VMware View Planner multi-remote PCoIP test with linked clones

So I was able to run the VMware view Planner local mode test no problem, however, I am having some troubles trying to do it with linked clones here.  I think part of my problem is that the instructions I am following in the user guide here are a bit unclear.  The part that is confusing to me is on page 56 of that document it says to use "View to Provision a Pool of Desktop Linked Clones.  Follow the View documentation to provision as many clones of the desktop template virtual machine as you wish to test. These should be created as an automated linked clone pool with floating assignment. You must also use identical values for the pool_id and poolname parameters. "
This is fine, however, right underneath that it says to "Use vCenter to Provision Client Linked Clones" and then goes on to explain the steps needed.  So do I need to create a view clone pool and create Client Linked clones in vCenter?  That seems unnecessary.  However, in the instructions for actually running the test headed "Create a Multi-VM VDI Run Profile," step d says:
In the Desktop / RDSH Name Prefix: field, enter the VM name prefix you provided in “Use View to Provision a Pool of Desktop Linked Clones” on page 56.
and step j says:
In the Client Name Prefix: field, enter the VM name prefix you provided in “Use vCenter to Provision Client Linked Clones” on page 56.
I tried just creating a clone pool using view, I based it off the snapshot that is created once the view planner client installer completes, I named the pool_id and poolname the same, as well as the prefix of all the VMs.  However, when I try to run the test, it doesn't work.  Any clarification here would be greatly appreciated.  I'm using a brand new installation of vsphere 5.5 U2, view 6, and view planner 3.5.

We ask users to create desktop VM using View, while client or the launcher VMs can be created using vSphere provisioning. Why do you want to create the client VMs also as View pool? You can create them using vSphere provisioning provided on View Planner provisioning tab?

  • Multi mask layers working with linked premiere sequence

How do I make a new grade layer when my sequence is linked to premiere project. I want to make two masks. I am new to speedgrade. I can't go to the timeline tab or press the color buttons, forth and fifth button above timeline, they are grayed out.
    Thanks,
    jim

There's been numerous discussions about adding a grading-layer option back into the Direct Link Sg workflow. So it's been talked about ... but not implemented yet. As someone who's always willin' to help out by submitting feature requests, I urge you to go ahead and file wishform requests for anything your heart desires! They do "listen" to these ... although they can't always for one reason or another implement things we ask for or at least, as fast as we want them.
Amazingly, they don't get irritated with those of us who file post after post. I went down to NAB this March, and was standing watching a Speedgrade staffer demo the up & coming (& now released) CC2014 version, with the new scopes. I'd put in I don't know how many requests ... some general, some very specific ... on this, and had jumped into quite a number of forum discussions on the subject. Especially if a staffer was involved. Wasn't sure how my reception would work out, you know?
However, the staffer involved was demo'ing away, and in a pause while showing the to-be-released nifty scopes, I did mention that wow, those were nice ... he turned and looked at me, then my name tag (which had my unused first name rather than my used middle name on account of NAB officialdom) ... started to look back to his demo-ee, and then turned with a big smile & said "You must be Neil!" and launched into a discussion of my numerous posts ... happily.
I can assure you, he'd read every flippin' one of my ahem ... multiple ... requests, and was still happy to see me. I was quite charmed, actually ...   so wish away!

  • View Planner 3.0.1 -- Issues running Single-VM-Remote-RDP test

    Hi,
I am trying to run the Single-VM Remote RDP test as per the Installation and User Guide instructions.
When I start this test, the client virtual machine console blacks out completely and I am unable to see if any operation is going on.
Also the "viewplanner.log" shows "Connection started from the client: fe80::457f:815c:a8b6:317%13" message and I am not seeing any progress after that.
Has anybody encountered such an issue? Any ideas?
Copied part of the viewplanner.log below.

  • Elevated rights MSI install PCOIP vmware view

    Hi,
When installing bundles with an MSI inside the MSI installs fine with elevated rights when connecting over RDP.
When we use PCOIP the bundle fails and we have to set the dynamic administrator credentials. Then the bundle installs fine.
    VMWare view 5
    ZCM 11.2.4
    he
SSO login with zcm works fine with Windows7 and zenworks.
Only issue we have till tihis moment was the error of installing MSI's, we have to set the rights with DA credentials. Not needed on thick clients and not needed when connecting to view over RDP.
    Regards,
    John

I presume your MSI's were set to run as "Logged on User" and you were
required to change it to "Dynamic Administrator"?
To allow this to work for "Normal Users", the Windows Installer Policy -
"Always Install Elevated" is enabled for the launching MSI.
I'm not sure why using PCOIP would break that.
Since that is user directed, maybe ZCM cannot determine for whom to
elevate those rights, but it could even by a Windows issue not
    permitting it in that case.
An SR would likely be the best way to go if you wanted to persue.
I'm not sure I could suggest much more than to do what you are already
    doing.

