Vixia HV30

My Vixia HV30 sometimes plays back at near double speed. How can I fix this?

Hi dpfoto!
Thank you for posting.
During normal playback of the video, if the FF or REW buttons are held down without realizing it, fast playback is enabled.  To stop this, simply press the PLAY/PAUSE button again.

  • Canon  Vixia HV30 capture issue on CS6 (Mac OSX)

This might be (hopefully) something in setup, but under Mac OSX Lion (10.7.4) / Premiere CS6, i am unable to capture video from my Canon Vixia HV30 - it's either i get a monstruous noise or simply get a 'capture device offline' message.
No one ever had a similar problem even withanother cam here? I posted weeks ago but never got any reply.
Am using the same cam under Windows with Premiere CS4 and never faced such an issue.
Matter of some sort of CODEC ?  Does not seem to require any specific driver for Mac based on Canon website.
    Any suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Rob

    Solved... (Almost!)
Someone pointed out that Canon has a software (they said there was no driver for Mac OS X so I had stopped looking...) But if it may help others, there is a ''CameraWindow'' for Mac OS X 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8  available.
As soon as I installed it, I could capture both from Adobe Premiere CS6 and iMovie.
One problem remaining though : the noise (feedback-like) that gets out from... the system's sound card ! (when capture is ongoing). I have to shut down the volume completely.  Never had this issue under Windows, need to figure out why this happens now.
Jeff thanks again for your assistance, even though the solution was somewhere else.
If anyone has a clue for the noise issue ... please let me know

  • I have a Canon Vixia HV30 camera and can't get Final Cut Pro x to recognize it. Any suggestions?

How can I get Final Cut ProX to recognize my Canon Vixia HV30 camera?

Does your Mac have a FW 800 port? If it does, use a 4 pin to 9 pin connection. If you have only Thunderbolt, use a FW>Tb adaptor. Either way, your Mac should see the camera. If it does, so will FCP.

  • Optimal export from Canon Vixia HV30 via Final Cut Express for Blip.tv

I am looking to optimize the export of my videos from Final Cut Express (4.0.1). I shoot HD Widescreen on a Canon Vixia HV30. I've been having problems getting good quality in a smallish package.
For some reason, the videos come off the camera at the odd ratio of 496 x 279. This means I have to export them that size, but the final product ends up being huge. Literally, the screen is larger than the computer screen, and I have to view it on half size. I feel I could get more bang for my buck if these videos could be exported smaller initially.
Here are my settings for export (as Quicktime Movie with Quicktime conversion):
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: High
    Key frame rate: 24
    Encoding: Multi-pass
The only tweak I make is to set the kbits/sec to between 3000 and 3500, which gets me a decent looking video that's about two minutes long and between 40 and 70MB.
If I try to tweak the ratio or the format, the picture gets squeezed or the quality drops significantly. I've also been running into the problem of skipping playback on Blip.tv, which recently switched to a new version of Flash.
Any help on how to shrink the video and keep the quality?
    Regards,
    Philip

Export to where? Where are you trying to get to? Export QuickTime Movie is the original converted FCE media file.

  • Canon Vixia HV30 Capture Problems

I am trying to capture with my Canon HV 30 camera with Adobe Premiere Elements 7.0
Here are the steps of my unsuccessful captures.
    1. Get media
    2. HDV Camcorder
    3. Capture source: Canon HV30 camera appears in box
    4. I can control the playback functions of the camcorder in elementsI(FF,RW)
    5. When I click play, camera plays tape and timeline displays correct tape time.  I see no video in the playback window.
    6. When I click capture, camera plays but no video is seen in playback window.  Only an image with chinese text.
    7. When I stop capture, playback window loses image with chinese text and an image of my video is seen.
    8. When I attempt to open captured video file, it does not play and properties indicate a file with 1 kb.
I am using a Toshiba Satellite a355-s6925 laptop for transfer.

    Please help very frustrated user,
    Thank you,
    Frank

Premiere Elements isn't cleared for Vista 64. It often works, in automatic 32-bit compatibility mode, but occasional driver issues (such as it appears you're experiencing) can occur.
First ensure that you have all the latest drivers. Go to your graphic card's manufacturer's site rather than Windows Update to ensure you have the very latest for your graphics card, per the FAQs to the right of this forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/416585?tstart=0
Also ensure that you have the latest Quicktime.
If that and possibly an uninstall/reinstall of Premiere Elements still doesn't fix it, you may need to contact Adobe Tech Support.
Although, as I said, this isn't a 64-bit program, so there are no guarantees.

  • How can I get iMovie 2011 to recognize my Canon Vixia HV30?

