VL600 failing ? Connection drops to 6%, tap it, goes to 90%

For about the last year and a half it's worked great. We use it for our primary internet connection since we live in an area not served by cable or dsl internet. Verizon has a new tower less than a mile from us so we always get a connection of 88-92%, recently the connection has been dropping to 6%, then jumping back to 90% then back down again. Today when it was sitting at 6% I flicked the modem to see what would happen and it instantly jumped back 88%, leads me to think the modem has a bad internal connection.
Anyone else have this happen and off hand anyone know if it's under warranty after approximately 18 months ?

I was experiencing the same problem (or something similar). Spent the whole morning trying to reset the airport express several times, update firmware, etc. Called my provider (Kotnet in Leuven, Belgium, so few others would use it!) and they assured me they hadn't done anything that would affect me (I don't believe it entirely), etc.
Essentially, yesterday everything worked fine. This morning I got the flashing amber light indicating that the AE wasn't getting an internet connection, though my Powerbook could establish one (and share it with another computer) using the same ethernet cable I use with the AE. I tried everything I could think of and everything suggested on the forum that seemed promising.
Then I fixed it with one change that no one (that I had found) had suggested. Under Network in the Airport Setup configuration panel, I first deselected the setting for Distribute IP Addresses. After Updating, I noticed that the light remained green, though when I selected Distribute IP Addresses again, and updated, of course it reverted to flashing amber. So I tried changing from "Use 10.0.1.1 addressing" to "Use 192.168.1.1 addressing." This matched the IP address I got when it did work.
Either something happened in the night to change my setting (and unless I had been hacked, I don't know what would have done that) or my service provider changed the setting on the router I communicate with. Kotnet is a direct ethernet connection to the internet, so there's no cable modem or anything between me and their network.
I'm writing this in the hope that it might help those of you with a similar problem. Try switching the "Use xxxxx addressing" settings. I wish I'd done this before resetting to factory defaults, etc. (but I did update my firmware, which sounds like it was worthwhile even if it didn't help my problem).
To test whether your AE network settings are causing the problem when sharing the internet connection, turn that feature off.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • 10.5.2 failed to fix wireless connection dropping problem

10.5.2 did not fix wireless connection dropping problem. I lose wireless connection whenever my MBP restarts or wake up from sleep in the building where I am and have to retype password about 10 times a day. I had not had this problem when I used Tiger. Everyone who has upgraded to Leopard or has it installed on their Mac is experiencing the same problem. Is there any solution or trick to resolve this problem? Thank you.

    Amularya,
Please read the post I made in this thread earlier. No less than a dozen solutions are offered in the link I provided for wireless issues. Troubleshooting wireless issues requires individual attention because of the plethora of issues which can't be tested for. So please start a new topic thread here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1225&start=0
So you can get a wider audience, and won't confuse the original poster with solutions that don't apply to them.
There literally hundreds of different WiFi adapters.
Dozens of different virus and firewall combinations.
Possibilities for damaged WiFi cards and routers, as well as routers whose firmware is not to spec with the latest wireless standard.
To top it off, bad RAM, hard disk being too full, and bad preference, cache or or logfiles can make various aspects of the operating system misbehave, and/or even the directory leading to those files.
Until each person starts their own thread looking for solution individually, chances are they won't find one. Yes, 10.5.2 addresses WiFi for some people. Obviously it doesn't for everyone. The point is, there are some people, like myself who have never had a WiFi issue either with Intel or PowerPC Macs that they couldn't resolve without a little bit of troubleshooting. I'm happy to help you walk through it, but only if you start your own thread asking for help.

  • Wifi connection drops down. [SOLVED]

Hi, I'm having some issues with the wifi, in my notebook lenovo b5070. The main problem is that the connection drops down after 20, 30 minutes. I tried to change from NetworkManager to Wicd, but that didn't change anything. I also tried to create a profile and connect me through netctl, but again that didn't change anything. Other issues that I'm having are: Sometimes I can't even connect to the wifi, or if I can connect finally, and I try to request some website, the browser keeps idle and finally shows a "Server not found" message. Also the wifi signal seems pretty fine. I also tried change the tx, rts to the max with iwconfig, but this didn't change anything. I'm running out of ideas. Any idea?

