VMWare doesn't start after kernel update

Hello,
I've just updated my kernel to 3.10.0-997-generic. After that VMWare Player doesn't start anymore.
I've tried to run patches and different solutions I found in google, but it didn't worked yet.
This is the log of my last attempt.
Thanks in advance

Before
create file "/usr/lib/vmware/settings"
after
create file "/root/.vmware/config"
after
create file "/root/.vmware/preferences"
And after
Install the build-essential package:
sudo apt-get install build-essential
VMware Workstation 11.1.0 and Player (Pro) 7.1.0 support kernels up to 3.18. You can apply a patch:
curl http://pastie.org/pastes/9934018/download -o /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patch
cd /usr/lib/vmware/modules/source
tar -xf vmnet.tar
patch -p0 -i /tmp/vmnet-3.19.patch
tar -cf vmnet.tar vmnet-only
rm -r *-only
vmware-modconfig --console --install-all
I tried, worked

  • VMware player won't start after kernel update

    Hi,
today I've updated to 3.9.6-1 kernel and all went good. So I wanted to start my vmware player to start a vm. Of course I've done the needed steps in the vmplayer wiki page to setup the new headers and stuff after kernel update for vmplayer. Also I've ran "vmware-patch -f" and ran trough. But still get an error when I wanted to start the player in the "/tmp/vmware-root/vmware-modconfig-11986.log":

Maybe it has something to do with the last filesystem update?
But I don't know what to do really and couldn't found anything on that.

    Well, I discovered the cause:
I use alsa, but it isn't working, I don't know why. When I exec alsamixer as root it says cannot connect. When I use as my user open but, instead of my card (intel), it's PulseAudio.
I use the volume control widget from vicious, then, it wasn't loading.
Thanks you all by attention and patience.

  • Satellite A100 - Windows and BIOS doesn't start after BIOS update

Hello, I have updatet BIOS of my notebook sattelite A100.
After updating I cannot start my notebook and BIOS doesn't start.

Hey guys... I tried to update my girlfriend's BIOS on a A100 just now (the windows installer) and the procedure stoped in the middle because windows crashed while doing. Now the laptop won't start at all (obviously). I have a black screen when turning it on. No boot sounds or anything. I've already removed the AC power source and battery in case that works. I guess removing the BIOS battery won't help either since the flashing was wrong... In case that doesn't work, is there any chance i could find a BIOS from ebay or somewhere else?
    Thx in advance, Jimmy..
PS. My gf is going to shoot my brains out :P

  • [SOLVED] Exaile doesn't start after system update

    Hi,
After last system update Exaile won't start I've searched forum and web and can't find solution for that.
    [lukasz@myhost ~]$ exaile
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/lib/exaile/exaile.py", line 32, in <module>
    import gobject
    ImportError: No module named gobject
As You can see it says something about gobject.
BTW. After update I also hav problems with catalyst from AUR, my Gnome wasn't starting so I had to replace it with opensource ATI drivers,
another problem is that everytime I startup gnome it's uing very small fonts, and I have to manually change it to one I had before.
    Please help,
    Regards,
    Lukasz

  • Mac 309 doesn't start after  today update  to  newest os

I HAVE UPDATED MY MAC 309 TODAY TO THE NEWEST OS AND SINCE NOON MY MAC DOESN'T START

Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partitirion & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

  • [Solved] Can not build modules for VMware Player after kernel updates

I have a problem generating the modules for VMware Player after kernel updates. I am using  VMware Player version 5.02 (without patches) and the softlink according to the Wiki.
When I start the installation of the modules from the GUI, the program just closes. Running vmware-modconfig in the CLI generates the following log file:

Today, (Kernel  3.10.5-1, VMware Player version 5.02 with kernel patches) the modules could successful be generated from the CLI:
    vmware-modconfig --console --install-all
    Solved (somehow).

FF doesn't start after update to version 27.0.1

Firefox 27.0.1 is too new for me to know what unique issues it might have. I will message you a link to download the installer for Firefox 27.0 to see whether that reverses the problem.

    Any help?
I tried to reinstall dependencies of xorg-server and mesa. And then I even went through with the whole system update which I postponed for a few weeks because of the KDE changes. Sadly even the whole system update didn't help.
Is it possible that any old config files can cause this?
    EDIT:
I tried kernel parameter "nouveau.modeset=0" but it didn't help.

Ok, I guess I solved it by reinstalling xf86-video-nouveau.
Funny business! Why did the upgrade to xorg-server 1.17.1 force me to remove it when it is still needed??
And why does that lead to mysterious error messages and segfault??
I discovered it accidentally when I stumbled upon the fact that the package was still installed on my newer x86-64 Arch installation despite being on xorg-server 1.17.1.