When trying to import videos in iMovie 2011, my iMac doesn't recognize my camcorder - it just pulls up the built in camera on the iMac

As far as I have ever seen reported DV or HDV data capture into Premiere Elements Capture Windows (any version) does not work unless the connection is firewire. And, there are occasions (especially with HDV capture firewire) the require that the capture firewire be done in HDVSplit and then the split clips imported into a Premiere Elements project via the typical Get Media/Add Media route.
Which version of Premiere Elements allowed you to do a DV or HDV capture firewire in to its Capture Window using a USB connection? From what you wrote it gave me the impression that you were saying that you had.
If you have followed the protocol for HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 (with correct project preset)
    http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/premiereelements/using/WS5CDA0F91-60F1-4b79-ABF6-E9E75F498DB2. html#WS2AF26FB5-4C63-4c46-9DB3-7249558F6528
then you would need to explore the use of HDVSplit (firewire connection) and then import of the .m2t split clips from that process in to Premiere Elements 12 (Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets).
    http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm
If both these Canon camera are miniDV camcorders, then you need a firewire connect to the data capture into Premiere Elements Capture Windows.
Do you have access to a computer with a firewire port?
    Or
Does your computer have what is referred to as a PCMCIA slot for use with a firewire card? Have you looked into the possibility? No sure if that will work for you.

  • I have an old Canon Vixia HV30 in which I am unable to upload some old footage into the latest Final Cut Pro X. Any suggestions please?

My latest version of Final Cut X does not even acknowledge that I have a camera when I try and upload some old footage into a FinalCut Event that I am currently working on. Can any one recommended any suggestions? Thanks

Is the camera recognized in System Information? What computer is this? How exactly is the camera connected? What software and OS versions are you using?

  • Importing my Cannon mini HDV Vixia HV30

I recently installed premiere elements 7 on my Vista 64 bit operating system. When I begin to capture the video from my camcorder, via firewire, there is no preview or anything that shows that I'm recording. I know that when I press capture or begin my camcorder begins to play, but nothing comes up on my monitor. I stop it and then try to view the file/project anyways and nothing is available. I have no idea what needs to be done. I did notice a time or two a still shot will pop up. But that's it.  Any suggestions?
I tried using Microsoft movie maker, but it doesn't work either.

Used to be the case that MS OS's shipped with and installed most MS CODEC's by default. With Vista, MS made some changes. I believe that there is a Vista CODEC "pack" available from MS.
Since later in the thread, you comment on your wife's computer being able to do the Capture and playback, it would be worth a trip to the MS site to see. It is highly possible that her OS does have all necessary CODEC's installed.
One can also download and install G-Spot. It will do two things:
1.) survey your system for all properly installed CODEC's. Do not be alarmed if it reports that some of the Adobe CODEC's are missing, as those CODEC's just have a different naming convention in the Registry - this is a false-positive.
2.) tell you what the details of your file are, when you drag it to G-Spot. Part of this will be the necessary CODEC's for both the Audio and Video, and whether you have them, or not. It will give you the exact name of the missing CODEC's.
    Good luck,

  • Anybody here use a vixia HV30?

been working with mine for a couple of months and i have to say the sharpness does not meet my expectations for HD. this with both auto and manual focus. it seems to be a little sharper playing direct to HDTV than after importing with iMovie HD 6, but am not sure. would love to see a small clip of something you think is sharp.

I use a Huey and had the same problem. If you go to the Pantone website and look for the FAQ section, they discuss this issue and have a resolution to the problem. It has something to do with how OS10.5 starts up applications. Also, they mention an update to the Huey software coming soon to address this.

  • Canon Vixia Sequence Settings after capture

    FCP 5.1.4
Whew, just got a new Canon Vixia HV30. Have read many of the posts about capturing, think I have that down. My question is what should the sequence settings be? To be honest, when I look at the pop up menu, I am blown away by the choices, so many... Here is what I am doing:
    1. For capturing: Final Cut Easy Setups. Use: HDV 1080i60 Firewire Basic This seems to work so far (have not captured much yet with the camera, what I have worked)
    2. I was checking the sequence settings, went to the Load Sequence Present and set it at HDV-1080i60 (the 60 is the hertz?)
When I drag the video to the sequence, I get the red render bar at the top. Why would that be happening? Should it be happening?
It seems to me that I must have something set wrong, why would it want to render everything, even without any sort of change.
    Thanks in advance.

HDV - 1080i60 FireWire Basic is the correct Easy Setup.
There is no need to actually set the sequence because when you drag the footage into the timeline, if the sequence settings are wrong you should get an error message saying "Do you want the sequence changing to match the footage". Click "yes" (or whatever the wording is).
You shouldn't be getting a red line unless the sequence is really wrong and you haven't let FCP correct it.

  • Downloading video from Canon Vixia HV 30 via HDMI to Mini DisplayPort

Laptop Specs: White MacBook 10.6.6, 2 x USB, Mini DisplayPort, Audio In/Out
    Camera: Canon Vixia HV30
I recently upgraded my MacBook and my new MacBook doesn't have a firewire input. I had downloaded video from my Canon Vixia HV30 to iMovie using an HDV/DV to Firewire chord.
Since the new MacBook doesn't have a firewire input, I tried an HDMI to Mini DisplayPort chord. The MacBook (via Finder, iMovie, and Final Cut Express) doesn't recognize that there is a camera connected.
    Any ideas?

