VMware deployment - help

Hi all,
I am after some advice on how I can use the VMware server to its maximum potential. I would like to install a training software to 10 pcs so to train people. I have to tell you that the software is quite demanding and the use of an Oracle database is necessary as well.
I thought that the VMware solution might be a good idea so to keep all pcs clean (by going back to an original snapshot) after every training session. However, I am a little bit confused.
I am also thinking of installing the VMware server to my physical server where I can create 10 partitions running windows XP professional. I will have to install the software+database to one of the virtual pcs partitions and then import this to all the rest of the virtual machines. The trainees can then log into those 10 virtual machines of the server. I am quite worried about the speed of the network and how this can respond to all the simultaneous requests from the trainees. Do you think that this can be an issue?
Another idea would be to install 10 VMware servers (since it is free) to each trainee's pc and make snapshots so that when the virtual pcs are rebooted they can all go back to an original configuration. I do not know.....I am a little bit confused.
My aim here is to always go back to an original project/database configuration. I may be wrong in the approach I am taking.
I would also like to make a "global solution". I mean to be able to distribute the virtual machine to all other pcs in my company. However, the rest of the pcs might not have the same hardware installed. Does that mean that the image will not be compatible? How can I get around this problem as well? How can I make a global image irrespective of the hardware being used?
Any suggestions?
Your help will be very much appreciated.
Thanks
Kostas

Did you get this to work?
I'm trying to load Oracle on a VMware server and the enterprise manager doesn't seem to work. It works fine when I load it on the physical machine.

  • Running win 7 pro on Mac. VMware fusion - Help

    Hey Guys,
    I bought a mac and well I have been missing a few of my favourite PC programs so I have now installed VMware Fusion and put windows in and I logged into last night really quickly before I went to bed.
    A few questions I have if someone can please help me with is :
    1. How do I jump across to the windows OS ?
    2. Do I need to transfer the app from my external to internal mac HD
    3. Do I need winzip or is it still mac or once I goto the windows OS.. I can use normal winzip ?
    sorry to ask so many noobish questions I just want to make sure I can run 3 main things from my Pc on the Mac and been told it was through Fusion which looks like the windows OS.
    Please can someone help me out with these questions.

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
    since Fusion is not an Apple product it would be better to use their own Support resources here http://www.vmware.com/products/fusion/support.html

  • VMware Fusion Help

    I recently bought my first Imac.  Being new to mac from PC I installed VMware fusion on my mac and when I tried to install the windows XP professional from the disc that I have I got an error message.  I tried it a couple of times and I thought that I finally got it to work when I got the dreaded PC blue screen of death. The error message was typical PC "error occured and windows had to shut down......" Now when I go to open VMware fusion all I get is this FULL screen of the blue screen of death, this is the "snapshot" I presume from the fusion software, but how do I get out of that screen and get back to being able to operate fusion - or can I? There is no tool bar or anything just an entire computer screen of the blue screen of death and I can't esc. out of it or anything.
    I really need to get my PC programs to run on my mac.  So sick of PC but unfortunetly some of the programs I have for my design business only run on PC.  HELP!!! I need to get back up and running so I can get some work done and I can't even get my fusion software to escape out of the blue screen. So sick of the PC screen of death.
    Jill

    This is a question that would be better addressed in VMWare's own forums:
    http://communities.vmware.com/community/vmtn/desktop/fusion?view=discussions

    Could you post the code for your DemoBean?
    I suspect that you are using a really old tutorial on EJB where the EJBContext, SessionContext or EntityContext were declared transient. This was, I believe, the case with EJB 1.0. You would need to remove the transient from the context declaration, if that is the case.

  • Tomcat deployment - help!

    Hi everybody,

    PS: Is it not possible to install Tomcat in the IDE instead of the bundled server?

    I too am having a similar problem, when i build / dist to the server directley it works fine but if i put the war file in the webapps directory and explode it the application doesn't work.
    I looks like it is not referenceing the JSF libraries properly. Im currently tring to fix this problem i will let you know if i get i done.
    You may want to try installing the server you are tring to deploy to on your build machine and seeing if when you build straight on to it (like your bundled server) your probelem still persists, if not then it might be that you have the same problem as me with the exploding war files not being set-up how you want them to be.

