Vmware Tools for Nexus 1000v, VNMC and VSG

Hi everyone, a customer is asking me about how to install the vmware tools in the virtual machines of N1Kv, VSG and VNMC.
Someone knows the procedure, or if thats posiible or not.

@Robert
Wanted to know / understand what hardware version would be compatible for Nexus 1000V ? Is there any dependency for hardware version ?

  • Vmware tools for fc10 fail to compile some modules

I'm running esxi 3.5 u3 - when I try to install vmware tools on fedora core 10 (linux kernel 2.6.27.5).
    vmmemctl breaks:
os.c: 590  erro struct proc_dir_entry has no member named get_info
    vmghfs breaks:
bdhandler.c:29:27:  erro: asm/semaphore.h : no such file or directory
I have checked in the kernel include files, and effectively these errors are correct. When I lookad at earlier 2.6 kernels, for example 2.6.18, proc_dir_entry did have a memeber named get_info, but no longer.
Is there anything I can do? (although this is not that critical) .
    Otherwise, vmware-tools compile ok.

Priot to the current version of VMWare Tools I used to try and compile them and ran into issues.
Now I find that they are much better supported (on Ubuntu at least) and so in the VM I click on Install VMware Tools from the menu, mount the "CD" in a virtual CD Rom and install them the normal way ...
I would hope that something like this would work for FC - this is what I do in Ubuntu:
    sudo apt-get install linux-headers-server build-essential
    sudo mount /dev/scd0/media/cdrom0
    or
    mount /cdrom
    VM > Install VMWare Tools
    cp /cdrom/VmwareTools-x.x.x-xxxxx.tar.gz ~
    cd ~
    tar -zxf VmwareTools-x.x.x-xxxxx.tar.gz
    cd vmware-tools-distrib
    ./vmware-install.p
I am not a FC user so I don't know how much this will help ...

  • VMware Tools for Windows 3.x

    Hello,
I created a fork of VMware Tools for Windows 3.x 16-bit operating systems. Currently these tools include:
time synchronization between ESXi host and VM
    CPU idle support
    FAT12 and FAT16 shrink support
experimental 100 mbit/s network card support
famous Intel 8086 turbo button emulation
emulation of 5.25“ floppy drives and their sound for a better user-experience
For the future 10 Gbit/s and InfiniBand support is planned.
Check-out the source code on GitHub: stdevel/vmtools-w16 · GitHub
    Best regards!

I know you must use 16-bit DLLs if LabVIEW is installed on Win 3.x. The LabVIEW CD for versions 4 and 5 contains NT/95/3.1 versions. Can't you just install the Win 95 version? If you're using an older version, maybe its time to upgrade.

  • Firewall between Nexus 1000V VSM and vCenter

    Hi,
Customer has multiple security zones in environment, and VMware vCenter is located in a Management Security Zone. VSMs in security zones have dedicated management interface facing Management Security Zone with firewall in between. What ports do we need to open for the communication between VSMs and vCenter? The Nexus 1000V troubleshooting guide only mentioned TCP/80 and TCP/443. Are these outbound from VSM to vCenter? Is there any requirements from vCenter to VSM? What's the best practice for VSM management interface configuration in multiple security zones environment? Thanks.

    Avi -
You need the connection between vCenter and the VSM anytime you want to add or make any changes to the existing port-profiles.  This is how the port-profiles become available to the virtual machines that reside on your ESX hosts.
One problem when the vCenter is down is what you pointed out - configuration changes cannot be pushed
The VEM/VSM relationship is independent of the VSM/vCenter connection.  There are separate VLANs or L3 interfaces that are used to pass information and heartbeats between the VSM and its VEMs.

  • Firewall ports for Nexus 1000v

    hi all,
There is firewall between nexus 1000v and vcentre and ESX 4.1i hosts.
Could u pls advise which TCP/UDP ports to be opened for communication among Nexus1000v, vcentre and ESX hosts?
    Thank you very much!
    Best Regards,

    David,
Between your VSM & VC you'll need TCP ports 80 & 443 open
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/datacenter/nexus1000/sw/4_0_4_s_v_1_3/troubleshooting/configuration/guide/n1000v_trouble_5modules.html
Between your VEM & VSM you'll need port this should be layer 2 so no ports need to be open.
If you're using Layer 3 mode then enusre you have UDP 4785 open.

