VM Ware Fusion Virus?

Hey! Is it possible to get a virus on a virtual machine? I don't have windows on a partition, simply set up as a virtual machine. If so, there is no way it would affect my leopard HD correct?

Hi,
running Windows in any form (native or virtualize) results in the possibility to get this Windows infected by Virus/Trojans.
Up to now there is no Virus that can infect Windows and OSX, however this might change in the future.
And certain types of Makro-Viruses, which affect MS Office documents, can also do harm when using these documents with OSX versions of Office.
A decent Anti-Virus protection is the way to go nowadays.

  • Why is my Macbook Pro so slow when I run VM Ware Fusion?

My Macbook Pro is very slow when doing normal tasks (Mail especially) and slows to a stop when trying to run VM Ware Fusion. I need to run this to run a work program and that is the only thing that I do with Fusion. Everything seems to come to a halt when I boot up Fusion and I need to figure out what is causing it. You do not have adequate ram to run a virtual machine as indicated by your Page-outs. You may also be assigning more memory to the VM guest than is prudent, or number of CPUs it uses. You should also use the latest VMware version available for Mavericks.
The other issue is that your machine is polluted with wireless modem and devguru kernel extensions that may no longer be compatible with Mavericks and may be posing conflicts between each other. Eliminate your login items from within System Preferences > Users & Groups. Launch what you need, when you need it, from the Dock, or /Applications.
Do you use all of those Internet Plug-ins in Safari, or could you remove some third-party plug-ins?

  • VM Ware-Fusion version 1.1.1

I purchased VM Ware-Fusion ver1.X in May08 along with my imac osx ver 10.5.4. My goal is to create a linux server using Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL/Fedora7) os.
My question is this, has anyone used VM Ware Fusion to create virtual machines for example windows machines, linux machines, etc..
I need information, direction, and instruction of creating virtual machines such as a linux machine from a DVD image. I have no experience in creating virtual machines running on an imac system.
Please let me know of the good and bad of VM-Ware Fusion for creating virtual machines. I discuss this issue with Apple Tech support and the response is not good at this time. I also visit VM-Ware web site and it is not very user friendly
Any assistance and or comments are welcome.

It is a pretty straight forward process. Just run the create new VM machine wizard. It will ask you for what OS you want, etc.

  • Do i have to download vm ware fusion to activate rosetta stone?

I installed rosetta stone and tried to activate. However, a warning appearing on the screen indicated that i need to buy vm ware fusion. I am confused since rosetta stone says it work on mac. Should i buy the vm fusion or are there another way to activate rosetta stone. thanks

Yes you need antivirus. Most of us do not practice safe computing as well as does Shootist007. And there is no reason not to be as safe as possible. Use Microsoft Security Essentials. It can be downloaded from Microsoft's site and it is free. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/products/security-essentials

  • My mac has v-ware Fusion installed on it.

My Mac has v-ware Fusion installed on it.  This program was used to accommodate my business program from windows.
I no longer need the Fusion program on my computer.  If i delete it will is also free up the space on my hard drive that was reserved for the windows operating system?

    How-to uninstall: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&d ocTypeID=DT_KB_1_1&externalId=1017838
The Windows Virtual Machine you have used can be uninstalled/deleted using this http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=display KC&externalId=1003420 (before uninstalling Fusion itself !).

  • My Windows programs on VM Ware Fusion run poorly on Yosemite.  Can I change back to Mavericks OS?

My Windows programs on VM Ware Fusion run poorly on Yosemite OS.  Can I regress to the Mavericks OS?

    Yes.
Your options depend on a few factors, like:
if you made a backup of your Mavericks installation (like with Time Machine) before you upgraded to Yosemite
what the original OS was that came on your Mac when it was new
if your Mac is capable of internet recovery
if your Mac originally came with installer disks (like DVDs), and if you still have those disks.

  • VM Ware Fusion - I this what i need?

    Hi guys,
I'm new to the macworld after getting a macbook last year. I have several games on my pc (Windows) such as sims 2 and all the expansion packs and am wanting to play these on my macbook. I originally thought I would have to buy them all again in Mac format but a friend recommended VM Ware Fusion. How does it work exactly? By that, i mean, do i need to have a disc for windows to use it (because i don't seem to have one!)
All help and comments mucho appreciated! Thanks guys.

VMWare (and Parallels) is a so called virtualization software. In short words, it's emulating PC hardware, so you can install and run software in this emulated PC. You still need a copy of Windows, as VMWare only emulates the hardware.
Launching VMWare will initialize the "hardware", which acts as a real hardware: it would boot up the installed operating system when powered on (Windows in that case). So Windows is not installed on your Mac, but "inside" the emulated PC hardware.
Games may be slow when using virtualization software. I suggest running Windows native on the Mac by using the bootcamp assistant.

  • Bootcamp, Parallels desktop or VM-ware fusion??

What should I use when I just want to play games? Is there a big difference using VM-ware or parallels? Any reply is appreciated!

