Visual bug in iCal (10.5.7/8)

I have a repeating event (Mon-Fri, for several months). When I scroll through the months (Months view of course), I see on the very top left box (the previous month's last Sunday) shows many, many copies of the week day repeating event).
This is getting annoying...if I delete any of the week day events from the top left previous month's Sunday box, it removes them from their proper week day location.
Wanted to check here before reporting this as a bug...
Don

George,
Welcome to Apple Discussions.
Leopard stores the iCal data in the Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder.

• Bug in iCal

There is a bug in iCal.
If you schedule a meeting (say friday 9:00) and set an alarm to "on date".
Then you drag-drop the entry to another day (say thursday 14:00).
Look at the alarm settings... they will remain unchanged.
Hence you are likely to miss your re-scheduled thursday meeting because the alarm will trigger on friday morning.
Dismal...

I don't want to put you down put I think you are finding excuses.
A calendar entry is a self contained element. An alarm on that event is part of that element. So when a calendar entry is changed, all information linked to the element are to be reconsidered.
So if the developpers thought like you suggest, they definitely did not think how the average user understand the interface.

• Bug in iCal 4.0

I noticed this bug in iCal 4.0 on OS X 10.6.1. On single day view, if I have two or more appointments at the same time with a duration of 0 minutes, then the two or more appointments will overlap each other and be unreadable.
For example, if 3 appointments all start and end at 10am and they have the subjects "a", "b", and "c", then "a", "b", and "c" will b superimposed on top of each other on the single-day view in ical.

Thanks for letting us know!
We will have a look to fix that in the next release.

• HT5313 How about fixing the bugs in iCal? and Sleep Mode?

The 10.7.5 update sure has a lot of fluff patches. When is Apple going to fix something important, like all the bugs in iCal? And the bugs in Sleep Mode?
Examples:
• iCal events tend to pop up 30+ minutes late all day if I sleep the computer overnight. This has been going on since 10.3.9.
• Network Issues: iChat sessions via Bonjour have to be manually restarted after coming out of sleep.
• Disks mounted over the network dismount during sleep.
• Screen Saver doesn't play well with other apps: I lock the screen when I'm away from my desk. If Firefox starts using all available CPU time while the screen saver is on, screen saver won't exit. This can make it very difficult to get control of the machine.
How about a patch for the above?
I'm a professional software engineer, so spare me the Blame The Customer tactics.

PS. Best Example:
• Last week I almost missed an appointment because iCal decided I wanted to be alerted to this event 9 hours after it happened. ... Maybe you think I typed it into iCal wrong. So what if I did? WHO THE #@$! WANTS AN ALERT *AFTER* AN EVENT HAPPENS? Why is it even an option?

• Stacks weird visual bug

Hi,
I'm running Leopard 10.5.3 on a 1Ghz iMac G4 which came with a GeForce4 MX graphics card. I've been using stacks from the beginning (and loving it) but every time I use it, a weird visual bug is triggered; basically white semi-transparent rectangles appear along the edges. You can find a screenshot of this at http://picasaweb.google.com/luis.beca/StacksBug/photo#5206710255993309346. Any clues as to why this is happening or how to solve it?
I should point out that I have been stuck with this problem from the very beginning, not just the latest Leopard version 10.5.3. I have an Intel MacBook Pro where this is not an issue.
Many thanks in advance
Luís
PS - How can I submit this to Apple?

I think you can thank Apple for this. See this discussion.

• MSI Radeon R9 280X - Visual bug squares

Hi,
Since I got my GPU in February of 2014 I've had multiple visual bugs. Flashing lines in flash video players (e.g. youtube)
and flashing squares in the screen. The flashing squares look something like this:
It can happen anywhere on the screen. It also happens with black squares instead of white.
Some people on the internet say that it can be due to the driver version or the GPU clock frequency. I've tried installing all the drivers I could find on amd.com and the one on msi.com. Both had this problem. I've also played with the GPU clock frequency, but that didn't matter at all.
I feel now as if I should have sent the card back when I got it as I had this problem within the first week. Does anyone know if there is a way to fix this problem?
System specs:
GPU: MSI Radeon R9 280X GAMING 3G
CPU: Intel Core i5 4670K
Memory: 8GB Ram (Crucial Ballistix Tactical)
Motherboard: Asus Z87-K
Current resolution: 2560x1440, 60Hz
OS: Microsoft Windows 8.1 Pro
Looking at the specs it seems that I'm running a resolution which is too high for a DVI connection. MSI card specs shows a maximum of 2048x1536 resolution for the DVI connection. Which seems wierd to me as I'm now running 2560x1440 resolution.
Could the resolution be the problem? And if so can this be fixed in anyway while still connecting to a DVI monitor? (e.g. GPU -->Mini DisplayPort --> convert --> DVI --> monitor)

