VLAN between two Cisco 300 switches

Is it possible to share a VLAN between two Cisco 300 series switches?

Make sure that your port 27 is NOT configured as an access port - it should be a trunk (that's the default). I believe the setting is under VLAN Management > Interface settings.
Also ensure you are setup to tag frames (under the "Port to VLAN" settings).

  • Trunk config between two 6500 cat switches

    Hi All,
    What is the recommended trunk configuration between 2 cisco 6500 switches including hsrp scenario.
    Thanks

    Hi Samir,
    In almost all scenarios, its recommended to have 'dot1q' encapsulation and a static trunk config 'switchport mode trunk'. Matching the native VLAN on both sides is required and will be VLAN1 by default.
    When configuring trunks, you should be mindful of VTP, trunk and STP states. Reviewing the following for mismatches between your Cat6K will help:
    - show vtp status
    - show interfaces trunk
    - show spanning-tree
    In terms of HSRP, it is also recommended to run HSRP active in the same location as STP Root to avoid any asynchronous routing problems.

  • Creating VLAN on our Cisco 300 series router

    I am wanting to create separate VLANs on our Cisco 300 series switches, but I am struggling to find any decent examples out there.
    Our basic infrastructure is
    Router with
    192.168.1.1 VLAN1
    192.168.2.1 VLAN2
    The switch is set up on ports 2345 for VLAN2
    Port 1 is attached to the router on VLAN1 and VLAN2 assigned.
    My problems seem to be that I really not sure what settings I should be using for each the ports to get this to work correctly

    Hi,
    Hope below link will have the information which you are looking for.

    According to your above description you have connected the router to port 1 of switch and you have configured it as vlan 1...Should this port be trunk???

  • Absolute time between two sets of switches

    Hi!
    I am trying to write a VI that will find the time difference between two sets of switches. I have attached what I currently have which only gets the time for one set of switches.
    What I am trying to include in my VI includes inputing data from two different ports and finding the resulting time difference. The two sets of switches go into different ports on the usb. The starting switches are in port 2 whereas the stoping switches are in port 1. Switch one from the first set should start the timer and switch one from the second set should stop the timer. And this logic continues for the remaining sets. Switch 2 from the first set starts the time and switch 2 from the second set stops the timer...All six switches are completely independant so they can stop in any order.
    I was also wondering how to just have the absolute time from start to stop in hrs/min/sec? And then how to I write the resulting 6 times in hrs/min/sec to a spreadsheet?
    Thanks so much for your help! I apologize for my simple questions! I am new to labview and computer programming in general.

    end
    This config assumes only ports f0/1 - f0/4 will be used on each switch. If that is not the case, you will need to modify the interface configs accordingly. You may want to use descriptions more suited than to your network on the switchports. Also, this config assumes the router is connected to port f0/24 on each switch as well.
    The default-gateway for the hosts and the switches is going to be the router IP address for the subnet they are attached to. The hosts/switches attached to f0/0 use 192.168.10.65 as their gateway. The hosts/switches attached to f0/1 use 192.168.10.129 as their gateway.
    You do not need to configure a port on the switch as the default-gateway. The default-gateway is an IP address the host/switch uses to direct all traffic from itself out past the router. In fact, if you don't need the switch to talk to devices on the other subnet, you don't even need to configure a default-gateway on the switches (but I would anyway).

  • VLAN between SFE2000P switches

    Dear friends,
    I've connected two sites with the following configuration:
    Site 1:
    Stack Linksys SFE2000P - Firmware version 1.0.0.X
    Port 1/g3 connected to a FO link to site 2
    Oficina 2:
    Stack Linksys SFE2000P - Firmware version 3.0.0.X
    Port 1/g3 connected to a FO link to site1
    I've tried to create a VLAN to communicate only a few ports of both sites:
    4/e23 y 4/e24 of site 1
    7/e23 y 7/e24 of site 2
    To do this, I tried the following:
    Port 1/g3 (site1) -> VLAN 50 (tagged) - Trunk
    Port 1/g3 (site 2) -> VLAN 50 (tagged) - Trunk
    Port 4/e23 y 4/e24 (site1) -> VLAN 50 (untagged)
    Port 7/e23 y 7/e24 (site 2) -> VLAN 50 (untagged)
    It doesn't work!!!. In the same stack of each site it works without problems. Could you help me??? There is some misconfiguration???
    I've stablished other VLANs between Linksys and 3Com Switches, but now it doesn't work at all.
    Thanks in advance!

