VM Fusion and IP Cloaking Software on a Mac
I recently switched from PC to Mac. On my PC, I used to run a program called "Hide My IP" to prevent stuff like phishing, etc. Hide My IP is available only for Windows. I have VM Fusion and Windows XP installed on my Mac. If I run "Hide My IP" in Windows on a Mac "Virtual Machine" does this effectively cloak my ip address or is it a useless exercise because the Windows-based program is running virtually in a Mac and the Mac is still sending my real IP out in the real world?
I suspect a better understanding of how a VM works might help me answer the question but I tried to contact the Fusion people, and the Apple people, and they were pretty useless.
Can anyone enlighten me?
Well, you are always sending your real IP out into the real world. That is how it works.
Your "Hide My IP" software works by setting up either a web proxy or vpn such that any site on the other end of the proxy/vpn only sees "hidemyip.com" instead of your IP. That should continue to work fine in a virtual machine.
However, you might want to look around for a system that will work on a Mac. All you really need is a proxy/vpn service. "Hide My IP" is probably only for Windows because it either uses some proprietary protocol or some some window work under the hood. The basic concept is nothing more than a proxy and/or vpn. You can find some vpn service that would work just the same way, provide exactly the same benefit, and work on your Mac and any VM you happen to have running.

How to install and un-install software in a Mac Networked Environment
I have lots of experience in deploying software via a GPO, or Altiris, in a Windows environment. BUT How do I do the same type of thing in a Mac Environment? I would like an easy way to deploy software across many 100's of Macs. I am open to a 3rd party solution. Maybe also a way to create a package for deployment that does not take a PHD in Unix to do so.
I'm looking for easy and affordable.
we run Server 10.3.9, clients are 10.3.9 and 10.4.XTake a look at Apple Remote Desktop.
it will let you use most any packaged installers.
also if you install the Dev tools there is a package builder so you can make your own installers.
If you are going to deploy any Adobe Pro installs take a look at this.

