VMware Fusion unrecoverable error: (vcpu-0)

After I installed the Mac OS X V10.6 Snow Leopard, I can't open the WMware as usual and it always freezes on the starting page with the message:
" NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/devices/mainmem/mainMemHosted.c:1967
A log file is available in "/Users/jhan/Documents/Virtual Machines.localized/Windows XP Home Edition.vmwarevm/vmware.log". Please request support and include the contents of the log file.
To collect files to submit to VMware support, run "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/vm-support.tool".
We will respond on the basis of your support entitlement."
Can anyone help? Thanks a lot!

i experience
NOT_IMPLEMENTED bora/devices/mainmem/mainMemHosted.c:1967
in the following VMs:
openbsd i386
openbsd amd64
winxp
under
VMware Fusion Version 1.1.1 (72241)
i went from 10.5.8 -> 10.6 -> 10.6.1 without trying vmware at the 10.6 level.

    Hi,
Please next time do not post a full log as content of the post, instead use the browse button to attach as file.
Also add a little bit of background information, like if you installed fresh, has it worked before, has anything changed, what is your host OS?
The relevant part in your log appears to be:
May 18 12:10:07.330: player-3900| Cnx_Connect: Error message: Failed to read vmware-authd port number: Cannot connect to VMX: C:\Users\Columbus\Documents\Virtual Machines\Windows XP Home Edition\Windows XP Home Edition.vmx

    May 18 12:10:07.423: player| ----Win32 exception detected, exceptionCode 0xc0000005 (access violation)----
Either you have some security software (firewall, antimalware, antivirus) not allowing VMware Player to connect to the vmware-authd port or your install is broken and you have to rerun the install (uninstall, reboot, install, reboot)

  • VMware Fusion 6 - errors on Mavericks

With the upgrade to Mavericks my previously perfectly fine and stable Windows7 virtual machine in VMware started to crash occasionally.
It happens after returning Mavericks from sleep: the virtual machine "encoutered an error" and I need to reboot it.
Observing this over time and for months now, I suspect this correlates with the widely known issue of Mavericks to resize windows when returning from sleep.
I have no hard evidence for this though - and it doesn't change the situation anyways.
    Reason opening this thread here:
VMware makes it virtually impossible to get any support although I purchased a full and latest and greatest Fusion 6 license - only in hope it will fix the issue.
Also I seem to be the only one encountering these kinds of errors.
Am I really the only one in this universe with this problem???
It's not a disasterous problem but a crashing Windows7 in Fusion is always a potential data loss of unsaved stuff... I want to have this fixed...
    thx
    josef

Hi josef, I also have fusion 6 and run vista & ubuntu vms but I never sleep the mac.
However... Vms can have odd issues depending upon how they are slept, restarted or shut down. The recommended way to do any of these is to do it in the VM before doing it to the host (that's how I do my shutdowns). i.e. do the sleep in Win7, then sleep the mac and the reverse when coming back... you may already be doing this but I wanted to check

    One detail:
I use Vcloud from my work, so I changed iPv4 addresses of machines. For example, DC1 192.168.2.101,
Internet names are 192.169.2.101 and so on.
I mean it is fine that IP addresses differ from mentioned in guide

  • Can't install arch in vmware fusion , /dev/tty7 error

I have the latest vmware fusion ,I downloaded the i686 core iso image.
I use vmware fusion (the latest)  i select the default options , when I get to setup if i select "auto prepare harddrive" it fails and tells me to see /dev/tty7 which I can't .
So i manually partition, and then when I select files to install I get the error "cannot start pacman see /dev/tty7"
So i thought maybe the disc image was bad, Ive downloaded the iso from different sites/sources with the same problem. It would seem vmware should be the easiest to install to.
I read the wiki but I don't understand, I have no other issues installing other linux distros in vmware fusion.