So long I tried as Gusar said to loading the rtl8723b module with those params:
    sudo modprobe rtl8723be fwlps=0
    sudo modprobe rtl8723be ips=0
So far by now, the connection hasn't dropped (one hour since I made the change)
But is quite strange that when I do
    [astinx@compu ~]$ more /sys/module/rtl8723be/parameters/ips
    Y
I mean, the parameters changed or not? I also tried with setting with N instead of 0.
    EDIT:
The drop downs come back shortly after. I find quite strange that I cannot manage the power from iwconfig
    [astinx@compu ~]$ sudo iwconfig wlp9s0 power off

  • SpamAssassin / Amavisd tuning - TCP active open: Failed connect() errors

I started this post as we were experiencing a problem with occassional delayed mail delivery to our mail store. As I continued writing it, I think that I've resolved it. But I wanted to post this anyway so if I'm doing things right it might help someone else; or, if I'm doing something wrong someone can correct me. :) For reference, we have a quad Sun v440, and process about 500,000 messages a day.
We were seeing messages like this in our log files:
09-Nov-2006 08:28:09.37 tcp_scan Q 1 [email protected] rfc822;[email protected] @tcp_scan-daemon:[email protected] TCP active open: Failed connect() Error: Connection timed out
example.com represents our local domain. The errors seemed to occur proportionally to the amount of incoming mail we received. That is, we saw more of them under load.
We are running SpamAssassin, Amavisd/clamav, and:
Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-5.01 (built Nov 22 2005)
    libimta.so 6.2-5.01 (built 11:57:57, Nov 22 2005)
    SunOS hostname 5.9 Generic_118558-11 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V440
This line seems to say that the message is in the tcp_scan channel, and cannot send to 127.0.0.1:10024 (amavisd) because that port isn't listening.
My amavisd max_servers was set at 15. After reading http://www.ijs.si/software/amavisd/amavisd-new-magdeburg-20050519.pdf and making a wild guess, I increased it to 30. The errors were less frequent, but still occurred.
The output of 'sar -d' showed that my local disk was experiencing upwards of 80% utilization. I moved the amavisd temp directory and the spamassassin bayes db to a san volume, and that sped everything up dramatically. The connect errors went away, clamav avg time per message is at 4 seconds down from 10. I am now receiving errors from spamassassin that say:
Nov 9 10:27:27 hostname.example.com spamd[21601]: prefork: server reached --max-children setting, consider raising it
My --max-children is set to 25 right now, and the server is cpu bound under heavy load, so I see no reason to raise it.
So this is my setup. I am no longer having an immediate problem, but comments/questions are welcome.
Config files related to my setup are below.

    Hi Niko,
I already disable IPv6 and IPv4 checksum offloading, also check the MTU on each HT but still no luck.
I found the following error on the Netmon:
i already tls on receive connector, enable anonymous authentication, still no luck.
    any idea?

    Hi,
I'm getting this error when attempting to send messages to a domain rcmoore.com. I'm unable to send or receive messages from this domain. And my exchange 2010 queue viewer gives me an error

succeed. Either there are no alternate hosts, or delivery failed to all alternate hosts.
    Please help.
    Subin Suresh

    Hello Subin,
Have you tried a telnet to port 25 of the sending domain from the Hub transport/edge (if edge is presented)? This is required a success send. If this is not an issue, try Unchecking of "Enable Domain Security" at the properties
of the send connector and do a test

  • Wireless connection drops at random

    Hi,
I have a 27" late 2011 iMAC. Since I updated to Lion my wireless connection drops at random. The wireless symbol shows that I am connected, but i cannot use the internet.
The sollution at that time is that I turn off wireless, and than turn it on again. This solves the problem, but only temporarely. Since I also own a NAS for TimeMachine backups, the dropping of the connection is annoying because the backups fail most of the time.
What is causing this problem. I have 2 windows PC's and the connection stays. Router has latest firmware (fritzbox 7340), and my mac is up to date.
    Please help.
    Thanx in advance.

