VK14 - Condition Texts Missing

Is there a way to get the condition texts to get copied over when using VK14?
Using VK11, I created a pricing condition with some long text.
If I use VK14 to create with reference to the condition created via VK11, the long text is the only thing not copied over. I was unable to find a good OSS. What am I missing?
We are on ECC5.
Thank you for your assistance,
Arnaud

Dear Arnaud,
This is standard functionality, that condition texts are not copied when
creating condition record by reference (e.g. by Trx TK14 or VK14).
A development is not intended also, because from standard business
process point-of-view, it make no sense to copy dedicated text, which
applies mostly only for origin condition record (e.g. a comment after
price agreement for a special customer). Thus, in nearly most cases, the
origin text won't be valid anymore (and therefore even wrong) for new
condition record.
Thus, in your case, you need to enter (or just copy by cut/paste)
condition text manually within new created condition records.
I hope that the information are helpful.
regards
Claudia

  • How to build a document with conditional text

So, I created a condition for a feature that is new to my document and until it's stable, I want to hide that text. No problem. I selected the condition and from the Show/Hide Conditional Text pod, I moved it over to hide. When I created the conditional text, I gave it a background color of gray so I could easily distinguish the conditional text from the non-conditional text. However, if I leave the conditional text visible and go to generate a PDF, the gray background style appears on the conditional text in the PDF. Is there something I'm missing here when it comes to building a PDF? I don't want the style I see in the FM file to appear in the final PDF. I only want that background color as an indicator while I'm editing it. I don't want to have to remember to change the style every time I want to build with the condition visible. Here's a screenshot from the PDF. The bits in gray are what I had applied the condition to.
After selecting the book file, I tried both doing a Save as PDF and a Print Book but both options ended up with my conditional text having the gray background style in the final output.

No, you have misunderstood the problem. Yes, If I want to hide the condition so it doesn't print, that works great. But, once the feature is active (or say I have two customers, one that has the feature and one that doesn't), If I want to print the document with the conditional text visible, then I want the text but I don't want the background style that shows up in FM. The conditional style should only appear in FM, not the generated PDF.
I worked for years with Madcap's Flare and you could set the color of the conditional text in order to distinguish what text was conditioned and with what condition (different colors for different conditions). However, when you generated the output, those colors never showed up. The only thing that displayed was the text that was set to be visible. That's what I was expecting from FM. And the FM tutorials I have taken, that's what they stated should happen. Here's a transcript from the FrameMaker 10 tutorial on Lynda.com:
When we go down to the Conditional Text pod, you'll notice that we have a number of radio buttons for In, Not In, As Is, and then we also have our tags down below. So this is going to be in the US version. So we'll click the US tag. We'll change the radio button to In. You'll see the status change over here to In, and then we'll apply that by clicking the first button in our group of buttons here to apply it. Now, you'll see something change here in the document and if we deselect our text, you can see it's now blue with the overline and that's how we decided the style and color would appear for our US tags. That's not how it's going to print. It's just for our own visual purposes.

  • Highlight text using conditional text

    Hi,
I need to highlight text using conditional text in InDesign.  I can highlight text using the below code.
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    colorToHighlig = myDoc.conditions.add ({name:"Yellow",indicatorMethod:ConditionIndicatorMethod.USE_HIGHLIGHT, indicatorColor:UIColors.YELLOW});
    app.findGrepPreferences = app.changeGrepPreferences = null;
    app.changeGrepPreferences.appliedConditions = [colorToHighlig] ;
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = "chapter";
    myDoc.changeGrep();
But I need to set Indicator to "Show and Print" coz while generation pdf with indicator mode "show", highlights are missing in PDF.  I can retain those highlights with the indicator mode "Show and Print". Dono how to set it..
If anyone know, pls help me.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sudha K

    Hi,
it seems, that this one is not a property of the condition, it is a preference:
    myDoc.conditionalTextPreferences.showConditionIndicators = ConditionIndicatorMode.SHOW_AND_PRINT_INDICATORS;

  • FM9: Show conditional text for entire book -- how?

In FM8, I would select all the docs in my book, then choose Special>Conditional Text>Show/Hide Conditional Text to display the conditional text dialog. Choose my display options (specific conditions, or Show All), then apply. Voila!
In FM9, I can't seem to figure out how to do it. If I follow the same steps, when the dialog appears, all of the options are 'greyed out'.
    Help?