Ok got past the auto partition error issue, instead of selecting the first option to install arch from the live disc, select the 2nd option for IDE with no sata drivers in vmware fusion. I think it takes care of both problems

Yes, yes, all of the usual.  I'm posting here so just in case someone knows what usually causes this:
    Caught signal 11
If it's plist files that could cause it or running programs, etc.  I'm not looking for any assistance with standard troubleshooting techniques but thanks for the thought.
Eventually I'll either purchase it (since it works on my iMac just fine) and open a case or give up and stay with 3.1.3 until a later version comes out.
    Again thanks for the assistance.
    UPDATE:
Finally got access to VMTN, posted this below:

  • Vmware Fusion 3.0 and OSX 10.7.4

Vmware Fusion 3.0 was working fine until I upgraded to 10.7.4. After that it has stopped working and gives two or three errors about kernel space, etc and refuses to start.
A Windows 7 virtual machine was in a suspended state when I upgraded the OS. Was this a mistake and should I have completely quit Windows before updating? If so what is the way out now? Will it start working again if I delete the virtual machine and install Windows again?
    Thanks in advance

Thanks for your quick response, PAHU. However, I tried out your suggestion and, first of all, it wouldn't let me import the Virtual Machine which I had copied out to an external drive. The name of the file was just grayed out and it wouldn't let me click on it. Then I tried to create another Win 7 virtual machine and it came up with the same error messages as before. These messages, in sequence, are as follows:
"Unable to retrieve kernel zone sizes"
    "Failed to initialize monitor device"
"Cannot find a valid peer process to connect to"
The same messages appeared when I tried to create a Win XP Professional virtual machine.
As I said in my previous message, this has only started happening after I upgraded Mac OSX to 10.7.4. It was working fine up to 10.7.3.

  • VMWare Fusion VT support

When I try to boot Windows XP in VMware I get this error:
"VMWare Fusion has detected that your host system contains a mix of processors with incompatible VT feature sets.
Click Cancel to abort or OK to continue without using VT."
VMWare runs a heck of a lot faster on my MBP than on my 3GHZ 8-core Mac Pro. And that's just wrong!
I suspect that because VT is not enabled its falling back to software virtualization which is a lot slower.
Does anyone know a way to enable this? I tried various workarounds like sleeping the machine and then trying again already without luck
    thanks
    -hex.

We've had other threads asking about VT, which is appropriate to this forum.
I see you already asked Fusion Community, and didn't get any response that helped.
I only used 64-bit Vista, even in Fusion, sorry.
I had better luck looking up "Intel VT" in Google and Wiki.

    http://communities.intel.com/openport/blogs/server/2008/09/22/3d-graphics-in-vir tualization-using-intel-vtd-on-workstations
I recall some Mac Pro owners running Vista natively, and running Guest VMs in Vista which was interesting.

  • VMware Fusion question - Multiple Monitors

I apologize if this is in the wrong area, but I am desperate for some help. I have also posted this same question in the VMware communities but I have not had any luck with anyone responding yet.
It seems that I am having an issue with my virtual machine (windows XP) viewing in full screen or unity across my multiple monitor setup on my Mac Pro. Every time I go to view in full screen or unity I get a VMware popup warning/error that reads:
The virtual machine "Windows XP Professional" is configured for a smaller display size than the one your Mac is currently using. VMware Fusion needs to shut down your virtual machine to enable support for your Mac's display size in Full Screen. Do you want to shut down this virtual machine now?
I have two options, one to shut down, or one to go into full screen. If I go into full screen, full screen works with the correct resolution and everything looks great except its only in the one monitor (not the multiple monitor). If I shut down and restart the virtual machine and try to go to full screen I get the same error.
The VMware tools have been installed and I did go to the view, use all displays in full screen opiton.
My current setup is a mac pro with 3 monitors using 2 NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT Video Cards.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks

I found a link to a VMWare Knowledge Base entry about specifying video ram in Fusion 1. Maybe it is still true.

  • VMware Fusion with Oracle Data Integrator - 'View data' problem

I am running ODI and Oracle 10g Express Edition under XP (SP2) under VMware Fusion (Beta 3) on a Macbook Pro. (Already lost interest??)
    The packaged demo works fine..
I have created a set of tables with 10g and set up the ODI environment - physical & logical schemas, KMs etc. No problem. Successfully created reverse-engineered model from the tables. So far, fine.
When I try to view the data associated to the data stores I get error: Execution failed; ORA-00903: Invalid table name.
I have tried using different contexts etc. Obviously, the reverse engineering process can 'see' the tables..
    Any advice please?
    Many thanks, Steve.

