VLAN on bridged wireless

I have two wireless bridge 1410s to connect two building A and B
building A (Bridge1)
management VLAN100, 192.168.100/24
building B (bridge2)
management VLAN200, 192.168.200/24
I plan to setup VLAN10 for the bridge AP, so VLAN10 at Building A, IP will be 192.168.10.1/?? (can this mask be 30?), VLAN10 at building B, 192.168.10.2/??
so my question
can bridge1 has only one management IP from 192.168.100/24 in same time doing bridge for VLAN10? can bridge2 has only one managmenet IP from 192.168.200/24 in same time doing bridge for VLAN10? if not, do I have to assign management IP for both bridge in 192.168.10.0 network? so the mask can be /29 to support 6 IPs, one ip for VLAN10 at building A, one ip for VLAN10 at building B, one IP for bridge1, one IP for bridge2?
my intention to assign one management IP from local management VLAN, so this IP is local significant, and AP just doing a pure bridge for VLAN10, and AP doesn't have any IP over this VLAN10
thanks

thanks for your reply, i did not quite get your answer yet, and that is why i tried to put more details on more original question
so for my case, can bridge1 being part of management VLAN of building A? and bridge2 part of managemenet VLAN of buildingB? so they don't share same common managemenet vlan
if they can not, meant i need create a common vlan 10, i guess i need /29 mask to support enough IP addr, right?

  • Voice vlan priority across wireless bridge network

    Hello,
If you have a separate voice vlan across a wireless bridged network, how could you configure qos to put the entire voice vlan in priority over the data vlan ?
    Thanks.

    Hi Antonis,
    Have a look at these docs. Hopefully they will help get you started;
Cisco Aironet 1300 Series Outdoor Access Point/Bridge Software Configuration Guide, 12.3(4) JA
    Chapter 14 - Configuring QoS
This chapter describes how to configure quality of service (QoS) on your access point/bridge. With this feature, you can provide preferential treatment to certain traffic at the expense of others. Without QoS, the access point/bridge offers best-effort service to each packet, regardless of the packet contents or size. It sends the packets without any assurance of reliability, delay bounds, or throughput.
    From this doc;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps5861/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00804158a6.html
    Giving Priority to Voice Traffic
This section demonstrates how you can apply a QoS policy to your wireless network's voice VLAN to give priority to wireless phone traffic.
In this example, the network administrator creates a policy named voice_policy that applies voice class of service to traffic from Spectralink phones (protocol 119 packets). The user applies the voice_policy to the incoming and outgoing radio ports and to the outgoing Ethernet port for VLAN 77.
Use the Apply Policies to Interface/VLANs drop-down menus to apply policies to the access point Ethernet and radio ports. If VLANs are configured on the access point, drop-down menus for each VLANs' virtual ports appear in this section. If VLANs are not configured on the access point, drop-down menus for each interface appear.

  • Bridging wireless AP - bridge-utils

    Hi there,
    Situation:
    1. Free AP next to my home, signal weak, not everywhere accessable.
    2. Laptop with wireless interface + Wireless USB-Dongle (good antenna, extended range) + Siemens SE361 WLAN Router
    3. I connect with my USB-Dongle to the Free AP, I have set a wireless network with SE361 and connect to it with the internal wireless card of my laptop
This so far worked, but now I want to have internet access at the SE361-Network and I think I need to bridge both networks. I tried with bridge-utils but brctl addbr <mybridge> <mywlanif> gives me an error (can't add wlan0 to bridge br0: Operation not supported) so I think I can only bridge ethernet networks with it (adding eth0 instead of wlan0 works).
On google I only found stuff about a hardware bridge or how to bridge ethernet networks.
Now I need some help how I can get this working, cau you help me please?
Is bridging even the right thing to do in this case or can I forward the internetconection somehow else?

