Vocal Transformer vs AUPitch

has anyone compared the Vocal Transformer to Apples AUPitch?
Although the controls are different they seem to do the same thing. Its as though they are both the same AU but with two different user interfaces. But I'm not sure. It seems that AUPitch is getting the same job done with less stress on GB and with less sonic artifacts than Vocal Transformer.
Has anyone compared the two?

Well after much experimenting I have found that Apples AUPitch is better for changing the pitch of a vocal track than Vocal Transformer.
I have found that Vocal Transformer introduces a number of odd sounding artifacts to a track particularly when changing the pitch upwards from male to female.
Granted neither AU does a completely realistic job when changing a male vocal to a female vocal but with the right amount of tweaking good results can be achieved.
I was able to fool some people into thinking a male track was actually a female singing when using Apples AUPitch. Whereas the Vocal transformer made the female track sound simply weird with mickey mouse swirly sound every now and then. More now than then actually.
Well just checking in!

  • After reverting back to Garageband 6.0, I find that I still lack all the Garageband Effects (Distortion, Vocal Transformer, etc.). The Garageband 10 "AU" plug ins are there instead. I need help getting the old effects back.

For background: I lost my v6 because I had to reformat my whole hard drive. When I reformatted I lost GB and everything else I had. I downloaded GB (unaware of the awfulness that is v10) from the App Store. The fact that v10 does not have all my favorite and most used effects from v6, I uninstalled v10 and redownloaded v6 from my App Store Purchases. I load up v6 only to find that all the default effects are there for each instrument, but when I go to add an effect (i.e. Distortion, Vocal Transformer, Flanger, etc.), instead of the list of classic effects, there's the list of awful AU effects from v10. What gives?!

For me, the "Edit" panel in GB6.0.5 looks like this:
Are you saying, that the upper part with "GarageBand Effects" is missing?
Then check, what is installed in your System Library in the folder
    /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/
(the topmost "Library" folder on your Hard Drive.
You may need to restore the old GarageBand effects and Track settings files from your backup:
    i.e look into the folder /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/Plug-In Settings/
and restore the settings for Chorus, Flanger, Vocal Transformer, Tremolo, whatever effects you are missing.
And also look for missing files in "Track Settings" folder and "Sampler" folder.
What kind of backup do you have? If you have a Time MAchine backup, go back in time to the time before you upgraded to GB 10.

I don’t have this issue, but I am looking to learn about which parts of the old GarageBand can safely migrate to the new GarageBand 10.
(Personally, I like most of what changed in the new version.  I sorely miss a few features, and I submitted some detailed feedback.  If you think similarly—or if you hate the new version like babygotbackup—do the GarageBand community a favor, and send in your own feedback!  From the menu, select GarageBand ▶︎ Provide GarageBand Feedback.)

  • Logic Express 9 Vocal Transformer Not the Same as Manual

I've searched high and low and cannot find anything. I just purchased LE 9 last week and as I was gong through the Effects manual noticed that the "vocal transformer" I have is not the same as the one shown in the manual.
The one I have with LE 9 only has 2 parameters/sliders and is the old hideous brushed aluminum interface.
Contrast this with the one in the LE 9 manual which has pitch, format, pitch base, mix, tracking, and robotize to name a few. (I also searched online and there are a few youtube videos of LE 8 with this same interface, so I know it's not new.)
I have FCS 2(Soundtrack Pro) on my machine, but as a matter of testing, I installed LE 9 on my iMac which does not contain any other audio applications and the same effect unit came up for Vocal Transformer.
Can anyone confirm that LE 9 should have the Vocal Transformer unit that I saw in the manual? It's a little frustrating to say the least.

    Hi,
if I remember well, it was already like that in LE8. The manual shows theLogic Pro version.
So, unless I'm mistaken, it's simply a misprint in the manual...

  • Can you use the Vocal Transformer for Live Show?

Can you use the Vocal Transformer for Live Show? I have automations set up in my vocal track using the vocal transformer and would like my vocals to adjust accordingly while performing live. Is this possible to configure and if so, how do I set it up at the venue?

Vocal Transformer opens in MainStage. All controls in VT are visible & editable in MS. Don't set it up at the venue. Set it up in one or more patches before you leave your house. You will need up to twelve sliders or knobs plus one or two buttons on your controller to get the most out of it.

  • Can hear Vocal Transformer in Garageband 10 but can't access

I've searcehd the forums, not finding the issue I'm having.
I've imported a Garageband 6 file that has the vocal tranformer effect applied into Garageband 10.  I can hear the effect on the track in 10, but cannot find where it's being generated from.  There's no options in the smart controls other than "compressor, high pass filter, overdrive" and no button on top right to see any more options.  But I can hear the tranformation.  How do I access it?
    Thanks!

Do you still have GarageBand '11, version 6.0.x installed? Then you should be seeing the old vocal patches of GarageBand '11 in the Legacy section of the Instrument Library.
    Legacy > GarageBand > Vocals
The patches "Deeper Vocals" and "Mouse Voice" have controls for the Vocal Transformer in the Smart Controls:
You can adjust the pitch and the formants just like in GarageBand '11:

  • Track info vocal transformer

there is an effect that one can create in the track info pane of any given track, the one i'm reffering to is the 'vocal transformer' here u can change the pitch of the track, but i'm unsure of what the increments are in. ive changed the pitch up +5, so is that 5 semitones, tones, a fifth, what?
Also was wondering what the slider is underneath the pitch one, it just says sound high and low. I hope that this isn't too vague!
    thanks people.
    Anthony

    So +5 is a fourth.
And for people who aren't familiar with formants: "higher" makes the voice more "female" and "lower" more "male", without changing the pitch. This slider works best when applied delicately.

