Um ... Your profile says you are using OS10.4. On the assumption you are actually using Leopard:
The easiest way to invoke Quick Look is to select the file and hit the spacebar.
The Quick Look toolbar icon looks like an eye. Right click on the toolbar at the top of any Finder Window and choose Customize Toolbar from the resulting menu. You should see a Quick Look button in the drop down pane. Drag it to where you want it on the toolbar and click Done.

  • Previewing videos in Quick Look isn't the same in Snow Leopard.

Does previewing videos on Quick Look in Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard no longer allows you to use the two finger gesture to move forward or backwards in the video, or is it just me?

I can not do that either, then again, I never tried it in Leopard so... hope that helps

  • Quick Tip of the Week: Take a Quick Look at the files in Trash

I ran this Quick Tip which was emailed to me today, but noticed that the Quick Look icon demonstrated isn't on my Toolbar, instead there's something called a Path icon, and Finder>View>Customise Toolbar is greyed out, so I do not appear to be able to change it. Quick Look works when I press the space bar, so it is on my iMac.
Does anybody know why Quick Look isn't on the Toolbar, and how to change the Path icon for Quick Look?

To open a Finder window, click a clear space on your Desktop. You'll see the word Finder top left in your screen. You can press command Command N on your keyboard or use your mouse and from the Menu Bar (top of screen) click File/New Finder Window.
Migration Assistant will transfer all your files and important settings for you.
To see exactly which Mac OS version you are running, click the Apple logo top left in your screen, then click, "About This Mac". The version number will be displayed in that pane.

  • Quick Look copies attachments to Mail Downloads folder!

Holy maloly, I just discovered why my MacBook Pro was slowly losing disk space! Every time I use Quick Look to check an attachment in Mail, a copy of the attachment is placed in the Mail Downloads folder of my user Library. My writing work entails quickly looking at lots of very large attachments and e-mailing estimates to clients. Quick Look has been a great time saver for this. Nice being able to stay in Mail and not have to open Word to examine the job. But I don't need all these additional copies taking up space on my hard drive. As far as I know, Mail is the only program that does this.
Is there any way of telling Quick Look to NOT make copies of Mail attachments?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Attachments to messages are actually stored in the mailbox along with the message text. It is when an attachment must be opened with another application, such as a Word document with Word, that the attachment is also placed in the Mail Downloads folder. There it can be used and edited by the application used to open it, and from there can be returned as edited to the sender or to others.
There is no reason files must permanently stay, but if you edit or otherwise alter files that have been attached, then you must elect some place to keep them for your own use.
You will note that in the Mail Preferences/General there is also a selection regarding when to remove files from Downloads folder if not edited. Any file that is not edited need not remain in the Downloads folder since it already exists in the mailbox with the message it came attached to.
Image files, since they can be opened directly in the Mail window, by Mail, do not go into the Downloads folder, but if any were opened from the message, with say, Photoshop, then that image file would also be sent to the Downloads, temporarily.

  • Some Pages documents do not show up in Quick Look properly

After upgrading to Yosemite, when hitting the Space button on some Pages docs to see them in Quick Look, all I get is a thumbnail of the doc next to it's title, last modification and size. This is not the issue with all Pages docs, but only with some. Other Pages docs will open in Quick Look just fine and I can scroll and read through them perfectly.
I completely don't understand why some Pages documents won't open in Quick Look, and some others do. I'm running on a 13" Retina Macbook Pro.

  • Quick look, videos and relaunching Finder

After updating to Snow Leopard, I noticed one item right away: My scroll wheel no longer shuttled through the videos in quick look like it did before. Is there a fix, or reason for this?
Also, and more recently, I find myself having to relaunch the Finder if I use the arrow keys to change video files with the Quick Look window open.
And Finally, believe it or not, Quick Look shows .avi files better and faster than .mov and .mp4 (or other QT files). What's up with that.
    Any ideas? Thanks.
iMac, 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.5Gig Ram. And everyhing is up to date.

    Khurt,
Do all your other keyboard shortcuts work? I only ask because there are some settings you can change that effect all keyboard shortcuts. But heck just in case what I would do is open up System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse -> goto the Keyboard (tab) first and select Modifier Keys, and click Restore Defaults then goto the Keyboard Shortcuts (tab) Hit Restore Defaults here as well.
Now Try again if that doesn't work I won't you to remove the com.apple.QuickLookDaemon.plist you will find it in Macintosh HD -> Users -> YOUR USER -> Library -> Preferences, If you would prefer you can just move it to your desktop but believe me it is ok to delete it, it will be regenerated on restart, then after you have removed it I want you to not doing anything else but restart your computer.
Test to see if works, and come back with your results.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • Quick Look icon doesn't appear in Finder window?

I've just installed Leopard, and have just read in the manual about Quick Look. Quick Look shows up in the drop-down File menu if I highlight a file or document, but it doesn't show up where it's supposed to in the Finder window, as an eyeball icon. I'm sure there's some obvious fix: can anyone explain what I have to do to get the icon to show up in Finder?
    Much obliged.
    jk

the easiest way to quicklook a file is select the file and hit the space bar. but if you want to call it from the toolbar the icon should be tere too. if it isn't, go to view menu->customize toolbar and drag the "eye" icon to the toolbar.

  • AVI=no Audio QT, BUT audio in QUICK LOOK - Perian INSTALLED!

