VOD in VO instead of french

Guess what ? I'm kind of lazy...I hate to watch movies in any foreign language before I see them in French...I've just rent a movie on Apple TV which was supposed to be in French, and it's not !
No line saying it was to be in English...Is there any way to fix that ?

GDM in english instead of french ?

Hello.
Since last initscripts update, my GDM is in english instead of being in french.
Adding a /etc/locale.conf file with :
LANG=fr_FR.UTF-8
LC_MESSAGES=C
leaves me with an english gdm, an english gnome and no possibility to switch back to french.
Any idea ? Known issue ?

English keyboard instead of french !

When I enter a caption in LR (french version), "a" is entered instead of "q" and "q" instead of "a".
On english keyboard, first letter is "q" on first raw and "a" in second raw.
On french one, first letter is "a" on first raw and "q" in second raw.
So, it seems that LR works as if I had an english keyboard.
Of course, others softwares (Word, Photoshop...) dont make this mistake...
Does anybody knows what I am doing wrong ?

Sorry I can't be more precise but I'm sitting on a German PC and it took me ages to find it the first time round. However, in XP there are 2 ways to change the layout of your keyboard. The first (and only if you have in the Taskbar (bottom right) a small icon indicating which language your keyboard currently is set to. By right clicking on this you can bring up a menu in which you can add another language. I regularly switch between a German and English keyboard and have set a keyboard shortcut (Alt + Shift) to do this. You can also set your own preference within the menu. If the current keyboard setting is not present in the Taskbar than I'm afraid you'll have to go diving in the Help file - changing keyboard - or something like that. Sorry I can't be more helpful at this time - it is there, it is an option, you'll just have to find it.

How do I get AW to open in English v.6...instead of French v.6?

I use AppleWorks for all of my word processing. I compose documents in English, French, and Norweign (all three language applications are on my computer.) Recently I received an attachment that was written in English (Word), and when I attempted to open the file the French version of AppleWorks opened displaying the contents in French. Since then all of my AppleWorks documents are opening in the French version.
This is the case whether I am double clicking the file in the documents folder or opening from the File>Open selection in AppleWorks.
I have investigated the preferences in Mail and AppleWorks (all three versions) and find no settings to make the English version the default for opening my documents.
Is there someway to correct this without removing the install of French and Norweign versions of 6.v...?

I expect this may have to await a reply from Yvan, who has multiple versions of AppleWorks installed, and switches languages fairly regularly.
Meantime, here's a few questions that may help track down and solve the problem:
What happens if you create and save a new English language AppleWorks document (in your English version of AppleWorks)?
What happens then if (without closing the English file), you use File>Open (in AppleWorks) to open one of the files that's giving you trouble?
When you say "the data appears in French," what do you mean?
When you say "the application reverts to French," what do you mean?
Here are three other things to try:
1.
This is one I just tried, and it did seem to cure a similar issue on my machine where I have both English language versions installed, and double-clicking opens files using the 'wrong' one.
Reset the Open With... setting in Get Info. In the Finder, Click on one of the errant files, then press command-I to Get info. In the Info window, go to the Open With section and, in the popup menu, select Choose... You'll get a dialogue open to the Applications folder. In the folder, select the version of AppleWorks you want to open this file, then click Add. the dialogue window will close, and you'll be back at the Info window. To set the selected AppleWorks version as the default one to open files of this type, click Change all before closing the Info window.
2.
As noted, this one is a general trouble shooting step. Keep it around, even if you don't use it this time.
General problems with AppleWorks (or any application) can often be cured by deleting the preferences files, which are susceptible to corruption. AppleWorks will create new (clean) versions the next time you run it. You’ll find details in Peggy’s User Tips post, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly.
3.
This one looks more drastic than it is, provided you don't empty the trash.
Drag the two non-English AppleWorks 6 folders to the Trash (but don't empty the Trash). Items that are in the trash won't be opened or launched by the OS, so this should force the only version left in the Applications folder (your English version) to launch on double-clicking an AppleWorks file. It may also reset the OS's pointers to default to the English version even after you drag the other two out of the Trash and back to the Applications folder, but I haven't checked that.

How can I have the Canadian store instead of French Store?

Here's the deal: the iTunes terms state you must be physically located in the country whose store you're trying to use, & that Apple will use whatever means are available to insure you comply. Now, realistically, if you're out of the country and are just trying to update apps, will you have any issues...doubtful. You have to understand, you've got DRM issues, content issues, copyright issues, etc., etc. Sure would be easiest for Apple to have one store for everyone, but the world's just not made that way.

