.vob to.mov Conversion

I have used Quicktimempeg2 for conversion of .vob files to .mov files to import to fce for diting. But it's not that good. It's creating jitter in the result conversion. Are there any other software recomendations that I can use for converting .vob files to quicktime media .mov files that is more effecient?
Thanks

  • Artifacts in Using Save As for AVI to MOV Conversion?

When I SAVE AS a compressed avi file to mov, I am seeing artifacts (they look like interlacing errors) in the final mov file, vs the same frames in the .avi file.  Can I avoid this somehow?  The avi file was compressed with the BlackMagic Intensity code (I think it's motion jpg too).
The file sizes are the same.
Bummer, I bought Quicktime Pro just for this.  Any help appreciated.
    Thanks

Can anyone here tell me why two duplicate laptops treat the avi-to-mov conversion so differently and why I must export at 480p?
As to QT playback, either the codec component configuration is different on each system or the the AVI file contains a legacy video codec that is turned on for system "A" but left off for system "B" but which is included in the Perian bundle installed on system "B." With reguard to the forced conversion rather than a simple "Save As..." action, please confirm the video codec name given in the "Inspector" window for each system. I suspect that either the video codec is different on each system or that the Perian version of the same codec with a different name may be forcing the "Export" conversion.

  • Slow Movie Conversion  5th Gen I-POD

Up to now, the movie conversion rate on my I-POD was rather quick. 3-4 minutes for a 25 meg Quicktime movie approximately. Now it takes a better part of a day to convert one, I get so disgusted I usually stop it before it gets halfway done. My music conversions are still as quick as ever (15-20 secs per song). Any ideas? This happened it seemed overnite. I have about 6 meg of music/movies on my 30meg pod. Thanks for any advice.

My view of this is that the conversion takes place on the computer, before it is sync'd to the iPod. It may be a problem on your PC. How much disc space do you have on your computer? If you are low, or there are a number of other programs running at the time, it would affect the processor coverting the movie.

  • In Thunderbird while trying to move conversation results to an archive folder; if some of the results are already in the folder it will not move any.

Hi. I often use the conversation search option when archiving my emails from inbox. I find this a very useful method of finding trails where I and multiple people have responded to each other. However If I have already moved one or more of these emails into the archive folder and select all to move, Thunderbird will not move any. I then need to individually select those that need to be moved.
Although not a major issue I use this regularly and often come across the problem. a recent fix which allows location tab to remain on in search helps but does not resolve this issue. A slightly annoying problem and I was wondering if any one else has this issue. Also is anyone looking into a solution?

FCPx answer: At least the answer that worked for me...
I had the same problem, as I believe many others had.
In my case the problem was with one of OSX Mavericks' new features: APP NAP.
It looks like this is ON by DEFAULT for ALL Applications and that FCPx, or Compressor for that matter, will not work if this is enabled on them.
I just disabled App Napp on FCPx and now it works, again, like a charm.
This is how you disable App Nap: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-57612009-263/how-to-disable-app-nap-in-os-x -mavericks/

  • Help with Automator Script for QuickTime Pro Movie Conversion from Vado

All my videos from my Creative Vado do not show up in iMovie 09 initially on import. By trial and error, I have discovered that the old version of QuickTime Pro 7 ($29.95) will convert them to .mov files that can be seen by iMovie 09 once the converted videos are imported back into iPhoto.
I am (very) new to mac things, and it looks like in theory I could use Automator to handle to conversion process, and perhaps even the re-import into iPhoto. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to go about this? Where would be a good site to post this as a project that I could pay some one to help me, provide an automator script/workflow?
Are any other solutions available? Buy Final Cut etc?
PS (Rant): One of the reasons I bought a MacBook Pro and iLife was to take advantage of what I thought was supposed to be Apple's superior multimedia handling. It seems ludicrous to me that with a MacBook Pro running the latest software (10.6.4), and using the latest versions of iLife, I'd have to buy an old version of QuickTime to convert my videos so that I could manipulate them in iMovie. Sigh.