Based on the comparison Neil's messaged linked to if it where me I'd probably get Parallels, however I have been using Fusion for almost 2 years with very good success. While I hardly use it anymore because I've weaned myself off of Windows for personal use it still resides on my machine. What I've been doing lately is running Microsoft's Remote Desktop Connection to connect to a XP notebook thats on my network and controlling it from my iMac. I've found it pretty stable and quick but it does require a second machine, I just happened to have one lying around and thought why not. I use it to do some Internet applications that only run on IE which doesn't run on OS X. So far it's been a pretty good solution. I also like it because if that machine becomes diseased (as Windows machines tend to do) it's a remote box and has no chance of affecting my iMac in ANY fashion.
However to answer your RAM and HD question, yes with both Parallels and Fusion you tell them how much RAM and HD space you are dedicating to Windows.
    Regards,
    Roger

  • Antivirus For VM Ware Fusion

hello, I installed Fusion 2 today. I already have Macafee antivirus for Windows installed on the BootCamp partition. Q: will this suffice for the Fusion VM partition; ie, do I need a separate AV program for VM?

Thanks. BTW: I found VM Ware (downloaded a trial version) far better than Parallels (which I unfortunately purchased but am requesting a refund). Just fyi for anyone who might be looking at the two programs.

  • VM fusion virus software

I have a brand new Macbook Pro and recently had VM Fusion and windows 7 installed.  Do I need to have any kind of Anti Virus Software installed for the windows 7 virtual environment?  Reason why I ask is recently while in Windows 7 a internet explorer pop up came up and and stated virus malware detected install this to better protect your computer.  I just closed out of it assuming it was some kind of scam or an attempt to download a virus to my system.  Do I need to install some type of anti virus software for windows 7 or am I still protected?  Sometimes I have to use Internet explorer to access certain web pages but for the most part I stay on the mac side of the house.  Any input is greatly appreciated.  Thanks!!
    Mike

Any time you install and use Windows you need anti virus software. Use Microsoft Security Essentils. It is available free from Microsoft. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download

  • Which is the better option for using windows on mac ...parallel or vm ware fusion

i want to use c# ,.net, c++ , on my macbook pro ....which software i should purchase parallel or vmware fusion

They both work well. I like Fusion. Others like Parallels. Still others like VirtualBox.
They all have free trials, VirtualBox is a free product, so try them for yourself and stick with the one that works best for you.
I opted to install Windows using Boot Camp Assistant.

  • VM Ware Fusion --- Win XP on OSX 10.5.4 on a MacBook Pro

I have this peculiar problem that I or anyone else can't seem to fix.
I'm using Windows XP via VMWare Fusion on a MacBookPro4.1 running OSX 10.5.4.
I have a home office setup, where I use an HP ColorLaserJet CM1015 MFP printer that is connected wirelessly via a print server to my home network.
I have been unable to add that printer to my MacBookPro, as a result when I need to print I email it to myself and print from another home computer or use a USB stick to transfer the file to another computer. I've tried adding the printer to the Mac side as well as the Windows side, but the MacBook doesn't recognize the IP address of the printer.
    What should I do?
    Thanks.

I had a similar problem for quite a while... It was soooo annoying having to e-mail files to myself or stop what I was doing to plug in the printer directly via usb. I tried everything from uninstalling & reinstalling the software & drivers too many times to count... No matter what I did, Windows XP couldn't find the printer wirelessly. The solution ending up being ridiculously simple. As soon as I downloaded & installed Apple's Bonjour program for Windows XP the setup wizard detected my "long, lost" printer instantly. Since then my printer has worked flawlessly! Hope this helps

  • How to backup VM Ware Fusion separately from scheduled backups.

I just installed VM Fusion. The Apple Genius told me when I install, list it as Not to Backup in Time Machine, but do it manually from time to time.
I forgot how he told me to do it manually, anyone out there know how?

I suspect he said this because any change to the VM disk image will trigger a backup of the complete file.
I'm faced with the same problem since I have a 13 GB Windows disk image. As soon as I start using it in earnest, it will get backed up every hour (unnecessarily in the main since most of it will be unchanging system and applications). I intend to exclude the disk image for that reason, and use the snapshot facility in the VM I am using instead.
I forgot how he told me to do it manually, anyone out there know how?
Can't help you there since I'm not using Fusion.

  • Time Capsule and VM Ware Fusion

Does anyone know if it is possible to run VMWare fusion and Windows off of Time Capsule? I have a MBP and it has run out of memory....the bulk of the memory is because of Windows and running VMWare fusion...

You can put your Virtual Machine anywhere.
However, if you are backing up your VMWare virtual machine with Time Machine, you are wasting lots of space on your backup drive. The virtual machine is a single file. Every time you open the virtual machine, it changes. So, TM will back it up every time.
    From [the VMWare site|http://blogs.vmware.com/teamfusion/2008/04/vmware-fusion-1.html]:
{quote}Take Your VM Back in Time
Prior versions of VMware Fusion automatically excluded virtual machines from Time Machine backups to avoid hitting a Mac OS X-related crash when backing up running virtual machines.
Apple has addressed this issue in Mac OS X 10.5.2 and VMware Fusion 1.1.2 enables Time Machine to back up virtual machines on Mac OS X 10.5.2 and later.
    NOTE: As part of the back up process, Time Machine makes duplicate copies of all non-excluded files, as those files change. As such, Time Machine will make a new copy of any virtual machine that has run since the last time Time Machine ran. Because virtual machines have a tendency to be large files (just like iMovie projects, or Aperture Libraries), and might take up large amounts of space with duplicate copies on your Time Machine hard drive, you may want to consider manually excluding certain virtual machines from backup in Time Machine’s preference pane.{quote}