    I Did find a same article on this forum. Maybe this would help you. an article coming from GV.
    * access mode: an access mode port connects to a normal device like a desktop, printer, or similar. An access mode port can be member of a single VLAN only, i.e. you have to decide to which VLAN it is supposed to belong to. In your case, you configure an access mode port for either VLAN 10 or VLAN 20.
    With a single switch things are clear now: some ports are VLAN 10 and some ports are VLAN 20. VLAN 10 can talk to each other. VLAN 20 can talk to each other. No traffic passes between VLAN 10 and VLAN 20.
    Of course, now you want to connect this switch to some other network devices, in particular the second SRW because you need additional ports or you have an additional location. And there is the ASA which provides internet access for these VLANs.
    * trunk mode: This is where trunk mode comes in. A trunk mode port can carry multiple VLANs on a single port. This is done using 802.1q tags. 802.1q tagged ethernet frames have an additional field for the VLAN to which the frame belongs to. With this, a switch can send frames for VLAN 10 and VLAN 20 through a single port to another switch or router. Each frame sent is tagged with 10 or 20 depending on which VLAN the frame belongs to. The receiver will accept each frame and assign it to the corresponding VLAN on the receiving side. This way the receiving switch or router is able to keep those VLANs strictly separated.
    So let's say you want two VLANs 10 & 20 in your network. You would create VLANs 10 & 20 on your ASA and both SRWs. (Create only means that the device knows this VLAN exists and is able to handle traffic for this VLAN). You would configure LAN port 1 of your ASA as trunk with members VLAN 10 & 20. You configure port 1 & 24 of your first SRW in trunk mode with members VLAN 10 & 20. You configure port 1 of your second SRW in trunk mode with members VLAN 10 & 20. Now you wire port 1 of your ASA to port 1 of your first SRW. Then you wire port 24 of your first SRW to port 1 of your second SRW.
    This creates the VLAN trunk through your network. Traffic in both VLANs can travel through this trunk between the switches and to the ASA and from there, if properly routed, into the internet.
    here is the Link
    As the SFE2000P is now part of Cisco Small Business I would recommend you ask your question in the Cisco Small Business Support Community. There are a few Cisco people over there which maybe able to reproduce your problem in a lab environment and check with the developers...

  • Cisco 300 - VLAN DHCP packets not passing

    I am seeing a problem with our Cisco 300 switches. We use these switches as access switches, with a stacked 3750-G at the core, two 2960-S at the distribution layer, and about 10 300 Series switches at the access layer (10 port and 28 ports, all PoE).
    We use Voice VLAN (VLAN 14) for our Mitel phones – there is a DHCP server on the Mitel system. Phones come up, get tagged VLAN 14 (LLDP), Traffic flows (including Broadcast for DHCP etc…). The system works, and has worked for months.
    One day, suddenly, I find that all the Mitel phones on a particular access switch are not working. I look on the Mitel system and the lease on DHCP has expired, and the phone is stuck on renewing its DHCP IP address. I run port mirroring on the switch for VLAN 14 to see what is happening. The phones are stuck on DHCP discover, and I see the DHCP Discover broadcast packets on the switch but nothing else, no DHCP offer packets – hence the phone stuck at boot cycle.
    I then do a port mirror from another access switch (that is currently working) – I can see the broadcast packets from the Mitel phones on the broken switch, but on this switch I can also see the DHCP offer packets from the Mitel system. I run two port mirrors simultaneous from the two switches (one working, one not) and I can see that the DHCP offer packets are not coming through to the broken switch. Panic ensues – I look at the distribution layer and there is no problem what so ever.
    For some strange reason, the Cisco 300 28 port has stopped passing DHCP broadcast packets on a particular VLAN, even though they are being sent. I power cycle the switch – and hey presto, DHCP offer packets are coming through, and the phones get an IP address and boot properly.
    I wipe the sweat off my brow, note the issue down and carry on my daily duties.
    Forward a couple of weeks later, and to today. I have another phone that is showing the same symptoms, luckily it is the only phone on this particular Cisco 300 28 port. The same issue is occurring as described above. I gather as much diagnostic information I can then reboot the switch – but still no joy. I then remember that this switch is not directly attached to the distribution layer and instead gets trunked to another Cisco 300 28 port. I give that a reboot and 5 minutes later, DHCP broadcast offers are passing and the phone boots.
    I am listing this problem as not just a ‘one off’ now, and is recurring. It has happened to two of my 300 28 port switches.
    All Switches running 1.1.2.0.
    No link to up time – first instance of the problem, switch was up for 14 days – second instance (another switch) uptime of 39 days
    LLDP is working fine on the switches, as is Voice-VLAN (Port is tagged and broadcasts out DHCP Discover which is seen by other devices throughout network)
    Nothing in the log file on the access switch
    Nothing on the Dist/Core regarding STP – Spanning tree set up is fine throughout
    Has anyone else experienced same? I’m hoping this is a bug that is getting fixed.
    Many Thanks
    Tim

    Hello Tim
    Brayton Hackworth had a similar post as yours, found here;
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/message/3684179#3684179
    Brayton is using the Mitel 5330 phones where the LLDP no longer fed VLAN information to the phone network. But, he reverted to use a DHCP server to provide the VLAN information.
    Unfortunately, I (personally) cannot test any Mitel resources (since I don't have them) so my labs usually only consist of either 7900 series or SPA500/900 series phones.
    The best thing I can really recommend to you is to make a package of data consisting of;
    Topology which consists of;
    Modem type
    Router including IP
    All devices including IP of switches
    Servers / relevant workstations
    # of attached devices and # of users on the LAN
    Switch config file + show tech on a notepad
    Syslog output from the switch
    Working PCAP
    PCAP showing failure
    PCAP legend showing what IP address are who (unless topology contains all IP)
    Where the PCAP is taken from and method
    We then can create a service request for you and pass it for review.

  • Etherchannel two cisco 3750 stacks for iscsi?

    I have two sites connected by 96 strands of fibre. At each site I have an IBMv7000 relicating to the other one. For iSCSI traffic I have two Cisco 3750 switches, each are in 2 switch stack.
    SAN A                         Fibre Link                          SAN B
            |                                                                        |
    Cisco Stack A =========================Cisco Stack B
            |                                                                        |
            |                                                                        |
    iSCSI Clients                                                       iSCSI Clients
    My question: Is it ok to connect the the two stacks with etherchannel using the fibre links? Will is provide the necessary redundancy, if one of the interfaces goes down?

    What model numbers of 3750 are you using?
    What is the distance between the stacks as this will dictate your fiber run modules.

  • Connecting two untagged VLANS from two different switches

    I have a Cisco SG300-52P Small Business switch and hopefully I can explain well what's going on. We have a Juniper EX4200 L3 switch that has a bunch of our corporate VLANs (they are routed VLANs) and that allows communication between all of our corporate networks. We have several other L2 Netgear, HP Procurve, etc... on which we have split the ports down the middle and divided them into two broadcast domains by setting them as untagged VLANs. One cable goes from each of the different VLANs on the L2 switches into different VLANs on the L3 switch. As long as STP is disabled this seems to work fine. However, we tried this same scenario on this Cisco Small Business switch and only one of the two untagged VLANs on the Cisco will pass traffic at a time. I believe that whenever the VLAN that is on the default (VLAN 1) is plugged in, the other (the one we created) shuts down but when VLAN 1 is unplugged, the other VLAN immediately starts to work. What seems weird is that the Cisco seems to learn the Juniper's MAC on the VLAN that doesn't work and the Juniper learns the MAC on the one that does work. In other words, the Juniper does not learn the Cisco's MAC on both of the VLANs that the Cisco is plugged into, as it does with the other L2 switches that we have, and the Cisco does not learn the MACs of the Juniper on both of its VLANs. I hope this is making sense and please let me know if there is any way I can further clarify. I'm sure I'm just doing something dumb that I'm overlooking so feel free to slap me in the face. :-)
    Thank you in advance for your time!

