Visual Composer first steps

Hello,
We are working on NW04s SPS9
Up until today I used Web Dynpro for all my development tasks.
I would like to start working with Visual Composer but when I go to the download center I see many files to download. Can someone please:
1. Direct me to the installation files I need for my version and explain me what each one means?
2. Direct me to initial documents such as HowTo's and tutorials for beginners?

I think Visual Composer is part of EP since NW04s SP8. In the SDN you find a lot of how-to's.

  • Error while making iview with visual composer

    I am trying to make an iview usign visual composer.
    In the document that i have for making the iview , it says that when you have the bapi list you need to drag and drop the bapi to the empty iview pane . When i do so it gives me the following error ...
    "Portal request failed
    (com/sap/mdi/ObjectFactory)"
    What do i do ?

    I tried to do so research on the problem and it is being talked about in a thread on the forum . They ask to refer to the sap note 765461 to resolve the mdi reference . In the note they ask you to refer the installation guide of the installed version of EP . I have EP 6.0 SP2 . The installation guide says the following ...
    7.1.2 Adding References
    To enable some of the features in the portal environment, add references to reference file.
    To add a reference:
    1. With a text editor, open the file:
    Windows: <installation drive>:\usr\sap\<SAP J2EE instance name>\j2ee\<instance
    number>\cluster\state\services\file\work\managers\reference.txt
    Unix: /usr/sap/<SAP J2EE instance name>/j2ee/j2ee_<instance number>/
    cluster/state/services/file/work/managers/reference.txt
    2. Look for the line:
    reference service:eisconnector library:jco
    3. After the line mentioned in previous step, add the following in a new line:

    I did the same ....but now my server is not starting . By chance i didn't keep a bakup of the file which they asked me to delete .
    Now what do i do ?
    I think i am stuck up badly here .
    EVERYBODY IN THE FORUM PLEASE HELP
    I am not sure how a thing that is mentioned in the installation guide cannot work !

    Deepak,
    It is not that bad. By deleting you are recreating that managers.bin file during startup based on the reference.txt and library.txt (recollecting from my memory). This could also happen if there is a typo or some special characters in the reference.txt
    I don't know what J2EE patch you are at, but after PL22 you can actually add the reference using the "add reference" command from the administrator console.
    could you please send the error you are getting? To revert back the simplest thing is removing the line you have added and restart.

    I am using J2EE engine 6.20 SP2 .I tried to get the server started by the following two methods
    1) I removed my entry in the reference.txt file and then start the engine by running go.bat from the required path .
    2) I got the original file managers.bin which i deleted and then placed in the required path and restarted the server
    Both the options didn't work .
    I am not getting any error when i restart the server. When i run the batch file go.bat it starts the console and shows me the various managers loading . After it shows the Clustermanager loading , it stops and gets stuck .
    Not sure what should i do now .Is reinstallation the only solution ?
    Is there a solution from the administrator console ?

    No you don't need to re-install. Try the following.
    1. First start the state controller by runing go.bat in the following directory.
    /usr/sap/xxx/j2ee/cluster/state/go.bat
    You get the message waiting for cluster manager.
    2. start the server in a different window
    /usr/sap/xxx/j2ee/cluster/server/go.bat
    You get the message waiting for cluster manager
    3. Start the dispatcher
    /usr/sap/xxx/j2ee/cluster/dispatcher/go.bat
    Please let me the know the error messages.

    People ,
       I tried to do what venkat suggested . Infact I had mailed him the snapshot of the screen when i start the state controller as he suggested . For other people in the forum this is what is happening . When i start the state controller it displays an error and then the window closes immediately . I have managed the screen shots somehow and in those i could find two messeges in the begining and the end which could be useful for debugging the problem ...they are
    1) [DBMS]: ID3004:DB file header do not match exception .
    com.inqmy.services.dbms.server.interfaces.DatabaseException: Error while opening database ...
    2) ID000544: Error statrting service dbms. DBMS service not started properly due to: Errro while opening database
    [Framework -> criticalShutdown] Service dbms startup error !
    After the state controller window closes i run the server in a different window and i get a message waiting for the cluster manager as suggested . Now i start the dispatcher and i get the same messege there as well ie waiting for the cluster manager .
    What is to be done now . Is this information sufficient to suggest me something ? Please let me know if you require any other information .

    Hi all...i dont much about Visual Composer 7.0...As we are not have installed VC 7.0 in our comapny...Before starting work in VC 7.0 i have to install it first..So,i am searching about, how to install VC 7.0 on 2004s platform i.e for EP 7.0..
    Can anybody plz tell me what are the prerequisites of VC 7.0 Installation as well as how to install VC 7.0..

