VLAN assignment without ACS on Cisco Wireless Controller 5508
I was wondering if it is possible to do dynamic VLAN assignment on the Cisco Wireless Controller 5508 without using Cisco ACS but use Microsoft NPS server instead? Is there a manual or article that someone can point me in the right direction?

Any RADIUS server will allow you to do the dynamic vlan assignment if you configure the right RADIUS attributes (64, 65 and 81 that Steve mentioned above).
This doc shows example of dynamic vlan assignment with WLC and ACS.

Same config on WLC is needed. However, on the RADIUS you need to configure the same attributes on the NPS instead.

we have 10 switches 2960 configured with 802.1x authentication against ACS server 4.2.
we have 2 vlans configured on the switches for administrator and endusers. the end user vlan id is 10 and the administartor vlan is is 100.
we need to apply the following scenario, if the enduser PC - that is connected to vlan 10 - has an issue and the administrator will login to the PC with the administrator account to fix that issue, the switch should dynamically reconfigure the port with the administrator vlan ( 100 ) .
is the above scenario doable using dot1x with the ACS server?

MarkWCS doesn't come with your WLC purchase you can down load a trial version of WCS from Cisco site. I think it is a 15 or 30 day trial.
You would have to purchase a license to run a full blown WCS. You can get this in either Linux or Windows.

I have attached show run-config and show running-configFor the public WLAN, what is 10.1.1.1? Is it a real DHCP server, is it a FW? If it's a FW, then you'll need to disable dhcp proxy:
CLI config dhcp proxy disable
GUI Controller > Advanced > DHCp, and uncheck the box for proxy.
As for all of your other SSID, they are all pointd at the management interface. Double check the WLAN config, and point them to the interface you want the user to get an IP address in.

Multiple Wireless Controller 5508 in WCS 7.0
I have two Wireless Controller 5508 that are IDENTICAL in configurations and they will work as an ACTIVE/STANDBY scenario because right now we only have 30 APs, which one of the controller should be fine dealing with them...
Now, the way we used to work was everytime we had to add a new WLAN, or change an ACL, etc..we had to both controllers and do the exact same things, so both would be ready in case of a failure of the MAIN controller....so in order to avoid this extra work, we bought the WCS 7.0, thinking we would only have to do it once, and the WCS would update both WLC...but I cant find that option..Ive read all the configuration guide, and cant find a way to keep this two controller completaly sync......I read something about templates..but I still have to do "extra" work in order to keep them sync..
How do you guys keep your WLC sync??
THanks!Carlos, make sure you also look at config groups. When you place a template into a config group and if you enable the background task for nightly configuration audits you do get a tally of which controllers are "in sync" and which ones are not. Cisco does not automatically apply any configurations from WCS/NCS to controllers, nor would I ever want them to in all honesty.
NCS is a nice product and has a lot in the roadmap that will hopefully add more value to having your switches loaded. I can see in the future being able to have port templates for voice, data, etc, and then applying those to switch ports at a help desk tech level, they don't need to know how to configure the port, they just need to select a port and then a template. -
VLAN assignment from ACS not applied

We have an issue where the VLAN assigned on the ACS isn't applied on the 4402 WLC.
We have 'Allow AAA Override' checked on the WLAN, the QoS is overridden to bronze properly, but the VLAN stays at 0 and the interface at management. The VLAN interface is configured on the WLC.
On the ACS the following are configured for the RADIUS response:

VLAN Assignment of SSID using Cisco AV Pair or Dot1x ?

I am looking to setup wireless access to 2 of my internal VLANs. I am using Cisco 1130AG, PEAP and RADIUS for the authentication as one network is for employees only and one restricted to guests only.
I was wondering which was the most recommended solution.
1. To have 2 SSIDs, with one in each VLAN with the access restricted using the Cisco AV Pair attribute in RADIUS
or
2. Use one SSID and use Dot1x and the Tunnel attribute to assign the VLAN?
This option I feel is more complicated and I am still unsure how this works in reality as the SSID itself can only be part of one VLAN????
Do I have to configure a Dot11Radio and Fastethernet interface for each intended vlan in this case?
Could someone please explain and suggest their preferred option.
Thanks.You should have two ssid's one for your internal and one for guest. You should use 802.1x for your internal and your guest should be open with a Login page of some sort. You can still use dynamic vlan assignments so that your internal users who try to access the guest page will be put on the internal vlan. Of course the guest will always be placed on the guest vlan. If you have a WLC, the login page and setup is easier, because in autonomous you will have to use something like ZoneCD for guest if you want a HotSpot type wifi.

I have question about syslog on wireless controller. I need to know what is information in the syslog from controller. I had read paper in the community some siad it has not much in the syslog but it has not detial what is the information in the syslog sent. I know that almost information such as client, authentication, and much benefit logging in the SNMP. So, anyone have any idea or information please give me the idea or information.

VYou just need to setup the sylog and try different logging levels to see if it gives you the information you need. YOu might not get what you want or if you find a syslog level that gives you the info you want, you might get a lot of stuff you don't want to see.

On Catalyst switches one can save the running config with SNMP by using the CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB.
Is there an equivalent way of doing this on a 5508 Wireless Controller ?

Not best practice. Segmentation is up to how you want to do it for the most part
With my current Wireless Controllers is it possible to segment the wireless network by building into seperate networks (vlans) but still allow clients to connect to the (mmg_wireless) ssid and roam throughout the campus without mobility and roaming issues?
yes, you could use AP groups and do a subnet per building. the traffic will still backhaul to the WLC then to the core. So if the latency is the fiber between the buildings you would still have an issue. you could also use FlexConnect, but would need to know more on how the application is supposed to work to answer that better

IMHO, I think the AP should be in their own VLAN, and the WLC can live in the 'server' vlan if you want.
Is there a maximum recommended number of ap's that should be on a controller at any given moment? I currently have 200 ap's on one controller.
with 672 clients currently conencted to them. (360 of them are connected to the mmg_wireless ssid) .
how many ports are you using to connect to teh 6509? if you are using all 8 ports you should be fine.

Wireless Controller 5508 dropping MAC Addresses
Our 5508 Wireless Controller will drop MAC addresses clean out of the system. Addresses that are in use everyday just disappear. It is not a limitation issue because we are adding iPads everyday. And it is not a daily occurance, but maybe once or twice a week. Has anyone come accross this issue? Everything has been updated and it is more of a hassle than anything, I am just trying to understand what is happening.

With Cisco equipment wlc 2500 and AP 1600 combines windows 2008 r2 domain controller to achieve the following purposes,
1, all cell phones and laptops can access the wireless network with a domain user authentication.
2, the guest network should how to do it?

Mobile users cnnewcity_mobile: Use webportal certification, so the center certification, local forwarding
Computer users cnnewcity_wifi: transparent certification, local forwarding, local authentication
The basic steps are as follows:
1, set the Radius server clients (AP or controller)
2, locking authorization group --- this should be based on the domain user group authorization radius server
3, the mobile roaming - different locations on the DHCP server choose to do this you have to consider the next 43
4, the establishment of a two vlan to a mobile user to the computer user, create a DCHP scope on the DHCP

Wireless Network is slow after putting cisco wireless controller
Hello Guys,
My wireless network was very good before putting Cisco WLC 4402 with version 3.2.171.6.
In my network there are two SSID's one for official and another for guest, which is working one single LAP 1142.( Total 12 LWAP is here)
we decided to manage all the ap and deployed WLC but now wireless network is very slow, local gateways is pinging with 80 ms. before WLC it was 1 ms.
Pls. suggest or come up with question to reach a solution.