    It sounds like there is a layer 2 loop in your network if spanning tree is shutting down the ports.  You should be able to do a show spanning-tree on the switch, or look in spanning tree rstp interface status.
    are there any other interconnects between devices?  Like un-managed hubs, WAPs with bridging, virtual servers with multiple NIC cards?
    Show spanning tree on each device might show what is going on, or at least tell you which ports are root ports, which ones are forwarding or blocking.  Best practice is to configure your spanning tree if you have more than 1 or 2 switches.
    A detail topology showing port numbers, (sanitized) IP addresses, vlans and purpose, trunks with what vlans are tagged, and  untagged .
    from your description,  your network looks like
    multiple vlans - layer 3 Juniper swtich - netgearS1 vlan`1 --procurveS2 vlan 1 -- ciscoS3 vlan1
                                                           \-- netgearS1 vlan2 - - procurveS2 vlan --  ciscoS3 vlan 2
    I'm having trouble visiualizing <<One cable goes from each of the different VLANs on the L2 switches into different VLANs on the L3 switch. >>
    are the cables for vlan 1 going to vlan 1 or are the cables for vlan1 going to a different vlan on the other switch?
    Can you reduce the complexity and number of interconnects by using trunking?
    What are the IPs and default gateway of all devices, L3 switch?
    These switches do STP, RSTP and multiple spanning tree, but will not do per vlan spanning tree.  so there may be some configuration required on all switches to get the correct root bridge (the Juniper I assume)

  • Etherchannel trunk with two cisco switch

    Hi, my company using only one Cisco 3750 switch with VLAN1,2,3,4,5.
    Now my company bought another cisco switch and we would like to etherchannel trunk between both and create new VLAN in new switch.  We look over from partner, some of them suggested we use LACP, and some of them suggest we use PAgP.  We are so confuse which will be better in our environment.
    Previous: Router <> 3750 switch A (VLAN 1,2,3,4,5)
    Now we bought another Cisco Switch B:  Router <>3750 switch A <> switch B (add more VLAN 6,7,8,9,10)
    Which of below command is the best choice to suit our company ? suppose we use 2 port of gigabitethernet 1/0/1 and 1/0/2 trunk?  All VLAN 1-10 need to communicate with each other.
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/1
     channel-group 1 mode active  <<< (use "active" or "desirable" is the best choice)
     switchport mode trunk
    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/2
     channel-group 1 mode active
     switchport mode trunk
    interface Port-channel 1
     switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q << (do we need put this? as we think this is by default after trunk?)
     switchport mode trunk
     switchport nonegotiate <<< (do we need "nonegotiate" if both switch setup same configure?)

    Hello
    My understanding is pagp and lacp basically perform the same features - however as PAGP is cisco propriety LACP is IEEE standard which can be used between different route/switch vendor platforms.
    As for disabling DTP ( switchport nonegotiate) - i would agree to do this suggestion, As so not to  have trunks being dynamically created.
    Lastly i would manually prune unused vlans across trunk interfaces, to save on cpu and memory usage because of the stp instances that coild be used ( however such a small vlan database  like yours would not be an issue)
    So to summarise:
    Cisco to Cisco ehterchannels =PAGP
    Cisco to other vendors = LACP
    L2 etherchannel
    ================
    1) default physical interfaces (if possible)
    2) configure port-channel in physical interfaces
    -- port-channel will be created automatically
    3)create trunking encapsulation or access port mode directly in port-channel interface
    4)enable physical interfaces "no shut"
    conf t
    default int ran fa0/1 -3 ( if applicable)
    int ran fa0/1 -3
    shut ( if applicable)
    channel-group 1 mode xxx
    int port-channel 1
    switchport trunk encap dot1q
    switchport- mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1-10

