Vivitar "Vivicam 2755" digital camera does not mount to desktop

My mother recently acquired a digital camera. She acquired it from a second-hand store, which did not include an interface cable or software. The manual (and the USB port on the camera) indicates that a male-male USB cable is necessary for photos to be copied to the hard drive.
I was not successful in locating such a cable at any local electronics store (I assume such a cable is now out-of-date). I purchased one from a seller on eBay. The brand is "e circuit electronics".
Upon powering up the camera with the cable connected to it and the computer, the following message appeared:
"Software needed for the USB device "USB Interface Controller TEST2.0" is not available. Would you like to look for the software on the Internet?"
I clicked "Yes". After an approximate two-minute wait, another message appeared stating:
"Software Update is not able to connect to the Internet. Please check your configuration and try again."
I queried this discussions forum for assistance in locating software for this camera, or to correct "Software Update"'s issue with connecting to the Internet, but was unsuccessful. The discussion can be located here:
Yesterday, by pure luck while continuing my search via Google, one of the results was a German web site. Through Google translation, I was able to find software that alleviated the message that appeared after connecting the camera with the computer. That piece of software is the Vivicam V2655 (most likely a slightly older version than what I need), located here:
[http://64.233.179.104/translatec?hl=en&u=http://www.treiberupdate.de/treiber-download/z-dltreiber/download_trei ber_9991007.php%3Fload%3D157665%26extern%3D1%26vendor%3DVivatar%26sys%3DMAC&prev=/searc h%3Fq%3DV2755%2BMac%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DG]
Upon restart, I expected a new icon to appear on the desktop as well, but that did not occur.
Is there an application that will reveal such an icon (with the action of a folder) that will allow me to copy the photos in the folder, from the camera to the hard drive? I assumed Drive Setup would be able to do so, but I was wrong.

Your easiest & cheapest way to transfer the camera pictures is to buy (about $10 - $20) a USB memory card reader. Just plug your camera's memory card into it & copy the pic files to your Mac. Quicker & easier than interfacing the camera for pic transfer. Note - After you transfer the pics, be sure to drag the memory card icon to the trash before you remove the card from the reader.

  • Blank SD card does not mount on desktop

I bought a Sandisk 1.0 GB card and put it in my Sandisk reader ( which takes just about everything). I want to move some pictures from iPhoto onto the card to use with one of those picture frame slide show I just got. The card does not show up on the desktop. I am lost!

    Hi again,
If it's a new card, it's probably good. Smtr is right, format the card in a camera, that might do the trick.

  • External hard drive asks for password and does not mount on desktop

    Hello all,
I bought a portable FireWire external hard drive to connect to my iMac G4. When connecting via FireWire, a message window appears telling me that the external disk is password protected and prompts me to type a password. Neither typing my administrator password nor activating the checkbox "Temporarily remove protection" and clicking the Unlock button is successfull: the hard drive does not appear on the desktop but it is listed in the System Profiler under Fire Wire Bus. I tried the external drive on an iMac G5 where it works without any problem. So what shall I do? Does anybody know an issue to this? I will be glad for every answer.

Have you written any data to the external drive? If not, perhaps you could add some data.
    Are you using filevault?
You could reformat it in disk utilities.
    Here is the path...
    Macintosh-HD -> Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility
It may be a problem with accessing the drive from different users, I could not recreate the problem with different users on my machine. I have only one machine with firewire.

  • IPod recently does not mount to desktop, intermitten problem

My iPod dos not want to mount to desktop on my G5. This is something of an intermittent problem. I plug into firewire port, iPod comesalive, shows main screen. Nothing happens. After a while iPod goes to sleep and shows chargin icon.
This is pretty intermittent, but seems to be getting worse as time goes on. I began to think there was something physically wrong with the cabel, port etc. until I realized it had to be getting a signal to be charging.
    Any good ideas?

Interestingly enough, it mounted fine when using a USB cable. Now I wonder if the problem is in the firewire cable of the firewire port.

  • HD does not mount on Desktop

I have a friend who have an external USB HD which works well under XP on his PC.
When I connect the HD on my Pb G4 17" 1.67Ghz it does not appear on my desktop (OSX 10.4.10). I even don't see this HD under Disk utility.
    Why?
    Ben

I mean, does your external hookup via FireWire or USB?
    Well assuming the drive in the enclosure is physically OK, perhaps your FireWire bus is not working (most Mac users have FW as they are bootable);
Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that didn't work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
If that still didn't get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good! Also, here is Apple doc.#88338 on getting FireWire to work. Here's another Fw Faq.