    Hmmm.... nope :-)
Okay, I opened up my book (contains 17 documents, at least 12 of them have conditional text). I have two of the documents displayed so that I can see what's going on.
To 'show all' conditional text for a specific document:
    - Click in the document to give it focus.
    - Click Show/Hide Conditional Text to display the pod.
    - Select Show All and click Apply.
    - Success, for that document.
To 'show all' conditional text for the entire book:
    - Click in the book pod to give it focus.
    - Ctrl+A to select all the documents (all docs are now highlighted)
    - View > Show/Hide Conditional Text... to display the pod.
    - All options are grayed out, and no conditions appear in the Show or Hide lists.
Am I missing a step somewhere (or more likely, am I doing this totally incorrectly)?
    Thanks!

  • Language translation of Condition text

    Hi Friends,
I am working on an Implementation Project & would need your inputs on the following requirement:
Condition Texts are maintained in ECC at a Condition Record level. This is maintained in English and would be uploaded using a BDC / LSMW program. The client requires this Condition Text to be translated in the end user Log In language i.e, When we login to the SAP system with French language, we should be able to see text in french language and similarly for other languages too.
Is there any SAP OSS note / standard FM which can be used to address this Condition Text translation? Any help from your end would be most encouraging.
    Thanks & regards

    Hi Manish,
The required texts are stored in table TMC1T.
And here is the description how to maintain and transport the condition
    table description:
    1. Logon in language, where the description is missing (e.g. German).
    2. Tranaction V/04, enter the table number
       ->ENTER
    3. Either enter a text into the description field (next to the table
number) or you press the button 'Text vorschlagen/pflegen'
('Propose/maintain text') at the right-hand side. This proposes the
short text of the (variable) key fields as table descripiton.
    4. Press the 'Generieren' ('Generate') button at the top left-hand side.
Now you can save your changes.
    5. Transaction SE09: Here you can see the transport request with the
       transportation objects R3TR VKOI A*** and R3TR VKOS A***.
The TMC1T table entries are part of the VKOI transportation object.
So if you release the transport, the desciption will also be
       transported.
I hope this information is helpful.
    Thanks,

  • Book and File Conditional Text Tags Don't Match

In Framemaker 10 (TCS 3, Windows 7 64-bit), when I click on a document in a the book (& View>Show/Hide Conditional Text), an extra conditional text tag shows up that doesn't exist in the document Show/Hide Conditional Text.
    For example:
In the book, My Book.book, I select Chapter1.fm (but don't open it).
Then I open the Show/Hide Conditional Text panel (View>Show/Hide Conditional Text)
I see these two condition tags, Hide Text and HideText. I use Hide Text but not HideText.Apparently, at some point I changed the name of the condition tag.
    Then I open Chapter1.fm.
When I open the Show/Hide Conditional Text panel, HideText isn't there.
What I want to do is to delete HideText (the one I don't use), but I can't find ourt how to do it. any ideas out there?
One more bit of information that might help figure out what's going on:
I select Chapter1.fm in the book.
Then I select Show as per condition in the Show/hide Conditional Text panel.
Select HideText in the Hide field.
Click the left arrow (<--) to move HideText to the Show field.
    Click Apply.
I get this error message in the Book Error Log:
Cannot show the following tags because they do not exist in this document
So, can anyone tell me how to get rid of HideText from the book files?
    Thanks!
    John N.

    John, some troubleshooting questions:
    1. did all of the file(s) originate from FM10 or were any from previous versions? Did you import previous version content? Slight naming differences between FM versions is an insidious problem that many of us here can relate to ... If any of the files were from previous versions, I would start with testing FM10 original content itself, to see what naming convention FM10 starts with.
    2. if you want to dive into the innards of your problem files, you might use the venerable MIFBrowser, a freebie from
    http://www.wideman-one.com/gw/tech/framemaker/mifbrowse.htm
Although it hasn't been updated in a loooooong time, it should still work perfectly with FM10 MIF files.  It's just a viewer, not an editor, but it will help you get a handle on both the conditional tags in-situ, in comparison to the tag as defined in the condition catalog section.
MIF is a bit daunting if you've never looked at it, but with MIFBrowse the various sections of content are more easily viewable.
    3. With copies of your FM files safely backed up you could then edit the conditions in the.MIF files in a text editor (or by using FM itself, although this takes some special care to ensure that the file remains as text. I personally fine text editors (e.g. NotepadPlus or EmEditor) easier to use because viewing line numbers helps when trying to sync between what you see in the MIFBrowse display vs. actually edit the content.
    4. It's also possible to save the .book file as .mif to then examine/edit the conditional tag catalog with a text editor. You could copy the "missing" conditional definition from one of the chapters into the .book file.