MPeg Stram clip will export files which are compatible with iMovie '09. It (iMovie )can import the following.
    DV
    AIC
    Motion-JPEG
    Photo-JPEG
    MPEG-4 (Supported profiles)
    H.264 (Supported profiles)
    Apple Animation (Movie '09 only)
    Apple Video (iMovie '09 only)
iMovie '08/'09 will not accept files containing extraneous data tracks such as:
    'Tween
    Text
    Chapter
    Closed Caption
    Secondary audio such as AC3
    etc.
iMovie '08/'09 Will not accept files that rely on proprietary/third-party components such as
    DivX
    WMV
    XviD
    etc.

  • Clip in 16:9 from VOB to .mov via Mpeg Streamclip gets squished in FCE

Hello! This is a weird one, but I'm sure there's got to be a way -- any help much appreciated.
I've been given a DVD to edit. No raw footage.
    - I used Mpeg Streamclip 1.9 to open the DVD's VOB files
    - From Mpeg Streamclip, I exported to Quicktime using Apple DV/DVCPRO-NTSC compression. Here's the catch: The default size for that setting is 720 x 480, but that created a too-narrow, warped QT movie. So, I exported in 854x480 (16:9) and wound up with a beautiful mov file that looks just like the DVD. Clearly, our DVD was shot in 16:9.
    - In FCE Easy Setup, I have chosen both DV-NTSC and DV-NTSC Anamorphic, but either way, once in the Sequence the footage is vertically squished down to a short & wide size. (Note -- yes, I began a new sequence and re-imported after changing easy setup).
    - In hopes it was maybe just a canvas issue, i exported to qt -- still squished.
FYI, If I export from mpeg 2 in Apple Motion JPEG A at 16:9 my file is fine in FCE's canvas -- BUT it needs rendering. For this project I'll be doing tons of cuts and changes and I just can't have render issues. I'm considering rendering once, exporting and re-importing. But . . . there's got to be a better way I feel.
Anyone who can lend a hand, thanks in advance!!!

I May have found my own answer... From a reply to an older message, deeply burid in the archives. FROM NICK:
From the menu bar: Final Cut Pro > Easy Setup > DV-NTSC Anamorphic > OK.
Then: Sequence > Settings > Load Sequence Preset > OK.
I did this and the windows changed to 16:9...
Now, I assume I need to assign all 4:3 clips as anamorphic and position as necessary...
Hope it compresses and all... I have a Sept 1 deadline.
BY THE WAY... when I reread the manual after having been using FCP for several years now, it made MUCH more sense. I learned a bit about stuff I didn't know I had questions about... I suggest everyone do a reread once in a while... (or read it at least once if you never have)

  • Mpeg streamclip avi to mov conversion settings for Final Cut Pro

    Some help please.
I have just started to attempt to edit some avi files on the latest FCP, and for one reason or another, I'm having trouble converting the AVI files to MOV files in Streamlip, I have tried quite a few variations, but with very little joy. When i try to import a recently created MOV file into my FCP project, it either has no audio or both video and audio need rendering once placed on the timeline.
When I try to play the created MOV on QuickTime, again, there is no sound.
I was just wondering if someone would be kind enough to tell me the exact Streamclip AVI -> MOV settings they have used to combat this problem, or simply just tell me where I'm going wrong.
    Hugely appreciated.

    Hi again,
I have spent the last few hours trying all different types of variations of conversion, but with no lukc.
Thanks for the tutorial link, but the problem isn't that I don't understand how to use Streamclip. i just don't know which video and audio settings to use to create a .MOV file that will provide me with audio. This seems to be my major problem so far. Audio isn't even present when I view the .MOV clip in quicktime.
I have tried DV - PAL, H.264, Apple Motion Jpeg A, Apple DVCPRO - PAL etc etc, none with any success. It may be the way I'm trying to compress the audio, but I'm pretty sure that I've now tried everything!
I simply need to know a good conversion and compression setting that will at the very least allow me to play the video with audio in QT. once I have that, I don't mind rendering the audio in FCP as it takes no time at all to do.
    Cheers!

  • DVD to mov conversion?

So I had a catastrophic HD crash earlier this year and all I have left of my film reel is a DVD copy. I need to make it into an mov or similar format so I can then cut part of it out to edit the new version of my reel. How do I do it? I already have the DVD file ripped, just don't know what to do now...thanks!

