VOD/On Demand (HBO/Cinemax HD) quality

I tried searching to see if others were experiencing this, but I did not appear to see any items at first glance.
We have been noticing a degradation of the quality of the On Demand selections from HBO/Cinemax HD. Primarily the program will begin well, but then at periodic intervals through the movie, pixelation occurs, to the point where we will losse some voice, and then it will return.
If you rewind back behind the point at which the degredation began, it will generally play fine, until the next time it happens - which can be anywhere between 5 minutes to 20 minutes later.
It can get rather frustrating when you are watching a movie and key dialog is missed, and you have to rewind to get back and figure out what they said.
I am also frustrated as to the amount of money I pay for the service, and yet it continues to be an issue.
Anyone else seen this issue, and if there are any suggestions on things that I could do to rectify it?
I am reluctant to call for service, and I believe that it is intermittant, and I can never generaly have it happen when I want to show someone.
Any help would be appreciated.

To help answer the questions - see below;
Are you using FIOS for internet? YES
What is your data plan? 5 down / 2 up
Have you tried a speedtest to see if you are getting the correct speeds? Yes - several times. All looks good
When you are watching these movies are you also using the internet? Yes - BUT generally it is just idle time, as the computer will be sitting on a web-site, little other traffic. (e.g. no VoIP or P2P applications running)
It's possible you are running out of bandwidth at these points for some reason.
I thought similarly, but I also thought that the system cached to the STB.The playing does not stop, and the points when it happens only last for up to 20 seconds, you generally only loose 5 seconds (approx) of dialog. Almost like there is some form of interference on the line.

BOARDWALK (and perhaps GAME OF THRONES) is the only reason to ever tune in to or bother with HBO..
You can say that now that Gandolfini is dead.  No one would say that to Tony's face if he were still around (smile).
More seriously, I have watched all of the Boardwalk episodes on a "catch up" basis, and I will continue to do so.  Yet I'm still inclined to say that The Sopranos remains in a class of its own after all things are taken into account.  David Chase did something with this material that cannot be duplicated.

  • Deals on Movie/HBO/Cinemax package

Hi, I was curious to know if there are any promo deals on the premium channels at the moment?

Did they activate this quickly for you?  I got a call 2 weeks ago and HBO and Cinemax have not been activated for me yet.  I already have the movie package, so I don't know if that is messing it up.
I would call the orders/billing department at 800-VERIZON and find out if there is a problem with the service order. In the South/West Area region we guarantee any orders placed prior to 12pm to be provisioned by 5pm, and any later than 12pm to be completed by 12am that night.

  • Movie/HBO/Cinemax Package billing

I signed up for FiOS about 5 months ago.  When I signed up I was given the movie channels and HBO for free.  I wasn't sure if after three months I would keep the channels and Verizon would just bill me, or if after three months I just lose the channels.  I suspected I would have to call to cancel them before I got billed.
So some time during my second month I called and asked.  I told them I didn't want the movie channels after my promo expired, and I asked if I needed to call back to cancel or not.  The woman told me not to worry about it, after three months I would just lose these channels.
Well here we are, month five, and I just noticed that I still have these channels.  I just received a new bill, and I'm being charged $30 each month.
What's it take to get some knowledgeable phone support????
The best part is, I have been trying to call support for the past hour, and after two minutes of prompts and automated recordings, I finally get to the part where I am transferred to a live person.  Only to have the call end with a message "Your call can not be completed at this time, please try again later."    AAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

I am sorry you've experienced this type of response from customer service. What kind of support are you trying to reach? Billing and Orders are open M-F 8am-6pm, and Tech support is open 24/7; both at phone number 888-553-1555.
FYI If you do decide to use the online live chat option, the consultant is to add the information from the chat session in a tool so that there is documentation of the contact in case somebody else in billing/orders department needs to refer to them.

  • Why do I have HBO and Cinemax if it's not part of my subscription?