  • UCCX Advanced Quality Management with VMware View

    Hi,
I have a customer who uses UCCX 8.5 with VMware View clients running CAD and 7940 IP phones.
They are looking at recording options and have expressed an interest in the Advanced Quality Management product.
There are a few issues that I would need to consider specific to their environment.
The first is that Desktop based recording would not work in this environment as CAD is running on a virtual desktop rather than a PC daisy chained to the IP phone. The second is that network based recording is not supported as the 7940 phones do not have a Built in Bridge.
This leaves server based recording which uses SPAN port mirroring. The issue with this is that the agents phones are distributed across multiple Catalyst switches so I guess I would need to configure RSPAN - has anyone got any experience of using Cisco QM with RSPAN? - if yes how well did it work? - the customer would probably be willing to upgrade the IP phones used by the agents if that would be a better option.
The final query relates to the Screen Recording Client - the install guide details how to install this on a Citrix server but makes n mention of VMware view. Does anyone know if support for this is on the roadmap?
    Thanks!

    Hi James
I've done an RSPAN deployment with UCCX recording which I presume will have similar gotchas...
The only issue I had was that I ham fisted an RSPAN config in that SPANned the VVLAN on all the edge switches. My mistake was that I didn't exclude the uplink ports, and these switches were stacked, so there was a lot of packet duplication initially (sounds like 90s dance music time stretching).
If you ensure you SPAN ingress only on all the endpoints (i.e. phones, and gateways) and then exclude any ports where traffic might be seen a second time (e.g. switch uplinks), and then filter for the voice VLAN  you should be OK.
This deployment was a routed LAN with different subnets on each edge stack but this worked OK with everything running through a single RSPAN session back to the server.
I've not had the good fortune to have to do this more than a couple of times, and I've not done it for AQM  - but assuming that SPAN/RSPAN are supported along with the video recording part running on the endpoints I don't see it being too different as they seem to be written by the same people.
Can't help re: VMware view either I'm afraid...

Issue - ipad connecting with vmware view client v5.1. "any way to disable or hide the vmware view's radial virtual keyboard mouse interface" either in vmware view client settings, hidden cmds, or ipad system settings.
My client is using an external blue tooth ipad metal cover type keyboard and does not wish to have the radial keyboard / mouse visable or floating on desktop when connecting to vm with iPad using vmware view client v5.1.
i was unable to locate any settings or related toggle key/function combo keystrokes under iPad settings under vmware view client, to affect viewability of the radial keyboard/mouse. And can you kill it from service/process on vm instead of ipad? then dont allow service to restart at startup? What is the name of services that enable the radial virtual keyboard mouse - function to work?
Thanks for any and all feedback-

I'm having a very similar issue. Sometimes, when I boot and type in startx (I'm not even a GNOME user--I use dwm and no graphical login manager), I just get a black screen. No mouse cursor, so I think X doesn't even load. It only started with the xserver 1.6 update and the update to that hasn't changed anything. What I've been doing is just rebooting until it loads normally (takes one to three times). Is anyone else having this problem?

Meta Kiosk would certainly do what you need and the USB pass through works.
    http://blogs.sun.com/danielc/entry/meta_kiosk_how_to_run
I think the problem you are running into is that you are using uttsc inside a Solaris environment as an app, looks like CDE, which isn't being supported to my knowledge to avoid conflicts between the two desktops. It is designed to work out of the box with SRWC kiosk mode.
The undocumented way to turn it on is to turn usb on by adding -r USB:on as an argument.

  • Trying to view "evo" webcam remotely from ibook G4

Hi newbie here so hope in right area
basically want to be able to use my usb connected webcam to ibookG4 as a dog monitor - just to keep an eye on him while i am at work over the internet?
My set up is ibook laptop with airport card which connects to netopia router wirelessly
I have downloaded evo cam software can view cam on local network (view in browser) have tried to set static IP been on dyndns (don't know what to do with it!) have gone to router web browser to configure there and open ports (8080 and 8127 just in case)
have tried putting in IP which is given in evocam built in server (which is what i want!) but have been told that this IP is not my public IP so also got external IP and put into network settings (mannually) but this then loses all internet connection and i have to revert back to original settings within this window to get back online to search where i went wrong!
Is there anyone who has used this before and can give me help on how to set correct IP's ports, etc so i can view this webcam remotely - understood evo cam to be easy to setup software but it's the networking/configuring part where i think i am having problems. I have searched forums and Evo FAQs but to no avail hence my post here
    any help is greatly appreciated
    Cheers
"sorry if post bit long but thought it best to outline what i have done so far so someone can give me helping hand"
    Thanks in advance for help/solution