MOV is not a format. It is a container. If you open that MP4 and immediately "save as" (filename) it will be the same clip in a MOV container with the same codec as you started with.
It does not recompress it so if you are doing something in QT other than save as you are a) recompressing it and b) wasting your time. And since an MP4 in a proper codec is already compatible with Final Cut why you think it has to be a MOV container beats me.
Note to preserve quality and get to work, despite the huge investment of $20 you should be using the Apple MPEG-2 component plus MPEG Streamclip and exporting the VOB/MPEG-2 source material to DV and edit that, not using something chintzy like Handbrake to further compress the MPEG-2 (a lossy poor quality format already) before editing.
Live large and skip 2 starbucks and do it the right way.

  • Converting vob to mov

I've recently purchased an intel iMac and want to convert existing dvd .vob files to something that can stream such as .mov.
I've done a search on Google, but most apps are for Windows. I was wanting to do this without having to install boot camp and XP.
    Any ideas?

Thank you SJA, that was extremely helpful After I converted the vob file using ffmepgX, I dragged the mov file into iMovie and exported it for web streaming. Now the videos should stream for WiFi without a hiss....

  • VOB to MOV

Anyone have any tips on a good freeware for converting VOB files to MOV?

If its material you own or have license to, MPEG Streamclip works well. But you'll get better quality by capturing from the original acquisition tapes/files. DVD-Video is highly compressed.

  • Old Home Movies conversion help needed! Please!

I have about 18 hours of various movies that had been built in Pinnacle Studio (transitions etc.) on a PC Computer. There is no disc chaptering and this is a PC only program. I want to bring them over to iMovie or another program on my new iMac and have the end result to put them on USB. Pinnacle said that burning to DVD would be the only way to incorporate menus and chapters etc. Is there any way for iMovie to do this? or another program? We just want to be able to have them on USB to distribute to the family and have them put in their computer and be able to play back the various movies and have the option to fast forward or skip to a certain part in the movie with scene selection etc. I have several options to export the Pinnacle movies. Mpeg1, mpeg2 and a few others.
Any help or direction would be appreciated. We don't want to have to chop our videos to burn to a bunch of DVDS if possible.....

I can't answer your question completely but I will try and fill in a few blanks. Perhaps others will add more later.
I would try to make your final result a DVD. When you put video on a USB stick you have simply created another file that may, or may not work, in the future. You can certainly do that if you wish, but I would also make a DVD. The advantage of DVDs is that they are foolproof and universal, and most likely to be viewable for the next 30 years.
I had good success with iMovie HD 06. Readily available on Amazon as part of iLife 06. Most files can simply be dragged into iMovie HD 06 and it will automatically convert them. It may be possible to do this with newer versions of iMovie but I rarely use those. I prefer the higher quality of iMovie HD 06.
For DVD making use iDVD 09. I recommend the 09 version because it is the only version that includes all of the themes. Newer versions have had themes removed.

  • Avi to Mov conversion software for Mac

Since I can't search I may be asking a redundant question, but can anyone help me with locating some software for the Mac that will help me to convert some .avi files to .mov?
    Thanks,
    Jim

i think quicktime pro will do that.
unless it's some obscure, windows encoded avi file...
i like to use iSquint which is a free, slimmer version of Visual Hub...
--it's meant for getting just about anything on the iPod... but the settings allow you to choose pretty much whatever you want...

  • M4v  to .mov conversion

I just purchased the rose bowl summary on itunes. can i convert it to a .mov file?
    thanks
    jim

The protected files can't be imported into iMovie (I guess you tried) and can't be "shared". It's part of the purchase agreement at the ITMS.
A 320X240 file will not look very good when played back on a TV.
It was a very good game. Maybe the trainer can get some other source of video that can be edited in iMovie.

  • Old 8mm. Movies, Conversion to DVD?

My own video cameras may not be of high enough quality to do this conversion, even using their signal out as a direct input to something like the Canopus ADVD-100.
Are there any companies that do this conversion commercially?

Look in your local phone book under "Video" or "Video Services". I had some childhood 8mm & Super 8 reels transferred to VHS a couple years ago, and I'm sure nowadays they can go straight to DVD.
    Wasn't that expensive really.
    Good Luck