    Hi,
try to change the WiFi channel on your fritzbox, sometimes it works better on higher channels 11, 12, 13 especially if there are Telekom routers in your neibourhood. Make sure to use the latest Firmware for your Fritz!Box, the actually had a few issues in this area a few months ago. If this still does not help, only activate the 2,4 Ghz Bandwidth on the Firtz!Box and deactivate de 5 Ghz option.
I hope that this will solve your issue.
    Cheers

  • Connection drop outs & lots of errors reported

    Hello,
I've been having countless issues with my broadband connection dropping 4 or 5 times a day at least for about the last 12 months. A BT engineer visited my property earlier this year as a result of problem (Which I assumed to be my homehub 2.0 at the time), the engineer said that there were lots of errors reported on the line and as far as I'm aware he replaced a section of the cable from the road to my house but there has been no improvement (If anything it's actually worse now).
I was sent out the BT Homehub 3.0 believing that it could possibly be my Homehub 2.0 that was failing but I found that was even worse than the old Hub 2.0.
I've tried contacting the broadband technical department a few times this week but was told by the automated service that BT were experiencing "major technical problems" and to call back at a later time.
I'm at a loss as to what the problem could actually be now, (I've had the line checked, taken the cover off the openreach facia and plugged directly into the socket, changed filters countless times and even tried multiple hubs from both BT and bought a Netgear router but no change).
So I'm left posting a message in here to see if someone can once and for all sort my broadband gremlins out .
I've posted some stats reported from my hub as of 1pm on the 14/10/11 :
    ADSL line status
    Connection information
    Line state
    Connected
    Connection time
    0 days, 8:22:32
    Downstream
    2,799 Kbps
    Upstream
    859 Kbps
    ADSL settings
    VPI/VCI
    0/38
    Type
    PPPoA
    Modulation
    ITU-T G.992.3
    Latency type
    Interleaved
    Noise margin (Down/Up)
    5.3 dB / 6.6 dB
    Line attenuation (Down/Up)
    55.0 dB / 35.7 dB
    Output power (Down/Up)
    0.0 dBm / 12.8 dBm
    Loss of Framing (Local)
    22
    Loss of Signal (Local)

    Loss of Power (Local)

    706 / N/A
    HEC Errors (Down/Up)
    N/A / 0
    Error Seconds (Local)
    1175

Its not the speed that is the issue(even though that's not great), It's the drop outs which are becoming more and more frequent and a lot worse since the engineer visited to replace a section of my line.
For what I need the internet for its starting to become a burden rather than a help.
Here are the BT speedtest results anyhow :
Download speedachieved during the test was - 2250 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 1200-4000 Kbps.
IP Profile for your line is - 2469 Kbps

  • E3000RM - WAN connection dropped

Pros: Good Price. Worked very well when it did operate.
Cons: I purchased this approximately 5 weeks before I got around to using it. After installation, it worked for two days and failed. The WAN connection dropped, and numerous attemps to reconnect failed. Since I was approximately one week past the expiry date of the warrenty I guess I am out of luck and learned a lesson to test upon receipt.

In this case you can reset the router and try to run the cisco connect software that came along with the router to reconfigure it (Note: If you already have cisco connect on your computer then uninstall it first before reinstalling it.). After that you can get into the advance settings of the router through cisco connect and try to reduce the MTU size to 1400.
Click on the following link that shows how to reduce the MTU size http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=66270e5d0d4347d087102f2bfef7116d_3742.xml&pid=80&r...

The iPhone is working, as designed and advertised.  In this case, the user failed to educate themselves properly, either by proper research or asking the right questions, before purchasing the device.
I understand that the OP failed to do research. But then, I wasn't replying to the OP. I was replying to Chris. I have Verizon. I can talk and use data at the same time with my Droid Maxx. Therefore, the problem is not just with the network. It would be technically possible for an iPhone to do that on Verizon/Sprint if Apple had chosen to use a different chip, such as the kind other phone manufacturers have elected to use.
Of course, this is probably all irrelevant to the OP's issue. It was merely a point of clarification, especially for those people who are used to being able to use both voice and data at the same time on Verizon. When they switch to an iPhone, they are often surprized at the limitation.
    Best of luck.

  • Streaming bbc radio, connection drops out, have to manually reload.

    W7 pc, 4GB ram, virus/malware free. 10 mb/s cable access.
I stream BBC radio 4 in separate window. PROBLEM - connection drops out, never re-connects, have to manually reload. Changing BBC feed from nornal to low bandwidth makes no difference. No ISP bandwidth cap. No problems with other downloads (updates, jpegs etc).
Is there a download manager - don't think it can be the BBC site.

