Vlan Select and DHCP reservations on a WISM with code 7.0.116.0

We went to using vlan select this semester and have had a couple of issues where clients (printers) wont pull their reserved ip from dhcp. From what I've read vlan select can handle static ip addresses but can it handle dhcp reservations if the current vlan selected in the round robin function is not the vlan that the ip is reserved in?

George,
Are you talking about a dhcp mac reservation for a device on all vlans in the bundle? If so, you can... The issue I ran into is that clients had to connect to a wireless printer and a wireless projector and they connected to it via ip address. So it became a nightmare with users. They just kept complaining that it works some days and other days it doesn't. Some devices were powered off after it was used. It would be nice if you can import a list of Mac address and specify what interface it is allowed on... That would make it easy.

  • Problem selecting and dragging or moving an object with hyperlink activated

    Hei!
It is impossible to select or move normally an object, for instance a photo, which contains an activated link, and that's very annoying.
First: Let's say I have that object on the top of the page and I want to put it lower, or maybe cut it and paste it somewhere else. First I need to select it, but as soon as the mouse is on top of it, the mouse over activates and opens a webpage to the designated link.
Second: before I do anything with it, I need to select the object and the only way to do it is by drawing a selection rectangle, which gives me the problem of needing to avoid surrounding objects which I don't want to select. If I don't have space enough, I have to let them get selected together with the desired object, and then unselect using the command key + mouse click.
Third: if I want to move it, i can only do it with the arrow keys, because if I use the mouse, I get back to first problem. So it's that, or disabling the hyperlink, move the object normally, and putting the hyperlink on again. None of it very practical.
If I actually want to cut the object and paste it in another page of the site, after I went through first and second problem, I can cut normally the object, got to the desired page and paste it there. If once there I still need to move the object to place it where I want, I end up in third problem anyways.
Is there any way to avoid this trouble?
    Thanks

Thanks Mark, but you answered what I already included within my question. I wrote "So it's that, or disabling the hyperlink, move the object normally, and putting the hyperlink on again"
With that, to "Uncheck the "Make hyperlinks active" you need to first select the object, and you end up back to the first and second problem I wrote.

  • Dynamic VLAN assignment and DHCP

    Hello
I have just upgraded our WLC from 4.0 to 7.0 (via 4.2).
Before the upgrade we had our ACS returning a VLAN based on user group.  This seemed to be working without an issue.  Now that the WLC is on version 7 this is no longer working correctly.  The ACS is returning a VLAN and passing the user but the client can not get an IP from the DHCP server configured.
    Example configuration:
    SSID-----VLAN
    PN-CSC-----CSCVlan: Works
    PN-Others------OthersVlan: Works
    PN-Others-----CSCVlan: No DHCP
When users are trying to be allocated to a vlan that is different from the native one the DHCP fails however both WLANs are configured to point to the management interface so dont have any real connection to the vlan other than by name.
Have there been any changes I haven't seen in the way the dynamic vlan allocation works in version 7?

Yes, DHCP proxy could be the culprit here.  In 4.0 it was only a CLI command to enable/disable the proxy feature.  In 5.2, I think, and later it is in the GUI
    as well.
There is a defect filed against the behavior of the WLC DHCP funtion out there currently.  If all of your DHCP is coming from external resources than you can disable proxy.  If, however, you are using the WLC as DHCP server for guest access, then proxy must be enabled.  If the later is true, you should contact TAC, as there is an engineering special available that has the defect resolution.
Sorry I can't provide the defect ID, my CCO account is acting up.
    Cheers,
    Steve

  • VLANs, IPs and DHCP

This may be a silly question but here goes:
I have to set up two VLANs that do not speak to each other but use one uplink to the internet. I know how to set up VLANs and I know how to set it up so that it does not talk to each other. However, I only have one DHCP server. Is there any way to make that server assign IP addresses to both VLANS (i.e. VLAN01 IP block 192.168.1.0 and VLAN02 IP block 192.168.2.0)?
    Thank you.

