Visual Studio shows report as Hex
Hi,
I have uninstalled cystal reports X11 and trying to run crystal reports basic for visual studio 2008 on one machine, and when I click on a report instead of bring up the report in designer mode it is showing it as hex. I have tried reinstalling CR with no avail.
Is there a commandline to repair this ?
Removed the following
Crystal Reports Basic for Visual Studio 2008
Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 Proffessional Edition
Microsoft .Net Compact Framework 2.0 SP2
Microsoft .Net Compact Framework 3.5
Microsoft Framework 3.5
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual studio 2008 .Net Framework
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual studio 2008 .Net Headers and Footers
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual studio 2008 .Net SDK Ref
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual studio 2008 .Net Tools
Microsoft Windows SDK for Visual studio 2008 .Net Win32 Tools
Then reinstalling.
Still no good,
CR V11.5 as left over references everywhere, removed files from the disk and registry and retried the above.
Still no good.
Visual studio should be looking for "Crystal Report Editor" 10.5 but I believe it can't find it.
I have seen other people posting this question, is there anything else I can try ?

Visual Studio - Crystal Report: Abnormal Behavior from Crystal Report with Charts
Hi,
I'm using Crystal Report 13 under visual studio 2012 where i build a report that contain pie chart and bar Chart in two different sections in the report header the report get the data from a DataTable. When i display the report in Crystal Report Viewer it is fine and as expected but when printing the report i get the first chart overriding the second chart: here the right report as displayed in CRV:
And here the wrong print out where the pie chart is duplicate and override the bar chart:
I inserted both charts in two sections in Report header and they get the data from the same DataTable. the pie chart: On change of: Discipline show values SumTotals and the Bar Chart On Change of Disciplie show values SumTotals and SumCompleted. I need your help to prevent Pie chart form overriding the bar chart by duplicating itself
Thanks in advance.Hi Hussein
I moved your post to the SAP Crystal Reports, version for Visual Studio
SCN Space.
First I'd like to make sure you are using Service Pack 8 for CRVS:
SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio: Updates & Runtime Downloads
(Note SP 9 should be releasing in a few days - if yo want to wait).
Next, what happens if as a test, you export the report to an rpt file format and then view it in the designer without refreshing?
Is this a web or a win app?

Visual Studio 2012 + Report Viewer 2012 Word Render Margin Problem
Hi all,
I am developing a asp.net web application /w visual studio 2012. I have created some reports with report viwer, and I would like to export those reports to pdf and word format. The pdf output is same as I expected, but the word output is missing
top and bottom margin, it leads we cannot print the header and footer correctly in word, also the repeat header on each page property didn't work too.
Is anyone has the solution for this issue?
Thanks,
hkHello,
Welcome to MSDN forum.
Your issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses
the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
and Visual Studio Editor.
Because you are working with ASP.NET Web Application, I suggest that you can consult your issue on ASP.NET forum:

Crystal report Visual studio 2003 - report load failed. please help!!
Post Author: swapneel_d14
CA Forum: .NET
Hello,
Some Background -
Few months back my company has purchased a project which is developed in VS 2003 and on Framework 1.1 from a third party. This project is installed on user's machine (obviously with Framework 1.1).
Glitch is here u2013 VS2003
But now I need to make some amendments in this project, so I installed VS 2003 Enterprise Edition (Setup downloaded from MSDN) and when I open up this project u2013I couldnu2019t open some reports in design mode.
I get below errors u2013
Custom Tool Error : "Code generator 'ReportCodeGenerator' failed. Exception stack = CrystalDecisions.CrystalREports.Engine.LoadSAveReportException.Load Report Failed.
Then I tried to open same report in VS 2005 on Framework 2.0, I can open this report in design mode easily with no errors. In fact I installed Crystal report 9 on my machine and able to open this report in design mode.
Please could you help me, how to resolve this problem. How to refer Crystal 9 version references in VS 2003.
Many Thanks.
I believe this Crystal Reports managed assemblies are version 9.2.3300.
Regards,
SwapneelTyping the terms "pdf export hyperlink crystal" in the search box at the top right corner of this page comes up with the following KB (5th hit):
[Hyperlinks to files do not work when exported to Portable Document Format (PDF)|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes_boj/sdn_oss_boj_bi/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/scn_bosap/notes%7B6163636573733d36393736354636443646363436353344333933393338323636393736354637333631373036453646373436353733354636453735364436323635373233443330333033303331333233313336333633363337%7D.do].
"Messed" up report export to RTF does not tell me much either. A link to a screenshot will be great.
Also, what CR Service Pack are you on?

