VMWare Server and SBS2011 Essentials

Trying to configure SBS2011 Essentials on VMware Server (was told it can be done) first I notice there is only the option to install Win Server 2008 / R2 and lower operating systems, is it possible to install SBS2011 on VMWare Server? If not which VM platform is needed?

Welcome to the Community,
I assume you are aware of the fact that VMware Server is already out of support for more than a year!? (see http://www.vmware.com/support/policies/lifecycle/general/index.html) Anyway, SBS 2011 is based on Windows Server 2008 R2 so you may try to install it with the appropriate OS selection.
If this is intended for production use, I would suggest you consider to use another product (e.g. ESXi 5) if your hardware is supported (see VMware Compatibility Guide: System Search). Do you have other virtual machines too?

  • [SOLVED] vmware server and kernel 2.6.26

I'm having trouble building the vmware-server-modules and I see that there is a patch for the 2.6.24 and 2.6.25 versions of the kernel.  I've got 2.6.26, is there a module patch for this kernel version?

  • VMware Server

    Hello,
I've recently purchased a dedicated server with Arch Linux installed...  I've compiled vmware-server and vmware-server-modules from AUR, made a bridge network via eth0... Question is, how do I configure the guest OSes (also Arch Linux)?
If I supply one of the three IPs I've been assigned (only one is assigned to eth0 currently, the other two have no virtual interfaces) and set the gateway and DNS IPs to the eth0 IP address, I can't ping any domains nor get external access.
What do I need to do to configure the Arch Linux guests to work?

I can ping the host from the guest, and vice versa
    ifconfig from the guest:

  • Licensing number invalid - VMWare Server 2.0.2 on Windows XP

    Hi,
I installed the vmware 2.0.2 server and created a vm and got the no-license message. Then tried to enter the license for windows from the download page and vmware server said that the license number is invalid. Searched the forum and deinlstalled the vmware server and reinstalled it. During install it did not ask for a key. After installation tried to enter the key and it did not accet it. Please help.
    Best regards

Here seem to be 2 solutions.
    1. Uninstall the software together with serial key (the uninstall must ask about it). Then reinstall.
    2.  Find the registry key
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\VMware, Inc.\VMware Server
    for 64 bit or
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VMware, Inc.\VMware Server
    for 32-bit. Delete the value License.vs.1.0-00 .
Then add to the key Dormant\License.gsx.3.0-00 the following values:
    "Serial"="<new_serial>"
    "Name"="<Name>"
    "CompanyName"="<Company_name>"
    "LastModified"="2008-12-01 @ 16:00:00 UTC"
and restart VMWare Host Agent service.

  • Server 2012 R2 Essentials and Server 2012 Standard

This is for a small business with all of 2 employees. I setup up the domain on the Server 2012 R2 Essentials. We have since found out that one of the applications was over loading the server so he went and bought a different server. Well that server has 2012 Server Standard. I added it to the domain but when I tried to make it a domain controller, I was getting a conflict error with the domain levels. So the question is, what is the best solution to resolve this? My first thought it to just create the domain on the Server 2012 and just blow the old domain. But maybe there is a better way to do it? any ideas?

  • Server 2012 R2 - Essentials Experience - - I jacked my CA and certificates all to @#&$%!!

    Windows Server 2012 R2 - Essentials Experience
In trying to put pieces together, I jacked my CA and certificates all to @#&$%!!
Some of the factors involved are:
     Server0 - Hyper-V Host
      Server1 - DC, 2012 R2 Essentials Experience role
      Server2 - Exchange 2013
     Client Machines -
      Windows 7 Pro
XP (Yes, these are my cross to bear... - worth noting their presence, but I'm working them out)
     The functional requirements:
      Anywhere Access for Remote users
       - Remote Desktop for Windows 7 machines
      Outlook Web Access
    The mistake... 'Web Application Proxy'
     -which uninstalled the CA
There is a CA back now, but after days of spinning in cirles in a rare area where I feel nearly completely lost (Certificate services) I am asking for help getting these pieces put back together.
    The current situation:
The network is up with all of the network and business services required to work 'Inside the Office' - so the client is "functional".
The "Essentials Experience" is broken and won't install to the clients, though it does provide the Essentials website, access to server shared files (fairly gracefully, I might add) and, as an administrator user, I can get to the servers via
RWA through the site and there are no certificate problems with that since I have a secured certificate for the domain.
OWA has been moved to a further back burner while I try to get the Essentials Experience functioning t the point where the remote users can get to their workstations through RWA... This is the biggest current hurdle... RWA for the clients.
Trying to install the client to the workstations nets me the "The Server is not available.  Try connecting this computer again,..." message at the point of username and password authentication.
    The clientdeploy.log finishes like this:
     [4976] 141016.153746.2670: ClientSetup: Standard Error:
[4784] 141016.153746.2670: ClientSetup: The exit code of the process (C:\Windows\system32\nslookup.exe) is: 0

     [1272] 141016.153755.0976: ClientSetup: End of ClientDeploy: ErrorCode=1603
The computerconnector.log shows nothing of value.
What I want to accomplish as a 'first step' toward recovery is to get the workstations properly connected so they show up in the Dashboard 'Devices' pane and can be managed and access by the Essentials tools.
Secondarily, I would like to get the client side tools in place and functioning (I expect the latter will be a side effect of the former).
So,... for anyone patient enough to have read this far... uh,... help?