    Hi,
    There is no need of Special steps to install VC.
    VC will come by default with EP Usage type.
    if your Portal URL is : http://<domain:port>/irj then its corresponding VC will be http://<domain:port>/VC (Capital letters).
    and if you are gettingpermissions problme then assaign the VC role to the user with which you had loged in to the portal i  useradministration.

  • Navigate to another iView in Visual Composer

    Sorry for the reposting
    I am trying to configure navigation from one iView to another. I have going through many tutorials but to no avail.
    The result of the steps below should be that the ”source” iView is shown. When the submit button is clicked the value in the source_field should show up in the target iView.
    However nothing happens when you click the submit button.
    Please Help.
    Here are my steps.
    In Visual Composer
    Create a new model.
    Create a new package. (Drill into package)
    Create an iView named “source”. (Drill into the iView)
    Add an Form view: “Form 1”.
    Add a Start connector and link it to the in port of the form.
    Right click on the form and select Configure Element
    Add a new Input Field: “source_field”
    Add a new pushbutton: “submit”
    Open the properties of the “submit” button
    è Open Action Tab
    è Select custom action
    è Set custom action: “TO_TARGET”
    è Click Close
    Click and drag from out port of the form and select Signal Out
    In the Select Output dialog
    Select “source_field”
    Right click the newly created Signal Out and select Configure Element
    Change the name to ”Port”
    Click on the link from the form to the Signal Out icon
    Change the Event Name to “TO_SOURCE”
    You should see in the lower right panel
    Input field Assigned field
    source_field @source_field
    Navigate back up to the package
    Create a new iView named “target”
    Drill into the iView
    Add a Signal In connector. Configure the name to “Port”
    Add an input field : source_field
    Add a new Form view : “Form1”
    Link from the Signal In to the in port of the form.
    Right click on the form and select Configure Element
    A field “source_field” will have been automatically created. Set the type of the field to Input Field.
    Click and Drag from the out port of the form and choose End Point. Do not select a field for output.
    Save the Model and deploy.
    The result should be that the ”source” iView is shown and when the submit button is clicked the value in the source_field should show up in the target iView.
    However nothing happens when you click the submit button.

    Hi Rick,
    I reconstructed your model.
    First I think, you have made one mistake (perhaps you just mixed it up in your description): The event name from the form to the Signal Out icon should be "TARGET_TO" instead of "SOURCE_TO" resp. the same name that you define on the custom action tab in the properties window of the push button.
    However I could not solve your problem as described, but I put the two iViews in one Page (instead of a package) and then it did well.

  • Guide on how to use a self programmed BAPI in Visual Composer

    Hi all,
    I am absolutely new to modelling with the Visual Composer, so probably this is a fairly easy question for most of you, but it's driving ME nuts.
    I have a BAPI in my ERP6 system. This BAPI was programmed by some other guy (not working here anymore) and it is used to output some time management data for a user. It expects a personnel number as input and is then supposed to return the amount of time an employee worked that day.
    Now what I need/want to do is this:
    a user logs on to the portal with his user-id and I want to create an iView on the first page that displays his/her remaining time of work for that day.
    All I have is the user-id, from which I need to query the personnel number from infotype105 and then use this number as input for the BAPI - And I want to do this with the Visual Composer!
    Can someone point me to some good documentation how to get started with using a BAPI in Visual Composer?
    I have a sesond problem right now, that has something to do with necessary rights for system connection or system alias - not sure:
    Right now, I can't see any BAPI in my backend-system, because I seem to be mssing the necessary rights to use the system connection I created - although group everyone has read access to the connection an I setup SSO between portal and ERP system.
    So maybe solme of you gurus might be able to point me to some good documentation on these topics, as I'm kinda stuck here

    Hi,
    Yes its very much necessary to do the user mapping untill unless if you did not do the single sign on Trust .
    It is necessary to get the data from the Back end i.e your Ssytem.
    Steps :
    Go to Useradministartion->find your VC user (using which user you are logging to the VC)->CLICK ON MODIFY->Select usermapping Tab->select the System alias ->give the credentials of the System (i.e Back end) then Save.
    After that Check the Connection Test for the Syetm you connected .
    Steps:
    System Administartion->Syste configuration->Visual Composer-> fRight Click on your Backend Sytem->select Connection test->do the connecton test .
    if the results are failed means the usermapping is wrong.