Here is a simple config example
    Root                                                                           Non-Root
R(config)#dot11 ssid test                             n-R(config)#dot11 ssid test
                    #authentication open                    n-R(config)#authentication open
                   #infrastructure-ssid                       n-R(config)#infrastructure-ssid
                   #exit                                                                  #exit
    R(config)#int d0                                          n-R(config)#int d0
                   # ssid test                                                  #ssid test
                    #statio-role root bridge wireless-client          #station-role non-root bridge wireless-client
                    #no shut                                                   #no shut
For BVI interfaces you can assign either static or dynamic IP address
But it is highly recommended to have static ip for better management.

Make sure to double checlk the cables connecting the Antennas to your Bridges if you have -R version of the 1310 bridges.
Your issue is very simple , non-root cannot detect the presence of the root ( no 802.11 frames advertising the same configured SSID ) --> Accordingly keeps scanning indefintely on all the channels of a certain band.
When selecting the channel on root make sure that it is clean as well on the non-root side to allow the non-root to connect properly wihtout having the info sent by root distorted due to noise , interference or any other RF impairments on certain channel. So you can run the carrier busy test many times on both sites and select the clarest channel to proceed with after making sure that everything else such LOS, HW status ......etc is ok.

  • Making a vlan for all wireless devices on network

    Hello,
We connected 4 wireless access points (AP541N-E-K9) to an SG300-10P switch.
We want to be sure that no wireless clients can alter settings to the network by connecting to any of the networking devices. We also want that no wireless devices (except a few) can connect to computers that are on the wired network.
I'm new to configuring networking devices so I would appreciate a step by step guidance to set up the switch for this.
We already added all the MAC-adresses of all the wireless devices (that are allowed to use the wireless network) to the access points.
    Thanks already for your reply.

  • Setting up VLAN's for wireless AP's with two SSID's

I am trying to setup a RV180 and 3 wireless access points. I want the AP's to have 2 ssids that are isolated from each other. IE guest network and main network. I have setup VLAN's and my AP's support 802.1q and have ssid's with matching VID's. I was able to get this to work basically, but things seem to have gotten confusing when I plug the AP's into a POE switch instead of directly into the rv180. At this point I'm not sure exactly waht to ask. Maybe start by providing basic info on how I'm supposed to do this. I was under the impression that since both devices support 802.1q I could configure the VLANs on the router, and tell the AP's to apply a VID to the SSID and thing would work. This isn't the case unfortunately. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Aaron, if you connect a computer to a switch port you making it the untagged member of the desired vlan. The uplink between the router and switch take care of traffic passing.
    So for example-
    Ap 1 = vlan 1 and 2
    Ap 2 = Vlan 3 and 4
    Ap 3 = Vlan 5-6
    Guest comptuer = vlan 7
Router trunk is vlan 1u, 2-7t (with intervlan routing enable/disable as desired)
Switch trunk is the same 1u, 2-7t
    Ap 1 trunk is 1u2t
    Ap 2 trunk is 3u, 4t
    Ap 3 trunk is 5u 6t
    Guest computer is access 7u

  • Bridging wireless and wired network interfaces

    Hi,
Is it possible to "bridge" the airport and ethernet network interfaces on a macbook pro using Leopard (10.5.7) ? I do not mean Internet connection sharing. That results in NAT.
I recently got a desktop in my room which doesn't have a WiFi interface. I wish to connect its wired interfaced to my mbp's wired interface and give it access to the wireless network my mbp is on. To do this I would need to bridge the wireless and wired interfaces on my mbp. All the results I find online to do this only talk about Internet Connection Sharing ..
    thanks,
    regards,
    Puneet

You can turn on IP Forwarding to achieve most of what you're after:
    sudo sysctl -w net.inet.ip.forwarding=1
This will have the Mac forward packets from one interface to the other without NAT.
However you still need to use separate subnets, and may need to play with routing to get everyone to talk to each other.

  • Bridged Wireless Blocks TCP Port 9100?