My PSU: Seasonic G-Serie 550 Watt
The specs say the card only has HDMI 1. Should I try to use the Mini DisplayPort?
HDMI Connectors 1 (version 1.4a)
Max Resolution: 3840x2160 @30 Hz-30bpp
4096x2160 @24 Hz-24bpp
Mini DisplayPort 2 (version 1.2)

• Recurring international event bug in iCal?

I am in Brisbane, Australia (AEST) and have a weekly teleconference with Milwukee, USA (Central Time). The event was setup in Milwaukee for weekly recurrance at 4pm Tuesday. On my iPhone calendar and web-based Exchange client, the time and date are correctly converted to 7am Wednesdays in AEST. However, on iCal on my Mac Book Air (OSX 10.8.5) the time is correctly converted to AEST (7am) but the date/day is incorrect (Tuesday). Multiple participants dial in to this teleconfernece and no other platforms seem to have this problem.
Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix it?

Bump.
Have the same issue. I'm in Asia (Singapore Standard Time). The date/time show correctly in iOS7 on iPhone 5S and iPad. Outlook via web, or BusyCal 2.5.4 do not show this issue, only Calendar Version 7.0 (1835.1) in Mavericks (currently 10.9.1, but same issue in 10.9). Changing the Timezone to US Eastern (the inviter's timezone) only causes the date to move back the correct number of hours, but on the wrong day.

• Bug in iCal and adressbook?

Everytime I close adressbook or iCal and reopen them, they do not fill the screen. The shrink and stay smaller only a view pixels under the menu-bar. It can be reproduced and I'm not that dumb that it's my personal fault I think. Or is it?? No programm installed to change the look nothing that has to do with iCal or adressbook...

Sorry but the problem still exists. Deleted the files while the programs were closed. Then I opened them, resized them to fill the hole screen but the same thing (after I reopened them): The windows are not totally smaller, but they are some pixels (about 15) smaller at the top, which looks ugly because i like them directly under the menu-bar. I don't get it.

• A few iTunes 6 & 5 visual bugs

I also noticed these glitches in iTunes 5, 5.01, and 6, they were not in 4.9 or previous that I can recall.
In the "Get Info" for any file, absolutely no album art shows up in the art section (see link 1) or in the summary tab (see link 2)
Then in the options Tab the ratings stars do not appear, I can change it but I won't know what rating I gave it until I hit OK and it changes the rating in the library. (see link 3)
Yes the windows may look like OSX but I have a visual skin over windows XP in the screen shots.

2 - http://www.natemc.com/temp/itunesglitches/two.gif
3 - http://www.natemc.com/temp/itunesglitches/three.gif

I've had this skin on for quite some time, longer than I've had iTunes on my computer.
There is a theme dll you swap out that allows unsigned windows themes and then you just install whatever skin you want and it will run as if it were just the XP skin instead of requring more ram hogging applications to run in the background.
here is how to use unsigned themes
http://www.uneasysilence.com/how-to-use-unsigned-themes-on-windows/
I don't remember where I got the theme from though.

• Removing children from List causes visual bug

Hello,
I'm new to Flex so I apologize if this is basic and trivial.
I have a list that I'm using some databinding with some
search results. After the initial search I need to clear out all of
the children in the list before running the next search otherwise
it just gets tacked onto the bottom. When I try running removeChild
for all of the children nodes in the list it removes the items, but
then does something to the visual display and leaves a giant gray
box. I know that the new data is being loaded in as the scrollbar
changes size to indicate that there are elements, but it's just all
gray.
Is there some sort of a re-draw function that needs to take
place or is there an error with my method of clearing the
contents?

removeChild removes a DisplayObject from it's container.
You seem to want to clean up the result list before you fetch
new results.
I assume you have the following:
[Bindable]
private var myList:ArrayCollection ;
<mx:List dataProvider="{myList}" .../>
Before you fetch your next set of results, clear myList.
myList.removeAll() or whatever is appropiate.
It is always best practice to manipulate the dataprovider for
the visual
controls. DataBinding will update the control as
appropriate.