    1. Re-test your connection from JDev to AS and it must success.
    I suggest to create a new OC4J instance on AS and fill
    the instance name on the dialog window while
    creating AS Connection on JDev. i.e OC4J instance name (optional)
    2. For JDev 9.0.5.x/10.1.2 using AS 9.0.4,
    don't forget to install ADF Runtime Libraries on AS.
    3. Make sure your AS support JDK/J2SE version as in JDev.
    JDev 10.1.2 need AS to use JDK version 1.4.2_04-b05.
    You can download it from http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.4.2_04/index.html
    and install it.
    To cek your ORACLE_HOME/jdk/bin/java -fullversion

  • Crystal Report Deployment Help

    Hi,
    We have developed Winforms, which uses Crystal Reports. When we were loading the report using "..\..\Reports\Reportname.rpt", the path inside the project's subfolder in development was working fine. As soon as we deployed the set up project, which was created by Visual studio team system 2008 Setup project, we are receiving an error message "Load report failed"  when we load the Crystal Reports from the application.
    It seems that it could not find the path of the report, or it could not find the required Crystal Reports DLL files to load the report. We'd be very appreciated if any of you can help.
    Thanks,

  • Urgent - OBIEE High Availability Deployment - Help Needed

    HI All,
    I don't have much OBIEE Admin experience, but for a client I have to deploy the OBIEE11g High Availability environment (with cluster,load balancer - http server so on) within a week or so.
    I tried to go thru Oracle's guide on deployment,but seems it'd be helpful, if someone who has already done this kind of job - provides a step by step guide with screenshot etc. Otherwise time is too short for this,
    Can you please help.

    Hi Srini,
    I also have similar kind of requirement. I have did all the things mentioned in the above Rittmanmead URL. All the things are working fine, but when Primary BI server is down, then I am not able to log in to the application (it is showing authentication failure). In log file of BI Server it is showing below error

    Same error is coming if I am trying to login with Primary server.
    Please let me know if anything else need to configure, other than above mention rittmanmead link.

  • WebLogic deployment help needed ..

    Hi
    Apologies, if this posting is inappropriate here, but couldn't find a
    better
    way ..
    We are developing J2EE based applications on the WebLogic 6.0 platform.
    Our
    developers are experts in Java and J2EE technologies.
    We will be deploying our applications into a production environment
    early March.
    At this point, we do not have expertise in deploying J2EE based
    applications
    into a 'real' Wl6.0 production environment with clustering, failover,
    load-balancing, virtual-hosting and all those other production type
    features.
    We can and will obviously learn all this over time, but our release
    dates are
    quite close ..
    We're looking for some very short-term consulting help and guidance in
    this
    area, from experts who have 'been there and done that'. Please contact
    me, if
    you have the right experience and are willing to help. We are located in
    Fremont, California.

In log file of BI Server it is showing below error
    (Error Message From BI Security Service: WSM-06162 The policy referenced by URI "oracle/wss_username_token_service_policy" could not be retrieved as connection to Policy Manager cannot be established at "t3://01HW486222:7001,01HW486222:9704,01HW486222:9704" due to invalid configuration or inactive state.)
    where 01HW486222 is our secondary server.
    Same error is coming if I am trying to login with Primary server.
    Please let me know if anything else need to configure, other than above mention rittmanmead link.
    Thanks

  • JDeveloper/9iAS Deployment Help

    I am developing a JSP/JavaBeans application. The JSPs call the JavaBeans which are dependent on Oracle libraries, but not using BC4J. I want to deploy to 9iAS.
    I have tried deploying to JServ by copying stuff over and modifying classpaths, but the libraries I need (iFS) are not deployed to JServ; I believe they are deployed to OSE. That means I need to deploy to OSE.
    I have been messing around with this for the past two days and have yet to get a working application running. I have read numerous technet postings as well as a tremendous amount of documentation on the topic. None of them cut to the point which is: What is the recommended way to deploy a JSP/JavaBeans application that doesn't use BC4K to 9iAS? This application includes JSPs, HTMLs, JSs, CSSs, and images.
    I can successfully get my beans deployed to the 8i database. (Meaning I can see they are there in Enterprise Manager.) But my JSPs cannot see them, presumably because they are only visible to OSE and I have only been able to get my JSPs in JServ.
    I have created a domain. In the aurora shell, it is /webdomains/watermark. Question 1: How do I access the files in this domain from a browser? Question 2: How can I get JDeveloper to deploy my other web files (JSP, HTML, JS, CSS, and images) so I can access this web app. (And if I can't with JDeveloper, what's the best way to accomplish this?)
    Huge thanks to anyone who can help me with this?