    Hi,
I tried to install the essbase driver adapter on ODI, but I can't connect to Essbase using topology manager. Anyone know about essbase drivers for ODI. I used ODI 10.1.3.4.
    Thanks all.

    Sumardi

  • Bootcamp and VMWare Fusion, possible problem with Bootcamp, cant see USB.

    Hey,
Would really appreciate your help. So I have MBP mid 2010 with the latest version of OSX Mountain Lion and decided to install Windows 7 on it. I gave it to the professional IT guy, who installed Windows 7 through the latest version of VMWare Fusion. It is not bad overall, but at times incredible slow (which might be because of my slow processor).
So I decided to install Windows 7 through the BootCamp Assistant - USB way. And did the following steps:
1)Format USB, put Windows 7 .iso image on it
    2) Installed the latest Windows software through the Bootcamp (step2 tick). However, it said that the latest version would be installed only after Windows 7 is installed (in step3 tick). I clicked OK and moved to Step 3
    3) I started Installing Windows and had a few errors (which were solved by repairing the HDD after rebooting in recovery mode), but all went fine until almost the end. Before the bar almost moved to the end my macbook went to reboot and I though it was all done and ready. I clicked the alt at *ding* sound and no USB was detected.
I checked disk utility and the thing was portioned.
I was thinking that MBP doesn't recognize the second Windows installed, and VMWare Fusion needs to be deleted in order to run Bootcamp. I haven't deleted anything, wanted to ask for advice first.
Any one could think of what's wrong? Thank you.

You can only install Windows from a USB in one of these computers:
    - MacBook Pro with Retina display.
    - MacBook Air.
    - Mac mini (Mid 2010 and newer).
    - iMac (Late 2012).
Your Mac doesn't support the Windows installation through a USB drive. However, you have installed Windows through a USB drive. What did you do?
You did an EFI installation (or a native installation). Apple doesn't support this option because of the huge number of problems it gives, and you have probably erased OS X (or you erased the Windows partition that Boot Camp created, both possibilities). The error you mentioned in 3) was probably that the Windows installer detected that you have a MBR disk instead of a GPT one, and you erased everything.
First of all, to make sure that you erased everything, hold the Option (Alt) key while your Mac is starting. If you see the OS X partition, start up from it, and make a complete backup of your files with Time Machine.
Then, what I recommend you is to erase the whole drive by starting in Internet Recovery (hold Command, Option and R keys while your Mac is starting), and use the Time Machine option to restore your files

  • Help with VMware Fusion please!

Hello. I have purchased the full version of VMware Fusion 1.1.2 and installed it on my MacBook running Mac OS X 10.5.2. I also have Windows XP SP2 installed via Boot Camp, which works fine. When I open VMware Fusion, in the list box labelled "Virtual Machines:", there is one virtual machine listed -- "Boot Camp partition", which is obviously the virtual machine I want to run.
Here's the problem -- when I click on it and hit the "Run" button, a dialog box comes up with a progress bar that says it is preparing my computer for the virtual machine or something like that and that this will only happen once. It asks me to put in my administrator password, and after I do, an error message comes up that says: "A failure occurred during processing. An unknown error occurred." -- or something along those lines. This was before I updated to 1.1.2. Now, having updated it to 1.1.2, when I try to run the Virtual Machine, I get a different error. This time it comes up before I'm asked to enter my administrator password, and this time it says: "Could not create virtual disk for your Boot Camp virtual machine."
Can someone please help me figure out what is wrong here. I should mention that I also have Parallels Desktop (it was a gift) installed, which works absolutely fine. I would like to see the difference between Parallels and Fusion, and since I paid for it, I'd like it to work. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Help! Vmware Fusion and windows vista suck up memory fast.

