Vmware not fully recognizing USB-9213

Hi All:
I am running VMware Fusion 2.0.7 hosting WinVista SP2.  I plug in a USB-9213, and I only get a partial recognition of the device.  I get the New Hardware Found for the 9216 carrier module, but never the same for the 9213 module connected in the carrier.  Of course this means DAQmx and MAX don't see the device to let me use it.  I can install successfully a virtual 9213 in MAX, but I can't get the real device fully installed.  VMWare is running in Mac OS 10.5.8, and the USB is configured so VMWare can see it and use it as the partial New Hardware Found path seems to show.  Any ideas how to get through the last hurdle?  I know the USB-9213 is good, since it installs and runs fine in WinXP machine I have access to.

Hi Brad:
I just finished upgrading to MAX 4.6.2 and DAQmx 9.0.2.  (Should I look for even newer versions?)  This represents progress, as the NI-9213 is now seen in Device Manager (and System Profiler on the Mac side), but it is still not seen in MAX.  I could create a simulated NI-9213 in my older versions, and I still can, but the one I create now does not work while the old simulated one did work.  The new simulated NI-9213 always fails Self-Test.  (And deleting the simulated device hangs MAX.  It can be deleted only on the restart of MAX)  The fact that I could create a working simulated NI-9213 under the older DAQmx version 8.8 had led me to believe that I had a new enough version.  The basic issue is still there though, I can not see the real NI-9213 in MAX, so I can not use it in LabVIEW.  It does not matter if I have the simulated NI-9213 present or not in MAX, the real one is never seen there, but it is always seen by Device Manager now.  The simulated one has also gone invisible to LabVIEW while the older one could be used there.  By the way, sorry for being dyslexic yesterday when I kept typing 9123 instead of 9213.

  • Left USB Not Fully Recognized

I seem to have issues with my left USB port in that it doesn't seem to get recognized by the system properly. The right USB port works perfectly every time.
The best example of this is when I plug in my USB cable from my iPhone to the left USB port, iPhoto will not recognize the iPhone and show it in the source column. iTunes will sync without throwing any errors on the screen. This happens every time.
Another example is when I plug in my Logitech USB optical wheel mouse in the left port. Many applications (photoshop most obviously) will not fully recognize the mouse in that I can't do multiple layer selections via the Layers palette by shift clicking a second layer.
I'm using the latest version of the Logitech Control Center software and my system is completely up to date.
    Any ideas?

Sometimes a Power Management Unit (PMU) reset will fix USB problems on one side or the other. See http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=14449

  • Help! BIOS not fully recognizing system devices

Hi. I am building a new computer with 512mb DDR generic RAM, MSI K7N2 Delta-ISLR, Athlon XP2500+, Maxtor 120gb hard drive, TDK VeloCD cd-rw drive. My problem is that
1-The Bios does not fully recognize the cd drive but instead garbles the name with slashes. Needless to say it will not read from the drve either.
2-The Bios fails to recognize the floppy drive at all and claims it is not there.
Both components are confirmed working in another computer. I'm at my wit's end; the only thing I could possibly think of are the cables, but then I was using the floppy drive cable successfully elsewhere and the cd drive cable is brand new. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong??

sorry got carried away with the 5's and the little dots.
15 Amps on the 12v is a bit week even for integrated video but should not give you these problems at least at boot.
I have an Allied 300w running my old K7n420 with no probs with similar amps.
If th RAM peformed flawlessly in your other system, what chipset was it? nVidia is another beast entirely.
Where did you buy that RAM? do they have a website?

  • 2 different expresscard/34s with 2 firewire 800 ports are not fully recognized on new macbook pro 17" under lion

We have 2 expresscard/34s, a Belkin ec1394b2 and a Startech "FireWire 800 ExpressCard". Both are "reported" to suppport OS X but neither does more than show "PCI FireWire 800 ExpressCard" in the available interfaces list in Network Preferences with a status of "Not Connected". In the System Information report under "FireWire Device tree" it shows the built-in FW 800 port as "FireWire Bus"  with a drop down arrow which expands to the proper hard/software dtails and then "FireWire Bus" with no dropdown arrow, no more info.
Now that I have them I see no reference to mac or OS X but I've seen a number of reviews of these cards from OS X users who claim to be using them happily. It's a long weekend so everyones tech support is gone gone gone. Any suggestions?