Not understanding why I suddenly have HBO and Cinemax if I have not signed up for either one. I'm a new customer, just got a Fios bundle installed on Thursday. Have the TV Prime HD package with the free Epix/Starz/Showtime subscription. I never signed up for HBO/Cinemax and they're not listed on my programs online. Is this a free trial/preview type thing or should I contact Verizon about it?

    Free preview weekend starts 9/17

  • On-Demand picture kinda fuzzy

I have noticed that the movies that I play from the on-demand guide for subscription channels have a very different look.  The picture is usually somewhat fuzzy compared to regular programming.  What's the deal?  Anyone else had this problem?

Does anyone know if Verizon (a) puts out customer surveys and (b) responds to them in any meaningful way? I just tried three different non-HD movies and they're unwatchable because they're so blurry.  To say you offer the most HD is great, but let's be honest, without paying a lot extra, there aren't a heck of a lot of useful HD channels. Without getting all of the premium channels (we get the non-HBO/Cinemax package, whatever that's called) that cuts back even more on HD content.  All of that would be fine if the "standard" on-demand movies, shows, etc. were of decent quality, but they're absolute crap.  I can't believe it, but Comcast had more offerings for OD and much better quality.
Come on Verizon, plenty of customers are complaining, but I have yet to see a response ... be it an actual change in service or at least anything more than lip service to future plans.  How is it you can be content to be compared to Comcast and to come out in second place?

  • How extensive is the free on-demand library

contemplating switching from comcast to verizon, but can't find any information about how extensive the on-demand library to allow you to watch - for free - past episodes of tv shows.  which shows, how many episodes are made available, etc.  My kids use this comcast functionality ALL.THE.TIME and i can't afford $1 per show each time they want to go watch past episodes of favorite or new shows.  I know they can dvr stuff, but sometimes they just go back and watch an entire season of a show someone told them they would like.  i need to know that they can still do that with verizon without it costing me an extra $50 in flexview charges each month.

Its actually fairly large.  Many of the channels you subscribe to have free content.  Obviously you can't use them if you are not subscribed.
All the regular TV networks and many others have free content.  The premium channels including all the movie channels (HBO, Cinemax, Showtime,Stars, The Movie Channel, EPIX, etc) have free content to subscribers.
Make sure you turn on parental controls (even if you don't decide to restrict content) and under parental controls chose to restrict purchases (can be same code or different code than parental controls).  Just to make sure no purchases are made without your consent.

  • Continuing Problems with VOD

For nearly a month now I have had problems with VOD.  Any time I try to use VOD, whether its HBO, Showtime or one of the other channels, the video starts and immediately pixilates and the audio breaks up.  I have had two different FIOS techs to my house and the last tech after spending hours checking everything finally convinced the people at the "central office" that the problem was at their end.  They promised to fix, reset  or replace one of the cards at the CO to fix the problem overnight.  When I checked the next day, the problem had gotten worse -more pixilation, broken up audio.  On 6 consecutive days I have called tech support and each day they tell me they are in the process of resetting or replacing the card and give me a time by which they expect the problem to be fixed.  Needless to say, when I check the next day, the issue had not been resolved.  I did learn from the tech that the problem card is something called a GigE card.  At this point there must be hundreds if not thousands of other FIOS users experiencing the same problem.  It is now going on a month since VZ has been unable to provide me a service they promote so heavily.  And since I only watch TV in a time shifted manner, the triple play that costs me over $180/month has become virtually worthless to me.
VZ needs to address this problem.  If not, I guess I will have to do the unthinkable and switch back to Cablevision.

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Please go to your profile page for the forum, and look in the middle, right at the top where you will find an area titled "My Support Cases".  You can reach your profile page by clicking on your name beside your post, or at the top left of this page underneath the title of the board.

  • I-movie verses I-photo quality questions

I am starting to learn i movie, and while creating a production i noticed that the slide show in i-photo looks beautiful as far as quality goes, but in i-movie the same photos lack the clarity i expect. are they two different beasts,or can i expect more from i-movie?
Also is there any school of thought on wether i-movie is up to the task for creating quality shows on an lcd projector,or should i be getting something else? i want the ultimate resolution show i can do,but honestly this movie stuff confuses me with its limitations. i am supplying i-movie with 6 meg jpg files which i gather is almost to much info for it.

