognize jars

    Hi!
I got a new computer with Vista, to which I have installed the latest JRE. The problem is that Vista won't recognize jars as executables, or even a valid file type for that matter. When I try to run a jar I get the regular Windows "Which program would you like to open this file with?"-dialog. When I run the jar from the command line, everything seems to work fine though.
    Any ideas?

Uninstalled and reinstalled the new update. I even ran the setup as admin, but no dice. And there's no Java settings in the control panel either.

  • Computer won't recognize new Shuffle

Just got my new 4th Gen. Shuffle in the mail and connected it to my mac laptop but it won't recognize it. I've tried "resetting" the shuffle using Apple's directions, I've restarted my computer, downloaded the latest version of iTunes and NOTHING! Anyone else having issues? Do I need to call? This is ridiculous...

First, run through the Apple troubleshooting suggestions:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/shuffle2gen/
That is for an older version of the ipod, but I would imagine that it will give you some good ideas.
If none of that helps, I would suggest completely uninstalling all the Apple stuff and reinstalling. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall itunes and whatever else was installed for Apple - that includes their USB software.
    Then, reinstall it all.
One other thing to try before doing all that is to shut down your computer and disconnect everything except for your keyboard, mouse and ipod. Then start it up again. If it comes up, then you know that some other USB thing on the bus was conflicting with your iPod. Also make sure you are connecting directly to the computer, not through a hub - just to make sure. If it works, then maybe try using the hub again. If it fails after that, you know it was the hub causing an issue. If it works, reconnect your USB items one at a time and restart after each reconnect until you find what was conflicting.
    Hope that helps,
    i

  • New 'puter(Vista/PC) won't recognize old shuffle

Hi -thanks for trying to help. I bought a new Compaq Presario PC w/Vista & downloaded the latest iTunes. My shuffle is plugged into the same USB port that I used prior to changing cpus & has the green light on but doesn't appear in iTunes list. In the left hand column I see (in descending order) Library, Store, & Playlists but not my iPod. I also read other postings & checked under Device Manager but don't see it there, either. I tried the 5Rs.
FYI, under the File tab, there are listings for "Synch Songs Onto (My) iPod" & "Transfer Purchases From (My)iPod, showing that it is somehow acknowledging the existence of my shuffle but not listing it in the left hand column for my to click onto play from my iPod. Strange...
Again, much thanks for your time & assistance.

Can the HP PC get network/Internet access, via Ethernet, connected to any other wired router ... just not your 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn)?

  • Windows won't recognize ipod shuffle still !! Please Help

Ok, I just got this thing from a work awards website, you know your work gives you points and you can buy things with them? Anyway my wife has a 20gb ipod, pretty cool, so I figure I'll get the shuffle cause she won't let me near her ipod. I get it last week try to set it up and nothing it can't be recognized by the computer. So I think maybe it's not getting fully seated in the USB port and go buy a docing station today, come home hook it up, same problem, the darn computer doesn't recognize it, nothing. So I see that there is an on-line chat support tool, I think very cool they can help me. I enter my S/N and it says it was purchased like 4 months ago, no support for me. So now I'm very agravated, I just got this thing, but because the awards place bought it a while ago I'm out the 90-day support. I've done everything in the FAQ's it's charged, I've reset it a thousand times, I've tried to reload the shuffle but windows doesn't recognize it so I can't. What really makes me mad is the 20gb ipod works fine. I read in here that when you see amber and green isn't good? Thats all I see when I turn it on and touch any button. What does this mean? someone help me here, please... I'm going nuts

was having this problem among others. Found that I could see it in windows explorer but only as an additional disk but nothing in itunes. reformatted in windows, used updater then ejected from explorer. when fires up itunes and then reconnected ipod - it found it.

  • Windows Vista Won't Recognize Internet Networks

I just installed Windows Vista Home Basic on my MacBook Pro with Boot Camp. I have Road Runner wireless internet and my Mac side recognizes and connects all the time, but my Windows side doesn't recognize it or any other network. What's the problem and how can I fix it?
    Thanks,
    Sam

Uninstalled and reinstalled the new update. I even ran the setup as admin, but no dice. And there's no Java settings in the control panel either.