    A) It seems your problem is an hardware failure. It happens and I don't think the way you use Firewire devices is the cause of that problem. It's just bad luck. That said, it's probably a good thing to use the power supply of your hard drive instead of bus-power.
    B) If you want a new computer and you don't need something portable, I think the iMac is an excellent choice for the price. Over a Macbook Pro, you'll gain a bigger screen, FW400 port, etc, and you'll pay less than if you buy a laptop.
    C) If you still want to go with a laptop, you can hook the Duet to your hard drive but I don't think the bus will be able to power both devices. Therefore, you'll absolutely need to use your hard drive's power supply.

  • Hard drive not fully recognized.

Recently replaced a failing hard drive in my HPE-580t with a new WD Black 3 TB unit.  Also, did a clean install of Win 7 Professional 64 bit.
Disk Manager shows unallocated 746.52 GB.  Ability to convert Disk 0 to GPT is grayed out (not allowed).  Internet searching makes me think it might be the motherboard bios.  However I have the most recent bios according to HP .
Saw in the HP forums that the motherboard (IPMTB-TK (Truckee)) may be problematic with a limited recall.
    What should I do?

I found this at the Seagate site: http://knowledge.seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/218619en
Support for Disk Drives Beyond 2.2 TeraBytes (TB) and 4K Advanced Format Sectors
Discussion of and instructions for updating your computer to be able to use the entire capacity of your larger-than-2TB internal drive.
Most legacy systems built before 2011 have a traditional PC BIOS. This type of BIOS uses a Master Boot Record (MBR). The MBR Partitions can define a disk drive capacity up to 2.2TB. Windows operating systems that boot from an MBR are therefore limited to 2.2TB per MBR. A 3TB disk drive in a legacy BIOS and Window system will need a DiscWizard device driver to access the full capacity of a 3TB disk drive. Two partitions will be necessary because of the MBR limitation. The device driver mounts the capacity above 2.2TB with another MBR which looks to the system as a second virtual “physical” device.
GUID Partition Tables (GPT) can define drives larger than 2.2TB. You can use GPT today on any Windows 7 and Vista system as a non-booting data drive. Windows can only boot a GPT partition on a new type of BIOS called UEFI.
UEFI BIOS desktop systems are new since 2011. Windows 7 64-bit and Vista 64-bit operating systems support booting from UEFI and GPT without the need of a non-Microsoft device driver. This is the Windows native solution for booting a 3TB drive to a single partition.
Quick facts about Windows and 3TB drives:
Windows 7 and Vista support GPT 3TB single partitions
Windows 7 and Vista can only boot GPT on systems with UEFI BIOS
Windows 7 and Vista can mount a GPT non-booting data drive
Intel RST device drivers before v10.1 do not support 3TB disk drives
Windows systems with Legacy BIOS and MBR boot drives are limited to 2.2TB partitions
Windows XP does not support GPT
Windows XP sees a 3TB drive as 800GB on boot or data drives
DiscWizard software can install a device driver which opens the full capacity of a 3TB. You can use it to create a second partition for the capacity above 2.2TB
This was really helpful because it had a video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OX6CGDVUYrA&feature=youtu.be
Now I downloaded DiscWizard, however it only worked with Seagate Hard Drives.  Unfortunately, my new drive was a 3TB Western Digital.
Acronis, who made DiscWizard for Seagate, also makes Acronis True Image WD Edition. (note - both DiscWizard and Acronis True Image WD Edition are free).  Acronis True Imaged WD Edition works very similar as described in the DiscWizard video.
The unallocated 746.52GB now shows as  a F: Drive.

