Vista wont Recognize my Zen Sleek at

I've seen a lot of posts and threads about people saying it wont work on their Windows Vista computers, but no one really has the problem I have. Windows Vista wont recognize my Creative Zen Sleek AT ALL. I plug it in, vista makes a sounds then nothing happens. The mp3 player is charging but nothing at all is happening. Can someone help please? I've been having this problem for months.

The thing is, I didn't install anything. When I got my new Vista computer, I plugged it in and everything worked fine. I couldn't install or can't install anything. The 3rd time I tried it wont recognize it at all. I plug it in and nothing happens.

the zen sleek says that it;s docked but? window's player says that it doesnt recognize it. help!

It's MTP, there are no drivers. but the principal is correct.
First of all are you sure your brother has USB .0? Because it is NOT designed to work with USB .0, it needs AT LEAST ., preferably 2.0. Whether it works or not I'd suggest buying a USB 2.0 PCI expansion card...
Now, there is a certain update for DRM devices that needs to be installed sometimes.
IF this is the case you will find it if you go to Windows Updates and select custom instead of express.
You will find it under software updates... If you do then this means you don't have it which subsequently means that you'll need to install it...
Also look in the CD your player came with, you MAY find it there, or you may simply find WMP0, try also re-installing it again.
    Hope that helps
    Cheers!

    Hello there,
    And welcome to Apple Discussions,
Have you installed the Airport Utility using the disc that came with the Time Capsule? You will need this application to properly set up and configure the TC.
You can also download it from here.

Brand new Vista Ultimate system. No sound card previusly installed. Installed the Audigy 2 ZS and device manager keeps telling me the Creative Game Port did not install properly. I used the most current Vista drivers/app off the creative site as indicated by the driver find wizard for my product:?SBAXVSD_PCDRV_LB_2_2_0002

    Hey D.K, [lol]
just wondering. Let's say i have? a sound card with gameport feature on it.

What firmware is your Zen Sleek running? (Menu-> System-> Information)
It needs to have the PlaysForSure firmware so that Vista recognizes it as an MTP Device.
Check out the information on the Drivers for PlayForSure Zen Micro, Zen Sleek, Zen Touch or Zen Xtra on Windows98SE/Me/2000 sticky thread.
Unfortunately it's a bit rough upgrading firmware on Vista as there's a Catch-22: Vista won't recognize your device until the firmware is updated, but you can't update the firmware unless Vista recognizes your device. :|
The work-around is to update the firmare on an XP machine and then plug it into the Vista machine. MTP Devices are supposed to be supported by Vista, so it should recognize your Zen Sleek.
MicroSoft could have saved the world a lot of grief by having decent Legacy Device support, but that's another thread in itself.
    /hope that hel

  • Zen Sleek Firmware Upgrade, now my Zen is kap

First off, if the answer to this has been posted I apologise, Ive been trying to sort this out for about 4 hours now and I've tried every fix Ive found listed on this site.
    ok, here goes
I wanted to get stuff from online music store, looked it up, found that firmware updgrade 2.0.03 was needed for Play-For_sure functionality.
Downloaded it, did all the bits n pieces, shut down everything, unchecked the detector etc etc etc, double clicked the the firmware to install, and it started.
About 2 mins in, the player reboots, and one of those annoying WinXP windows pops up asking what I would like windows to do each time I connect this device (A) use WMP0, (B) use mediamonkey or (C) Take no action. I selected C.
Player shut down, and the message onscreen was player was rebooting........90 mins later still the same thing.
I was loath to disconnect the player or fiddle with it in any way as I know from past expierence, messing with firmware upgrades can be tear jerkers, so I looked around this site before I did anything. On seeing nothing about firmware stalls I did the only thing I could, tried the firmware installation again, but my PC could no longer loacte the player.
I started trying everything listed, recovery mode, format, reload firmware, checking the USB cables on other PC's etc etc etc
My Zen Sleek is now, it seems, completely buggered. There is now no firmware on it, and my PC cannot locate it at all.
    OS: Win Xp
    Player: Zen Sleek 20gb
Firmware: (It was .00.05 then upgrade to 2.0.03)
    Can anything be done?

I had the exact same problem as Drake. I tried to update the firmware, it didn't take, now my Zen Sleek has no firmware on it and the firmware update that I downloaded from Creative tells me that my player is not connected and will not let me install the updated firmware.
While the firmware download (ZenSleekP4S_PCFW_LB_2_0_03.exe) does not recognize my Zen Sleek, but Windows recognizes it, and it shows up as "Zen Sleek" in the device manager.
I installed the first hotfix from the KB article listed above. That worked fine. I tried to install the second hotfix, but Windows said that the 2nd hotfix was already installed on my system.
I then did the registry edit. There are two "CurrentControlSet" entries under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM. I navigated to the USB folder in each and changed the permisions for each.
I then uninstalled the player from the Device Manager and rebooted.
After reboot, Windows recognized the player again and it shows up correctly in the Device Manager.
However, the firmware update still tells me that the player is not connected and will not let me install the firmware.
Help, please.Message Edited by bsteggeman on 07-09-2006 07:39 PM

  • Zen Sleek Photo display wont work

My zen sleek photo wont display anything. I can still play music, assuming i hit the right buttons. Everything lights up, but the display is blank. I've tried resetting it. I've tried to put it into recovery mode. I've even checked the battery.
My last idea was to reload the firmware using the download from the creative site, but it says my device isn't plugged in, which i know it is. My computer says it's plugged in, i can access my music on it, and the sync program it came with even recognizes and can sync with it.