    Hello,
    there are several options available.
First you can setup a trunk to the server, if the server NIC is capable of doing this.
Second you could use two ethernet interfaces on the server and attach it into the two VLANs. In both cases configure a matching IP address in each VLAN on the server.
Third you could use a router with an "ip helper-address " command on a VLAN subinterface to operate as DHCP proxy. In the latter case you should apply additional access-lists to prevent inter-VLAN traffic. The router could even be operated as DHCP server itself, in case this would be interesting to you.
In any case you have to configure your DHCP server to support both address ranges.
Hope this helps! Please rate all posts.

  • E4200 : DHCP Reservation not showing anything !?!

    Hello,
When I'm in Setup -> Basic Setup -> click on DHCP Reservation, I don't see all entries I've created earlier but computers that connect still have the correct IP address on the network; I don't know if I can create additional entries if nothing appears, what should I do ?
When I go to Status -> Local Network -> DHCP Client Table the list is blank but some computers are connected to the network
    I'm using firmware 1.0.01 build 10  Feb 21, 2011, language = English, Firefox 4.0.1
Rebooting the router doesn't change anything, I can't see connected LAN equipment and DHCP Reservation is empty despite the fact I've created entries.
Together with the "Access Restriction" which doesn't allow to block a computer from 10pm => 8am unless you create 2 rules + various issues with attached USB + 2.4Ghz signal that is far from optimal (never able to achieve more than 144-N-Mbps) and I ask myself if I will not contact the store where I purchased this unit and ask a refund (and buy something else from another brand...)
It's the first time I buy a Linksys equipment and very disappointed, support doesn't seem to be very serious
    Thanks for any suggestion
PS: Where do I ask for a refund or something similar in Linksys site ? If nothing exists, I'll let the store where I purchased this unit now about the present post

    Thanks for your answers
Today it works and I didn't reboot, restart or reset anything
I can see DHCP Reservation list + DHCP Clients Table
Same PC, same network, nothing restarted, reset, changed or added and now it works
    Weird
I would not like to re-create everything in the DHCP Reservation List as I have 17 entries so far (and going to add 1 more...)
Apparently, if I can't see my list, I have to wait a few days

  • Vlan Select & Layer 2 Multicast optimization

I am going to implement this vlan select feature in my campus network. We are running on 7.3 & planning to move into 7.4 WLC code as well. I use below reference document for this task.
WLC 7.2 VLAN Select and Multicast Optimization Features Deployment Guide
I am bit confuse about layer 2 multicast optimization. Document says we can enable/disable by using below CLI commands. "
    config network multicast l2mcast <enable|disable > <interface>"
I have 4 interfaces called student-wireless-1 to 4 (vlan 1161-1164) map into single interface group. For layer 3 multicast I will make vlan 1161 as the multicast interface with "multicast vlan feature" enabled. For layer 2 what should I do ?  Is layer 2 multicast enable on all these interfaces by default ? If so should I disable l2 multicast on 3 of these interfaces like below ? Would there be any issue of disabling this layer 2 multicast on those interfaces ?
config network multicast l2mcast disable student-wireless-2
config network multicast l2mcast disable student-wireless-3
config network multicast l2mcast disable student-wireless-4
If it is not enabled by default, shoud I go ahead enable it on one interface like below ?
config network multicast l2mcast enable student-wireless-1
If someone can explain this that would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for the help but I found some further information. Some switches (2955, 2960, 3560 or 3750) can act as a "multicast querier", taking place of a multicast router without actually needing to support multicast routing. This means you dont actually need IP Services IOS or a layer 3 switch.
    Configuation as per below;
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/switches/ps5528/products_configuration_guide_chapter09186a00803a9a29.html#wp1187873
    Supported platforms below (look for igmp querier);
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk828/technologies_tech_note09186a0080122a70.shtml#topic3
Thanks for putting me on the right track however.