    Hello Donald,
You may want to have a look at a Slideshow software package from Boinx; it's called FotoMagico and you can download the software free of charge for a duration of 6 days. They recommend OSX 10.4 and preferably the latest "dual chip" system ! It took me quite some time to understand how the thing worked !!! The "help screen" is only basic; but you get good response from the "Support Team", although there can be some delays in the process.
Because of the limitations of my Computer, I was not able to project the results via a projector or even burn to DVD, but the image quality on my computer screen is superb; you dictate which resolution you want to end up with, including the 16.9 format 1920 x 1080. To modify an image to the format you want is child play. The Audio side has me still puzzled as to how to trim the sound to fit a sequence in a smooth way; it is certainly not to the level in terms of facility and flexibility in use, of that in iMovie.
I think you'll need to spend a fair bit of money for a good projector, probably DLP rather than LCD. I've seen some A/V 1024 x 768 which looked pretty good, but the projector was part of a fixed professional installation.
Keep in mind though that you still can't beat the quality of top quality, sharp slides, projected in the conventional way with top quality optics. On the other hand, video projectors can throw a lot of light onto the screen !
I think you and I are probably demanding a level of quality in video projection which is not quite as yet readily available at a reasonnable price; looking at the latest Sony top of the range porojector, it's on the way, but too expensive for me !
    Good luck

  • Lower graphics quality after updating 2.2.1.

Is it just me, or any body else has notice that some of the buttons and transparencies on the iPhone are lower in quality than the early 2.2. version of the firmware? I just update to 2.2.1 yesterday but ever since I've notice this, for example, *look closely on the keyboard of the phone app, check the green button to place the call, it looks blur!* I don't remember if this looks the same on the previous 2.2. version, but I don't remember notice it before. Is like if they use a lower render bitmap here.
Am I becoming very demanding with the graphics or just been paranoid?
By the way, have no trouble with battery or dropped calls. Everything seems to work fine, except for the lack of quality in some graphics and some minor bug when I wake the phone, the click sound does not sound louder all the times, sometimes it sound very low.

I hope I'm just been paranoid, I'll hate to see the quality of the graphics on the iPhone dropped, because the interface is just so beautiful and well care in every detail. And well after all, Apple has always been in the market of graphics ever since they came up with the first graphic interface for the Mac back in 1984. I'll always think that mac os graphics look better that other OS, and now the iPhone looks like nothing before, so, that's what I'm been so demanding on the graphic quality issue. Right now, my iPhone is what keeps me close to Apple Computer, because right now, I'm stuck with a windows pc computer for the moment, and the iPhone is my Mac right now, so I don't want to lose high quality graphics, imagine how will you feel, if all of the sudden your mac os X desktop looks like Windows desktop? That's a nightmare! Right?

  • Cinemax is now included with your package at no additional cost!

Did anyone else get this email - will I save money or will this cost me more money? I assume save? Anyone have more details?
    Dear Customer:
Good news for customers currently subscribed to the Ultimate FiOS® TV package. Cinemax is now included with your package at no additional cost!
We will change your current HBO/Cinemax subscription to HBO only. Your account will be credited for the price difference between HBO/Cinemax and HBO from the effective date of the Ultimate Package change. Please note you may not see these reflected on your bill for several months.
Additionally, if you are currently receiving an HBO/Cinemax promotion, you will continue to enjoy it against your HBO package for the duration of your promotional period.
No action is needed on your part. We will take care of these changes for you!
    Thank you for choosing Verizon.
    Sincerely,
    Verizon

I believe it means if you were getting a promotional rate of 1/2 off an HBO/Cinemax package it would continue although you were only getting charged for HBO.   Of course my experience was not as described above.   When I noticed the change on my bill today I called FIOS and learned that Cinemax was now included in my highest tier TV package.  I would only be charged for HBO  - HOWEVER the CSR could not apply a 1/2 discount to HBO.  So now I  pay more for HBO alone then I did for HBO/Cinemax together - $16.99 vs $12.50 (with the credit).   I just canceled HBO today.

