VMWare Support

Hello
I've read this information in the forum:
"Oracle will provide support of the Oracle Stack running on VMware virtual machine if the problem is known Oracle issue. If the problem is an unknown Oracle issue when running on a VM, the issue must be reproduced on a physical system by the customer or VMware before a bug will be submitted. "
Is that still like that?
Thanks... roger

Read it from the horse's mouth yourself. See Note:249212.1 "Support Position for Oracle Products Running on VMWare Virtualized Environments"
The note was last updated Nov 17, 2007 and is still active.

  • Is vmware supported for production environment ?

    Hi All,
Is vmware supported for production environment ?
    Thanks
    Sunny

    All,
I'm glad someone has outlined the clear support statement that has existed for sometime between VMware - SAP.  For those of you still running on Oracle, here is some good news:
Wording towards SAP Customers requesting support:
"Oracle, VMware and SAP are working collaboratively to ensure support for SAP customers that use VMware virtualization for SAP solutions running Oracle DB. Functional tests are currently being performed to verify supportability of the SAP&Oracle stack.  Details will be made available in SAP note 1173954 u201CSupport of Oracle for VMwareu201D after tests have been completed. It is expected that in Q1 2010, ESX 3.5 and later releases including vSphere 4 will be supported by Oracle and SAP according to Oracleu2019s metalink note 249212."
There is no reason why x86 platform today cannot run the most demanding workloads on VMware vSphere in a production environment.  But has noted earlier, don't get hung up on "production" - you have heaps of TestDev, SolMan TestDev, sandboxes, gateways, application servers etc that should immediately by put into a VM - once you are comfortable with your solution in-house, I'm sure you will move production instances into a VM as well.

  • Is VMware supported for use with the Windows Azure Pack for Windows Server?

We are exploring the possibility of WAP as the front-end for a VMware cloud, and wondering if 1) this is supported 2) what limitations we may encounter and 3) what happens if we add Hyper-V to the mix alongside VMware.
Any thoughts or links to official guidance in this area?

This is an interesting question, and I must be honest and say I haven't tested it (yet).
The requirement is of course that your VMware envornment must be managed by vCenter-->SCVMM.
By using the native features (VM templates, traditional virtual networks etc), I think you should be just fine.
However, if you are looking for network virtualization scenarios, console access and so on, Hyper-V should be hypervisor to support all of this.

  • Oracle 10g RAC VMware support

Is Oracle 10g RAC supported in a production VMware environment yet? If not, what is the hold up? VMware is the standard in the industry now and not being able to virtulize is both costly and not practical.

As the previous responder points out, whilst Oracle does not actively certify its products in VMWare environments, it will provide support provided the issue is already known on the guest OS, or it can be reproduced outside a VMWare environment.
I know of many organisations running VMWare with RAC, including my own although we tend NOT to use it in Production environments. Oracle has many resource management capabilities built in to the RDBMS and the Grid Infrastructure which only work well if Oracle has control of all of the resources on a server.
I guess if you're not satisfied with our responses, you should direct your question to Oracle Support rather than this forum. Certification of VMWare is probably as much (or may be mostly) a business decision by Oracle and us Forum members can't generally explain those decisions.

  • VMWare support for guest OS

    Hello all,
please could anyone suggest what MAC OS are supported on VMWare guest OS.
i've checked the supported guest OS list in vmware fusion, they menitoned about 150 OS which include Snow Leapord but mac desktop OS is not specifically mentioned.
i am looking to have something similar
mac mini with vmware fusion installed and would like to have mac desktop OS as guest OS
please could anyone clarify if this is supported.
    regards
    ravi

    Hi,
currently no Mac OSX client version is supported as guest in any virtualization apps, not in VMWare nor in Parallels.
Only the OSX Snow Leopard Server is supported as guest.
Apple does not allow virtualization of OSX client version and VMWare and Parallels abide by that rule.