  • Nexus 1000V, 4K and 5K

I'm looking over the deployment guide for 1000Vs, and am not clear on the design.  If I have a Nexus 4k connecting to a Nexus 5k, how does the Nexus 1000V fit?  What I'm seeing is that typically a vpc is built between the Nexus 1k and a clustered upstream switch, such as Nexus 5ks, or VSS with 6500s.  However, if I already have a vpc between a Nexus 4k and a pair of 5ks, what affect does adding 1ks to the configuration have?  Or is the idea to move the vpc back to the 1000Vs instead of the between the 4k and 5ks?  Or perhaps is using a 1000V more suited when you have blades that are pass through modules where each blade has its own NIC or there are blade switches (non Nexus 4k) in the chassis?
    thank you,
    Bill

    hi bill
    mainly there are two options
first option if to use the N1K with a clustered up stream switches as you mentioned vPC or VSS
in this case all what you need form the N1K/ESXi host is to use a normal portchannel and multihome th eport channel links to both of these switches ( this is a recommended solution if applicable )
option two is to use non-clustered switches like in your case the two 4K switches as the upstream switches with the N1K
and in this case you can use vPC host mode where the N1K with new releases uses mac-pining to chose uplink subgroup within the port channel

  • Vmware tools for cisco acs 5.3

to backup an ACS 5.3 vm running on ESXi 5.0 our backup admin requested to install vmware tools on the acs server.
How to do this - if possible?

    Hi Joe
yes the vmware HA works for us and is enough if you can live with risk of data corruption. (which we never experienced up to now...)
In our case it's good enough to recover from the backup instead of adding more complexity.

  • CHUD tools for current-gen 13" and Lion

    Hello,
I have a current-gen 13" and I'm looking to disable hyperthreading and possibly one core and underclock using CHUD tools and hwprefs:
    sudo hwprefs -v cpu_count=1
    sudo hwprefs -v cpu_ht=0
When I tried installing the CHUD tools the installer went all the way through and then told me it failed, however hwprefs is available in Terminal. Running those commands shows me this:
    * 2 processors available *
    * processor hyperthreading enabled *
I'm glad it's smart and knows that stuff but that's not what I wanted. Does anyone have experience with this?

I just sucessfully installed the CHUD tools on 10.7.2, and am now using CPUPalette.app, located in /Library/Application Support/HWPrefs. What version of Lion did you try to install CHUD on?
Alternatively, you can go into the Preferences for Instruments.app, which is installed with Lion's XCode from the App Store, and turn off processor cores.

  • Tools for running process flows and mappings

The operations/production area is responsible for running process flows and mappings in a day by day base. As developer, I need to implement a solution that allow them run these artifacts. For this purpose, is there any tool apart from Control Center ????
    Thnks

The scripts you mentioned (sqlplus_exec_background_template.sql and sqlplus_exec_template.sql) can be used for command line execution of mappings.
We do not run these in Oracle Workflow, as we already have an enterprise scheduling platform, Redwood Cronacle in our case. (Also one finds AppWorx and others in this area, see e.g. http://www.bmc.com/USA/Corporate/attachments/BMC_Article2.pdf)

  • VMware tools for OEL 5 Update 3

    Dear All,
Recently I tried installing VMware tools on OEL 5 with Update 3 Linux Virtual Machine. The GNOME X Desktop which was working fine before the install stopped working after I installed VMware Tools.
Why am I looking to Install VMware tools.
I have two issues with OEL 5.3 Virtual Machines.
#1. The Desktop is very small. I have difficulty in finding and navigating to the Next Button in OUI (runInstaller).
#2. Mouse gets stuck while moving causing pain in the hand.
Note: The above two issues are not appearing in Red Hat Virtual Machines I have on the same box.
I'm not sure if OEL 5.3 is supported to be installed on VMware.
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Madhu

There are some points to answer here:
    Change of resolution:
    1. login as root
    2. System > Administration > Display
    3. Change number of colors to thousands
    4. Select your resolution.
    5. Logoff
    6. Display size should change
    Certification on VMware:
Officially there is no VMware certification of any Oracle product. You can run it in a VMware but if you encouter a problem you have to reproduce it on real hardware.

  • What tools for locating rogue APs and adhoc clients ?

Hi all. I was wondering how you locate your rogues. I have WCS with location detection; however, I still have to go out and hunt down the device. It can be difficult when there is a high density of laptops. Right now, I try to attach to unsecured devices and use the Cisco wireless survey utility to home in on the rogue. Please let me know if you use something better. This seems to work better than using netstumbler, but it has the disadvantage of requiring that you attach to it first. If security is enabled, I have to resort to netstumbler. I would appreciate hearing what techniques and tools work for you.
    Randy

I have not found and new tools/techniques as of yet. The way I see it the flow goes like this:
    1. You detect the rogue over the air waves. WLCs and WCS do a good job of this.
    2. With WCS and location detection, you get the aproximate location of the rogue.
    3. Then you have to go get the rogue. Sometimes they are easy to find, sometimes they are really hard to even when the location data is good. They could be under or behind a desk, or in an adjacent office.
I have not tried one of the spectrum cards from Cisco. Perhaps that would work better for finding the device once you know roughly where to look.
It seems that most rogues are not APs, but are routers using NAT. That hides the clients wireless mac addresses from the LAN side of your switched network so I don't think it is easy to locate the rogue on the LAN switch based upon what the AP's hear over the air waves - at least that is my experience.