  • External Drive does not mount on desktop

    Hi,
I did a Leopard upgrade and most everything went smoothly. But when I boot, Leopard pops up a window telling me that a disk I inserted is unreadable (it took me a time or two to realize it WAS referring to my USB 2.0 external hard drive).
It gives me the option to ignore, initialize or eject. Thus my hard drive won't mount on my desktop. It DOES show up in Disk Utility, however, so maybe there is hope.
So what are my options? Am I looking at burning DVDs all day so I can re-initialize or reformat this drive for Leopard?
I appreciate any help, and I did a lot of searching on this topic, so I'm aware that there may not be any solutions as of yet.
    Many Thanks, Frank B.

Hi Andre, I can't remember except to say that it was mounting fine with tiger and I was able to copy files to it for backup purposes.
I just hooked it up to a PC and windows tells me the drive is not formatted. That's not a good sign, and this was stupid: I think I had the drive hooked up to my Mac Pro during the upgrade.
Idiotic, granted. But this was an upgrade, not a full install and I maybe was trusting in Apple's ability not to do extraneous stuff during an install like windows does. Oh well...
I appreciate any further ideas. Many Thanks, Frank.

  • External Firewire drive does not mount on desktop now.

    Greetings everyone.
G5 dual, 4.6GB ram, OSX 10.4.10, external firewire drive, formerly worked fine, now is invisible.
Not the drive. New purchase, worked fine until a restart. Not the cable. Power is getting from the G5 to the firewire drive. Not the port. I also have a firewire card instlaled so I have three ports to connect it to (and two on the FW drive). No combination works. Not the computer, the FW drive also fails to appear on an iBook. Not the OS. I did a clean install to make sure.
I'm not a newbie. I know what I'm doing. Until now! DiskWarrior, TechTool Pro, Drive Genius and Apple's Disk Utility cannot see the drive.
The FW drive is a Powerbook internal HD inserted into a case, purchased seperately.
At my wits' end. Can anyone help please.

I am suddenly having this EXACT problem. I have two Firelite firewire drives (one 60G and one 80G) that are suddenly refusing to mount on my older dual 1.25GHz G4 tower. They are also suddenly refusing to mount on my non-intel iMac. They will both mount painlessly on my new Intel MacBook Pro, but that's not much use, since the point of the firewire drives is to transfer files between these computers. I'm updating all of them to 10.4.10 to see if that's the issue...

  • CD does not mount on desktop and is not recognised by OSIRIX since moved over to Mavericks

Dicomm CD not recognised in Mavericks on desktop or by Osirix

System Preferences > CDs & DVDs > When you insert a blank CD > choose one
Same for DVD, assuming this is all the same for Leopard as for Tiger and you're talking about blank discs.

  • 10.5.5 update Startup disc not mount to desktop

Since updating to 10.5.5 my startup disc (Main) does not mount on desktop or appear in finder.
Disc utility says all is normal. In fact the volume appears in sysprefs as startup volume.
I tried deleting com.apple.finder plist to no avail.
    Automatic login is disabled.
    Any other suggestions?
What about DiskWarrior or other utilities?
    TIA, John

check finder preferences general and sidebar. make sure that hard drives are set to show up in the sidebar and on the desktop. if that doesn't help, it might be the invisibility bug. check out this link

UPGRADED 10.4.11 ON MACBOOK PRO INTEL TO 10.5.1 (FAMILY PACK VERSION), UPDATES TO 10.5.8 WILL NOT SAVE DUE TO, "DIGITAL SIGNATURE DOES NOT MATCH". ANY IDEAS? CAN I UPGRADE TO 10.6.1 WITHOUT SAME ISSUE.

Well, not sure if having the disk in a firewire case or over a network would have made a difference.
The solution of making a disk image as in article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2664 was what worked for me.
After, mounting the disk image the Migration Assistant completed without errors. So far everything seems to be working like it did on 10.4.11.

  • Digital Camera Won't Mount

Hello, I have a Canon Powershot SD630 digital camera. Whenever I connect my camera to my computer via USB, iPhoto opens up normally and I can download the pictures to my computer fine. Although the camera will not mount on my desktop in order to see the contents of the SD memory card. Can anybody help me?

Another option would be to invest in an inexpensive card reader. If you put your camera's card into the reader, iPhoto will still open, but the card will mount on your desktop, too. I also use a Canon camera, so I know this works. HTH.

  • My camera does not work on my ipod touch 4th gen. it just goes to a black screen i have done everything from resetting and rebooting... help :(

I fell down the stairs the other day and busted my other ipod to the gamewerks near my house. the guy said he couldnt fix that ipod so he gave me a new one.. a better one a 32GB, the broken one was 8GB. but he told me the only bad thing is that the camera does not work and he doesnt know why... he just couldnt get it to workkk... any ideas on whats wrong?

    Try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing is lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
If you still have the problem that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order

Take the iPhone to an Apple store genius bar for testing, and if it is defective and under warranty they will replace.  Since you say iPhone 4, was this a used or refurbished iPhone?