    2     Installation

    Use
    For each system you connect the portal to, you must create an entry for the system which stores all the relevant system connectivity information such as System ID, Server, Port, etc.  Before creating portal entries for all your target systems, you should first create a folder to store these in so that you can find them easily later.
    This task creates the folder structure on the Portal to store the system settings for SAP R/3, and can be used to create additional folders for SAP BW and mySAP CRM..
    Prerequisites
    Log on to the Portal as the Administrator.
    Procedure
    You must first create the portal content folder, Systems, to store the systems.
    1.     Navigate to the Portal Content Directory

    u2022     SAP_R/3_Dedicated: This system has only one application server and the portal connects to it directly. For more information, see Connecting to an SAP R/3 Dedicated System.
    u2022     SAP_R/3_LoadBalancing: The message server is used in this case for load balancing and the portal connects to the message sever. For more information, see Connecting to an SAP R/3 Load Balancing System.
    2.2.1     Connecting to an SAP R/3 Dedicated System
    Use
    Run the System Landscape Wizard to create a system. The resulting object connects directly to the application server that is defined.
    Prerequisites

    Procedure
    1.     From the portal top-level navigation, choose System Administration System Configuration  System Landscape.
    2.     Right-click on the name of the SAP System for which you want to set up the ITS connection and choose Open  Object.
    3.     The Property Editor will open automatically.
    4.     In Property Catalog, use the dropdown to select ITS.
    5.     Set your SAP system properties according to the details in the table below.

    ITS Description     Description of the ITS     for example, AID     
    ITS Host Name     Hostname of the ITS     for example, hspal14:8002     The first section of the name is the host, the second portion of the name after the colon, is the port

    The mySAP CRM system runs Business Service Page (BSP) technology, which requires the Web Application Server (WAS) connection properties to be set up for BSP application.  mySAP CRM reports originate from the mySAP BW system. 
    The mySAP BW runs the SAP Business Explorer, which requires the WAS connection properties to be set up for SAP Business Explorer application. 
    In this activity, you define WAS systems that will be connected to the Enterprise Portal. You also specify the necessary attributes and web access details through the System Landscape Wizard.  
    2.2.4.1     Connecting to WAS System u2013 BSP
    Use
    Run the System Landscape Wizard to create a system. The resulting object connects directly to the application it defines.
    Prerequisites
    Log on to the Portal as the Administrator.
    Procedure
    1.     From the portal top-level navigation, choose System Administration System Configuration.
    2.     From the Detailed Navigation iView of the navigation panel, choose System.
    3.     Navigate to Portal Content  My Folder  Systems  SAP R3 and choose New System.
    This launches the System Landscape Wizard
    4.     In Step 1: Template Selection, choose Dedicated Application Server for R/3 System or R3 System with Load Balancing and then choose Next.
    5.     Make the required entries for the system you want to connect to the Enterprise Portal.
    Field name     Description     User action and values     Note
    System Name          for example, SAP_R3     This is a display name, the name that appears in the Portal Catalog, and in any form, dialog box, and window that displays
    a list of systems.

    2.2.4.2     Connecting to WAS System u2013 BEx
    Technically, connecting the BW system is similar to connecting the SAP R/3 System. The only difference is the path setting of the Business Explorer Service (BEx) within the system.
    Use
    Run the System Landscape Wizard to create a BW system. The resulting object connects directly to the application it defines.
    Prerequisites
    Log on to the Portal as the Administrator.
    Procedure
    1.     From the portal top-level navigation, choose System Administration System Configuration.
    2.     From the Detailed Navigation iView of the navigation panel, choose System Landscape.
    3.     Navigate to Portal Content  My Folder  Systems  SAP R3 and choose New System.
    This launches the System Landscape Wizard
    4.     In Step 1: Template Selection, choose SAP_R3_Dedicated or SAP_R3_LoadBalancing and then choose Next.
    5.     Make the required entries for the system you want to connect to the Enterprise Portal.

    10.     In Summary Details, review the options you selected for the new page. To make changes, choose Back until you return to the appropriate screen. 
    11.     Choose Open for editing when the wizard completes. The Property Editor will open automatically when you choose Finish.
    12.     Select Web Application Server (WAS) in the Property Category dropdown list.
    13.     Set your SAP system properties according to the details in the table below.