    Hi,
    I would recommend taking a look at the WAR deployment tool available from the OSE team. You can download it from OTN by going to the Technologies page, then click on JSP and Servlets under the Java Technologies section, then click on Download.
    Currently, deploying to OSE from JDeveloper involves several separate steps that the WAR tool should combine for you.

  • Need applet deployment help!

    Hey everyone,
    I'm having an issue understanding why my .jnlp file is seemingly being ignored. I'm trying to deploy an applet as follows:
    <body bgcolor="Black">
    <br><br><br><br><br>
    <center>
    <script src="http://www.java.com/js/deployJava.js"></script>
    <script>
        var attributes = {code:'System.AppletShell', width:800, height:600};
        var parameters = {jnlp_href: 'NGEngine.jnlp'};
        deployJava.runApplet(attributes, parameters, '1.6');
    </script>
    </center>
    </body>And my jnlp configuration file is as follows:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252"?>
      <jnlp codebase="http://localhost/applet">
        <information>
          <title>Project Foundation</title>
          <vendor>Company</vendor>
          <homepage href="http://www.company.com"/>
          <icon href="EconomicCenter.jpg">
            <kind>splash</kind>
         <height>100</height>
         <height>200</height>
          </icon>
          <offline-allowed/>
          <shortcut online="true">
            <desktop/>
            <menu submenu="Company"/>
          </shortcut>
        </information>
        <resources>
          <java version="1.3+" initial-heap-size="128m" max-heap-size="512m"/>
          <jar href="NGEngine.jar"/>
          <extension name="jogl" href="http://download.java.net/media/jogl/builds/archive/jsr-231-webstart-current/jogl.jnlp"/>
        </resources>
      <applet-desc main-class="System.AppletShell" name="Project Foundation" width="800" height="600">
    </jnlp>The problem is that I can get the applet to run if I specify to the deployment SCRIPT, the following parameters: code, codebase, and archive. At that point, the applet runs but it can't find my my jogl extension. If I manually feed the .jnlp file to web start everything starts up fine. Also, I am hosting these files via apache, and the .jnlp mime type has been set up correctly afaik (mime.types).
    So, why is it that the .jnlp file is seemingly being ignored?
    Thanks ahead of time!

    Thanks for the reply. Just a quick note, I'm both relatively new at coding in Java, and completely new at deploying anything in Java, so if any of these questions stem from a lack of research on my part, I apologize.
    I've been using both these resources as primary references:
    1* [http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/deployment/deploymentInDepth/runAppletFunction.html], and
    2* [http://java.sun.com/javase/technologies/desktop/javawebstart/download-spec.html] (the 6.0.10 specification / 6.0.18?)
    You stated that "An embedded applet JNLP should have no code base specified... ". However, according to 1*: "... if some deployment options have different values in the attribute name-value pairs and in the JNLP file ... leave the codebase attribute empty or specify an absolute URL. When the codebase attribute is left empty, it defaults to the directory containing the JNLP file." This is a bit confusing for me, because if I remove codebase attribute from the jnlp, which happens to be the "absolute path to the directory containing the JNLP file", I suddenly get an application error from the jdk web start tool: "BadFieldException[ The field <icon>href has an invalid value: EconomicCenter.jpg,EconomicCenter.jpg]". (The jdk tool starts everything perfectly fine if the codebase attribute is present.)
    So I thought that specifying the document base might fix this issue, since my EconomicCenter.jpg resides in the same directory as document base, but that didn't seem to work.
    Further, I have some confusion surrounding the point of the code attribute that deployJava.runApplet consumes. What is the difference between the code attribute, and the main-class attribute of the jnlp's applet-desc element?
    If I try to launch the embedded applet/jnlp, from my browser, I get the error: "load: class System.AppletShell not found.", and the jnlp file is still seems to be ignored.
    Also, I downloaded janela although it hasn't helped terribly much to get my feet off the ground yet, but here's the output in any case (with codebase removed from the jnlp open tag).

    The resource download at NGEngine.jar can be optimized by removing the (default) value of main='false'.
    It might be possible to optimize the start-up of the app. by  specifying download='lazy' for the NGEngine.jar resource.
    Lazy downloads might not work as expected for NGEngine.jar unless the download 'part' is specified.

    is there any way to call a form without giving the path and by giving only the filename?Yes, add your path to FORMS_PATH environment variable within default.env file, or <your envfile>.env, if you have created one. The file is in ORACLE_HOME/forms/server.