  • VMWARE SUPPORT AND PERFORMANCE

DOES ORACLE SUPPORT VMWARE FOR 11.5.10 ON ALL TIERS - APPLICATION AND DATABASE - AND IF THE ANSWER IS YES - IS ANYONE RUNNING THIS IN A PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT

Oracle provides support of the Oracle Stack when running on a VMware virtual
machine in the following manner. If a problem arises and it is a known Oracle
issue, Oracle support will recommend the appropriate solution. If that solution
does not work, the issue will be referred back to VMware for support. If the
problem is determined to be an unknown Oracle issue when running on a VMware
virtual machine, and the issue cannot be reproduced on a physical system by
Oracle support, the issue will be referred back to VMware for support. Oracle
and VMware have in place a joint customer support agreement to enable customer
support issues to be transferred between the two partners. In addition, all
versions of RAC are not supported on VMWare by Oracle.

  • Which VMware support Windows 7 as Host and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS

    Folks,
Hello. I need to install PeopleSoft PIA in Windows Server 2003.
Because my laptop is preinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium Editon and cannot dual boot multiple Operating systems. I have to install VMware in Host Windows 7 and then install Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS for PIA.
I have installed VMware Server 2.0.2 into Host Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS. Everything works fine for a while. But VMware Server Home Page https://mylaptop:8333/ui cannot display any more.
I have found that Windows 7 is not a supported Host Operating System for VMware Server 2 and strange thing might happen anytime. I found that "VMware Player 3" is fully supported Windows 7 as Host OS but is not supported Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS.
Does any folks know which VMware product support Windows 7 as Host OS and Windows Server 2003 as Guest OS ?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Based on my research, I would like to suggest the following:
    1.
Ensure the printer is compatible with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2003 and the drivers are up-to-date.
    2.
    Try the following method:
Printers that use ports that do not begin with COM, LPT,
or USB are not redirected in a remote desktop or a terminal services session
    Hope this helps. Thanks.
    Regards,
    Nicholas Li - MSFT
That doesn't apply to Windows 7 Machines. I'm having the same problem as Acer_, I have a RDP Session from a Windows 7 Machine to a Windows XP machine and the local printer was available a few days ago but isn't anymore. The drivers are installed on both PC's
and are compatible with Windows 7.

  • Oracle 11g RAC on Windows 2008 R2 VMware EXS 3.5 virtual machines

    Hi,
We are planning to Install Oracle 11g R2 RAC on two VMware EXS 3.5 Windows 2008 R2 servers.
Having trouble while assigning the storage to the servers, the Raw Device Mapping feature in the VMware is greyed out and we cannot assign the disks to the Virtual servers, the disks are allocated to the Vmware Host machine from the SAN (HP EVA).
Please guide me the best approach for the RAC configuration on VMware EXS 3.5 Win 2008 R2 Guest servers.
any help will be highly appreceiated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Is this implementation to production environment?
    Be aware:
Is Oracle RAC on VMware supported? No, we do not support Oracle Software including Oracle RAC on VMWare.
Aside from the support restrictions for the database on VMWare outlined in Metalink Note 249212.1, there are technical restrictions that prevent the certification of Oracle RAC in a VMWare environment.

  • Installing Quicken software on MacBook Air with VMware.

I am a new MacBook Air user and have installed VMware so that I can install Quicken software (which only operates on Windows).  I am having all sorts of trouble; when I try to install Quicken in my USB superdrive, nothing happens.  It won't load the software.  I have tried "autorun" in "windows" but I don't know the name of drive. Sorry, I have very basic knowledge so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Sounds like a VMWare Support problem.
I have no such problems with Parallels.
I assume you are aware that Intuit sells Quicken 2007 for Lion, Mt. Lion and Mavericks for $15, but you want to continue to run a PC Version?

It might help if you tell us how you installed Vmware workstation. Did you follow the wiki?