  • Error when testing a Guided Procedure that use a Visual Composer UI

    Hello!
    Trying to develop my first Guided Procedure in SAP NW CE 7.1 SR3.
    I follow instructions that I earlier have used with CE 7.1 SP1 (in TechEd07), assuming no major changes from SP1 to SR3...
    I have defined a Callable Object that is based on a Visual Composer UI.
    The Visual Composer UI itself works fine when I test it in Visual Composer but when I try to test the Callable Object I get the following error message:
    "Could not load execution container: Did not find active instance for component com.sap.caf.eu.gp.ui.co.wd4vc.exec.COExecWD4VC in running application."
    When I click on the error message I get a lot of details of the underlying Java exception:
    "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Cannot find view element with ID 9NEfbfuapOdP8O4KnmM19Q in application com.sap.caf.eu.gp.dt.workset.AppWorkset with namespace null"
    (skipped all details...)
    Have I missed some step (development or configuration) that is new in CE 7.1 SR3 compared to CE 7.1 SP1?
    I have tried to read through the available on-line help but can't find anything that seems to differ...
    Are there any examples/tutorials available for CE 7.1 SP3?

    I'm unfortunately having problem with finding the choice "Add Guided Procedure Information" in the options menu in VC.
    I have looked in the menu "Tools --> Options" but failed to find this choice.
    Is this choice maybe changed in SAP NW CE 7.1 SR3?
    Regarding running the VC component as a stand-alone application I can launch the component from VC after deployment and it works fine both as HTML and Flex (I really like the Flex - version :-)!
    But if you mean something else with running it stand alone please direct me to some doc-url so I can learn how to do that!

  • Data Service System In Visual Composer  7.1

    Hello,Experts:
    Recently ,i am focusing on the mirgration function of SAP NetWeaver,and visual composer is among them .
    In netweaver 2004s enterpise portal ,i have done the system connection between Enterpise Portal and ECC and BW ,and the system alias can be accessed in visual composer .Both the bapi and infocube can be got by the system alias .The Visual Composer Application based on the backend data service is ok .
    However ,i have registry the ecc system in CE Portal and its version is SAP Composte Environment SP5 .I can check out the system registry is ok . However ,when i open the Visual Composer on the CE Portal ,i couldnt find the system alias that i have registried .It is blank .Plus,we havent install SLD on the CE Java Server ,and solution manager is put forward to take the place of sld .
    Can anybody help me out ? The problem has any relationship with the Enterpise Service Repository ?

    Hi Eleanor,
    first of all if you want to use SAP BW in Visual Composer for CE then you have to install Enhancement Package 1. SAP BW resp. queries, planning functions and so on is only supported with VC 7.11 (EhP1 for CE). I also recommend you to set up the SLD in your CE system resp. that it works as a "slave SLD" when you have an existing SLD in your landscape. There are wizards available in the NetWeaver Administrator.
    Go to http://<host>:<port>/nwa to login into NetWeaver Administrator.
    Navigate to Configuraton --> Scenario --> Configuration Wizard and choose the Initial setup of functional unit SLD.
    If you want to have access to BAPIs there are two ways to access the system. You can define a portal system object to access the ECC or you can define in NWA a RFC connection to access ECC.

  • Eventing in Visual Composer 7.1 Enhancement Package 1

    We are running Enhancment Package 1 on 7.1 and the release note says that client side event is supported.  However I build 2 iViews one with Data Entry text iput and and a signal out and the the sencond one with a signal in and a text field.  I cannot get what I type in to the first iView to pass to the second.  Is there a simple example that illustrates that eventing is working in this release.

    I used the non WEB Dynpro event tested with the following results.
    For an iView that I had build with Visual Composer 7.0 and converted using the CE 7.1.1 converter tool I now see the following. In this case the evnt had the prefix urn: on it
    10:20:12 : urn:com.osisoft.pct.RtPM, AdhocTags, %3CParamsversion%3D%223%22%3E%3CRowParamname%3D%22%5C%5Cgsrtwebparts%5Ccdt158%22%2F%3E%3C%2FParams%3E, undefined
    This same iView on Visual Composer 7.0 delivered the following message using the tool in EP 7.0
    10:52:46 : urn:com.osisoft.pct.RtPM, AdhocTags, <Params><param name="Paramname" value="%5C%5Cgsrtwebparts%5Ccdt158"/></Params>, undefined
    For an iView that I created new with Visual Composer 7.1.1 and tried to use the same tool the tool did not catch the event and nothing was displayed in the log when the event name had urn: on it.
    I rebuilt and removed the urn: and now the tool picked up the event with the following log.
    11:12:29 : urn:com.osisoft.pct.RtPM, AdhocTags, %3CParamsversion%3D%223%22%3E%3CRowParamname%3D%22%5C%5Cgsrtwebparts%5Ccdt158%22%2F%3E%3C%2FParams%3E, undefined
    The XML has changed and the use of urn: is inconsistent between versions.
    Thanks for pointing me to this tool.
    The Web Dynpro version you suggest did not show anything so that is why I tried the non-WebDynpro.