Hi Ralph. Wow! You know, I'm not sure what to do for you. My modem/router acts like it is UPnP, because I didn't have to do any port forwarding mumbo-jumbo to get it to work with iChat -- iChat just worked "out of the box" with that modem, just as it did with the one I had before it. And I never found anything on any router configuration pages in either one of those modems to turn on UPnP or turn off UPnP. And I never had to do anything with the Mac's firewall with regards to iChat, and I can port forward ssh into the house, which allows me to securely tunnel my netcams, vnc screen sharing, afp file sharing, even my own 5-account smtp/imap mail server for family members (me, wife, and the three adult children that have gone out on their own over the past several years). So what can I say but maybe God doesn't hate me after all?
But if we know what ports are being used, or could be used for iChat, PlayStation, XBox, etc., couldn't a separate unique port be forwarded to a single computer in the presence of UPnP? I'm thinking that those X Boxes and so forth already have reserved ports on that IANA well-known port list, or be using dynamic ports higher than 49151 (which is the last port number on that list). Might have to tcpdump -i {interface name} host {Xbox/PS's "192.168" IPA} | awk '{print $3 $5}' | sort | uniq for a little while and see what port ranges those X-boxes and Play Stations are actually using.
Or you're saying that when you try to UPnP with port forwarding, that hoses everything up in the router? I always kinda thought that the issue was trying to port forward iChat ports then turn on UPnP then iChat went "tango uniform," not the router, and that that wasn't an issue with port forwarding a non-iChat port to peacefully coexist with UPnP. But I just don't know. All I can say is that hopefully, blufishjd's home network is way less complex than yours is!
I will have to remark WRT bluefishjd, now that I have reread this thread, that it wasn't clear to me whether he had a second ibook on his WLAN to view the webcam locally or not. I would be concerned that if he is just viewing from the evocam application, or is viewing via Safari specifying localhost or 127.0.0.1 as the target URL, that that is not a good test to see whether he does indeed have the evocam webserver part set up correctly, or, more importantly, the hosting computer's sharing preferences set up correctly. I don't really know what happens if you try to view a webserver by connecting to 192.168.x.x (or 10.x.x.x), when that webserver is on the same computer with that 192.168.x.x address (or 10.x.x.x) coz' I don't run a webserver per se, not on a computer anyways. I know that I can't connect via afp or vnc to myself.
My two netcams have the webserver in them themselves. Don't need an evocam. Would have been nice, though, coz' Evocam did provide enhanced capabilities that the netcams otherwise require Windoze ActiveX to set up, but evocam doesn't work with my model number of camera. Works with some TrendNets, but not mine.
I could port forward three ports, one to my ssh/vnc/afp/imap/smtp server, and one each to the cameras. I have done that, but I prefer to just port forward using ssh only to the ssh server computer and tunnel afp, vnc, smtp, and imap to the proper ports on the ssh server's localhost interface, and in the ssh portforward switch commands for the netcams, I deliver them to their "computer name" (that new router of mine has a rudimentary DNS of its own for locally connected stuff). That way, it's only me who has access to the imagery from the outside world.
As a little test for you, why not try to ssh into one of your computers with only UPnP enabled (and remote login on the computer itself, of course) and see if you can login to it from the outside? Are you familiar, at least a little bit, with ssh command line in Terminal.app? Then, if you cannot login via UPnP in the router alone, then try port forwarding ssh (port 22) to that same computer, again with remote login enabled on it, of course, while leaving UPnP enabled. You wouldn't be simultaneously trying to reserve iChat ports via UPnP and port forwarding that way. Then see if you can log in via ssh from the outside, then see if you can do an iChat session with one of your buds. I would find it very interesting to hear about whether that worked for you or not. I can't try it myself, coz' like I said, I never have had to ever deal with that issue in the first place.
So with all that, I think I have just about filled up one of Apple's servers' hard drives....and I'm hijacking the thread, too! Sorry, Apple!

  • VMWare View or Sun Virtual Desktop Access Kit?

