Visual studio lightswitch takes very long time (hangs for 20 sec) when changing entities properties in screen design

hi, I have lightswitch project that is growing up every day. Now it has 200 database table and about 450 default screens. When I first started the lightswitch project with few tables
(about 50 tables), it responses very fast. Gradually when I created the screens, the response takes 10 seconds for any changes I made in the screens or on the tables (*.lsml). Now, it takes 20 seconds (-+2 sec) to be able to do the next change!. For example,
changing the group name, entity input type, width, table summary property ,arrange fields in the groups, change display name (which I change the most),,etc. Just imaging that I can change 3 things on a minute! I am using lightswitch with VB coding , but no
programing codes (yet), I uses only HTML screens, no extensions, connected with SQL express 2012 (but I think that has nothing to do with the slowness since the problem is on the screens design time), I have created the project from scratch three times, with
visual studio 2013 ultimate update 3, update 4, and now with Update 5 CTP 1 !! Yet, the same result. Strange that the freezing time is always about 20 seconds!! Any idea why this is happening? Any resolution?! Regards, Hasan

Hi Michael
again i appreciate your answer ...
i was trying to implement your suggested workaround of my problem, unfortunately, it won't work with me !  i cannot split the
project to smaller modules because of:
all screens are connected to each other's with buttons and clicks (view selected)
i have changed all the "display names" of tables fields (translation). i would have problem in translation whenever i
need to add tables or fields in the database, then i need to repeat that for all modules. i know that i can use other translation method, but i have already translated thousands of words !
i have spent 2 months in 2013 to learn MVC, but i did not like it. it is somehow complex for me. i am a volunteer developer (actually i
am network designer ).
i may lose the authentication , as i need to log-in to each module separately.
is there any root solution to this problem ; the VS Lightswitch (or IDE) slowness when there
is a lot of screens? maybe in VS2015?
i had great hopes for the lightswitch, and still it is the only IDE that i can use for the "Charity
ERP" project.
regards,
Hasan

    OK. If you believe that.
When the disk is starting to die it can be bad for a moment and then be good for a while. If there was no problem while you were checking it of course it shows up good.
I tell you those are the signs of a disk that is about to die.

Crystal report with prompts takes very long time to open in infoview BOXI3.1?
Is there any way to increase the performance.

    Ramsudhakar,
There are several items that could cause these slow down problems. Without knowing more about the way your environment is setup, I could cause more problems, by giving out performance tips. You would need to be more specific in your post.
    What we know. BOXI3.1
    What we don't know.

Hi, original poster here. I did not realize this would generate more discussion so I never checked back. I still had my warranty, so I took it to the store and got it repaired. The original problem I had was a screen with this icon flashing when I attempted to boot it up:
When I took it to the store, they told me that my computer was unable to communicate with the hard drive. I had this same problem three times in two months where this screen reappeared. Each time I went back to the store and they said the cause was different, but they were all hardware issues that physically made it impossible to communicate with the hard drive. After the third time, they simply replaced my laptop and I haven't had the same problem.
So in short: The reason you can't reinstall or move anything when you encounter this screen appears to be because nothing can communicate with the hard drive in the first place. You can't reach the disk or anything on it. So I don't believe it's possible to do anything besides take it to a physical store and have it fixed.

  • Retrieving free/busy information from the server takes very long time

Hello, we are running Outlook 2010 32-bit in Windows 7 64.bit, and  have encountered a strange problem, whenever we want to book
a resource (i.e. conference room) from Scheduling assistant, it takes very long time, sometimes even more than a minute to see the utilization of the room, it being stuck at "Updating schedule information. Retrieving free/busy information from the server"
The interesting thing is that most newly deployed PCs exhibits this same behavior, while older machines with basically the same setup gets the availability information almost immediately.
It is unclear whether this is a server setting or desktop issue, as all new Windows 7/Outlook machines that are deployed from the WDS-server exhibits the same slow behavior.
Please advise any troubleshooting steps to investigate the very slow retrieval lookup of free/busy information from the Exchange server.

    Hi,
Does this issue occur on OWA?
If no, it means the issue is mainly related to the Outlook client.

