VMware Workstation 5 & vmware-any-any added to AUR

As it became clear from comments added to the vmware-workstation 6 package in aur i was not the only archuser that wanted to stay with workstation 5 (license isssues) i decided to make an aur package of it.
I used the pkgbuilds for vmware-workstation by miklos, romashka & pizzapunk and adapted them.
During testing the package i found i needed the vm-any-any updates to make it run with the latest kernel (as expected) , so i've made an aur package for that also.
To avoid confusion with the vmware-workstation package i've named my package vmware-ws5 .

I managed to get the problem fixed by switching to vmware server 1.0.4. The I mounted the "C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Server\solaris.iso" CD-ROM. The CD-ROM contains one file, which I unzipped, and then extracted the single tar file. After reading the doc/INSTALL file I ran the setup script. I accepted all the defaults, and after the script completed things started working fine.

FCE can use DV or AIC video formats natively. Any other format will need to be converted to one of those two if you want to avoid constant rendering. The clips you use must match the Sequence settings.

How to view added rows in table; there is a horizontal line below which any added rows disppear! Pages version 5.1 which I DESPISE!!!!

I just replaced Pages after paying Apple $400+ for replacing a wiped-out hard-drive....
MANY HORRIBLE QUIRKS with Pages 5.1...
the one I listed above.....it's as if there is only one page....I can't see any added rows in the table below this arbitrary line drawn across the bottom! I can ADD the rows, but nothing I type in them is visible!

Do you have Pages '09 in your Applications/iWork folder?
If not ask Apple to give it to you again.

Workstation not mapping any network drives

Im having an issue with different workstation not mapping any network drives. The issue to would seem totally random. Each time is over a wired connection. I havent been able to find a TID about this. The issue also just seems to have started, however no changes have been made to any of the workstations Ive seen this on. The errors I get in the login script are below. The servers are all NetWare 6.5SP7. Suggestions?

Basic network connectivity issue. One known common culprit for this
error is a workstation firewall, but the raw symptom just means that
unexpected network connectivity problems occured.

Does the K9N6SGM-V (MS-7309) 1.11 BIOS have any added overclocking features?

I have the K9N6SGM-V with the 1.8 BIOS. I am wondering if I update to the 1.11 BIOS that is offered at this URL: http://global.msi.com.tw/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1086 if it will have any added overclocking features. I would really just like to increase the FSB on the X2 Black Edition CPU I currently have installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, and for these kind of mATX Boards, the chance that such options will ever be included is close to zero. They are not really intended for overclocking in the first place.

Nested Win2012/HyperV inside VM workstation extremely slow, any solution?

    My desktop has AMD 8-core CPU (3.2GHz) and 32GB RAM, I installed Windows Server Datacenter 2012 onto VMWare workstation 10.0.4, I assigned 4 vCPU, 16GB RAM and 120GB HDD to this virtual server, in the "Virtual Machine Settings",
Hardware---> Processors, My "Preferred mode" is "Automatic", I also selected both "Virtualization Intel VT-x/EPT r AMD-V/RVI" and "virtualization CPU performance counters".
    the issue I have is the installation of any VMs are extremely slow, try to install windows XP Professional (I use old OS because they are relatively less bloated, it will take 2h to finish, and I tried Ubuntu 8.0 and Centos 4.8 (I know
both are not supported by Microsodt due to competing relations), it will takes forever, so I gave up. Also when I use anything related to HyperV, it is very sluggish.
   I am setting this in my home lab, and my server's Windows 2012 trial license expired, so I can only play with HyperV inside VMWare workstation. I also installed ESXi 5.5 in a similar way, it works smooths without much hiccup.
   Any solutions? thanks!

Hyper-v needs bare-metal installation .
In your case , hyper-v wasn't installed on a real hardware .