BBC at least in the past has often had problems with its Edge Servers and so listeners outside the UK would have problems that took a long while to be solved, the BBC's support system often failed to pass on info regarding problems. Specific countries/ISP s would have problems but as long as the UK service was unaffected the BBC tended not to notice.
I have not recently used BBC iPlayer online. The overseas low/high bandwidth on the iPlayer stream did not do anything other than restart the stream, overseas users only got the one low bandwidth, the option was an artefact.
AFAIK the BBC does still stream Flash and Windows

As you are using a Widows computer try both streams one may work still.
The BBC no longer has a support forum, but you could look at

  • Speed falling, connection drops out

My BB speed used to be about 5.4Mb. Then BT upgraded the exchange and it fell a bit. Then it suddenly dropped to 288K - after 2 weeks I called BT and an engineer came round. He said the drop in speed was caused by me turning off the router during the day and at night - the new exchange needed me to leave it on; he got the speed reset and it was about 7Mb for a week, then dropped to 2Mb - now is at about 6K and I assume will keep falling.
I leave the router on 24/7 as the engineer said I should (though I am NOT happy to do this as it uses power and as it gets warm it could be a fire risk) - but about 1 in 3 days the connection has dropped by the time I get home from work, or it drops overnight.
I am using a Netgear router that has NO issues before the exchange was 'upgraded'.
(When the connection 'drops' the router shows the internet connection is active but the PPP has failed).
Please BT - un-upgrade the exchange (Bristol BS3) so I can have a reliable usable connection again.

    Hi Peg
    Welcome to the forums.
Can you email us at [email protected] with your account details and a link to this thread. Can run some diagnostics from this end to see why your connection has dropped so much.
    Cheers

  • [SOLVED] WiFi connection drops

    Hey guys,
I'm having some trouble with my WiFi connection lately as it tends to drop the connection every like 2-10 mins.
It is not directly linked to any specific action, it just happens while browsing the web, watching a video or chatting.
It's definitely not hardware related either as I do not have any connection losses when running windows on the same laptop (Dell Latitude E4300).
lspci: 0c:00.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation WiFi Link 5100
    iwconfig: wlan0     IEEE 802.11abgn  ESSID:"****"

              Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:14   Missed beacon:0
Is this some known bug or is anyone else having the same problem? I couldn't find anything specifically similar to my problem on the forums and the rest of the web but maybe you guys know how to fix this?!
    Cheers

You can try out to load the module with
    modprobe iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 swcrypto=1
or, to make it permanent, create a file /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf containing
    #/etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf
    options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1 swcrypto=1
That did it for me (i had the same problems: "wlan0: deauthenticating from 00:11:22:33:44:55 by local choice (reason=3)"). Don't know, if both parameters are needed, wasn't patient enough for testing.
Big maustu! that did the job for me as well.
This problem may be related to iwlwifi and some adsl routers. Everything was ok for me until we changed internet provider. The new provider (Fastweb, italy). placed their own router. Since then, my connection drops every 15 minutes or so and then it hangs. I have to restart network in order to reconnect.
I tried disabling networmanager and connecting with wpa_supplicant and wpa_supplicant.conf and fiddling with the file templates but the problem persisted.
I did pacman -Syu after we got the new router. Just to verify that it is the new router causing the problem I downgraded iwlwifi to previous version and the problem persisted. I didn't bother downgrading the kernel though...
Booting the same pc with another distro that loads iwlagn everything is ok. Another pc with ubuntu that uses iwl3945 is also fine. The problem seems to be just with iwlwifi, my network card and that f...g router which I have not access to.
My network card is Intel WiFi Link 5300.
The logs in case it really is a problem with iwlwifi and someone know how to deal with it.

  • Ath9k random connection drops

    Hi all,
I have an Asus UL80 with an Atheros AR9285 wireless network card. I have managed to get all working but my wireless card has always have problems.
I have trying wicd and netcfg with same results.
When connection drops in dmesg I get
[ 923.259827] ath: Failed to wakeup in 500us

I have tried different things that supposed to work for some users, but I can't get a solution. Those solutions include:
    * blacklisted eth module
    * when I get the drop I have tried:
    rc.d stop wicd
    iwconfig wlan0 power off
    iwconfig wlan0 power on
    rc.d start wicd
    * also I've added nohwcrypt=1 to ath9k module
I have a new Intel wireless card to replace the Atheros one, but the card is not simple accessible and the laptop is somewhat difficult to disassemble completely.
Any suggestions would be really appreciated since I have to reboot the machine frecuenly, and I have been with this issue for several months.

Searching around a bit, this seems to be an old issue that pops up every now and then, not related to the recent ath9k bugs. The only thing that comes to mind is try the latest wireless-compat.
It kinda seems like a power management issue. Try "iwconfig wlan0 power off"