  • How to build conditional text from a data merge

    Hi there
I'm hoping this is not a long shot but I do have a rather large ask (I think).
I cannot figure out how to create conditions on values.
We have two areas that require conditional text. See these areas on the attached image.
Features offered - up to 6.  These are identified by defining each feature with a letter, eg 'n' stands for tent site and 'L' stands for seasonal work,  and
Room type offered - four colour codes with this. These range from "not made up", "made up", "ensuite/madeup" and "ensuite".
The tab delimited file contains numerous columns for each room type - single, double, twin, share and dorm rooms that offer the 4 room type categories - see point 2 above.
I cannot figure out how to clarify the conditions I require for the conditional text.
Do I start with making 4 conditions for each room type colour and so-on for the rest of the room types ie single not madeup, single madeup, single madeup ensuite and single ensuite?
And if so, how do I create these using the correct conditional code?   Does GREP have anything to do with this and do I need to use its metacharacters like \?
Can someone perhaps start me off?
The same goes for the features.  The features are displayed in the spreadsheet per column with either a 'yes' or a 'no' displayed.
I hope I have provided enough information to get some assistance.
    Thanks so much.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I can't see why you need conditional text. I can see that you may want to color each property in each category differently, to stand out for quick visual communication.
If each feature (attribute) of each property or venue is represented in one spreadsheet row (record,) you can use data merge to create the whole entry for each property. For example, a property may offer two types of rooms - single and double, and the single may be available as "not made up" only, while the double is available as "ensuite/madeup" and "ensuite."
In the spreadsheet, in the row for the Acme Inn property, which only offers single not-made-up and single ensuite/madeup rooms, and for the Ajax Hotel property which offers single made-up, single ensuite/madeup, and single ensuite rooms, the cells that contain the data for the merge fields would look like this:
    Property ID
    single not-made-up
    single made-up
    single ensuite/madeup
    single ensuite
    Acme Inn
    $50
    empty cell
    $75
    empty cell
    Ajax Hotel
    empty cell
    $65
    $75
    $85
On the data-merge layout, each room type's label would be followed by all four data-merge field placeholders, with colors applied, so the single would look like:
    Sgle: <<single not-made-up>> (red) <<made-up>> (yellow) <<ensuite/madeup>> (green) <<ensuite>> (blue)
NOTE: The colors are applied with named character styles to the data-merge layout in InDesign.
[EDIT] BAH! I applied colors to the text when composing this post, but they were removed when I posted. [/EDIT]
When you set up the merge with Remove Blank Lines for Empty Fields enabled (checked) so the empty cells are ignored, the result resembles this:
For the Acme Inn:      Sgl: $50 (red) $75 (green) $85 (blue)
For the Ajax Hotel:    Sgl: $65 (yellow) $75 (green) $85 (blue)
The separator character between the prices in your example is a special issue. It could be solved in the spreadsheet by creating calculated columns between the price columns, with "IF" formulas that test for values or empty cells and display the separator or nothing. If you choose this method, you'd need to insert fields between the placeholder fields, to hold the calculated fields' contents.
Another approach here would be to follow the data-merge process with a GREP script that inserts separators where they're needed.
Search Google for terms like "InDesign data-merge tutorial," "InDesign data-merge remove blank lines," "InDesign multiple records per page," and similar phrases without quotes.

  • Show/Hide conditional text at a book level

I am using TCS2 on Windows XP.
    FM 9.0 p250
I have several files as part of a large FM book. Each file has the same text conditional tags. Can I, at a book level, set my conditions to show/hide, etc. and then update the book? So far, I only know how to open each file, set the SHOW/HIDE CONDITIONAL TEXT as I need it (not to show conditiona indicators and according to my built expression) and then save and close each file.
Is there a way to do all my files at once? Note- I want them all set the same way... so that might make it easier..
    Thanks,

I don't have FrameMaker available right now, so I'm working from memory, using the traditional FrameMaker menus, rather than the FM 9 tools.
Select all the files in the book window. With the book window active, open the View menu and look for Conditional Text. Your settings here apply to all selected files in the book window, so it's possible to set conditions on all or some files files. Ctrl+Click to select non-contiguous files; Shift+Click to select a range of contiguous files.