  • Visual Composer 7.0-Change the Y-axis from decimal scale value to integer

    Hi Experts,
    I'm new in Visual Composer 7.0, my report is work fine, but when I want to show the data in bar-chart, the values on y-axis are 0.0, 0.4.0.8,1.2,1.6.2.0 but i want like 1,2,3,4.
    Normally, this happen when values on y-axis less than 5, if more than 5, it will turn to 1,2,3,4. (which i expected)
    Inside my function module, I set all the data as integer already..
    I read through some suggestions in the forum, they suggest using 'Fixed range' and set the interval size, but need to include min & max value. But, inside my program, min value & max value has to be automatically adjusted, ie i can not set the values for those.
    Please suggest solution for me, need it urgently..

    Steps involed for calling RFC/BAPI from VC
    1. Choose Model->Select Data Services.
    (Alternatively, click the Data button in the task panel toolbar.)
    2. In the Portal field at the right end of the main toolbar, enter the URL of the portal from
    which you can access the back-end system used by the iView.
    For example, you could enter: http://<yourportal>:50000/..
    3. Click the traffic light icon to the right of the Portal field. The portal Welcome screen
    appears.
    4. Log on to the portal as a user that exists in the connected back-end system, or which is
    mapped to a user of that system. Click OK.
    Once a connection to the portal is established, a list of system aliases defined in the
    portal system landscape appears in the System drop-down
    list.
    From the System drop-down list, choose the SAP system that contains the function module.
    6. Under Search SAP System, click the Search tab and in the Name field, enter the search string: <RFC/BAPI name>. Then click Search (at the bottom).
    5. A list of function modules matching the search string is displayed.
    7. Drag the function module/bapi from the Data task panel into the
    workspace: The data service is added to your model.
    8. Periodically save your work. To do so, choose File->Save Model.
    Finally test the iview in VC.
    In the workspace, drag your mouse from the Input port of the data service, <inputform> and dragn your mouse from the outut port from the data service <tabelview and etc..>

  • How to connect two iviews in Visual Composer 2004s?

    Hi,
       I am trying a sample application (Bank Details) in Visual Composer(Netweaver 2004s) but getting a warning as "Event EVT1 is declared but cannot be raised". Actually I want to show the GetList values in the first iview & GetDetil values in the second iview. I have done everything for the two iviews, but not able to connect the two iviews.I tried to drag from Signal Out of the first iview to Signal In of the second iview, but not able to connect them.
    Hope someone can suggest a solution.

    1. Unfortunately one of my requirements is that I can only get data from queries and not from Web Services or other sources, so no WS calling would be allowed in my deployed I-View, but thanks anyway for your suggestion.
    2. You are right, I was not clear enough in my first post. Let's say I have 3 rows and 12 columns, what I want is the following:
    ROW3 = ROW1 / ROW2
    obviously for each column. Do you have an idea about how it could be done??

  • How to use Webservice in Visual composer

    Hi,
    We have developed a RFC in R3 and converted it into Webservice. We want to use this in the Visual composer. Can anyone suggest some steps how to use this RFC in Visual composer?
    I tried the option in Tools--> Define webservice System and gave the following parameters:
    new system name = WDP (system name which we use)
    new system alias = WDP_VC (system alias which we created)
    webservice url = URL of the webservice which we have created and got in WSDL
    when we create it gives an error the URL is incorrect.
    Kindly let me know if these values are correct and suggest the steps to be followed. Also, if there are any prerequiste steps to be done before using this webservice.

    Hi,
    The option you described refers to defining a new web service system in the portal system landscape. So if you already have it defined - you don't have to define it again.
    As for the actual error you're getting, check that:
    1. The url is indeed accessible, and points to a wsdl. You can do this by simply inserting it in the browser's address bar and making sure you get a wsdl file in the response.
    2. Make sure that you don't need to authenticate, i.e. provide a user and password. Maybe you just forgot to provide these arguments.
    Lastly, keep in mind that this 'Define Web Service System' option is just a shortcut. Generally, you would define a web service system in the portal, like any other system, using the web service connector.