If you are logged into your own Apple ID account for the App Store, then open App Store and try:
Download Previous Purchases from the App Store
If you have made various purchases that you need to re-download due to data loss or a lost iDevice then you have these options:
How to re-download purchased apps from the App Store
In the US you can use the iCloud beta:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes
Or hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the tool bar of App Store. See if that let's you activate a download from the purchases list.
Otherwise I can only suggest that you need to do a completely fresh installation of Lion on that machine to start everything from scratch. -
Trying to install new version of software from the Mac App Store
My iMac is running OS X 10.6.8
I purchase a copy of Swift Publisher 3.0.1 back in June of 2012.
I paid $19.99 U.S.D for this upgrade, then.
I just went to the Mac App Store to download a more recent version ( ver 3.5.5).
It is not coming up in the Mac App Store as an Update and appears as if I will pay another $19.99.
Is this what will happen? There is no indication on BeLight's web page about any update charges to any 3.x.x version of Swift Publiser,
When I click the buy button, it looks as though I am going to be charged for this, again. Nothing appears as an indication that this is just an update.
WHat will happen?I solved it.
I, originally, download and installed the software under the Mac App Store when I was using OS X Mavericks.
I was getting all sorts of error messages from the Mac App Store under Snow Leopard.
I simply copied that version to my working OS X Snow Leopard disc and it is working fine, now.
Thank goodness for having multiple backups on three drives!
Whoo! Spent a good chunk of the day trying to figure this one out! -
MixMeister Fusion and Mac OS X 10.6.4
Hello,
Since the last upgrade of Mac OS X 10.6.4, it is not possible to use MixMeister Fusion in Dual Sound Output with an additional sound card. I cannot have preview in the headphones neither main output on the external sound card. It used to work perfectly with previous version of Mac OS X 10.6.
Is there anyone who knows a tip to make it work?
Regards,
StephaneThis is my first post. I apologize for how lengthy it may be, I'm new at this forum 'thing'. I DJ for fun and recently decided to upgrade my system to a digital program using MixMeister and I am not getting the results I was hoping for, as well.
I just read the questions and replies for this discussion regarding MixMeister Fusion and Mac. I still have the Mac OS X 10.5.8 Leopard and I am also experiencing application issues with MM Fusion such as freezing, unexpected quitting, slow response time or unable to preview with sound card using headphones while playing live.
I doubled checked and the Installation requirements for MM Fusion does specify that Mac OS X v10.5 - v10.6 and up are compatible with MM Fusion v7.4.4. So why is this an issue for some of us? Surely, there are success stories out there? I know that Apple does not answer questions for 3rd party vendors. I also am aware (from other posts) that the 3rd party vendor does know about the issues at hand and does not have an answer at this time. That is too bad!
I am determined to take this a step further to research and find out why these unexpected predicaments keep happening. I am in no way, shape, or form... a 'snazzy' computer 'wiz'. All I'm trying to do is think outside the box to remedy this situation for myself and other DJ's.
So with that being said, there has to be something that we are missing? I found out that most external sound cards do not function well with Mac or have low audio quality. Most of the external sound cards you buy at the local electronic store are mainly intended for PC instead of Mac. So I did a little experimenting and found out that (depending on what you want to spend) an external audio interface for recording music & lyrics may do the trick. I purchased the M-Audio MobilePre USB audio/recording device. I installed the software, hooked it up to a USB port on my MacBook, and then hooked it up to my mixer board thru the headphones jack on the device. I was amazed at how much better the audio quality was compared to my original sound card.
However, this did leave me with another problem, previewing a song while I'm playing live. I plugged my headphones thru the headphone jack on the MacBook and couldn't get sound even when I re-configured the sound output to dual mode. So, I purchased a separate USB headphone set. (You can use wired or wireless USB headphones.) Still, the sound wasn't very loud in my preview ear, but it did do the trick.
Finally, MM Fusion worked the way I wanted it to. After playing an hour or two in to my gig, I added a song to my playlist and adjusted the transition, when, all of a sudden the cursor went into a 'spinning gear (color wheel)' for several seconds. The song playing live actually finished out but didn't transition to the next one. Then the MM Fusion application quit unexpectedly. Luckily I had a CD ready to play in my mixer.
Things for me to consider?
1. Close out any other apps that may be running.
2. Allocate Memory appropriately or add more memory to my computer?
3. Re-Install System Software and perform a clean installation may fix problems with extensions or plug-ins that become incompatible after updates?
4. Or Delete and Re-install the Application? Sometimes its necessary after a software update. I read on Apple support that sometimes not all software updates are compatible with older versions of some applications or vice versa.
5. Use a completely different type of sound card or audio interface.
6. Use a more compatible Application for mixing my music live.
These are just a few things that I'm still trying to figure out. Maybe there is an answer here for someone? Any feedback would be good. At first I thought I had a solution, but later realized that I end up with more questions? -
Fusion and Windows 7: downgrading to XP
I need to run AutoCAD 2002 on my new iMac. I purchased Fusion and a retail copy of Windows 7 Professional. I have read that this old AutoCAD software will only run on Windows XP. Does anyone have experience and advice? Is it possible to operate old software in this fashion?
Forums for Fusion can be found on the VMWare website. You should really consider posting your question there, as Apple discusisons only provide support for Apple products:

Problem with iTunes and/or updater software??
I just bought a brand new 30gig iPod video. I followed apple's "instructions" and installed iTunes and the iPod software off of the included cd. I then connected my iPod and it charged but itunes never recognized it. Windows can find it (it appears as an external disk drive in my computer and iPod in other places) but iTunes doesn't recognize it at all. I have tried resetting the iPod, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes/ipod software using the install cd, i have tried downloading the latest software from apples website and installing it that way, I have tried everything but restoring the ipod because the updater software won't even work. every time I try to use it, it just says "Service Error". I really have no idea what to do. The iPod seems to work fine, it turns on, turns off, windows seems to recognize it, but iTunes won't recognize the iPod and the iPod updater software doesn't seem to work at all. The last thing I am going to try is wiping my computer harddrive (it needs it for other reasons, not just this iPod problem) and starting completely fresh with nothing or very little installed besides iTunes and the iPod software.
The article posted in the first response is a great place to start. If that doesn't work, try these out as well:

@Why is it when I go to open a file in Photoshop cc I get a "Could not complete your request because of a program error". I have uninstalled and re-installed software, It works for a short time then I get that error again when i go to open a file. Thank you!
Without proper system information and other details like what files you work with nobody can tell you much. From corrupted prefs to issues with your PS swap file to actual problems with the fiel storage this could be anything.

I am using FCP 7.0.3 on my Mac Pro. I bought a new mac book pro and loaded the software on to the lap top but the software is 6.0.3. How do i get the update to the lap top?
.. and by the way, the jump from FCP 6.0.3 to FCP 7.0 (or higher) isn't an "update" It's a full version "upgrade" that has to be done using the install discs (or disc images).