Actually,... I can now confirm the delicacy of which you speak...
After a support incident with Microsoft which spanned a marathon 18+ hours on the phone and remote access by no fewer than 7 Microsoft Engineers, we got to a successful result.
It is a point of utter frustration for me when people put in threads like this then don't bother to come back and report 'how the issue was solved', and sadly, I am about to have done that merely because my span of functional attention and valuable reporting
capability was basically gone before I submitted the ticket and following all that was done in my state was not conceivably possible.
So - all I can do is apologize for not being able to report a valuable resolution and give a few little tidbits.
The net result is this - DO WHAT YOU CAN TO AVOID THE SITUATION IN THE FIRST PLACE.  Once your CA is in place, LEAVE IT THE $%@& ALONE!!!!  I mean... my best current advice.
In all, the CA was uninstalled and reinstalled 4 times after my blunder and significant work was done in ADSIEdit as well as substantial manual manipulation of certificates and CAs that was well outside of my (quite considerable) scope of expertise.
I wish I had more to offer in the world of resolution.
With this said, I will make one more request of viewers and moderators alike:
THIS QUESTION IS OFFICIALLY NOT ANSWERED.  IT WILL NEVER BE ANSWERED.  THE RESOLUTION IS NOT AVAILABLE TO THE MORTAL MAN.
DO NOT MARK IT AS ANSWERED
IF YOU MUST DO SOMETHING, DELETE THE WHOLE THREAD, BUT DO NOT BURDON PEOPLE WHO ARE LOOKING FOR REAL ANSWERS WITH THE NECESSITY OF READING THROUGH THIS.
DO NOT MARK THIS QUESTION AS ANSWERED
I hope this makes sense for people, and I hope people will appreciate NOT having to read this as though there is some 'resolution' contained within.

How can I fix this issue?

    Hi,
The issue could be due to the shadow copies on the backup volumes are corrupt. You could try to delete these shadow copies to check if the issue still exist.

At UC platform i can see some applications are installed on Windows server and some directly to VMWare. Pls explain?

Pretty much all newer versions of UC applications have started supporting virtualization so they can be installed on the VMware.
Have a look at dockwiki for virtualization supported apps:
    http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Unified_Communications_Virtualization_Supported_Applications
Some applications like CUCM version 4 were windows based previously but going ahead with version 5, 6 onwards the OS has been changed to Linux Operating system.
Let me know if you need any more information.

  • Vmware Server 1.0.3 and kernel 2.6.22

Maybe this will be of help to anyone...
The modules for vmware server 1.0.3 don't compile under 2.6.22-ARCH kernel from testing, and as far as I know there is no patch to fix that automatically yet.  I was able to to compile them successfully using the information from post 11 in this thread: http://www.vmware.com/community/thread. … adID=92709 - the specific file that I had to edit was "/usr/src/linux-2.6.22-ARCH/include/asm-i386/page.h".

To compile vmware workstation 6 for the new kernel check out this link.

    Hi,
since I upgraded the kernel from 2.6.18 to .19 I cant get my vmware-server running. Has anybody else this problem?

I try to create this error in english later, but maybe u know the problem already. I found sth about a any-any-patch but I couldnt find out if this is related to arch.
Would be great if somebody could give me a hint.
    Btw, Merry Christmas [/i]

    Merry Christmas to you too.
Yes. The problem is related to the any-any-patch.
Get the latest version of the patch and run it. That should solve the problem.
If for whatever reason it fails then, and only then, look for this file:
/lib/modules/2.6.18-ARCH/build/include/linux/version.h, and make sure it  contains a line for the UTS_RELEASE, and if it does not, add at the end the following: define UTS_RELEASE "2.6.19-ARCH"
    Then run the patch again.
    Hope it helps.

  • [solved] vmware server 1.0.4 build 56528 and kernel 2.6.25

    hi,
i updated to kernel 2.6.25 and tried to reinstall vmware server 1.0.4 build 56528 according to the wiki description.
running the vmware-any-any-update-117-very-ALPHA.tgz patch failed, because vmware-2.6.25.sh tries to patch vmblock.tar, which does not exist. instead of this there is vmppuser.tar in the sources directory.
    any ideas?