  • External USB hard drive not being recognized

Hello! I'm sure this has been posted before, but excuse my naivety with this sort of thing...
I have a mac mini 10.5.6 (1.83 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo) and I run the Time Machine function to an external usb hard drive. The hard drive worked fine (plugged into the usb port on an older keyboard), but I went out and bought a new aluminum apple keyboard (because they look so cool ^_^ ) - I plugged the external usb drive into the keyboard and it wasn't recognized, so I tried plugging the external drive directly into the mac mini, but it is still not recognized. It is not showing up in Disk Utility or in System Profiler
Help? I'd hate to have to give up this fancy keyboard...
    Thank you!
    Dr. E

I believe I had my external drive plugged into the (old) keyboard because with the old mac that I had didn't have a free usb port for it - so when I got the mini I just plugged things back in where they were. But I have always had the Time Machine back up to this drive (connected to the keyboard) though it has been slow (another reason I thought the new keyboard was a good idea).
I tried restarting the computer without the alu keyboard plugged in, but same problem of no drive showing up.
Here is what System Profiler has to say about my drive:
    USB2.0 Storage Device:
    Capacity: 93.16 GB
    Removable Media: Yes
    Detachable Drive: Yes
    BSD Name: disk1
    Product ID: 0x6830
    Vendor ID: 0x04b4 (Cypress Semiconductor)
    Version: 0.01
    Serial Number: DEF107920F07
    Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec
    Manufacturer: Cypress Semiconductor
    Location ID: 0x3d130000
    Current Available (mA): 100
    Current Required (mA): 0
    Mac OS 9 Drivers: No
Partition Map Type: GPT (GUID Partition Table)
    S.M.A.R.T. status: Not Supported
    Volumes:
    USB:
    Capacity: 92.84 GB
    Available: 53.14 GB
    Writable: Yes
    File System: Journaled HFS+
    BSD Name: disk1s2
    Mount Point: /Volumes/USB
I don't know the brand or model as it has 'always' been in the case that in which it currently resides and I didn't physically buy the thing :\ I do know that no software was installed with the drive as I assumed that when I put all the old info from the original mac to the mini that it was the sort of thing that would carry over.
Sorry I'm not terribly helpful - Thank you!
    Dr. E

  • Ipod nano 3rd gen. is not being recognized by my computer or itunes, it comes up as a USB drive, the cable is fine

My ipod nano is not being recognized in iTunes or in Windows, it only shows up as a USB and when i plug it in it says 'do not disconnect'
This happened after I put the ipod nano in Philips Ipod speakers.
I've reset the ipod mulitple times, uninstalled and reinstalled itunes, restarted my computer, and I can't restore the ipod because it doesnt register on my computer and it doesn't show up in itunes, but for some reason it still says dont disconnect.
    What should I do??

just hold down the “-” button and the power button. when it says “ok to disconnect” hold down the powerbutton and the “-” button again.

My iPod shuffle is not being recognized by my computer. It is flashing orange and when plugged in with the original USB cable nothing happens to show the computer recognizes it.

Flashing orange usually means it is being recognized by the computer.  The flashing means do not disconnected, because the shuffle's "disk" is mounted.
In iTunes (with the shuffle connected), when you look in the sidebar (left side of window), under DEVICES, the iPod is not shown there?  Does it say DEVICES in the sidebar?

  • My Iphone 3gS is not being recognized in Itunes on my laptop. It is charging so the USB port is working properly. My wifes Iphone IS being recognized by the same laptop. My Iphone IS being recognized by the desktop computer and another laptop

My Iphone is not being recognized in Itunes on my laptop. It is charging, so the USB port is working. My Iphone does work on another Laptop in the house and My wifes Iphone is being recognized on the same laptop that mine is not. Any suggestions?

The key bit of information here is that one iPhone works on the computer in question and another does not. So it is unlikely that AMDS is not running or there is a driver problem; if either of these was the problem neither phone would be recognized in iTunes.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer either. Except to verify that both iPhones (the one that works and the one that doesn't) use the same cable and the same USB port.
Also, are the two iPhones the same model and same iOS version?