Do a clean reinstall.
Download a fresh full Firefox (Aurora) copy and save the file to the desktop.
* Uninstall the current Firefox version.
* Do not remove personal data when you uninstall the current version.
Remove the Firefox/Aurora program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

[solved] error on upgrading any perl- (cpan) AUR package

with any perl- package I try to upgrade via AUR right now, I run into the same error, namely:

in order to prevent another occurence of http://xkcd.com/979/ I'd like to mention that I found what caused the problem.
In one of the vendor_perl directories, namely /usr/share/perl5/vendor_perl/CPAN/Meta I had a Requirements.pm that conflicted with the one in core_perl.
the one in core_perl was new(ish) and belonged to the perl package itself.
The one in vendor_perl belonged to perl-cpan-meta version 2.113640-1 from AUR.
Runs of pacman -Syu and aurget -Su didn't catch this problem (i.e. that an AUR package that was installed was providing the same functionality that perl did now provide as well.
Removing perl-cpan-meta cleared up all those problems.

I can't get any of the AUR compiz packages to build.

I must be missing a build dependency or something. I've tried to build compiz-core-dev and compiz-core-git and I've tried changing the version number in compiz-core-dev to several versions that I know exist. I even HAVE compiz-0.9.5 installed already, so it did build at some point.
This is the error I get:

i see compiz-core-dev is out of date so you can't install it with yaourt.
if you change the version you have to change the sha1sums,
and maybe the depends versions as well.
i did it with mplayer before someone fixed the pkgbuild and it worked
for one of the newer version but not all of them.

VMware 4.5

Hello fellow archers. I'm having a difficult time getting vmware running my system. I've tried the steps in the wiki, as well as the steps in:

I originally saw this problem with kernel 2.6.12-rc5-mm2. Thinking it was simply a change in the kernel code I didn't think much of it until now. I'm running 2.6.13-rc1-mm1. Since I don't read of anyone else having this problem, I wonder if maybe it has to do with my kernel config. Any help would be much appreciated.

I kind of forgot about this problem until it recently became necessary for me to get vmware working for work purposes. These instructions appear to only be necessary if you are running the mm series kernel or the files-break-up-files-struct.patch patch. The problem is that the mm series kernel no longer has a variable max_fds in files_struct. The variable now lives in fdtable. Here is how I got everything working:
Obtain vmware-any-any-update93.tar.gz from http://ftp.cvut.cz/vmware/
Bust that open and locate vmnet.tar. Untar vmnet.tar and locate driver.c and apply the following patch:

Logging into vmware server

I have installed VMWare Server 2.0.x from AUR. I cannot figure out how to log into the console. When running vmware-config.pl the first time I used my normal username as the administrator username. When I realized it had to be an administrator on the computer, I reran vmware-config.pl and changed the administrator to 'root'. In both cases it will not accept my password. I'm stuck and cannot figure out how to proceed from here.
Any suggestions?

For version 5.5. RC1 neither the any-any patch nor the custom script in Arch wiki are needed- it just works out of the box.
Well I got it working but no networking using the latest 5.5 version.

I've been an arch user for several months now. Amazingly, I've been able to work my way through all the problems I've had thus far (due, in large part, to the arch community and wikis). This is my first time actually posting for help.
I've been trying to install VMware-Server on my latest install of arch, when I run a 'makepkg' on the vmware-server-modules package I get:
==> ERROR: VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64.tar.gz was not found in the build directory
and is not a URL.
A link to the missing tarball can be found on the vmware-server-2.0.2 AUR page (http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=6182), however, when I click on the link, it 404's. I've done multiple Google, vmware.com, and archlinux.org/forum searches and have found nothing. I'm at a complete loss for what to do at this point. I really can't find anything of use on the subject, am I the only person who's had/having this problem? Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Turns out I'm just retarded. That's the actual vmware-server package from the VMware download site, which I actually downloaded and unpacked in search of the file itself For those who looked at this post, could no one have just gone, "Hey dumbass, it's the actual file from the VMware site."?

[solved] vmware server 1.0.4 build 56528 and kernel 2.6.25

hi,
i updated to kernel 2.6.25 and tried to reinstall vmware server 1.0.4 build 56528 according to the wiki description.
running the vmware-any-any-update-117-very-ALPHA.tgz patch failed, because vmware-2.6.25.sh tries to patch vmblock.tar, which does not exist. instead of this there is vmppuser.tar in the sources directory.
any ideas?

Yeah I have this exact same problem with the current stable version of VMware. I will definitely try the beta 2.0 and see if my laptop can run Autodesk Inventor with it in a virtual Windows environment.