  • Etherchannel between two 2950 switches

    I have a etherchannel defined between 2 L2 switches using LACP as shown below. The etherchannel works fine, however when I hard code speed/duplex on both ends the etherchannel fails. What is causing this behaviour?

    channel-group 5 mode active

    interface GigabitEthernet1/0/2
    switchport mode trunk
    channel-group 5 mode active

    Thank you for the rating.
    Regarding your replacement scenario, I'll give the standard engineering answer ("it depends"), but actually follow up with something I hope is more helpful.    I'm sincerely interested to see other's viewpoint on this as well, as it has changed over the years.
    Many years ago (let's say a decade) I ran into problems with some devices not being able to auto-negotiate properly.  There was a tendancy for devices to fail or negotiate to half-duplex mode when a full-duplex connection was warranted.  At the time, the problems we experienced were mainly with traffic shaping devices and some other gear.  There were others using fixed settings as a standard practice, and we did the same since we had verifiable issues.
    Fast forward to now.  I personally have not experienced auto-negotiation problems in a long time and am reading more from others in the field that auto-negotiation is the way to go (such as from the link provided).  Indeed, I've now run into the opposite scenario: I had a particular situation where a link between two devices defaulted to half-duplex EVEN THOUGH they were both set to 100/Full.  It turned out to be a race condition between a device and a Cisco router...the other device booted faster, didn't see anything on the link, and "helpfully" dropped down to half-duplex.  I confirmed the issue with the device vendor, who recommended setting ports to auto-negotiate as the fix (their software would not be updated for a bit of time).
    I would recommend auto-negotiate as a standard practice, with the exception of areas where you have encountered specific problems.  Those latter cases should be caught through your pre-deployment testing, and discussed with the respective vendors so that you fully understand why the devices are behaving the way they are so that the proper mitigation measures can be put in place (i.e. - It is going to act the same way every time, and you can work with that).
    Good luck!  -Ed

  • How do I quickly* switch between two Skype account...

    I have a need to be able to quickly* switch between two Skype accounts on my Windows 7 desktop computer.
    Both accounts have high-security difficult-to-remember and hard-to-type passwords.
    Many products have a facility for doing this, remembering recent account/password combinations, or having linked accounts.
    Does Skype have a way of doing this?
    And if it doesn't, how do I request it get one be developed?
    I use a password manager, LastPass, but of course Skype isn't a browser so it doesn't work with Lastpass.
    * "Quickly switch" means without switching computer sign-on accounts and without re-typing the high-security difficult-to-remember and hard-to-type passwords many times per day.

    Kiran,
      Use the web api reset_data_provider as links or in select option in HTML.
       Onchange event of this select option should call JAVASCRIPT method and
       this in turn resets the current dataprovider to your concerned one.

             <param name="OWNER" value="SAP_BW"/>
             <param name="CMD" value="GET_ITEM"/>
             <param name="NAME" value="CHART_1"/>
             <param name="ITEM_CLASS" value="CL_RSR_WWW_ITEM_CHART"/>
             <param name="DATA_PROVIDER" value="DATAPROVIDER_1"/>
             <param name="TMP_CHART_DATA_HANDLE" value="IIP_49MOXB0UVNOMM6JOZMZU7QO21"/>
             ITEM:            CHART_1
       </object>
      So if you change the DATAPROVIDER_1 using RESET_DATA_PROVIDER to your concerned DP, this changes chart as well !!
       Please use this method and refer to sample code for Onchange Event on SELECT OPTION:
      <HTML>
    <HEAD>
    <script>
    function callDP() {
         if(document.forms[0].dp.value == "1") {
            //form your URL here..
           url = SAP_BW_URL_Get() + "&CMD=RESET_DATA_PROVIDER&DATA_PROVIDER_1=..&...";
            SAPBWOpenURL(url);
            //or docuemtn.location.href = url..
            //etc..
    </script>
    </HEAD>
    <BODY>
    <form>
    <select name="dp" onChange="javascript:callDP();">
    <option value="1">1</option>
    <option value="2">2</option>
    </select>
    </form>
    </BODY>
    </HTML>
    HOPE THIS HELPS !!!