  • USB Device Not Recognized - USB device attached has malfunctioned & Windows does not recognize it

I have an HP Pavilion dv4 Notebook running Windows 7 Home Premium and the USB ports worked fine for an HP deskjet printer and an older Casio digital camera. Then one day, the laptop decided not to recognize the Casio digital camera and gave the error message "USB Device Not Recognized" and also indicated that the device attached to the computer has malfunctioned. This prompted me to buy a new Canon digital camera. Well, a new camera did not fix the problem. Now, anything connected to either of the 2 USB ports will not be recognized by my laptop. Help!  I'm at a loss to figure this out.  I've tried the suggested Microsoft help below:
Suggestion 1: For the issue with USB devices, uninstall and re-install all the USB controllers. This lets the controllers recover the USB port from its unresponsive condition.
The USB controllers represent the USB ports in Device Manager.
    a. Click Start, type device manager in the Start search box and hit Enter.
    b. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
Note: You might have to scroll down the list to find this item.
    c. Right-click the first USB controller under Universal Serial Bus controllers, and then click Uninstall to remove it.
    d. Repeat the above step for each USB controller that is listed under Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    e. Restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically scan for hardware changes and reinstall all the USB controllers that you uninstalled.
    f. Check the USB device to see whether it is working.
This did not correct the problem.  Then from device manager, I tried updating drivers on all the USB controllers and root hubs. While some may have received downloaded software updates, it still did not correct the USB device not recognized problem after restarting the computer.  I'm hoping someone knows of the fix to this situation and can pass it along to me. Thanks for reading and posting any help.

    Hey 655micha,
I'm sorry you're having an issue with a USB device. Do you get an error window that pops up? If so what does it say? Have you checked Device Manager? Is is just one device that isn't working? Has it ever worked before? Is it just one USB port in particular that isn't recognizing devices?
What model do you have? Here are the steps to find your product number. FN + ESC is the easiest way to find that information.

  • USB, Firewire ports not being recognized?

Recently, I've been having trouble using my USB and firewire ports. I have a 1TB WD external hard drive which has been working fine until about a month ago when it stopped being recognized when I connected it through Firewire. I thought maybe my firewire cable or port was bad so I tried hooking it up through the USB port and it still didn't recognize that it was connected. After playing with it for a while, I finally got it to back it up.
Tonight I connected a thumb drive and it is not being recognized either.
Both ports are being recognized it Disk Utility and in System Profiler, and the USB ports work when I use them to charge my phone and Ipod all the time.
    Any suggestions?

Well now I feel a little silly..
I have tried using it on another computer and it was recognized just fine.
However, I have not tried manually mounting my WD hard drive and when I went to try to that, it worked just fine right away, without doing anything.
I then tried the thumb drive again and when I tried to mount it, it came up with this error:
"The disk “UDISK” could not be mounted.
Try running First Aid on the disk and then retry mounting."
So I ran First Aid and it came up with this error:
"Disk Utility stopped verifying “UDISK” because the following error was encountered:
    Filesystem verify or repair failed."
The details say that the "File system is left marked as dirty."
So I guess there must be something wrong with the thumb drive, although it seemed to work fine on my PC.

  • Xserve unlocked but still not recognizing usb peripherals

I have an Xserve which does not recognize any usb attached peripherals, even though it is unlocked from the front panel.
In addition the PC monitor is also not recognizing it, and get no video output on it.
Has anyone else experienced the same issue? How to further diagnose/resolve this problem?

When I go to Disk Utility, my mac recognizes it, but when I try to repair and verify it says that it failed.
Sounds like it's very badly damaged, and it may be too much to expect the data to still be intact. However, you can try repairing it with a more powerful utility, like [DiskWarrior|http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/index.html] or [TechTool Pro|http://www.micromat.com>. If neither of those can fix it, then your only options will be using a data recovery tool, such as [Data Rescue|http://www.prosofteng.com> or [File Salvage|http://subrosasoft.com/OSXSoftware/index.php?mainpage=product_info&productsid=1], or paying an expensive data recovery service to disassemble the drive and recover what they can.
Of course, this would all have been avoided if you had backups of your data. In the future, you must have a minimum of three copies of any data you don't want to lose.