  • Tool for timestamp in logs and traces

    Hi,
Last year I saw an utility for converting timestamps in logs and traces into human readable format.
It was a resident program in the tray bar, with a green icon with letter "H" in it, activated by Ctrl+F9.
Does anyone have a link to download this tool?
    10x in advance

Meanwhile, I found a better sollution, in WebAS itself.
It's called lv.bat (for Win, otherwise lv.sh), and it stays in \usr\sap\...\j2ee\admin\logviewer-standalone\
    It has two great options:
    >lv.bat sourceFile -o outputFile
converts milliseconds into human readable format and stores it into output file
    >lv.bat sourceFile -t
similar to tail -f command in linux, or tomcat console
I did some associations in winddows context menu, so now I can read or watch log files with one single click.
    really great utility!

  • Which is the best tool for PRC animation? and how to control it with javascript?

Hi I created animations through Deep Exploration. But I want to know how to create PRC animation with tools and how to control it? I already tried with tetra4D but the javascript can control only u3d format. I have no idea to control prc animation. Please let me know.
    Thanks and Regards
    Chenet0005 @ Chenthil Kumar

PRC files don't support embedded animations.
You can still control the mesh directly with  3D JavaScript (e.g. by using rotateInPlace and a time event handler) but you can't import a timeline as you can with U3D.

  • VWLC and Nexus-1000V

    Hi Experts!
Does anybody try to install vWLC on ESX with Nexus-1000V as switch?
All deployment guide are based on standard VMWare vSwitch and I can not find any information about questions:
    1. Is vWLC compatible with Nexus-1000V?

  • VSM and Cisco nexus 1000v

    Hi,
We are planning to install Cisco Nexus 1000v in our environment. Before we want to install we want to explore little bit about Cisco Nexus 1000v
    •  I know there is 2 elements for Cisco 1k, VEM and VSM. Does VSM is required? Can we configure VEM individually?
    •   How does Nexus 1k integrated with vCenter. Can we do all Nexus 1000v configuration from vCenter without going to VEM or VSM?
    •   In term of alarming and reporting, does we need to get SNMP trap and get from individual VEM or can be use VSM to do that. OR can we   get    Cisco Nexus 1000v alarming and reporting form VMware vCenter.
    •  Apart from using Nexus 1010 can what’s the recommended hosting location for VSM, (same Host as VEM, different VM, and different physical server)
    Foyez Ahammed

    Hi Foyez,
Here is a brief on the Nexus1000v and I'll answer some of your questions in that:
The Nexus1000v is a Virtual Distributed Switch (software based) from Cisco which integrated with the vSphere environment to provide uniform networking across your vmware environment for the host as well as the VMs. There are two components to the N1K infrastructure 1) VSM 2) VEM.
VSM - Virtual supervisor module is the one which controls the entire N1K setup and is from where the configuration is done for the VEM modules, interfaces, security, monitoring etc. VSM is the one which interacts with the VC.
VEM - Virtual ethernet module are simply the module or virtual linecards which provide the connectivity option or virtual ports for the VMs and other virtaul interfaces. Each ESX host today can only have one VEM. These VEMs recieve their configuration / programing from the VSM.
If you are aware of any other switching products from Cisco like the Cat 6k switches, the n1k behaves the same way but in a software / virtual environment. Where the VSM are equal of a SUPs and the VEM are similar to the line cards. The control and the packet VLANs in the n1k provide the same kind of AIPC and Inband connectivity as the 6k backplane would for the communication between the modules and the SUP (VSM in this case).
*The n1k configuration is done only from the VSM and is visible in the VC.However the port-profiles created from the VSM are pushed from the VSM to the VC and have to be assigned to the virtual / physical ports from the VC.
*You can run the VSM either on the Nexus1010 as a Virtual service blade (VSB) or as a normal VM on any of the ESX/ESXi server. The VSM and the VEM on the same server are fully supported.
You can refer the following deployment guide for some more details: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps9441/ps9902/guide_c07-556626.html
    Hope this answers your queries!