  • VMware error on Qosmio x500-110 and Win 7 64bit

I am having problems running Vmware player on this notebook. It allways gives this error:
    Operation on file "D:\VM\WinXP - VS 2008 - Blanco\XPSP3VMwTEMP-s003.vmdk" failed.
If the file resides on a remote file system, please make sure your network connection and the server where this disk resides are functioning properly. If the file resides on removable media, reattach the media.
Choose Retry to attempt the operation again.
Choose Abort to terminate this session.
Choose Continue to forward the error to the guest operating system.
D is local, secondary drive, not remote one. I have trying same with C primary drive, and allways getting this error. I have tried:
    Vmware Player 3.0, 3.1
    Vmware player 2.5.3
    Vmware workstation 7.01
on original BIOS versions, then on 1.9, and latest 2.2...
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise N, 64 bit. Everything is updated, I don't have any issues or problems except this. It is not occasional error, it is rule! Every time i start any version of vmware i get this error. Vmware support told me to try several BIOS versions to see if there is problems with motherboard but I did that and no luck. I have tried all of their products and got exactly the same behavior. I have tried all combination of vmware player options and got allways same error...
Please can someone confirm that VmWare Player or Workstation is working on their laptop? Am I missing something? Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. I don't have idea what is going on... Vmware image is working flawlessly in other notebooks (HP 8510w, Toshiba Tecra2, Dell Latitude etc..), and on all tried desktops/servers. Definitely it has something to do with this notebook.

    > mware support told me to try several BIOS versions to see if there is problems with motherboard but I did that and no luck
Thats nonsense you cannot try different BIOS versions because there is only one version (at this time BIOS v2.20)
    > Please can someone confirm that VmWare Player or Workstation is working on their laptop? Am I missing something? Virtualization is enabled in BIOS. I don't have idea what is going on.
Why should not run the software on this notebook??
    The notebook supports this CPU:
    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=43122&processor=i7-720QM&spec-codes=SLBLY
The VT technology is supported by CPU and BIOS.
So it should not be a problem with the hardware
I think its software issue maybe the Win 7 64bit version makes some troubles with the Win XP 32bit OS which you try to run via VM.
At the other hand the error says something about network connection and the server and disk resides
The notebook supports 2 HDDs and SATA drivers are needed in order to recognize the HDD. Maybe this is the issue what do you think???

  • VmWare Display settings for guest OS Win7 Pro and others not saving

Mid-2014 MBP 15" with Retina, Intel iris Pro, 16GB, 512SSD.  Running vmWare 7.1.2 on Yosemite 10.1.2:
    - Win7 Pro VM setup with 8GB, 2 'cores', 128GB SSD.
    - the Display settings for the Win7 Pro guest won't persist when switching to and from Mac desktop
    - Doesn't matter if Full Screen or in Window, it defaults to 1140 x 900 or something like that, and will not keep settings made after Full Screen is selected
    - Having done some research before coming here: I have uninstalled and re-installed vmTools. I have tried it with 'Use Full Retina Display' setting in vmWare guest settings, doesn't make a difference other than the default size is either the maximum Retina resolution for the Win7 Pro desktop or the 1440x900 default when the 'Use Retina..' setting is set.
    - Apparently this is an Apple bug with Retina MBP and not vmWare, according to vmWare.  ;}
    Thought, suggestions, other?
    Thanks folks!
    -=-Dennis

Now having worked with VMware support.  Here's the fix for anyone experiencing this problem on a rMBP with Fusion 7.x and running Win7Pro or others as guests, that are not retaining the display settings when either rebooting the guest, pausing the guest or switching between the Mac desktop and the GuestOS desktop.
    1. Find a file named WMwareResolutionSet it can be located under ProgramFiles or ProgramFile(x86)-->VMware-->VMware Tools-->
    2. Move, do not copy, this file out of this directory, onto your Desktop
    3. Restart the Guest
    4. Whatever resolution settings you have set, should now be retained
This assumes you have already UN-checked 'Use Full Resolution..' Retina display checkbox in VMware Settings-->Display.