You can give firmware update a try but I'm afraid what coachop said is true. I don't have personal experience with screen replacements but sounds like this is the path where you're heading.

  • Creative Zen Sleek Photo Firmware Download does not recognize my pla

My Creative Zen Sleek Photo recently froze up. After restarting it, the "firmware problem" screen popped up. After reading up on it a bit, I decided to first clean, then reformat, and then reload the firmware. Everything went smoothly until I went to load the firmware back onto my Zen.
For whatever reason a screen pops up that says that my device is not connected to the computer, when it, in fact, is. I have tried several things including uninstalling Windows Media Player and repeatedly cleaning and reformatting in hopes that it would recognize it.
I have had no prior problems with the computer recognizing the device and I have loaded quite a bit of music onto it through this computer. Can anyone please help? Any more ideas? Anything will be helpful and appreciated. Thanks?

HelloHave a look at this thread http://www.anythingbutipod.com/forum...ead.php?t=6328?I had a similar problem with a Zen Sleek Photo and I am sure that this was the thread I used to recover the player when a firmware upgrade failed. Regards?

I have tryed to install the software on my PC from the downloads page ( for tranfering mp3's and CD's to my player) but when it prompts me to plug in my ZEN Sleek it doesn't recognize the device as being there. I get a "Connect Device" for it to search message. I know my USB is fine. ( I have a PSP/Playstation Portable). Am i missing something, perhaps a driver I also I checked to see if the ZEN Sleek is listing in the device manager. It isn't. What do i do Much Thanks, 2W3Message Edited by 2W3 on 05-26-20070:08 PM

Tried various boot sequences but still no luck.  This is extremely frustrating since everything is rev'd up and ready to go...but the OS won't boot.
It appears that everything gets loaded to the HD but the HD will not "boot".  This will happen if I make the HD the 1st, 2nd or 3rd boot device in the sequence.
I've seen some chatter about Corsair XMS and K8T Neo incompatability cretaing boot problems.  How about the BIOS version...any suggestions or ideas?

  • Zen Microphoto Firmware got deleted, Computer wont recognize, NEED HELP!

One day my zen wouldnt boot up, so i went through the maintenence menu and rebooted, cleaned up, and even formatted the hard dri've, but it still wouldnt boot up. I then stupidly went to the reload firmware button. From then on, I have not been able to get the automatic update or the downloaded firmware update to recognize the zen. My computer will recognize it but the update wont. I have scoured the web to try and find an answer to why it wont recognize the player or how to fix it, but to no avail.
If anyone has an idea of what is happening please write me back and let me know. Thank you,Joel

Well got good news!! I got it!!! IT TOTALLY has to do with WMP . But here's the catch. My PC only had WMP 0?but it had upgrades and hotfixes to it. I think somewhere between the original WMP0 and WMP there was a bug. So I plugged it into my husband's computer that had the basic WMP0 and it took like 20 mins. I'm currently installing all my music back on!!?Good luck to everyone!!

  • Zen Sleek photo not recogniz

I had my zen sleek photo working fine for about 3 weeks, then all of a sudden it's not recognized.
I've spent the past 3 hours looking around on the site and messing around, and i've given up hope.
I've reinstalled the software, installed and reinstalled the drivers, rebooted and cleaned up the zen player, tried deleting my USB ports and reinstalling them, tried different ports, tried the permissions and the usb zen connection registry hacks, pretty much every solution i can find.
I have win XP, SP2. I haven't got a hub, i've tried all 6 usb ports on my computer (overkill i know), taken out all other usb connections except for my mouse.
I don't necessarily want to update firmware on the player as most people say that only messes things up and you can't go back, but seeing as it only recognizes the player as an MTP device i doubt I could update anyways.
In the device manager, the zen shows up as a portable device, and there's a little ! by the picture (meaning it's not working properly, obviously). When you expand it, there are clearly no drivers for it as it says the driver info is not available.
When I first plug it in, it recognizes the device and tries to find applicable drivers for it. I've let it search my entire computer before, and it supposedly finds something as the two folders appear with data transferring between the two, but immediately afterwards it stops and says:
"There was an error installing this hardware:
    Zen Sleek Photo
An error occurred during the installation of this device
A service installation section in this INF is invalid."
I assumed this meant my drivers were bad, so I went on a mission and found several different drivers, and installed these, but I guess they didn't work as it still doesn't work.
I downloaded the Zen Sleek Photo XP PlaysForSure Firmware upgrade program, and it says "Your player is not connected, please connect your player"
The Zen charges, so the cable is OK and I haven't done anything to it since the last time it worked.

yep. man mine did the same thing. i emailed the crew here and they said to reset it. w/ the lil reset button. they also said to enter it in recovery mode. i didnt know what that meant. lol so i just reset and tried it. then it werked

  • Zen Sleek wont shut down prope

I love my new zen sleek which i got for xmas, but when i turn it off, it freezes on the 'Shutdown' screen and won't turn off. i then have to resort to using a needle to reset it, which isnt practical at school because that is where i use it mostly.
any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
    thanks.

Don't use a needle to reset it, a needle is sharp and can damage the reset button. Use something like a bent paperclip.
To try and solve the shutdown problem go into recovery mode and run a disk cleanup. Also try upgrading the firmware.