  • ITunes Won't Recognize iPod Shuffle with Multiple Users

I'm having trouble getting iTunes in my user account to recognize my 10 year old's iPod shuffle.
Here's the problem. I share my laptop (running Windows XP home) with my 10 year old son. I have a 2nd generation iPod and I have iTunes set to sync automatically with my iPod. That works fine.
Meanwhile, I just got an iPod shuffle for my son. He has his own user account on my computer, and when we log off my account, then sign in to his account and launch iTunes, iTunes recognizes his iPod shuffle just fine and is able to put music on it.
But sometimes I want to put a few of the songs from my library on his iPod shuffle.
The problem is, when I log off his account and switch to mine, then attach his iPod shuffle to the USB port, I first get a message which asks me if I want to link his iPod shuffle to my library and replace all the songs with songs from my library. When I click "No" the iPod shuffle does not show up in the source list (and, I have noticed, it also disappears from "My Computer" after I click "No" in that dialogue box).
Is there any way around this problem? Any way I can get the iPod shuffle to show up in the Source list when I am logged into my account?
    thanks
    PD

Hi, thanks very much for your note, but I don't believe that document solves my problem.
My problem is not that I cannot set up separate libraries on one computer -- I have been able to do that successfully.
My problem is that I cannot get MY library to recognize my son's iPod. As I stated, each time I connect his iPod shuffle, I get a dialogue box asking if I want to link his iPod shuffle to my library. When I click "No" the iPod shuffle is not recognized, and also disappears from "My Computer".
Is that how it should be working normally? (I have always been able to connect different iPods to my library. But perhaps this is how the iPod shuffle works -- it can only be recognized by one library?)

  • PowerBook won't recognize iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen, PC will

Just before I throw yet another iPod Shuffle 2nd Gen 1GB down the toilet, I thought I'd check here for "Death Row"/"Life Support" suggestions. I've read similar questions with no, or unhelpful, answers, but here goes anyway:
After a whopping two weeks of use, my iPod stopped being recognized by my PowerBook. Not in iTunes, not in System Profiler, not in UNIX (etc etc). However, it is still being recognized by an old PC laptop I have that runs Windows 2000. So far I've tried the following:
    -- The 5 R's
-- rolling back to iTunes 6 on Mac
-- iPod Reset Utility on the PowerBook (Mac doesn't recognize it so that's a dead end)
-- Restoring the iPod on the PC via iTunes
-- iPod Reset Utility on the PC
-- formatting the iPod as a drive on the PC
-- running Yamipod on both Mac and PC (admittedly, that was desperate)
Nothing, absolutely nothing, got the Mac to recognize the iPod. At this point, I've already used my one phone call with Apple Support (owning an iPod is kinda like being in jail!) and, even though it's under warranty, since I'm in the middle of nowhere in Mexico, getting the iPod back to Apple will cost me, oh, about the cost of a new iPod Shuffle!

If anyone comes across this post because they have the same problem, and you're "tech-savvy" enough to figure out how to reset your iPod, forget it, do yourself a favor and stop looking in this forum.
Below are links to three recent posts, all people with the same problem, none of them got any help from any Apple moderators and got "helpful" answers like "try cleaning your USB port" and "did you sweat too much while using it?"

  • Creative MediaSource won't recognize my Zen Micro all of the sudden!! What is going o