  • Email printed to PDF, PDF appears accurate in Acrobat XI Pro, when PDF printed to paper text missing

    HELP!!!
I have text disappear from Outlook emails printed to PDF when I print the PDF files from Acrobat XI Pro to a printer.
Here is a sample png from the PDF file printed out of Outlook - all the text is showing.
However when I print the PDF from Acrobat to a printer, the document comes out of the printer with text missing as shown:
The Acrobat print window shows all of the text that should be there as does Acrobat's view of the document.
Also, if I save the file to an image, all of the text is there.
I have tried different emails as well as different printers and the paper printed copies of the PDF emails are always missing text.
Additionally I have tried coverting the PDF file to a PDF/A file and printing that and the same problems occur.
Please send some tips as to how I can fix this!

    Hello Atul -
i am having similar printing issues with Acrobat 10.1.4.
in my case both PDFs made by me (from InDesign files) and other PDFs made elsewhere and sent to me are missing text when printed to paper -though they look fine both on-screen and in the preview pane, as Katy noted above.
these PDFs print fine when i open and print from an older version of Acrobat (9.5.2).
they will also print fine from 10.1.4 if i send them to another printer in the office, (a Dell Color Laser 3110cn), the printer i have a problem with is a Kyocera Mita KM-5053 - which leads me to believe that this is some kind of communication error between Adobe Acrobat Pro 10.1.4 and this printer, or perhaps a driver issue. ?
I don't believe it's merely a preferences/print settings problem as i've gone pretty carefully through all the dialog boxes that seem relevant and have had no luck in solving the problem. Also, the text that's missing seems arbitraty - meaning, it's not merely hyperlinks or certain layers or text in specific type faces that won't print -it's content in the same text box, where other text does print, and it's blacks and colors and various point sizes - in short there are no easily discernable unifying circumstances among the text that does not print.
obvioulsy an easy work around is to just print to the other printer or use the older version of Acrobat, but my concern is more that other people may be experiencing the same issues with PDFs i send them. so if it is a problem in the way i'm generating PDFs (although, as i said, text is also missing from PDFs i have received from other people and printed) i'd like to fix it quickly, so that people trying to print my PDFs don't end up with critical content missing.
i'm on a 2008 MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5, and using the Acrobat (X Pro v 10.1.4) that came with the CS6 Design & Web Premium package - although i'm looking at it online now and it's listed as Acrobat XI Pro..
any input you have would be much appreciated.
    thank you,

  • (FM8p277) Crashes when saving first doc in book after changing conditional text display

    That was a mouthful :-)
Okay, this happens with any of the books that I work on --- it never happened with Frame 7.
I have a book containing several documents.
The documents contain several conditional text segments.
Start new Framemaker session, open book, open all documents.
Change conditional text display (from Show All to Show Selected, or vice-versa).
From the book, choose Save All (or from the *first* document, choose Save). The following text appears in a 'FrameMaker dialog': "File <filename of first document>.fm has changed on the disk since you last opened or saved it. Someone else has probably modified the file. Do you want to save it anyway?
Click OK. All of the files save properly. (If I had clicked Cancel, the first file would be skipped and all other files would save.)
Change conditional text display again (note: this could even be for a different book at this point, I believe, but will have to verify).
(Repeat step 3): The same text appears again in the dialog.
Click OK. FrameMaker crashes while trying to save the first file. (If I had clicked Cancel, the first file would be skipped and all other files would save. However, if I attempt to save the first file afterward, FrameMaker still crashes.)
Anybody have any insight into this? Am I the only one this happens to? Argh :-)
    Thanks.

Sorry, the only answers I got were on the forum and nothing worked
That being said, at least now I know I'm not crazy! (Sorry it had to
    happen to you, though.)
As it stands, I've been training myself to make sure that after the
first time I toggle the settings, I do the save, and then make sure to
save all, quit, and restart FrameMaker before I attempt another toggle.
On the odd occasion that I don't do that and get the warning message, I
select Cancel (which lets the rest of the files save), quit, restart,
and then make sure I update the first document appropriately.
All the while cursing and swearing, of course
As an aside... if you find a solution, please let me know about it if
    you remember.
    Thanks.