  • Radius NAC VLAN select support

    Hi all,
I have digged through the WLC documentation for 7.3 and in the chapter about Radius NAC I read that the VLAN select feature is not supported.
Does anyone know if this will change?
VLAN select is actually a useful feature and I wouldn't understand if NAC support over the ISE won't be possible.
Hope someone can shed some light on this.
    Regards,
    Patrick

I think with radius the vlan select and dynamic vlan assignment are two different topics. You can have ISE set users on different vlans within the same WLAN as long as the interface is present on the controller. I have tested this and works just fine.
The vlan select maybe a topic that the wireless folks can shed some light on.
    Thanks

  • 1142 AP disassociate from WISM code 7.0.116.0

We see different 1142 APs disassociate from wisms from time to time. When it happens, we have to do shutdown and no shutdown on the switch port to bring the APs back. It just starts to happen after we upgraded wisms to code 7.0.116.0 and it only happens to c1142 APs. It does not happen very often (about 2 issues each week). Anyone see this issue as well?
    Zhenning

Any ideas why we need to upgrade the bootstrap?
There are some issues with the 1140.  This is why it's only this model that a boostrap is an optional install (autonomous or capwap use).  I'd recommend, if you have the time, to do so.
Unfortunately, I have no idea how you "force" the bootstrap upgrade if you have CAPWAP/LWAP.  The only way I can think of is downgrade to autonomous, upgrade the boostrap and convert to CAPWAP/LWAP.  Long process.

  • WLC 5508, vlan select, reserved address in external DHCP server

    Hi guys,
I have a deploy with a WLC 5508 version 7.0.116.0, APs mode local and vlan select feature enable. The issue is that the reserved IP address in external DHCP server not work. The DHCP contains a reserved IP address associates with mac address, but the assignement of IP is not match with de policies in DHCP. All others services operate normally.
This reserved assignment operate previusly to modificate the WLAN to vlan select feature. Help me to improve this situation.
    Thanks.-
    Best regards

Hello Abhishek, thanks for you quick answer....
the link was a document used for the deploy, but not especifict nothing about the reserved IP address for particular host. In other words, the reserved IP address (through MAC address) in external DHCP server not work when "vlan select" its enable.

  • DHCP Reservation Sync and DNS Host record sync etc shown in IPAM GUI

    Hello all,
I am aware of the scripts in the TechNet script center to sync DHCP leases etc to IPAM, however my question is about something else -
If you highlight an IP address (IP address inventory->select an IP), You can see fields that say: "DHCP reservation sync", "DNS PTR record sync" and "DNS host record sync" as below:
I was curious as to what these are for. Is there some built-in sync functionality for these that I perhaps have not enabled? (Don't see such options any where..)
    thanks,
    -Ravi

    Hi  Ravi ,
The three columns tell us the information of the synchronization between IPAM server and DNS server (or DHCP server) .
Here is the detailed guide for using IPAM :
Using the IPAM Client Console :
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj878351.aspx#inventory
IPAM can sync DNS and DHCP records .
The IPAM database is separate from DHCP and DNS servers on our network ,and full synchronization of hosts and IP addresses between IPAM and managed DNS or DHCP servers does not occur automatically
unless we have configured automated tasks to perform this synchronization .
    For detailed information ,see
DNS and DHCP record synchronization chapter in the following link :
    Multi-server Management :

  • WRT1900ac and DHCP Static IP Reservations

I was trying to configure my WRT1900ac last night and had problems with DHCP reservations.
I wanted to manually add all the IP addresses prior to switching everything over to the router (to avoid any potential conflicts).  I changed the router to 10.0.1.1 and wanted the DHCP to start assigning random clients at 10.0.1.100.  I have static IP addresses grouped (i.e., 10.0.1.1-10.0.1.9 as network hardware, 10.0.1.10-10.0.1.19 as computers, 10.0.1.40-10.0.1.49 as TiVo equipment, etc.).
When I tried to manually enter everything, I was receiving an error message stating an invalid IP was entered.  The reserved IP addresses should be outside the range of assigned IP's (or at least it is with most routers).  I don't want random devices assigned IP's under 10.0.1.100 in case I need them for future reservations.