On one of my networked computers, HP "Solutions Center" driver says HP 6310xi networked printer is connected, shows detail status & will print the HP diagnostic report direct to printer. Windows 7 shows printer on network map, & gives detailed status & setup info from printer internal data via IE through printer's IP address page (192.168.1.100); i.e. I can ping it. However, Win 7 printer control panel shows printer as "offline" on printers list & just ques up print requests. Troubleshooting gives error message "turn power on printer". Other networked PCs print OK. Bad computer is on a separate subnet of my home network, with a LinkSys wireless bridge WET610n connection, & printer is on another wireless LinkSys WET610n subnet. My network is totally LinkSys N, with a WRT 610n as main hub. All other network functions work for all other devices on the network, including DirecTV DVR receivers & Wii console!! I have moved the printer to the other subnet, & the problem is now mirrored by the computer on the remote subnet. It is not a firewall problem, but appears that the variables are the 2 wireless bridges that seem to conspire to block TCP port 9100 when in series. A single WET610n between the printer & a computer allows printing, proven by my roaming wireless laptop having access through the WET610n via the central wireless router. Very stange!! CTH

If I understand correctly, you have a Linksys WRT610N as your main wireless-router with two satellite Linksys WET610N configured as Ethernet bridges -- right?
    You also have this setup:
    Win7 PC -> WET610N -> WRT610N -> WET610N -> Officejet 6310
If I got this right, then the issue is probably the transit delay between the Win7 PC and the Officejet confusing HP's Solution Center.
I think you have two options:
    1) Connect the Win7 PC directly to the WRT610N or connect the Officejet 6310 directly to the WRT610
    2) Manually install the printer.
    Let's try a manual installation:
    1. Click >> Start >> Control panel >> Printers.
    3. Click the Add a printer
    3. Select Local printer
    4. Select Create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port and click Next button.
    5. Under Device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under Hostname or IP address, enter the printer's host name (found on the printer's network configuration report the generated above). Click Next.
If you get a message about Additional Port Information Required, then the printer was not found using the host name. You can go back and retry or using the printer's IP address instead of the host name.
    6. Select Hewlett-Packard from the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.
If your printer model was not listed, then select Have Disk, browse the HP CD that came with your printer and select the first file that starts with hp and ends with inf. Click Open then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.
    7. If you are asked, use the currently installed driver.
    8. It will ask for the Printer name -- enter a new name or use the existing one. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
    9. You may be asked to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
    10. The Print Test Page box appears. Go ahead and print it.
    11. Click Finish.
    That should be it.

  • VLANs over bridges to an AP

I have my wired network (w/DHCP and vlan scopes). Attached to the wired network is a 1400 series bridge1 connecting to another 1400 bridge2 (via 802.11a). Bridge 2 connects to a 1200 Access point via a straight ethernet connection. I want to use VLANs on the access point. I configured the trunk between the wired network and Bridge1. I configured the VLANs and SSIDs on the AP, but I’m unable to get an ip address when connecting to vlan2/ssid (vlan 1 is the native vlan and works fine). Any suggestions?

  • Time Capsule Bridge Wireless to Ethernet?

    Hello,
I currently use my TC to wirelessly join a network -- it is not connected via ethernet to anything.
I'd like to use the ethernet ports on my TC as a wireless bridge, taking the wireless signal TC gets from joining a network and extending it to ethernet clients that don't have Airport cards.
This doesn't seem possible -- is there a way to do it? The "Bridge mode" seems to only work in WDS mode -- which I don't think is what I want. Does anybody know if this is possible?
Again, I do not want ethernet to wireless bridge, but the opposite, using my time capsule to join wifi, and then share it to any computer connected to TC's ethernet ports.
    Help

Hello Little Rage. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
Sorry, but what you are proposing will not work. You will need to either connect the TC to the other router by Ethernet or create a WDS between the two in order to enable the TC's LAN ports.

  • Vlan in the wireless lan

    Hi to all,
if i create 2 vlan and i configure 2 ssid one for each vlan, this two vlan are created only for the wireless interface? Or i need to reconfigure all the lan equipment for this 2 vlan?
If i configure 2 vlan and the relative ssid i need two bvi interface configured with two different ip-address or i can use only one bvi with one ip address?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Carlo S.