  • Conditional Text in Table - Problems with row height adjustment

    Hey there,
I’m german but I try to express my problem in english as good as I can. Not always easy with the different menu names. Hope you get what I want to say! :-)
As you can see in my attached screenshot, I placed text in a table.
Text height is set to: minimum 1,5 … so it adjusts to the amount of text.
This is what I want - it should adjust the height to the marked/aktivated conditional text.
It always adjusts the hight when I blind out the first line oder lines in between (e.g. line 2+3 of 4).
But if I want to blind out the last line(s), there is a ¶ at the end and a extra blank line with the #.
I know, the # stands for the following hidden Text, but why does it work with the red/green text.
There is also text hidden (green), but the mark # is right after the last word - not in a new line.
Has anyone a solution for this?
    Thanks in advance!

That's ok so far. A paragraph sign at the end of a text forces a new line.
To change that do the following:
For every condition you need another condition just for the paragraph sign that comes immediately after the condition. Not after every paragraph of one condition, but at the end of every consecutive numbers of paragraphs of the same condition.
So in your third example you'll need two conditions more:
    1. One for the paragraph sign at the end of condition "meaasurements"
    2. One for the paragraph sign at the end of condition "price 2"
Whenever you make the other conditions invisible, you also have to turn off the new conditions that only control the paragraph signs.

  • Removing conditional text tags in a batch

    Hi everyone, using TCS2 on Win-7 64-bit.
We have been using some conditional text tags in our writing, and now we are looking at adding a few new ones and taking a few away. Is there a way to remove a batch of conditional text tags from a whole bunch of FM documents, all at once? It is a tedious process to do it manually, doc per doc, tag per tag... wondering if there is a script, or anything like that?
    Thanks,
    Adriana

I believe there are a couple of utilities to manage conditional tags; you might try searching Leximation's tool list:
    http://www.leximation.com
And, there could definitely be Framescript-based scripts, either generic or written customized for your requirements. Here's the FrameScript group:
    http://groups.yahoo.com/subscribe/framescript-users

  • Adding Conditional-Text conditions in bulk.

We are importing text from excel using XML via XSLT.
We would like to mark certain prices (excel columns or Indesign tags) as conditional text.
We are having a great deal of difficulty in applying conditional text using find-and-replace within Indesign, because of the variation in formatting of prices.
Below two products, where product B includes a thousands comma separater, a Tax Staus marker in the UK and a Truck Shipping marker in the USA all of which need to be included within the conditional text.
    Product
    UK (X1X)
    Europe (X2X)
    USA (X3X)
    A
    £1.99
    3.50E
    £3.59
    B
    £1,199.00 XV
    3.500.00E
    $3,590.00 T
Is it possible to apply conditions to tags?
Is it possible to apply conditions using XML or XSLT?

This problem was solved by a response to a more focussed question about GREP searching.
applying the conditions is straightforward once the correct strings have been GREP'd

  • Very slow PDF generation when conditional text is hidden in FM 9.0

I am working on 96-page chapter of a larger book. A 7-page section of the chapter needs to be hidden until the next release, so I hid it with conditional text. After doing this, the "Save as PDF" printing process goes from taking 6-7 seconds to taking several minutes. If I unhide the conditional text in the same session, printing is very quick again.
I have no problem generating very PDF files with the PDF printer in other applications (Word, PowerPoint). The issue is specific to FrameMaker and the use of conditional text. What might be causing this?
I am using FrameMaker 9.0p255 and Distiller 9.0.
    - Chris

    Hi Jeff,
These were good suggestions to try. Saving the document first has no effect on PDF generation.
However, I did find that printing to the Adobe PDF printer remains fast when the conditional text is hidden. That's quite an interesting finding! I did also notice that these two methods of PDF generation aren't identical:
"Save as PDF" opens an Adobe Distiller window, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer opens a different "Creating Adobe PDF" progress box (looks like it's from the printer driver itself).
"Save as PDF" generates a 1188k PDF file, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer generates a 1049k PDF file.
"Save as PDF" defaults to placing the PDF in FrameMaker's working directory, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer defaults to saving to the last place to saved a printed PDF file (awkward when working with multiple directories, as I often do).
When I do a "Save as PDF", FrameMaker does still spool to the PDF printer. It is this spooling that takes a long time. Once spooling is complete, then the Distiller window opens and the PDF is created very quickly.
I would still like to get "Save as PDF" working since it knows where to place the PDF file. No solution to the runtime yet, but at least there is progress...