  • Apple tv with HBO Go

I subscribe to Showtime, HBO, CInemax, and Epix, I have These services on my iPhone and iPad, are they available through Apple TV, or do I have to Airplay them through a device?

HBO GO is not airplay enabled, therefore basic airplay will only result in audio and no video. I also understand that HBO have found a way to disable the mirroring feature of the iPad when using its HBO GO app.

  • HBO GO Problems

Can someone please tell why  I can't use this "free"  service even though I pay for hbo/cinemax????? I have been on the telephone with everyone from technical support, to financial services and even the billing dept. Only for someone to tell me to go to www.hbogo.com to log on myself.  Once I did that I still received the same error message"subscription required"?????? Either there is some false advertising going or I am being billed for full services and only receiving partial services. Help or Brighthouse here I come!!!!!!

the way that I do it is I go to www.verizon.com/fiostvonline
i sign in there with my username and password that I use to look at my bill and pay my bill (if you can't pay your bill with your log in then you're using the wrong username)
once I am in there, there's an option for me to surf around hbo and espn etc.  i click on hbo and It starts playing.
    try that

  • I need a HD DVR 6416 STB

I'm not sure how many Verizon employees use these forums or if any consumers know of any solutions to my problem but I figured I'd give this a try.
I recently purchased a Samsung theater consisting of the LED UN46B600, BluRay BD-P1600 and SoundBar HT-WS1R. All devices can use a technology called Anynet+. Follow this link for more information. In short, Anynet+ allows every Samsung device to be controlled by one remote and putting a DVD in the player will cause the input to switch and sound system to switch input (if applicable). This is especially important to me because the Fios remote does not have a compatible code with the BluRay player and the Fios remote cannot adjust the TV's menu options (which I frequently do for picture quality).
The Anynet+ feature will not work with the Motorola HD DVR QIP7216 because the box interferes with the HDMI-CEC signal. The purpose of this post is to not only notify consumers and staff of this issue but to see if anyone knows where I can get a LEGAL HD DVR 6416 STB. This older STB is completely compatible with Anynet+ so therefore, I need it. I currently have a Verizon employee who is calling retail stores but I am sure there are far too many to contact them all. If any of you know where I can get the QIP6416 or have any ideas for a fix, please let me know.
As a side note, I would just like the to say that the Verizon staff have been very helpful over these past few days. This is not
a typical problem and they have really worked hard to find a solution. They have even provided me with a free 3 month trial of HBO/Cinemax. I have been very happy with the service since I switched from Comcast, I do not want to have to switch back because of this.
P.S. A universal remote is not a solution
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

All of Verizon cable boxes are part of a controlled inventory which means that you can not pick up their DVR's from outside third party retailers or off the internet from other customers.   Once you have the cable box, Verizon needs to activate the cable box for use, and if it's not part of the inventory or has been reported as unrecoverable or missing or stolen, then they won't activate it.
The best way to get a 6416 is through a field technician.  They are the only ones that can sift around looking for a 6416 model.  A verizon rep calling on your behalf to the various VZ stores is the next best thing, but other than that, over the phone tech support and customer service simply check mark DVR and the system indiscriminately sends whatever DVR is in inventory.
So if in inventory there are a bunch of 7216;s there is nothing that a vz employee can check mark that says to grab a 6416 instead, and so if you have a Field tech or a vz employee making calls to the stores for you (you can also get a list of stores online and make some calls yourself too) then that is the best options that you can excercise.
stores can be found online here, https://www22.verizon.com/Residential/Templates/sas/sas_StoreLocator.aspx  but make sure you call.   A lot of stores don't do repair style exchanges for reasons like you're describing, so if they do it will have to be on an individual case basis, they normally will refer you to call the repair desk   888 553 1555