Crystal Reports Visual Studio 2010 Report Viewer Not Rendering
Hello,
I was able to get Crystal Reports deployed in a web application in VS 2008 OK, but now I am having trouble with CR and VS 2010. For some reason the data and images for the report are being displayed, but the report viewer controls and background are not. I am not getting red Xs, the viewer is just not there. I have tried changing my references, I have installed the CR run time, and all permissions are correct. I am trying to get this up and running on the local machine. Has anyone dealt with this problem before?
thanks.See if [this|Report Viewer not displaying on deployment server; thread helps.

C# & Visual Studio Community
Searching the forum w/queries for where to post is nauseating. Why doesn't anything for C# of Visual Studio show up? I have no idea where to ask except to post here in 'Where in the forum ...' trying to get pointed in the right direction.
Not to go negative, but this is so snafu for MS. Extremely frequent where a huge subject is absolutely not found where you would think it is. Current example: in these forums. Am I supposed to ask under the 'blogs' section??
My question pertains to an error in Visual Studio Community when programming a Windows Forms application in C#. If this is the right place to ask, after solving many other errors by using the internet, I have one remaining error.
My problem specifies that I create a separate class for PresentationGUI. My other classes are Housing, SingleFamily, MultiUnit and HousingAPP. The error, in PresentationGUI, is 'The name InitializeComponent does not exist in the current context.' Yes, I
can find numerous "hits" online re: that error but they all seem to relate to programming problems way over my head, with applications I have not heard of.
Can anyone inform me where in the Technet forums I should post? Or is this the place?
Thank you in advance,
MacHello,

Hello
We're trying to use a Model-First with Entity Framework in Visual Studio, targeting an Oracle XE 11g installation.
No matter from what angle we're approaching the issue, we always end up with an "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" in Visual Studio:
First way:
- Add new ADO.NET Entity Framework Model to a .NET Framework 4.5 project
- Empty model
- Add some entities and associations
- Set Database Generation Workflow to "Generate Oracle Via T4 (TPT).xaml"
- Set DDL Generation Template to "SSDLToOracle.tt"
- Generate Database From Model
- VS asks for DB connection ==> Click "New Connection"
- Enter the connection properties to the Oracle XE database. "Test Connection" tells me the connection is okay.
- Click OK. Visual Studio shows the following error message:
(here's the image if it's not visible: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/35614983/vs2012_oracle_ef_error.png)
We also tried to generate the model in VS2010 and then manually transform it to an EF5 / VS2012 model. At the "Generate Database from Model" step, the same error appeared.
We also tried to generate the model from database (Database-First approach). Same error.
My configuration:
- Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
- Installed Oracle client: ODTwithODAC1120320_32bit.zip, so the version is 11.2.0.3.20
- Visual Studio 2012 Update 3 (11.0.60610.01)
Thanks for any hints!
EDIT: I just read that ODP.NET doesn't seem to support Entity Framework 5, so I tried a new project with Entity Framework 4.1, but I get the same errors.
EDIT 2: On a 32-bit Windows 7 virtual machine, everything works fine. Seems the problem is only there on my 64-bit Windows 7 machine.Sorry for the delay on this one. Let me know if you are still seeing this and I will see if we can get more diagnostic info somehow.
That error is basically an exception fault. It means a bug or a misconfiguration of Oracle Developer Tools. Can you try to reinstall ODT and see if you notice any unusual errors during install.. and see if a reinstall fixes the problem? -
Libgit2 Error - Trying to checkout/clone a git repository with Visual Studio Tools for Git
I'm trying to clone a branch from our git repository using Visual Studio Tools for Git. I'm doing the following:
1. We have a local server that stores all our repositories and they are tracked using GIT+Stash
2. I create a subbranch B1 from master in repository X using stash
3. Stash will give me a URL in the form http://user@stash:7990/src/x/repository.git
4. I go to Visual Studio (where I already installed Visual Studio Tools for Git) and follow the instructions to clone this branch to my local machine using the procedure as described in: Open and Clone a Git team project http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh850445.aspx#remote_3rd_party_connect_clone
5. Visual studio shows the following error: An error occurred. Detailed message: An error was raised by libgit2. Category = Zlib (Error).
Failed to inflate packfile
What is libgit2? Is there anything I should change in my settings or paths? The only workaround I have found for this issue is to clone my branch through Source Tree (third party tool) and then open visual studio, then any other functionality will be fine
(e.g. commits, push, sync, pull etc, all this I can do directly from Visual Studio)... but why can't I clone from Visual Studio?
Notes:
- We're not using TFS (i.e. we only use Git and I'm effectively trying to do the step found in this URL: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh850445.aspx#remote_3rd_party_connect_clone)
- We use Atlassian Stash (installed in our servers) to create the repositories and branches
- I'm using Visual Studio 2012
DavidHi David,
I am sorry that I can't reproduce your issue on my machine. I can't set the shared folder path (\\DEVELOPMENT) as local path, but I can set D:\folder which maps to the
\\DEVELOPMENT path as the local path.
Maybe you can submit one feedback on the Microsoft Connect site here above your issue:

Hi,
We have built a SSRS report which contains a chart and a tablix. The chart labels (Male and Female) is displayed correctly in the Visual Studio Preview but in the Report Manager it displays as Female and Female.
These are the following things which we have tried to fix it:
Deleted and redeployed the report
Restarted the Report Server
Checked the report caching. There is no cache for this report.
We use SQL Server 2012 and Visual Studio 2010.
Any help is very much appreciated.
Thanks,
AJHi AJ,
Per my understanding that you have two label "Male and Female" which display correctly in the Visual Studio 2010 but not correct in the Report Manager, right?
As you have mentioned that you have checked the report caching, please make sure you have set the "Do not cache temporary copies of this report" in report manager and also check to delete the rdl.data cache file under the project if you have
which path like:
\Visual Studio 2008\Projects\Report Project
If possible, please try to create an new report the same as this one to have a double check.
If you still have any problem, please feel free to ask.

Visual Studio 2005/2008 and Crystal Reports versions/upgrade questions.
I've tried posting this question on the MSDN forums and gotten no response.
I've downloaded and installed VS 2008 Beta 2. The versions on the Crystal Reports files included are 10.5.0.1806
I'm currently using VS 2005, with the included Crystal Reports. The versions on those files are 10.2.0.xxxx. I've created an desktop app (in VB) which stores it's data in a database and uses the CR 10 runtime merge modules to generate a report.
I was considering upgrading the Crystal Reports version to XI. I would like to allow customers to modify my delivered report with their own licensed copy of CR XI. I am not providing any functionality within my app to create or modify the delivered .rpt or use it outside my application.
Questions:
Do I need to update the runtime files to CR XI to support rpt files modified with CR XI? Current runtime files are being delivered with the CR 10 merge module.
I see a Crystal Reports for Visual Studio upgrade to CR XI.
Can I update the merge modules to CR XI and still use the CR for VS2005 for development?
Does it make any sense to update CR for VS 2005? Or to get the full CR XI Developer edition? My usage of CR functionality is very limited.
Would there be any benefit to waiting for the release of VS 2008? How does that change the scenario?
How does Crystal Reports for Visual Studio fit in with the Crystal Reports Lifecycle? It's not mentioned on Business Objects End of Life Dates page . Crystal 10 has a Patch EOL of 31-Dec-07. Does this apply to CR for VS 2005? Where does 10.5 fit in?
My main concern is allowing customers with CR XI to change the format of my delivered .rpt to run with my app. Adding their company name, logo, etc. My testing show a CR XI report still works with my current app. But, going forward, what should I deliver and what do I need to use to continue development? To use Reports designed in XI, you need to use XI or higher runtime, running them in older versions may work, but you may encounter unforeseen issues doing so.
If you are to use VS2005 for development you need to use XI Release 2 (11.5) runtime.
If you are going to use VS2008 for development you need to use Crystal Reports 2008 with Service Pack 0.
The support end of life for versions of Crystal Reports bundled with Visual Studio are linked to what Microsoft's lifecycle for the product is. Generally if there is a workaround for the issue that is simple enough, there will not be a patch created.
The changes you are expecting the customer to do can be accomplished with our RAS SDK which is available without using enterprise starting with Crystal Reports XIR2 SP2. -
Visual Studio 2013 to open a Sage 50 Crystal Report (which is in 2008)
Is it possible to open a report using the latest runtimes and visual studio components (v13)?