You need to ensure you are setting each device to Automatic Obtain IP addressing if your going to use Reserved IP address ON the router. Static isn't the same as Reserved. Static is set on devices while Reserved is set ON routers. Reserved IPs is preferred and recommended over Static for most devices. I recommend you try using the Default DHCP pool of 192.168 at first so you can check to see the process. It should appear in the device list then just select ADD to add it to the reservation on the router. Once you get the process down, then you could change the DHCP pool numbers however it's not recommended.

  • I want to reserve a static IP address on my Airport extreme.  What is the difference between reserving by MAC Address and DHCP Client ID?

I want to understand the differences in the way you can reserve a static address for a device on the network.  I had previously set the device itself to an address and then reserved it with DHCP Client ID, which I thought was just the devices static addresss.  I'm not sure if this was in fact correct or just happend to work.  I know what a MAC address is, but I'm not really sure what the DHCP Client ID is. So it would be great if someone could clarify it, and the difference between reserving address by MAC Address or DHCP Client ID.

A MAC address is a unique identification consisting of letters and numbers in a form that looks like this:
    xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
Every network device has a MAC address, which can be found on a label on the bottom or back of the device. Apple calls this the Ethernet ID.
A DHCP Client ID is an optional name that you can assign to a device. For example, on your Mac....
Open System Preferences (gear icon on the dock)
    Open Network
    Click on Ethernet
Click Advanced at the lower right
You may be able to edit the DHCP Client  ID here....for example.....you could enter MJ500's MacBook in the space provided. That would be the Client ID of your Mac.

  • Wirless Vlans and DHCP

I am trying to configure my Aironet 1121G acess points with several vlans, got the vlans all working fine with wired devices, but the wirless devices don't get DHCP.
Basically, I have the BVI on my managment vlan and two other vlans that pass through, trying to have the public WiFi on 1 vlan and two corporate vlans with seperate wifi. can't get IPs on any of them though.
Vlnas are routed by a catlayst 3550 with helper addresses configured on all the vlan interfaces.
DHCP comes from 2 windows server 2003 boxes on a further vlan
    any Ideas?

    Vinod,
Here is the AP config, I'm confused, so any help would be useful, got to get a wireless course under my belt.

  • DHCP reservations sometimes work and sometimes not.

    Hello.
I have created a few DHCP reservations in my enivoriment. Some of the reservations do take and some do not. I even recreated the reservations verified the MAC addresses rebooted the PC also a IPCONFIG/release and IPCONFIG/renew
still will not grab the IP address set in the reservation.
What more can I look at since some reservations work and some do not?

    Hi,
Does the client get the IP address from the DHCP server which has reservations? You may check this by "ipconfig /all".
If yes, please check that if there is any warning or error in the event viewer of the DHCP server.
If no, it means that there is other unauthorized DHCP server in your network.
If it is possible, please post these warnings and errors here. It's useful for further troubleshooting.
    Hope this helps.

  • VLAN Select (Interface groups) and Outdoor AP 1552

    Hi board,
I'm just reading the 7.2 release configuration guide and found this:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/7.2/configuration/guide/cg_ports_interfaces.html#wp1384874
Chapter VLAN Select - "Guidelines and Limitations"
    The following lightweight access points are  supported: Cisco Aironet 1120, 1230, 1130, 1040, 1140, 1240, 1250, 1260,  3500, 1522/1524 Access Points, and 800 Series access points
Does anybody know if the 1552 outdoor AP (local mode) is supported with VLAN select? It's not listed in the config guide (as well as the 3600). I surely hope so :-)

As long as the 1552 is in local mode, it has the same features as the other AP's listed and vlan select is one of them. If you change the role to bridge, then no.