  • Application build takes very long time

Recently building applications has started taking a very long time. Before, similar applications took 30 seconds or less for a build, but currently 5-10 minutes is not uncommon.
The perplexing part is how the time is distributed. The builder will spend 3-5 minutes each on the first two "processing" tasks it undertakes, namely:
    Processing NI_AALPro.lvlib...
    Processing NI_Gmath.lvlib...
Which amount for about 1% of the progress bar. Once it finished processing these two libraries, the final 99% finishes in about 3 seconds.
Has anyone run into this issue before? I suspect I've misplaced files for the two libraries causing the hangup and the builder is having to go searching for them, but I don't know how to remedy this situation. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I find that when I include DAQmx in my build it can take up to 30 minutes to build an Installer.  I have not seen this with builds that dont include DAQmx though.

  • ODI Planning metadata load takes very long time

    Hi,
I am using ODI for Hyperion Planning metadata load.
We are facing performance issues, as the process is taking a very long time.
The process uses "LKM File to SQL" and "IKM SQL to Hyperion Planning"
The number of rows to process in the file is around 70000. The file is generated from DRM. The ODI integration process takes around 2 hours to process and load the file to Planning. Even if we add 1 new row to the file and everything else remains same in the file, the process takes that long.
So, the whole process takes around 3 hours to load to Planning for all dimensions.
I tried increasing the fetch rows to 200 in source but there is no significant increase in performance. The Heap size is set to maximum of 285 MB in odiparams.bat.
How can the performance be improved?
Can I use different LKM or change any other setting?
    Thanks,
    RS

    Hi John,
In my current implementation, the dimension hierarchies are maintained in DRM.
So, business directly makes changes in DRM and exports the hierarchies in a text file.
I agree that loading 70000 records is odd on regular basis, but it makes it easier for business to retain control of their hierarchies and maintainance is easy in DRM.
On bulk loading to DB table and loading to Planning, I have 2 questions:
    1. Do you think that "LKM SQL to SQL" [Oracle to Planning] will have significant improvement in performance over "LKM File to SQL" [File to Planning], as we are still using "Sunopsis Memory engine" as staging area?
    2. I checked your blog, there you have suggested using "Sunopsis memory engine" for "LKM SQL to SQL".
Is it mandatory to use "Sunopsis emory engine" as staging area, can we use any other user defined staging area [Oracle tables]?
    Cheers,
    RS

  • Query Designer writeing formula takes very long time

    Experts,
When i try to write a formula. The query designer is taking very long time to navigate.
One formula is taking 20 mins to write.
    1. I have upgraded my laptop memory to 2 GB of Ram
    2. I am on 7.10 SP4 Patch 1. Had the same issue with the previous versions.
    Please suggest a resolution.
The QD has tested my patence. I am sure no body wants to create a query for 2 days. There has to be a problem somewhere causing this.
    Thank you.

    Vinod,
Save the query and then exit BW sessions, also restart your system.
It might be a problem with main memory of your laptop or BW server load.
But 20mins is too long for any kind of definition in query designer.
Please check these things, perhaps it helps.
    Thanks,

  • Finder Takes Very Long Time to Open Folders?

I have really yet to understand why Apple changed things, but it seems that when a third party application opens a dialog box to pick a file, it is making a call to the Apple Finder.  Since Mavericks, however, this process takes an inordinately long time.  The "deeper" the directory the longer Finder takes to display.  In some cases, I have waited over a minute for the Finder to open the dialog just so I can select a file to edit or modify in Word or Photoshop, for instance.
This was NOT the case on any previous OSX version, so it is a MAVERICKS issue only.
Has anyone experienced this, and has anyone found a solution, other than reformatting and blowing out your folders to a flatter configuration?
I have switched to Path Finder 6.5 (best file browser out there!!!)  to handle all other file browsing needs, but there is no way to make Path Finder the default for ALL apps that open the dialog it seems.
Finder remains one of the worst applications that Apple has, and in fact, I'm pretty digusted with the quality of product coming out of Apple recently.  For an application that is used a LOT, they've crippled it and make it worse than it ever has been, which is pretty hard to do!

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.