  • Vocal Transformer for Voice Over?

Hi, I need your input please. I am doing a low budget children's animation project and am looking for a *plug in* that will allow me to *"detune" my vocal* in order to emulate _5 different characters_ for _voice over_. Although it is low budget, I am looking for something that will do _*5 kid voices*_ well enough so that it does not sound cheap. I looked at a plug that came with Logic 8 and i can get 2 characters from it, I need more Can you please give me some suggestions?
    Thanks in advance

Speaking of time & pitch machine, iZotope makes an excellent sounding plug-in. $399, just under your limit.
The demo runs legit for ten days, so perhaps you won't even have to buy it. I love it and recommend it.

  • Vocal Transformer great but makes warble, impossible to remove?

The male to female is great . But i don't like that it makes a warble sound. and there doesn't seem t obe a way to remove it. I have soundTrack program too, is there a way i could take a Garageband made sound of my voice with Voice changer aplied to it... then fix it in Sound track? or what do i do?
    GB 3.04.
    Strack 1.5

    Try this:
Drag all of your bitmap assets from the library to the stage. Click the Frame to select all of the items and set where you want the top left corner to be. Then run the Distribute to Frames command.
Does that sound like a workaround that would do the same thing you're used to the bmp sequencing doing?

  • Need help with  effect to sing vocal hook with

I have to sign a hook along with a singer but i'm not a singer i'm a rapper, can anyone point in the direction of an effect that would help smooth me out or even give my voice less cringing ability. I've been reviewing artists who sing (not well but good enough on a track) and need to figure out how to achieve this sound. I am providing a link to an artist named hard target.
    http://www.myspace.com/hardtarget
I will either be doing this on logic express or garageband

    Hi,
    try these effects:
    - pitch correction
    - vocal transformer
    - compressor
    - limiter
    - EQ
I'm afraid I could write at least 10 pages about this subject... experimenting will be the best thing to learn!
    Kind regards,

  • Fatter vocals via Time+Pitch Machine?

I'm looking to utilize the pitch change feature in Time and Pitch Machine to make a vocal "thicker". Now I understand this is gonna be a matter of opinion and one's ear, but I am not sure as to the settings and how to go from there. I can screw around and pick this or that till I hear something that sounds alright, but I'd rather have some background as to what I'm really affecting. Not sure how many cents to transpose or anything like that. Any suggestions would be well appreciated. Thanks

Do you mean to create a vocal double track to thicken the sound? In that case, I wouldn't bother with the time and pitch machine. Well, you could I suppose create a copy, then shift the pitch on the copy by a couple of cents up or down, and perhaps shift the formants a little to change the colour somewhat. But you may as well do this in realtime by copying the audio to another track and using the vocal transformer plug in. Or, another trick is to use the pitch correction plug in on your double track, with light settings (as in not too aggressive on the pitch correction speed), because the way it will adjust pitch in real time will make random variations happen compared to the original track. It will create more of a realistic sense that it was a separate vocal take because the pitch will have variation over time compared to your main vocal line. Then after the pitch correction plug, you could insert a vocal transformer (or AU pitch plug in) to just slightly adjust the overall pitch by a couple of cents and maybe mess with the formants slightly as well, to get some light chorusing.
If you want to spend some money, look at the latest Antares EVO plug ins, they make a whole range of plug ins specifically for doubling, tripling, or even creating a fake 'choir' out of a single line vocal. Might be worth a look.
Otherwise, you could also just use the classic mix techniques for vocal thickening.. Make copies of the original to new tracks, then use a bit of delay (in the inspector) to slightly shift the timing. Then set up an aux strip with plug ins such as chorus or ensemble, that kind of thing.

  • Switching back and forth between keys on vocal track

I followed the instructions in the garage band tutorial for changing key (pitch?) of a vocal track for part of the project. Doesn't seem to work the way they suggest - calling up master track, adding a point on the automation line where I want change to begin and raising automation line on other side to raise pitch. No change seems apparent.
This vocal track is actually a rap that involves a person talking to a bug. I recorded the rap in key of D, want to raise pitch of the part that has the bug 'talking' to give it cartoony effect. I tested it on whole track by changing key normal way and raising key from 'D' to 'G' seemed to have best 'feel' for what I want. Can I switch keys back and forth in Garage Band and if so, how?
I also have Soundtrack installed with my Final Cut Pro, but would like to stick with Garage Band for this project if possible.
    Judy

if you read the docs, your own recordings are not affected by the master pitch.
for your project it probably makes more sense to use the Vocal Transformer effect anyway (the alternate choice would be to use the Region Pitch control in the Track Editor)

  • Funny Vocal effects in Mainstage?

    Hello.
Is there any funny vocal effect to apply in real time like the "Helium effect" in garage band or, even better, is there a way to sing a song with a microphone attached to the computer and use a midi keyboard like a vocalizer/harmonizer for the voice?
    Cheers
    Giacomo

    Hi,
the Plugin "Vocal Transformer" should do the helium job.
If you want to harmonize your voice, i would suggest to feed your voice into the EVOC20 Vocoder via the Sidechain while playing the appropriate chords.

  • How can I create harmony using one vocal

I'm trying to learn how I can... Instead of having 3 people sing or one person sing all three parts, I can sing one part and somehow create the other 2 parts making harmony...??? I was wondering if it was Hermode Tuning but...???

You can pitch-shift copies of tracks, with pitch-shifter or vocal transformer, or have the one track send to several busses with these plugs inserted, but really, doing it this way will tend to sound more like an effect than real harmonies, (even if you delay the shifted copies)
To get authentic sounding harmonies, you need too record each part. (even recording each one in the same part and then shifting those tracks will sound better than working off the one recording)