The vlans are not only created for the wireless interface but also for the ethernet. Then the ethernet interface has to be connected with a switch that supports vlans. After that, it's up to you to do whatever you want with the vlans you created.
You don't need 2 BVI IPs. You only need one to be able to manage the AP

  • Bridging Wirelessly from Westell 9100EM to Netgear WRG614 - Possible?

    HI Guys,
I have FIOS internet and TV,
I want to use my NetGear WRG 614 to create a seperate network at the bottom of the apartment, so that i can run my servers down there. The Westell is in the living room, and the servers are loud so i can't hook them up there.
Can i create a bridge so that the  WRG614 and Westell would operate wirelessly on the same network ?
    If not, any other suggestions?

Well, that particular unit has a wireless bridge mode on it, but I believe you would need to set it up to work with another Netgear device.   Here are a couple of approaches that I would consider using ...
    1. Ethernet cable -- run and ethernet cable from one of the LAN interfaces on the WRG614 to one of the LAN interfaces on the Westell, disable the DHCP server on the WRG614, and make sure the IP address of the interface on the WRG614 is on the same subnet but different than the router (192.168.1.254 suggested).
    2. Coax - Similar to option one, if you are cabled to the Westell via Coax from the ONT, you could bridge via the MoCA cable network.  You need a piece of Coax which is on the same house wiring as the rest of your network for FiOS TV (assuming you have FiOS TV here) at the location where the WRG814 is located.   Purchase a MoCA adapter (such as the ActionTec HME2200) for around $80.  This takes Coax in one side and ethernet in the other.  Plug the ethernet into a LAN port on the WRG614 (same disable of DHCP and address considertations) and the Coax into the Coax.   It will automatically pair up with the Westell and bridge itself onto the LAN network.
    3. Wireless Bridge - Purchase a wireless bridge/print server -- Netgear used to make the WGPS606 wireless print server that was really good for this as did BuffaloTech (until that got sued for a patent infringement).   It has a 4-port switch in it to which you can connect systems.   You then configure the device and it will connect wirelessly to your wireless network on your Westell.
You WRG814 may act like the bridge in option #3, but in looking at the documentation, it didn't appear that it contained all the functionality needed -- but if it were going to work, the wireless client bridge -- where you have to enter in the Mac address of the parent router (being the Westell's wireless interface) is the one you would use.
Oh ... and before someone adds it ... there are "Power Line" bridges as well that you can use.   These are a bit more finicky and subject to line noise thru degraded connectivity speeds, but another option as well for connecting the two networks together.

  • Trunking VLAN's over wireless?

    Hi,
Is it possible to trunk the wireless connection so that we can put VLAN over the trunk. The VLAN's must be separated so on device in the VLAN 2 may not communicate to the VLAN 5 and vice versa.
    Thx,
    Marc

Hi, I tought Aironet 1200 and 1100 can do multiple SSID with 1 Vlan per SSID?
I'm trying to connect AP 1200 to 2950-34 in trunk mode with Cat 6506 as the L3 switch in the backbone. I realized that in the trunk mode my laptop can only access 1 IP address. Is this due to long time for convergence due to VLAN and VTP or is it just plain wrong?
    Thanks,
Any input is appreciated & please cc to [email protected] .

  • Help! Bridge wireless intermittent

    I installed two br350.
Every 18 minutes (circa) the link go down.
Log from non-root "Lost authentication with parent"
then "Deauthenticating [root bridge], reason "not autenticated"
    then "Associated to Parent"
This loop go away for 7-10 times, then the link go up for other 18 minutes, then the loop start again.
    please help me, thanks.
PS Excuse me for my english

I have a similar intermittent link issue with 1242APs used as RootAP/Workgroup bridge combination. The user does not perceive the Radio link going down and up, because the recovery is pretty fast.
As can been seen in the logs below, the reason is max retries exceeded. Is there a way, we can improve the situation? or is this normal?
Moreover, my link tests show higher SNR a max of 254 in one direction. The other way around, it is low.. How do i interpret these results...?
    Any help is appreciated.