    New to avi movies.
Installed PERIAN after having no sound, still no sound in QT. (7.4.1)
Updated to latest QT= still no audio.
If I use QUICK LOOK, sound is fine. Sort of weird, quick look is like the PC in that it plays and opens anything whereas some apple apps by themselves do not.
    Advice appreciated. Leopard 10.5.2
Frustrating when QT says its missing a component only to go to a website where it doesn't say "which" plug in is missing - I could promise that there was a day (way back when), when the mac would tell you what was missing.
    Advice please.
    Thank you.

    Repair permissions & restart.

  • Document size in quick look

    Hi Community,
I installed a new Mac running Snow Leopard and now I have a small document size in quick look. I can change the size by drag and drop the lower right corner but a) the next document is in the same small size and b) when I reopen a document in quick look I adjusted the size before, it will be displayed also in the small size again. In other words the quick look doesn't remember the custom size setting.
Is there anywhere in the system a way to change the settings of quick look?
    Thx & Bye Tom

Yes, I have the same issue, text is tiny on my large screen when previewing word or other text documents. The implementation of Quicklook for text could be improved. For images it obviously works great but for text, I would define a "quick look" as a quick scan of the contents, not just the layout, because its text. When you are editing HTML or looking at CVs a lot, you end up needing to read a little to see what the item actually is, as a lot of layouts are the same for these type of documents.

While in Finder, select the file (click on its icon once) then press the Spacebar.

  • Quick Look doesn't work properly

I can get folders to show in Quick Look by highlighting them and pressing the space bar or eye icon but then...a new window with a large icon of the folder appears and the only controls at the bottom are to open in full screen or close the window.
Have looked in Preferences and trashed the Quick Look daemon file but no change.
I've not tried to use Quick Look before (been running Leopard for a couple of months now) and am trying it now as a result of reading an item about it in the Mac Tips column so I don't know if it's a new problem or if it has always been dysfunctional.
Any suggestions for solving this would be gratefully received as, on reading what it can do, it looks like a very useful tool.
    Thanks
    Gordon

Quick Look doesn't work that way, unfortunately, there is a third party solution available that produces the behaviour you want. The basic functionality of Quick Look is to enable fast access to files and not folders...

  • [Snow Leopard] Midis don't work in Quick Look or Chrome

I'm on a MBP using Snow Lepoard, and for whatever reason I can't listen to midis in Quick Look or Chrome. The Quicktime Default soundfont works fine with GarageBand, and throwing a midi into GarageBand works pretty well. and I've looked everywhere for an answer, but I can't seem to find one anywhere. When I try to play a midi using quick look (which used to work), I might hear a crackling and then nothing happens. The bar spins like it's playing, but there's nothing. Any help?
I'm curious if it might have something to do with realplayer?

Try choosing an older DNG compatibility version (e.g., 4.6) in the preferences.  And try unchecking the "Embed Fast Load Data" option.
(The Finder and Preview don't currently support DNG 1.3 specification, and may be mistaking the fast load data as raw image data.)

  • Mail quick look docx links no longer work

After upgrading the OS on my 2-year-old MacBook Pro to Yosemite (10.10) and also the new Mail update (8.0), I have lost a small, but very useful (to me) functionality. When someone sends me a .docx attachment in my email, I usually press the spacebar for quick look. Then, if there are links in the document, I can click on them, Safari opens an goes to the linked webpage. Now after the upgrades, I press the spacebar for quick look, and when hovering the pointer over a link the pointer changes as expected to the "hand" for clicking links, but when clicked nothing happens. Safari doesn't open, no webpage comes up. It's as if I never clicked anything.

Have your tried resetting your iPad?
Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the
Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • Pages/Numbers 4.3 documents won't show Quick Look in Finder anymore?

After being dissatisfied with the features and presentation of Pages and Numbers 5.0, I removed both apps from my Mac Mini—running Mavericks—and went back to using Pages/Numbers 4.3. However, I noticed that Finder no longer provided a Quick Look of either type of document (it just shows the generic Pages/Numbers 4.3 icon instead of content), even though they will open without a problem in the 4.3 apps. A few days later, I decided to downgrade to Mountain Lion—due to Mavericks performance issues—figuring it would fix the Quick Look issue, but it still persists. All other documents—images, video, PDFS, etc. Quick Look just fine.
Any suggestions on how to get back Quick Look for my Pages/Numbers documents?

It sounds like they are not Pages '09 files, they are files you have saved in Pages 5.2.
You have 2 versions of Pages on your Mac.
Pages 5.2 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5.2 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open files from later versions of Pages 5.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened in a newer version of Pages is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed 110 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

  • Apple mail - Quick look crash

When i open an attachment in Apple Mail 7.2  with the Quick look function. (Cmd+Y) and click the 'Open with ......' button Mail crashes.
I tried different default applications; Adobe Reader, Preview with Pdf attachments and Photoshop, Preview with jpg-attachments.
I created a new user and set up my mail account, tried to open attachments with the same result.
    Repair permissions didn't help either.
    Hopefully someone knows a solution.
    Thanks.

Same for me. I noticed this already when I installed Lion early 2012. Then I went back to Snow Leopard. Now I have just installed Maverick and it's exactly the same.
Thus, the issue is old and I assume Apple must be aware of it.