  • Automatically build kernel module after kernel update

Hello. Everytime kernel is updated, my wifi drivers don't work. I need to use this to get my adapter working: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/8192cu-dkms/ .
After kernel update, I have to manually reinstall the package, so the kernel module gets rebuilt. Is there any way to make it automatic?

I noticed it, but your script doesn't run at all when I type `mkinitcpio -p linux`. And wifi still works after reboot. Same for graphics driver, it has a hook at shutdown, that rebuilds its module after kernel update, it haven't run too and graphics driver works. It's like 'mkinitcpio -p linux' does nothing to the system.

  • Lost network after kernel update

    Hi
I have lost my network after kernel updating the kernel [2.6.35.7]
    I downgraded to kernel 2.6.35.6

    Hi,
I'm just reporting that I had this issue today too. I rebooted my computer from Win7 to Arch64 and I was left without network. Also it doesn't work in windows after rebooting back. I thought that It is something with connection so I tried to recoonect cable and also tryied to swap it in switch/adsl gateway. It started working after several switches (not on 1st!) It looks like interface is repeating on and off. So I rebooted to Arch and it stops working again...
I fixed it by reinstalling kernel26 package. But it is strange because it works yesterday, last thing what I did with kernel and modules was update of gc nvidia drivers... I don't know when I updated kernel last time
I'm using same network driver as Karol - r8169
    lsmod | less
    mii                     3826  1 r8169
I'm using this card as well.  I upgraded yesterday and I can't get wireless with WICD.  Windows and normal network daemon work fine.  I use kernel26.  What other info can I provide?  If a bug report needs to be filed, would it be WICD, kernel26 or other?
Also, I forgot, but I'm not using normal Wicd, I'm using wicd-nogtk from AUR.  Krychle, are you using this also?
Edit:  I think this has to do with the python update.  I updated wicd-nogtk and its good now.  I am online.

For this issue you need to set up SSFS.
1639578 - SSFS as password storage for primary database connect
I am new to SAP. I installed SAP ECC6 EHP4 with default kernel version 701 and it was working fine.
I have upgraded kernel version from 701 to 741
Are you sure kernel 741 is compatible with an EHP 4 system ?
    Read this SAP note

    Hi,
    1. Stop the DBConsole. (set ORACLE_SID first & ORACLE_HOME)
    cd %ORACLE_HOME%\bin
    emctl stop dbconsole
    2. Update the <ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emd.properties file.
    Change line from:
    tracelevel.main=WARN
    To
    tracelevel.main=DEBUG
Decomment this line, so that the line becomes :
    EMAGENT_PERL_TRACE_LEVEL=DEBUG
    3. Update the <ORACLE__HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emomslogging.properties
    Change line from:
    log4j.rootCategory=WARN, emlogAppender, emtrcAppender
    To
    log4j.rootCategory=DEBUG, emlogAppender, emtrcAppender
    4. Remove/backup all log files from ORACLE_HOME/<hostname_sid>/sysman/log
    5. Start the dbconsole and upload the output of each command
    - start the dbconsole: "emctl start dbconsole"
    - issue "emctl clearstate"
    - status the dbconsole: "emctl status dbconsole"
    - check the status of the agent until it comes up: "emctl status agent"
    - force an upload: emctl upload
    6. Check If you are able to view the dbconsole Page & login
check below logs may be you can see the close error messages to solve the issue.
    <ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/log directory
    <ORACLE_HOME>/<hostname_sid>/sysman/config/emoms.properties
Otherwise re-create the DBconsole using the metalink doc 278100.1 : How To Drop, Create And Recreate DB Control In A 10g Database. (Please check the steps from Recreate/ReConfig DB Control, if you want to re-create)
    Thanks.

My UPAD lite does not start after recent update. I have lots of info in it. Can anybody help me to get it back? Can I somehow undo the update? Thanks

    "UPAD lite?"
I expect that you mean some version of iPad.
First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Safari doesn't open after i updated it to 1.6.8

    Reinstall Safari 5.1.2
    Then restart your Mac.
If that doesn't help, you may have a third party add on that was compatible with the prior version of Snow Leopard, but not 10.6.8.
Troubleshooting help here >  Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
And try Safari in another user account. If you can't open Safari there as well, that's an indication the startup disk may need repairing.
Log back in to your admin account, launch Disk Utility. That's located in /Applications/Utilities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click: Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
Help for repairing the disk if necessary here > Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks
