VMWare Player 5.0 doesn't start

I have updated VMWare to version 5.0 and since then I cannot make it work. I have followed the instructions in the wiki. The symlinks are created, the kernel modules patched and built, vmware service is started, but when I start the graphical interface and launch a virtual machine, the graphical interface exits and no virtual machine pops up
I tried reinstalling, and now each time I try to install it, it doesn't ask me where to put the system service scripts, and I always get the same results . If I try to start the VM again, I get "The virtual machine is busy" errors until I reboot the entire system.
Any suggestions?

did you ever got it to run, I am on the same scenario? when I run it on terminal i get this as soon I try to start a windows machine on the vmplayer console.

  • VMWare doesn't start after kernel update

    Hello,
I've just updated my kernel to 3.10.0-997-generic. After that VMWare Player doesn't start anymore.
I've tried to run patches and different solutions I found in google, but it didn't worked yet.
This is the log of my last attempt.
    Thanks in advance

  • [SOLVED] VMware player, network doesn't work

    Hi!
I installed VMware player through AUR and it works well. But when I started my vm (Debian 4.0) it asked if I had copied or moved it. I chose "I copied it" because I copied it from my hdd to external hdd. I started my vm but network didn't work. I configured network using vmware-config.pl file like it recommended (vmnet0 as bridged with my wlan0 and vmnet8 as NAT. I also chose to use host-only networking in my vm's (wmaster0)). How did you guys configured your network succesfully?
I just want it to work like on my windows box. It has it's own IP and I can connect to it's IP directly from firefox. Yeah, I run webserver on that vm.

    My ifconfig:

Using MacOS X 10.7.2 on a MacBookPro 2,2 GHz, Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM. My problem on this machine: the QT Player 7.6.6 doesn't start up anymore. It "tries", then close down. Anyone any idea what I could do? (other machines (iMacs) in my office work fine with the same software package)...

    Hello,
New to this forum as it has a burning question: after years we have 2 PowerMac G4 divide have now bought an iMac G5 so we want to share with the G4. Now we get only the old Mac does not boot. Several combinations tried but nothing works. Alternately, we get a bluescreen with arrows or a gray screen with a folder with question mark. Any ideas what we can do? Apple itself does not support more equipment from 7 years and / or older. It is also possible to the network or something, I have not connected. The iMac G5 also running 10.4.11.
    Any help is welcome!
    Regards and thanks already.

  • VMware player won't start after kernel update

    Hi,
today I've updated to 3.9.6-1 kernel and all went good. So I wanted to start my vmware player to start a vm. Of course I've done the needed steps in the vmplayer wiki page to setup the new headers and stuff after kernel update for vmplayer. Also I've ran "vmware-patch -f" and ran trough. But still get an error when I wanted to start the player in the "/tmp/vmware-root/vmware-modconfig-11986.log":

  • VMware Player and mouse not behaving correctly with the vmmouse driver

I'm running Arch on VMware Player and having problems with the mouse behavior.
    - Arch is updated, 32 -bit
    - VMware Player 6.0.1
    - Host is Windows 8.1 64-bit
    - XFCE 4.10
If I install xf86-input-vmmouse, the following happens:
    - If cursor touches the edge of the screen when scrolling a window with the scroll bar, scrolling stops. If I continue pressing the mouse button and moving the mouse (and not touching any edges), the scrolling starts working again after two seconds.
    - When opening any new window, hovering and clicking will register only after two seconds. This is very noticeable when opening the application menu and trying to launch any app - first click never works.
Uninstalling the vmmouse driver fixes the above problems. The mouse "feeling" gets very bad though, it seems jumpy and the acceleration is crazy and can't be tweaked to be satisfactory with the mouse settings. With vmmouse the mouse feels otherwise just fine.
Installing or uninstalling Open-VM-Tools doesn't do anything.
I tried this, but it had no effect: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … s_expected
Happens both in fullscreen and windowed, scrolling behavior happens every time, hover/click lag is not so predictable (seems to happen 50 % of the time).
Might there be any easy fix for this?

Hi Sung, Thanks for your reply.
    Leonardo:
If I understand your msg correctly, I'm wondering if
the data model as you described is complete.
You state that you have MaintenanceType, Maintenance,
and MaintenanceOrder, but don't you need
MaintenanceOrderLine?MaintenanceOrderLine is what I'm calling Maintenance. A Maintenace record is used just to link a MaintenanceOrder to a MaintenanceType
    >
Otherwise, you say that you removed all Maintenance's
in step 2). How did you form a list of all
Maintenance's in step 4)? How do you form this
    list?
was raised due to unique constraint violationAt step 3) I'm using a view object, MaintenanceTypeView, to create a list of checkboxes, one for each MaintenanceType.
At step 4), for each MaintenanceType selected in the form, I'm creating a new Maintenance using:
//All codes of maintenance types, that already have a
//respective maintenance record in the db, have already
//been remove from the maintenancesToInsert list at this
    //point
    for (Iterator iter = maintenancesToInsert.iterator(); iter.hasNext();) {
    MaintenanceViewRow maintenanceRow = (MaintenanceViewRow) maintenanceView.createRow();
    maintenanceRow.setMaintenanceTypeCode(Integer.valueOf((String)iter.next()));
    maintenanceView.insertRow(maintenanceRow);

  • [Solved]Vmware Player - Blocking File System not fails to load

All the mods load fine, except Vmblock.
this is what i get when i run vmplayer.
make: *** /tmp/modconfig-NtGU4D/vmblock-only: No such file or directory. Stop.
    Starting VMware Services:
    Virtual machine monitor....
    (finishes loading without problems)
i suspect this has to do with the fact that i couldn't patch it following the wiki's guide (vmnet patched fine).
I have the latest vmware player and the current arch linux kernel  (3.10.7-1)
The patch doesn't seem to find the file it's meant to patch.
I'd also like to know if i can safely ignore this.
Edit: I suspect i just made a failure during the installation, i reinstalled it and it loaded this time... i think.

Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?
Besides, I installed Arch on Dell Studio XPS 1640 and I don't seem tobe able to remove the hard block on my Wifi card. I installed all the driver already. This is the output of commands.

I even try to include this inside modprobe but it doesn't work.
    [root@swallowed Desktop]# cat /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf

    options iwlcore led_mode=1
    Thank you so much!

vmware products need patching for kernel 2.6.35 - you didn't mention if you did that or not, but if you didn't, that would explain why vmware is not starting.

  • Translate from vmware player to vmware workstation 9

    Hello team,
I have a strange problem when translating a VM running on my previous XP PC with vmware player (Os Linux red hat with Oracle 11g for the VM) to Vmware Workstation 9 running on my next Windows 8 PC.
The VM is composed of 2 disks.
How I proceed this operation :
1 : Copy the 2 disks on the according directory.
2 : Create the VM using these 2 disks.
3 : Starts the VM (OK).
4 : Run the Oracle Database (KO).
An error Oracle message below :
    SQL> startup
    ORA-24324: service handle not initialized
    ORA-24323: value not allowed
    ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
    SQL>
The VM has been created with the same caracteristics as in Vmware Player (4.01 build-528992) running on Notebook Dell Windows 7), 2 cpus.
The VM has been created on my new Notebook in Windows 8.
The difference between thes 2 Notebooks is perhaps the processor (Intel Core i7-2760QM CPU @ 2.40GHz, 4 coeurs, 8 processors) for the original Notebook, and in the target Notebook (Processeur AMD A8-4500M APU with Radeon (tm) HD Graphics, 1900 MHz, 4 coeur(s), 4 processeur(s) logique(s).
At this time, I don't find any real solution from Oracle Web sites.
Perhaps, have you any response to this problem ?
Thank's a lot for your feed back.

Thank's a lot for your feed back.I can assure you that
    - Oracle knows nothing about the underlying hardware
    - Oracle knows nothing about VMplayer vs. VMworkstation
    - Oracle doesn't even know it's running on a vm.
    - Oracle is too dumb to lie about its error messages.
And since you vm itself successfully started after the migration, you should quit wasting your time worrying about that and trust the oracle error message as reported. Work the message exactly as you would if it were running on a physical machine.
What is the OS of the VM?
    What version of Oracle?

  • My MacBook Pro 15,4" doesn't start at all!

    Hi everyone!
Today morning, normal day, after having my MacBook Pro charging all night (as always), I took it (without any cables) in the kitchen, in order to, very surprising, turn it on!
But nothing happens!! Checking battery status: ok (new), removing it and trying without, still nothing. I tried all reset techniques, as well as Ctrl + Cmd + Start button. But still nothing.
    What is happening?
When I press the button, I hear the DVD player making his little "clac-clac", the fan is starting, and the light as well, but as soon as I take my finger off the start button, it stops again! If I keep my finger longer on the button, it stops as well after a while (normal forced stop), but the "gong" never sound.
Can anyone help me with this? Where does it come from? I'm a computer technician, and fixed a lot of laptops, but when it comes to Apple, I panic, and I don't know what to do anymore! I'm always a bit scared to open it myself...
Maybe I should add that it's making some noise on the right fan since 2 months (as if a plastic piece was blocked inside), some kind of "clac, clac, clac", and it was getting really warm sometimes. The DVD-player is also a bit "curved", and it's problematic to extract the discs sometimes.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Cheers,
    Ron.

    Hi everyone!
    Thanks for the answers.
@Advanced User: I haven't tried that yet, but I will tonight. And I found a Store in my town, in case I cant solve it myself.
@eww: I always buy original parts, even more by Apple. Of yourse I tried without the battery. All the basic tests were done. I also opened the machine and test electrically if anything was interupted. But I couldn't find anything. I must say my son (2 years old) found it very funny last week-end to play piano (pretty strongly) on the keyboard of the MB... But I don't think he broke something, otherwise I'd be really disappointed in a 2000€ notebook...
The exact model of the MacBook is MB133D/A, and I cant access any System Profiler, because the MacBook.... doesn't start! The battery was still holding 3 hours.

that aren't used by traditional PC keyboards. The spacebar sends the D key, and some keys send nothing at all. Many other keys work properly, including the client-side numeric keypad, and uppercase letters sent by using the Shift key (but not the iPad up-arrow
shift key). The only way to send the proper keystrokes to VMware Player from MRD 8.1.5 is to not use the client-side iPad keyboard and instead switch to the on-screen keyboard provided by the remote Windows server.
This problem only occurs within the VMware Player console app, and only with RDP connections that use the MRD 8.1.5 client on iOS. I do not encounter the problem with other iOS RD clients such as iFreeRDP by Thinstuff or Pocket Cloud Remote Desktop by Wyse.
    Steps to reproduce:
Connect to Windows 8.1 Pro system from the MRD 8.1.5 client for iOS 8.1.1
Using the client-side iPad keyboard within MRD 8.1.5, bring up the Run dialog by typing Windows-R
Launch Notepad by typing notepad.exe in the Run dialog and pressing Enter on the client-side iPad keyboard
Type some sample text in Notepad until you're confident that the client-side iPad keyboard is functioning properly
Launch VMware Player 6 and start up a VM (mine was Windows Server 2008)
Open the sign-on prompt in the VM by sending Ctrl-Alt-Ins from the client-side keyboard or by pressing the Ctrl-Alt-Del icon in VMware Player
Touch or click in the password field in the VM to ensure it has keyboard focus
Using the client-side keyboard, try to type letters or numbers in the password field, and notice that dots generally do not appear for most keypresses
Switch to the server-side on-screen keyboard and delete the contents of the password field if it is not already empty
Use the server-side on-screen keyboard to sign on to the VM
Inside the VM, open Notepad or some other text editor
Enter text into the editor from both the client-side and server-side keyboards to verify that only the server-side keyboard is functioning properly within the VM
This issue is the only problem I'm having with MRD for iOS, and I hope it is resolved soon.
    Thanks,
    Fred

  • Portege R-400 3G modem freezes VMWare Player 3.0 in Windows 7

    Hi all,
I have a following problem need your help.
I have a Portege R-400 with 3G modem build-in. It is installed Windows 7. Everything is fine until I install the VMWare Player 3.0.
Without 3G modem connection, every application still works very well. (I use WiFi most time.)
When I am not able use WiFi and connect with 3G, without starting VMWare Player, the system is frozen in 5 to 20 minutes.
The sympton is no any response for keypad and mouse, but can see HD light in flashing.
Next, I will try Virtual PC from microsoft. It may have same problem, too.
It will be very appreciated if there is any solution for this problem.
    Many Thanks!
    Mike

    Thanks, Dr. Lamp.
I fully agree your analysis. So, over the weekend, I re-install the windows 7 system. Unfortunately, this problem remains.
    From my experience,
    1. this problem is isolated in 3G HSDPA modem.
    2. the 3G modem meeds to be connected.
    3. there is no any other connection available.
So, the potential problems are in:
    1. 3G modem driver.
    2. The way of the host machine (Windows 7) acceses and manages the 3G modem.
    3. The way of VMWare acceses 3G modem.

  • Anyone succeded in installing VMware-Player 3.1.5?

I tried the same thing as for 3.1 and didn't succeeded. I looked at that previous post: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=100128

Did anyone try to install VMware player using the official installer?
When it asks for the system services directory I give it "/etc/rc.d"
    After installation:
No rc*.d style init script directories were given to the installer. You must manually add the necessary links to ensure that the vmware service at /etc/rc.d/vmware is automatically started and stopped on startup and shutdown.
I think the crucial part is to
    # mkdir -p /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/rc{0,1,2,3,4,5,6}.d
    # mkdir /etc/rc.d/vmware.d/init.d
I just wonder if a dummy vmware-package could be constructed which just does that. There would be the benefit that these directories could also be easily removed.

  • Problem installing Free BSD 64-bit with VMware Player on Thinkpad W510

I installed VM Ware Player on the latest Thinkpad W510 with a 2.66ghz Intel processor. I am getting an error message indicating that the CPU doesn't support long mode. I was advised by the freenode #freeBSD channel that long mode is x86_64/amd64/emt64. This same channel also suggested that I tell vmware it was a 64bit guest. But I don't know how to do this. How do I do this? VMware Player didn't offer me any user options during the install. Is this something I should setup in the bios of the Thinkpad? Or something else? Is there more than one version of the VMware pLayer?

Look on BIOS if VT is enabled.
    Best regards.