    Hello Everybody,
I'm in the process of deciding which way to go with the back-end of a new Sun Ray deployment and would appreciate any input. I already have a VMWare VI3 farm in place for servers so I'm familiar with this sort of technology.
I have looked into the functionality of VMWare View and it's VM recycling looks really good.
I've also seen that Sun have the Virtual Desktop Access Kit which appears, on the surface, to do much the same but without a few of the twiddly bits.
Is there any reason why I should/shouldn't use one over the other (other than cost!)? - particularly since I can't find any reference to the Sun VDA Kit anywhere on the UK site (is it still used or is it now included in the VDI 3 software?).
    Many thanks.
    Chris

    Angus,
To be clear on your second question. Sun Ray Technology is a thin client (Appliance) access option for Sun VDI. It is not used as a desktop provider, but as a method to display and interact with a VDI hosted desktop on a Sun Ray Appliance. One big benefit of the Sun Ray Server as a access tier is it can use client code on the server for different connection options (I call these plugins for different services based upon a user's profile) such as VDI Desktops (Virtual Machines Instances on VBox, VMware, Hyper-V), Traditonal Solaris and Linux Multi-user Server Based Computing, Citrix Services, Mainframe emulation, a browser as Kiosk applications for locked down displays, and much more.
In the Sun Ray world there are many desktop provider options available beyond just VDI hosted desktop.

  • SGD and VMware View

    Hi all,
Is it possible to use VMware View (VDM) as desktop source for SGD?
SGD works with the new upcoming Sun VDI 3.
    Regards,
    Wouter

Just to clarify though, I state this as theory. SGD has not been testing with VMWare View.

  • Removing VDI 3.0 while running VMware View 3.1.2

My customer originally configured Sun VDI 3.0 as a broker and decided to switch to VMware View 3.1.2. Since there is no need to run two brokers on the system I would like to remove Sun VDI 3.0. How can I do this safely? Do I need to completely reinstall the entire configuration, or is there a way to just remove Sun VDI core and leave Sun Ray Windows Connector 2.1 and Sun Ray Server Software 4.1 on the system along with VMware View 3.1.2?
Note: The primary and three secondaries are running in Solaris 10 virtual machines on vSphere 4.0
Issue: I would like to run only ONE broker and use the primary for session connects, thereby maximizing the usage of ALL servers and spreading the load evenly.
    What thoughts?

Yup, it is.. Too bad since I wanted to test the actual upgrade process out of production (although from my experience, everything is pretty smooth the way it is).
I assume I'll have to grab the 3.0 packages, use them to uninstall, then do a fresh 3.1 install?

  • Remote and Testing Server FTP Problems

I have a Dreamweaver site defined. I have an 2 domains and 2
FTP accounts. I am using one for my remote server and one for my
testing server. When I go to preview, it uploads the file to the
remote server instead of the testing server. Then it goes and tries
to view the file on the testing server and there is a file not
found error. If I try the same thing but use 2 network drives or 1
network drive and 1 FTP account (remote or testing), everything
works as expected. Any ideas why this happens?

Sounds like you are properly configured. I don't have a good
    idea why this
    is not working....

  • Remote and testing server don't see root relative links the same

My site works fine on my testing server (Apache, MYSQL,
PHP). I use root relative links in a library
file (include file) so that it will work with all pages. For the testing server these links look like this:
    /my_sites_root_folder/aaa/bbb/ccc etc.
If I use these same links on the remote server they won't work. To get hem to work I have to change all these links to the form
    /aaa/bbb/ccc etc.
When dreamweaver uploads files to the remote server, the site name folder  (my_sites_root_folder) doesn't go along for the ride--just the files in it. So on the remote all the site files are stored in htdocs. On my testing server, the files are stored in htdocs/my_site_root_folder.
I think it must have something to do with the way I'm setting up the remote and testing servers, but I'm read a hundred pages of instructions without being able to figure it out. I think I'm just seeing something wrong, but I've already spent days on this. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
    I'm using DWCS5. Internet explorer 8, Windows 7.

Thank you for your prompt response. I'm afraid I'm still totally puzzled here. It sounds like you're very knowledeable about your comments, but I would like to know more. I accept that using the local site root in links would be bad, but I'm not clear WHY. Structuring the links as I have doesn't cause any links to break. I've structured them this way because it's the only way I can find that everything works. But I still do not understand WHY I have to do it. Using different libary include files doesn't seem like a good way to go, though
You suggest that if I use any root relative links at all, I need to use vitual hosts. I'm not finding any good coverage of what these are, and especially why they are necessary. If this is the case, does that imply that templates (which use root relative links) also will not work on the test server (at least without vitual hosts)? The conclusion I'm coming up with, given your remarks, is "Dreamweaver doesn't work with root relevant links when you're trying to test a site with a test server." Is this right?