• Transparent urxvt visual bug

Urxvt has a bug that occurs when transparency is enabled and a tiling window manager (like xmonad) is used. There is a gap between the bottom of the text and the bottom of the window that is not drawn correctly when the window size is not a multiple of the font size. There is a fix posted on the rxvt-unicode mailing list that has not (to my knowledge) made it into the code yet. I can confirm that this fix works, and that it's not in the rxvt-unicode in testing. I'd like to see the patch added to the Arch package until such time as the patch is applied upstream because it's a really irritating bug.
The patch is located here: http://lists.schmorp.de/pipermail/rxvt- … 00552.html
Thanks in advance.
Now I just need to fix midnight commander....

Please submit a bug report. Several devs don't read the forum regularly.

• Bug in iCal weekly view

The weekly view in the default Calendar app on my ipad shows events ONE DAY BEHIND the correct date of the event. For example if I create an "all day" event for Friday 23rd July it will appear correctly on the 23rd in ALL VIEWS EXCEPT THE WEEKLY VIEW where it displays on the 22nd? This is happening with all entries. I have tried deleting & recreating the event and have tried re-boots etc., but the problem remains. Can someone help?

You can disable the context highlighting if you find that distracting. In this case it should make noticing that something is wrong more easily though. A link starts with a quote and ends with a quote and everything between the two is considered the link. If the second quote is omitted then it is the choice of the developer on how to deal with it. Either not to interpret the text in between (you may even have forgotten to HTML escape some characters "e; <) or try to catch up in case you forgot a closing quote. Both can have their disadvantages in case of an error from you.

• Layer Mask/Alpha Channel. Visual bug when moving or transforming

Open test file.
Add solid color Adjustment Layer.
Paint a big "X" on its Layer Mask.
Option(alt)+click on the mask icon to see its Alpha Channel.
Now select Move tool and move mask around.
Alpha channel does not display properly when moved or transformed.

Right Jeanne, should have realized.
A good workaround for this, if you want to see the mask as you move or transform, is to just hit the backslash key to see the rubylith of the alpha channel. That displays correctly.

• Crashing after a visual bug

http://img517.imageshack.us/my.php?image=weirdbugosxleopardwx6.jpg
It showed that, a few minutes later after I made a screenshot it crashes.
Then I reboot, am typing a message and bam crash again.
If someone tells me where it is I can copy/paste the reports sent to apple to show what crashed. It wasn't something I recognized and it was probably a kernel process.

Unfortunately that is a crash report with a [@ EMPTY] signature and does not provide crash data, so it is not possible to tell something about the cause of the crash.
This crash report does show a rather high memory usage that might contribute:

• ICal Daily view bug

Hi, I'm having a strange bug in iCal, I hope you can help me.
In the day view, the date and texts on the left side are too big and cropped.
Increasing and decreasing size only affects the right side panel.
I deleted the app via terminal, reinstalled it with the Lion DVD I burnt, and made a combo update. The bug is still here.
Deleted the preferences. No success.
Here is what I see : http://dl.dropbox.com/u/4894405/WEBPOSTS/iCal_bug.png
Thanks for your help.
Cedric

Greetings,
Its likely you have a settings issue in your user account rather than this being a bug within the iCal application itself.
To be sure you can create a new user account on your computer and test: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.7/en/mtusr001.html
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Language & Text > Formats > Region. Region should be set to the country of your choice. Do not have it set to "Custom" as this can have unexpected results in the iCal window.
If that does not resolve the issue:
1. First make an iCal backup: Click on each calendar on the left hand side of iCal one at a time highlighting it's name and then going to File Export > Export and saving the resulting calendar file to a logical location for safekeeping.
2. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
3. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
--- NOTE: To get to "Home > Library" in Lion:
4. Launch iCal and test.
If the issue persists:
1. Go to iCal > Quit iCal
2. Remove the following to the trash and restart your computer:
Home > Library > Caches > com.apple.ical
Home > Library > Calendars > Calendar Cache, Cache, Cache 1, 2, 3, etc. (Do not remove Sync Cache or Theme Cache if present)
Home > Library > Preferences > com.apple.ical (There may be more than one of these. Remove them all.)
--- NOTE: Removing these files may remove any shared (CalDAV) calendars you may have access to. You will have to re-add those calendars to iCal > Preferences > Accounts.
3. Launch iCal and test.
Hope that helps!