When I first began using my Zen Micro, Creative MediaSource worked fine. I could start my player and it recognized it right away. Then I was told I had to update my firmware and download an update to MediaSource. I did both but shortly thereafter I started having problems! Primarily, when i plug in my Micro a window pops up where I have 3 options, none of which are Creative MediaSource. The window has "MTP Media Player" across the top bar, but i havn't a clue what the "MTP" stands for. The 3 options given are "Sync your music using Napster", "Synchronize media files to this device using Windows Media Player", and "Take no action". I initialy tried "Take no action" and then opened MediaSource only to find it didn't recognize my Micro any more. I then e-mailed Creative for help and got a reply telling me to.............
Thank you for contacting Creative Technical Support.
In regards to your issue, you can try uninstall and reinstall
    MEdiaSource with these procedures.
. Click START -> RUN -> type MSCONFIG and click OK.
    2. Click SELECTIVE STARTUP and then uncheck LOAD STARTUP GROUP ITEMS.
    3. Apply the changes and reboot the computer when prompted.
    4. Uninstall MediaSource from the system using ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS.
    5. Manually delete the MediaSource folders from the computer system :
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\CTCDDB
    C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIA MANAGER
    C:\MEDIA\MUSIC
    6. Right-click your My Computer icon and click Properties.
    7. Click the Hardware tab and then click Device Manager.
    8. Remove any listings for Creative NOMAD products in the Device
    Manager
(they will most likely be located in the Uni'versal Serial Bus
    Controllers category).
    9. If you have a category call Other Devices, look for listings in
    there
called USB Device. If you have any, remove them.
    0. Install MediaSource only from the original installation CD.
NOTE: DO NOT OPEN MEDIASOURCE WHILE PERFORMING THESE PROCEDURES.
Also, you can try reloading the Zen Micro's firmware through recovery
    mode.
Move and hold the Power button to the Power On position and re-insert
the battery to the Zen Micro. Hold the Power button until the rescue
    mode appears.
Clean Up: Performs a disk scan on the players hard disk
Format: Formats the players hard disk All contents will be lost
Reload OS: Reloads the Operating System on the Jukebox. Do not select
this option unless you have downloaded the firmware. Reloading your OS
will not effect the contents of the files stored on your Jukebox Zen
    Reboot: Reboots the device
Please attempt the options 'Reboot' and 'Clean Up' first. If they do
    not
help, you must try 'Reload OS'. To do this, you must have a downloaded
firmware from our website ready. Please let us know the results after
these steps, as soon as possible.
For faster service please reply with previous correspondence when
    replying to this email.

    "Get Creative"
I followed the directions, but 3 of the folders listed in step 5 didn?t exist (only C:\PROGRAM FILES\CREATIVE\MEDIASOURCE did), there were no Creative NOMAD products listed as in step 8, and there was no ?Other Devices? as stated in step 9. I did everything else for all the steps through step 0.
I then re-installed Creative MediaSource from the CD only to find it still didn?t recognize my player! I?ve now done this twice with the same results!
Zen Micro Media Explorer doesn?t even recognize my Micro when it'ss plugged in! It just keeps saying ?The device is not connected. Please connect your Zen Micro to the computer?.
I?m hardly a tech expert, but it seems to me that something on my PC is detecting my player and decieding for itself that the only 2 programs it will let manage my Zen Micro are Napster and Windows Media Player. If this is the case where do I go from here?!?!

    LakeTahoeGuy,
Just as SSR mention, if you're using v2.xx.xx (MTP) firmware then you will need to get the correct version of Media Explorer that support this firmware and also install the MTP plugin for MediaSource. Both the software and plugin are available from the site SSR mention.

  • ITunes won't recognize 2nd shuffle, even AFTER fresh reinstall of app

Truly confusing problem that I am having...
If you missed my last two posts here is the situation:
I can not get my new 2nd ipod shuffle to be recognized by iTunes on my powerbook G4 1ghz 17inch EVEN THOUGH the finder shows the correct icon and format of the device. Through many trouble shooting attempts I have determined that the problem was iTunes itself. However, doing a complete wipe and reinstall of iTunes via software update does not fix the problem.
I am aware that the settings window for the shuffle is TOTALLY different than the one above which is for a normal ipod. There is no autofill option or soundcheck option, etc. Since I am running 10.4.9 and the latest version of iTunes...what is the problem that is preventing the software from recognizing the device for what it is and showing the appropriate settings window?
Why will iTunes fudge up an ipod shuffle and yet the OS X Finder is correct?
(The shuffle was reset and synced on a newer machine, I will not erase it and resync the shuffle to my machine because of the problem above. It actually makes the shuffle NOT play music even though I can verify that the data is on there via a 3rd party application called "PodWorks". This is a very strange situation. I have deleted every shred of iTunes or iPod related file from my machine and yet it still persists. Any suggestions?)
    thanks!