I need help. My ipad 2 was stuck in recovery mode. i tried to connect it to itunes and restore but after downloading the file and extracting the software there is a pop up message that says "the device is full. Deleting files and emptying your recycle been will help you restore." how am i going to erase files if i can't open my ipad. i dont know what to do. Its been 2 days now. please help. thanks.
yes i am sure. This are the exact words... "The iPad "iPad" could not be restored. The disk you are attempting to use is full. (Removing files and emptying the recycle bin will free up additional space". i tried some options, hard reset, redsnow, tinyumbrella but still it's stuck.

From within Photoshop Elements, when I try to open Editor, a box opens that states I must activate the software. I registered and activated the software last year. When I click to activate, I get a message that I am not connected to the internet. I am connected. How do I get Editor to work?
You would get the redemption code, or perhaps even the serial number, from whomever you purchased the software from, apparently Amazon, so talk to them. This wouldn’t be the first time they’ve sold something that didn’t have all the numbers needed to license it.
A redemption code is something that is usually on the inner disc packaging if you purchase the media in a box, and there is a barcode on the outside of the packaging that must be scanned at the checkout register to activate the hidden inner code so you can redeem it at home on that website. This is what happens if you buy PSE from a brick-and-mortar store like Best Buy. I don’t’ know what happens if you purchase the downloaded version as I have never done that.
A redemption code is 24-digits of letters and numbers that you enter into a website to get a serial number, once and only once. The serial number of only 24-digits, no letters, is what you enter into the software during the install or when you run it and it asks if you want to register or run in a trial mode—whatever the exact phrasing is.
In any case it sounds like you don’t have either a redemption code or serial number—although perhaps something is listed on the purchase confirmation or your account online at Amazon or even in an e-mail from Amazon. -
after updating an older intel macbook to Snow Leopard and ilife 11, Software Update says everything is up to date, but when I try to open iPhoto, it tells me I have to update to the latest version, what can I do?
Download 9.1 and 9.2.3 updates and install them

VMWare Fusion and Parallels Desktop Benchmark Comparison
This is a quickie benchmark of VMWare Fusion and Parallels Desktop using Super PI, PC Mark 05, and Passmark.
VMWare Fusion 36932
Parallels Desktop 3094 Beta 2
Notes:
Both virtual machines were allocated with large 10+ GB virtual disks and 640MB of RAM. The VMWare CPU was configured with two processors. The Parallels CPU was configured with 1 (two is not available). VMWare reported the CPU as 1 physical, 2 logical processors running at 2.66 GHz while Parallels reported 1 physical, 1 logical processor running at 9.6 GHz (the combined speed of all four cores on the Mac Pro). The max observed CPU utilization in activity monitor when running under VMWare was 200% and max under Parallels was 173%.
I chose not to compare 1 VMWare CPU vs. 1 Parallels CPU. While Parallels does not support SMP or multithreaded processes on multiple processors the CPU utilization on the Mac went well above 1 core (173%). For this comparison, I wanted to see results of max processing based on what the two vendors have delivered, as opposed to benchmarking the underlying "virtual or hypervisor cpu" on a 1:1 basis. This explains why VMWare was 2x faster than Parallels on some CPU tests.
Both of these products are beta. VMWare is running in debug mode (can not be turned off in this beta).
Caveat emptor on these stats. This was an unscientific exercise to satisfy my curiosity. Some of the extraordinary differences are highlighted with <--.
Platform:
Mac Pro 2.66 GHz, 2GB RAM, Nvidia 7300GT
Disk 1 - OS X, 73GB Raptor
Disk 2 - dedicated disk where each virtual machine image was created separate from the OS or any OS-related virtual memory files.

I would expect the final VMWare fusion performance numbers to be quite a bit better than that of Parallels - they have almost a decade's worth of experience more than the Parallels folks in this arena, and a much larger development team to boot.
Once VMWare Fusion is released to the public, I think that you'll see a clearer distinction between the two products. VMWare will continue to appeal to the professional customer, with a more robust feature set and corporate-friendly features (and a correspondingly higher price tag); Parallels will fall more into the consumer/VirtualPC-replacement market. It will be interesting to see how Parallels will be affected when (and if) VMWare player is ported to OS X.
Interesting about the Parallels performance stats on a native partition - looks like almost enough reason to avoid the bootcamp partition approach altogether. Sharing a native windows installation with a VM in parallels is a pretty scary situation in any case, as the two environments have entirely different hardware configurations. Do-able, but there is some black magic involved (if you want to see an example of what I mean, try to move a windows installation from one machine to another w/different hardware sometime - it ain't pretty); I wouldn't try this in a production scheme unless I had REALLY good backups.