I am trying to view a crystal report done in 2008 on a web site I'm creating. When I add the controls (CrystalReportViewer and CrystalReportSource with path to report) and run the page it asks me for credentials. I know I can programatically set them but I wanted to try to see if it worked at first. I plugged in the credentials and the popup for credentials kept coming back. It would never show the report.
I then tried programatically setting the login credentials and still would show the credentials popup.
Is this because of a version issue? Any ideas or suggestions? I only have visual studio 2013 and I'm hoping it's still possible to view the report on a web site.
Thanks in advance,
Miguel MartorellThansk for the quick reply.
I am able to access the database using the odbc connections even with a query tool used outside of their server. I have the ODBC set up and what not. I can edit the report using crystal report from outside the server as well. I am just pointing to the .rpt file so I thought it would be a CR version or component issue.
I will ask over there as well hoping for an answer that will help me solve this.
Thanks again,
Miguel Martorell -
Hello,
1) I am suddenly getting an error message ‘Load Report failed’ in a production server (where the VS2003 application is deployed) when the Crystal Report is executed. This has happened maybe because of the Windows/Crystal Report Updates!
I am able to see the same report perfectly fine in the development computer using VS 2003.
I am using the 9.1 version which is part of the Visual Studio 2003.
The event logs show 'Either the keycode library is not registered or it cannot be loaded ...EventID=10029'. See attached screen shot.
Please help?
2) Since I was getting a registration suggestion window for using Crystal Reports, I registered twice using different email address and it said that it will send me the KeyCode for the Crystal report but after successful registration I never got any keycode but just an email acknowledging the Registration.
I believe the KeyCode is required to use it in the server to execute/run a report.
Can SAP representative email the keycode to my gmail account?
My product key is:
Please help to resolve both my problems
Thanks in advance,
Sanjay ChudasamaIf I memory servers, you have to open the Crystal_Regwiz2003.msm in the .NET deployment project. One of the properties of the msm was Keycode (or similar). You entered the keycode here. To find your keycode; in VS2003 IDE, go to the Help | About screen. You will see one of the installed components as Crystal Reports and the keycode will be on the right of that. Copy the keycode from here, paste in the above.

Crystal report for visual studio 2005 dblogin problem
Dear Sir,
I am using Visual Studio 2005 and crystal reports for visual studio 2005 and sql server 2000.
When I am running the project from my pc where it was developed and a local server with server authentication, report is opening but from client machine there is a new screen come before opening the report asking for login issue. my reports has subreports
also.
I am using dsn file to connect with server from crystal reports where dsn file contains as follows:
[ODBC]
DRIVER=SQL Server
UID=sa
PWD=sa
DATABASE=HRISDB
WSID=S-AGD-PAY01\HRSERVER
APP=Microsoft Data Access Components
SERVER=S-AGD-PAY01\HRSERVER
so it is dynamic bcoz i need change server name sometimes. my question is when same report want show user from their pc then below screen appears:
database login
server Name: C:\program files\HRIS\HRISDB.dsn
Databse: HRISDB
user id:
PassworD:
Integrated Security: it is checked and a finish button.
(i am sorry bcoz screenshort is not attaching so I write above what in the diagloag box for you)
then i need to uncheck the use integrated security and click finish then the reports come. THis is very annoying for my clients.
Please help me how can I overcome it.
It is mentionable that I didn't use any dblogin method in my code to like setdbloginforReport(). I think there is no problem bcoz the report show correctly. Just want to know how to overcome this screen. You know, this forum is for controls, apis, components for the user interface Windows Forms.
Unlucky enough, Microsoft does not support Crystal reports anymore for many years.