Yeah, I knew there were others out there like me because of the way my situation was handled by my local "mac genius" crew at the Apple store. After they too realized it was not the ipod and trashing iTunes didn't correct the problem, they immediately decided to just give me a new shuffle. I tried to insist that I stay and open the new shuffle right there to see if the problem was truly fixed and they started talking about all this jazz that essentially boiled down to them not really having any idea of how to proceed next...which was to get me to buy a new laptop. How insane to think I need to buy a new laptop for Apple's most basic iPod in their line! My $80 birthday gift was suddenly going to cost me $2799 to be able to use it? I don't think so.
Hate to seem so negative but I am really frustrated and reading the forums I am realizing that most of the "help" is just members pointing people to easily found information on Apple's site. I am hoping for someone who might at least attempt at an explanation, no matter how unlikely, towards why we are having this issue.
    sigh

  • Win xp won´t recognize ipod shuffle

i have a problem. i got the "old" ipod shuffle from a friend, on his laptop it runs with no problems, on mine i tried for hours unsuccesfully.
i have latest itunes installed, and installed "ipodsetup.exe" from apple.com.
everytime i plug the shuffle in my laptop, windows says "new hardware found: ipod". but can´t find any drivers or so. anf says "hardware can't be installed"... aaargh.
    what to do?
i installed nearly 7 times. deinstalled all apple-stuff, reinstalled everything, no way.
    any ideas?

I don't know if yours is the same problem, my PC did not recognise the ipod via the USB interface. I went out and bought a firewire cable today.
The ipod was immediately recognised and ITUNES updated. I then connected the USB cable. It now works OK as well. I am so relieved.
My topic description which I posted is attached for information :-
I have a a 15GB ipod with dock connector. It was working fine playing songs and was visible from my Windows XP PC via the single USB cable. I could see ipod files.
I downloaded ipod updater 2005-09-23 and selected update.
    Thereafter :-
Ipod is no longer recognised by the PC, it gives - "usb device not recognised" when the menu button is pressed.
The ipod screen is blank. Reset gives the apple logo then the icon asking to connect the cable ( which is already connected).
Other usb interfaces on the PC give the same message.
Other devices connect OK to these USB interfaces.
The cable was working prior to the update.
Another PC ( compaq laptop ) gives the same "usb interface error message" when the ipod is connected.
the problem is within the ipod usb interface.
The updater appears to have corrupted/changed the ipod "usb interface"
I am unable to update again or restore as no connection available to the PC.
How can I restore the ipod's usb connectivity?

  • ITunes 5.0.1 still won't recognize iPod shuffle

    This is really getting old.

Same problem. I didn't see your earlier posting. I don't want my computer to erase my Shuffle, so it is set to manual. When I plug the Shuffle into the USB port, I get an alert asking if I really want to connect, and do I want to erase everything? When I answer "no" the iTunes startup continues, but no mounted image of the Shuffle appears. Once I answered "yes" deliberately, and of course erased everything. This time the Shuffle icon appeared in iTunes, and I was allowed to spend half an hour or so choosing new songs and loading them. The Shuffle works fine, but iTunes 5.01 doesn't. I had the same result with two computers, a Powerbook 12 with OSC 10.4.2 re-installed yesterday (a clean install, of course, takes many hours), and a PowerPC G5. Please, please, won't somebody start a computer company for the rest of us--it is such a powerful idea, and I'm sure someone can do it right.

  • 11.0.5 won't recognize iphone 5, tried all trouble shoots offered.  Anything else?

I have read alot of the posts about iPhone 5 not being recognized now that people upgraded to 11.0.5 itunes software.
I went through all the trouble shooting for Mac OS 10.8.4 and itunes 11.0.5 and restarting either device, checking and changing USB 2.0 ports
and everything else has yeilded no ability for my iMac to recognize my iphone 5 at all.
    Any other ideas?

As you can see by the lack of response to your question, even though there are lots of willing and competent readers of your question, when you say "I've tried everything ...", then what else could someone possibly suggest?
Instead, try enumerating either all the steps you have tried, or all the articles you have read (and are certain you tried every single remedy listed) in these articles.
There is an article out there that will contain a solution to your issue.

A couple months ago, I bookmarked this page:
    http://forums.palm.com/palm/board/message?board.id=windows_hotsync&thread.id=17980
I NEED the information on it regarding what to do about syncing via bluetooth for a Palm Centro. I now regret not printing it when the post was visible, but now I get a "message not found" error.
I thought that page had step by step how-to for syncing with bluetooth to the Centro.  Since I have Vista 64-bit, I know that's what I need to do.
Any ideas what happened to that post? Was it moved? To where? I've been browsing the board for an hour now and getting really frustrated.  Thanks.