    Hi,
I'm running windows Vista x64 Edition through vmware fusion (v2.0) on my macbook (intel 2.4 ghz) and its sucking up memory really fast. I don't have any snapshots and for the moment the virtual machine takes up about 26 gb of my memory. Everytime I start windows with vmware I immediately lose about 1gb of free space on my macbook, which I then recover after closing down vmware, so I guess that's normal. However my memory keeps on decreasing constantly when using vista, without me doing anything else than using internet explorer (no gaming or downloads) and I never get that memory back. I can't seem to understand what causes this constant and rapid memory loss (it can go up to 2gb of memory loss in an hour). (I also get an error message when starting vmware stating :"serial0: Failed to connect to the Virtual Printer daemon after 25 attempts.", but I think its irrelevant).
Here are some specifics on how i set the settings for vmware:
    * Processor: 1 virtual processor - RAM: 1084 MB -Autoprotect:disabled -Hard Disk: SCSI Bus type, 40GB disk size, pre-allocate disk space unchecked, Split into 2GB files checked.
I also tried entering the windows Vista x64 Edition in my virtual machine library by right-clicking and selecting "show package content". I noticed there were files named "Windows Vista x64 Edition-s0xx.vmdk", ranging from "Windows Vista x64 Edition-s001.vmdk" to "Windows Vista x64 Edition-s021.vmdk" and files named "Windows Vista x64 Edition-000001-s0xx.vmdk" ranging from "Windows Vista x64 Edition-000001-s001.vmdk" to "Windows Vista x64 Edition-000001-s021.vmdk". These files take up most of the 26GB of memory of my virtual machine.
I would be grateful for any suggestions as my vmware fusion is rendered useless by this problem (under 2,2GB of free space on your computer you can't even start the virtual machine so I've had to delete tons of stuff to keep it running) and I badly need vista for my studies.
    Thank you for your help!

  • VMware Fusion and Apple LED Cinema Display

I have a 2008 MBP and a 27" Apple LED Cinema Display. My OS is 10.7.2.
I am running Windows 7 with the latest updates in VMWare Fusion 4.1.1. I have several issues.
    1) When I go to chose my monitor it say Apple LED Cinema Display but "Generic Non-PnP Monitor." I downloaded and installed the boot camp drivers as I understood those contained the drivers for the monitor, but that didn't seem to help. Do I need to have the Boot Camp drivers?
    2) When I try to access the Boot Camp Control panel in Windows 7 in Fusion I get "An error occured while tyring to access the startup disk settings. You may not have privileges to change the startup disk." My guess is this is because the Boot Camp drivers are only needed if you actualy run Boot Camp.
    3) In Windows I cannot choose the native resolution of the Apple display (2560 x 1440).
    4) The resolution ia 1277 x 1234. That is weird.
    5) If I minimze the Fusion window and then immediately open it, it looks fine. But if I wait for awhile and open it, the window will be black until I click inside of it.
Something is wrong, Any help in fixing this would be greatly appreciated.
    Bryan

you have to separate out what is Fusion and what is Windows native.
Even doing updates to Windows sometimes should not or cannot be done properly in VM.
And there is no way to change the default boot drive - a VM doesn't have access and that is the host OS's job, not the guest's.
Install the latest AMD driver for mobility - and dont' use the "auto detect" - that is not going to work on Apple hardware.
You dont' run Boot Camp. But the Apple drivers and serives needed for hardware support, yes, they aren't running or loaded.

  • VMware Fusion+BootCamp= disaster?

    Hi to all,
it seems that Boot Camp doesn't work under Leopard 10.5.2 on my MBP 2.2ghz(2008) after
installing VMware Fusion and a virtual machine.
Today i'm trying to make a small partition with Boot Camp , needed to run my backtrack3 linux flavor directly control my hardware, but i enjoy many errors.
In Boot Camp it resolves in a system freeze plus an hard disk space loss (5GB in my case).
Booting form Leopard DVD , running DU, repair Disk (5GB lost turns available), partitioning from here , it resolves in an erorr message after 15 minutes that i haven't enought space on disk to make it. Of course i have it (70GB free on 120GB HD).
Ok, i can always try to erase my HD, spit it , and reinstall Leopard , setup first Boot Camp then install VMware, maybe it works.....
but anyone has a solution for this issue?
    thanks

Why or where did you install a utility to "find" drivers?
Go through Programs and uninstall it.
Also, is this happening in Fusion? because if it is then I don't see it as related to Boot Camp (installing Windows natively on a Mac).  you are running Windows in Fusion, and using Windows you installed on its own hard drive. "Boot Camp" isn't something that runs anything.
Did you post to VMware Fusion Community?