I get question marks instead of French accents

If I put Unicode (UFT-8), it doesn't work any better.
If I put Occidental (ISO-8859-1), the question marks disappear on buttons and in the page tab, but all French accents in the text are transformed in weird characters...
I don't see the question marks on http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/Unicode/Character_reference/0000-0FFF, but some characters between Unicode 4.0 to 6.0 are not translated.

Little squares instead of text in the store

I upgraded to itune9 this morning, and most of the text in the store, except artists' names, are little squares. the fonts i have are strictly only XP pro and oed fonts. i never had helvetica to delete. like someone on a similar but different thread, i assume it'll get fixed someday if no one with xp can read the store, but i'd like an answer sooner.

On my Vista Ultimate system, I managed to work around the issue by switching the display language back to English instead of French. I have other Windows accounts on the system. Those with French as their display language have the same issue. This is just a workaround: I can't use my system in French and make purchases on iTunes. Their is a flaw in iTunes 9.
I am not sure this is applicable to a Windows XP system which is not multi-lingual from the ground up.
I was very disappointed by Apple's phone support (I have an Apple Care contract for my iPod). The first customer service representative instructed me to completely remove et re-install iTunes. I did it but it didn't solve the issue. When I called back, the second customer service representative was very quick to blame my computer hinting at some plugins that would prevent the correct display of the iTunes Store. I think this is a very poor response to a genuine issue of a customer.

Adobe Reader XI user interface won't display in French

I just installed Reader XI French version.
Everything works fine, I accept the EULA and when I open a pdf file, the menus are in English instead of French.
I open Preferences, in the Language section it says French but the user interface is still in English.
Interestingly, if I open another session on the same PC, the user interface is in French.
Environment: W7 SP1 64 bits. OS in French.
Any idea to solve this problem?

Demo does not compile if regional setting is french

Did you know that some demos (TimeOffRequest demo at least) does not compile if my regional settings are in french (French Canada)

Photoshop in french can be changed to english?

Hello, I have a french version of CS3 and I would like to have it english instead of french. How can I do that?

The language displayed in the application interface can't be changed.
You'll have to contact Adobe Customer Service/Sales and arrange to get a new version in English. Links for the Adobe Contact pages can be found on every page of the Adobe family of sites.
As I understand it you'll be charged a nominal fee and you'll have to go through an authentication process, plus you'll have to sign a letter of destruction for your old French version.
It shouldn't be too tough, but it might take a little while.

I am searching the links to download the Recovery CD for my Qosmio G30-212 but in English instead of French (what I have now).
Does anybody know where to look for there CD's ?

You can order the Recovery CD from the ASP in your country. But I presume you will be not able to order it in English language. You can purchase only the same recovery CD which was delivered together with the notebook and it was a French language.
What you could do is to install the Windows from original English Microsoft CD and then to install the Toshiba drivers from the page.

I understand. The Swiss Apple website offers a choice of French or German and you can download a French version of the Swiss iTunes to your computer, but I do not know how you can change the language of the app on your phone. You can of course choose apps and download them to your computer, then sync them to your phone. http://www.apple.com/chfr/itunes/

APEX 4.Loosing translatable text when exporting/importing to new workspace

Hi everyone,
I am developing a bilingual application (base English translated to french) and I noticed something weird when exporting/importing to another workspace.
First, my application is flagged as requiring synchronization after an import. Yes, I did check that it was not flagged right before the export. I did choose Export Translations.
Secondly, when I look at the translated application in the new workspace, my Region Names are not translated anymore (in english instead of french). When I cmpare the 2 Translation Repositories (using the Manually Edit Translation Repository) I lost all Region Names entries (Column Description = Region name).
Thirdly, when again comparing the 2 Translation Repositories, I have the same number of Strings and Distinct Strings by if I group by Column Descriptions the sub-totals differ and I don't even have the same distinct Column Descriptions.
My test was done with my development workspace and a test workspace (where I deleted all application prior to my test) in the same instance.
Anybody had these problems?

Well....I guess "they lied" would be me, huh?
Unfortunately, this is a bug. This issue with region titles was first reported in Bug in 4.1.1: Region Title translations is lost I recorded it as Bug 13801807 - REGION TITLE TRANSLATIONS LOST WHEN IMPORTING AS A NEW APPLICATION ID. It's fixed in APEX 4.2.