That's a miniDV camera. MiniDV ALWAYS needs Firewire - there's no way around it. There are no USB to Firewire converters. If you very recently (last 14 days) bought the Macbook, and you absolutely want to continue using the camera, you could perhaps return the MB and see if the 13" Macbook Pro is within your budget.
Modern consumer HD cameras tend to use USB connections.

  • Workflow HV30 30p to Blu Ray

I am having the hardest time trying to figure out how to import / edit / burn (not even sure if that is the right terms) my family's home videos.  I am a beginner with all of this, but competent if someone can just point me the right way...
I have a big backlog of HDV home videos all shot in 30p mode on my Canon Vixia HV30.
I want to do 3 things, in order of priority:
    1) Transfer the raw footage from the HDV in the camera to a hard drive(or other media) in max quality for storage and easy retrieval in the future if and when the tape based camera dies.
    2) Burn the footage to a Blu Ray disc for playing in a BR player connected to my TV. (no conversion needed?)
    3) Edit the footage in the highest possible quality and burn to BR.
    4) convert and then burn the footage to a DVD disc for playing in a DVD player connected to my TV. (lower priority)
I have an HV30, all 30p footage, a powerful new pc, a blu ray writer with discs, Premiere Elements 12.
None of the default project setting seem to match the progressive 30p format that I filmed in.  Is PE12 capable of doing what I want it to?
    Thanks for the help!

    idrive67elky
    1. You will need a firewire connection for your HDV data capture firewire into Premiere Elements 12 capture window.
(The project preset will be NTSC HDV HDV 1080p30).
    http://help.adobe.com/fr_FR/premiereelements/using/WS5CDA0F91-60F1-4b79-ABF6-E9E75F498DB2. html#WS2AF26FB5-4C63-4c46-9DB3-7249558F6528
    2. If "1" does not work for you, then you do a HDV data capture firewire into HDVSplit and then import the .m2t split clips into a Premiere Elements project with its Add Media/Files and Folders/Project Assets. In "1" you are putting MPEG2.mpg on the Timeline. In "2", you are putting MPEG2.m2t on the Timeline.
    http://strony.aster.pl/paviko/hdvsplit.htm
    3. Publish+Share/Disc/Blu-ray with preset = H.264 1920 x 1080i NTSC Dolby.
    or
    4. Publish+Share/Disc/DVD disc preset = NTSC_Widescreen_Dolby DVD.
    5. For export to folder saved to computer hard drive compare
    Publish+Share/Computer/MPEG with preset = MPEG2 - 1920 x 1080i30 (MPEG2.m2t)
    with
    Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD with preset = M2T - H.264 1920 x 1080i30 (H.264.m2t)
I am purposely not selecting the 1440 x 1080 choices since a 16:9 flag comes with them to stretch the 1440 x 1080 to 1920 x 1080 for display after encoding.
Please review and see if any of the above works for you.
    Thank you.

  • ProRes422HQ with a Canon HV30 and Final Cut....

I'm shooting with a Canon HV30 in HDV24p Cinema Mode. When interfacing to Final Cut Pro, my understanding is that the Cinema Mode records at regular 29.97, but with the look of 24fps. FCP crashes when I try to import it as ProRes422(HQ).
Can anyone please enlighten me as to what sequence settings I should be using to edit an HD movie, combining old home movies that are 720x480 alongside the HD footage? This is for a high end customer who wants the best quality possible (with reasonable render times and work loads on the CPU).

For the Canon VIXIA HV30 If you set cinema mode up correctly on the cannon your shooting in 24fps or 24p
Try using 1080i/24p setting for easy setup. You can get there by going to easy set up. Then chosing:
    Format:HD
Rate:(all rates) from the "all rates" drop down chose 1080/24p firewire basic. Not sure on this.
I just got the camera and noticed that when I select the "firewire basic" option I have issues.
I have been using the: HD 1080i/60 as that is what cannon mentions that HDV is being encoded at.
Hope that helps. I plan on shooting some 24p clips soon and will post my results.

  • Need expert help with Canon Vixia HV 30 downloads

I have a Canon miniDV Vixia HV30 high def camera. The new apple macbook (aluminum) does not have a firewire to import the video from the HDMI terminal. How can I get the video from the camcorder into the laptop??

I have the exact same issue. Didn't even think to check when I bought this a few weeks ago--I can't believe there's no FireWire port. I've had a FireWire port on my Apple notebooks for five years (two previous ones...)
Apple claims that I should be able to import footage via a USB cable from my Vixia. lol. The computer doesn't recognize it. I'm going to Apple Store tomorrow, and bringing two cameras, USB cords, etc. If they can't work this out, I feel like they owe me another computer...
Anyone else have an opinion on this?
    Thanks
