Voice Control Causing iPhone4 to Lock Up

When I use the voice control to make a phone call, I can make the call normally, but the phone locks up when I am done. I cannot end the call or use any of the buttons. I have to leave the phone for a minute or two before I can even restart it. Restarting is the only way to get functionality back. Any ideas?

This is a problem with the new Macbook Pro laptops, not with keynote.
Check the forum for MBP and you will find a list of several hundred complaints for exactly this problem (mine is one of them).
Apparently its a bug in the driver or in the new nvidia chip in these models. Apple doesn't appear to have acknowledged the problem yet.
A workaround seems to be to restart with the projector (Folsom) already plugged in - works for me anyway.

Voice Control and phone lock

Hi everyone,
I was testing my new iPhone 4 while I noticed that, despite the fact that there's a passcode set in order to use it, Voice Control still works.
So even if a person does not have the passcode, the phone is allowed to make calls, play music and do everything Voice Control allows.
Isn't that.. wrong?
Or am I missing some different angle for this function?

Settings->General->Passcode Lock->Voice Dial

If you're concerned, you could always create wallpaper with some sort of ID/contact information and place it on the lock screen. I wouldn't suggest using any direct contact for you, of course, for privacy reasons, but perhaps some sort of "neutral" emergency contact such as a relative's cell phone.
Or just carry some sort of ID; depending on a cell phone for identification probably isn't reliable regardless of the phone used. A MedicAlert bracelet or something similar might be your best option since that would allow emergency responders to get your information while still protecting your privacy.

Have you tried to power off and on? If that doesn't work and the reset didn't work, have you tried connecting to iTunes to see if it is recognized?
If none of this works you probably need to visit an Apple genius bar and have it checked out by the techs.

I have a new iphone 5, if I push and hold the home key I can email, call, message or ask a question to siri and use the phone even though it's 'locked'. I went into password lock and switched siri off so this no longer happens - but that's not the case. Siri won't work but voice control does and I can still call round the world or email, text etc... help. This means my phone is never safe.

How long of a delay do you have for Require Passcode lock? Did you wait that long before attempting to use Siri from the lock screen?
I have a 4s and turning off Allow Access When Locked for Siri and then waiting the 5 minutes for my passcode to be required and it worked. Maybe the iPhone 5 is different?

I think you mean VoiceOver, that is where the iPod "talks" to you
You have the accessibility VoiceOver feature turned on.
Triple click the home button and try going to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn VoiceOver off. You may have to use three fingers to scroll the screen to get there. If problems see the following for how to turn off via iTunes:

Otherwise
Try:
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try another cable
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Help!! iPhone 4 Voice Control and screen lock

Hi. I have an iPhone 4 and this morning out of the blue, the Voice Control started coming on. It doesn't matter what I am doing. Also, the screen keeps locking up. Any screen I am on. I do not use ear buds and it hasn’t been wet. Please help

I tried the reset and it did not work. What happens is I will go to an app. (Like now I am in the text messaging app). I am stuck here. I can reply, create a message, and maneuver through the texting screens, but I am stuck in text messaging until I turn it off... Then, when I restart and go to any other app, I get the same thing.
Then there is the voice command. The thing that allows you to speak a command, such as call office, or facetime... It pops up randomly.
All of this started this morning. I haven't dropped it, gotten it wet, or anything. I don't understand.

If our iphone is locked with pass code we can make a call using voice control.
Press and Hold the Home button then you will get the Voice Control Menu.
Choose Dial or Call then you can make call.
Is it IOS Bugs or...

It is a feature.
You can disable it at Settings > General > Passcode > Voice Dial if you wish.

This would generally only happen if you had set a passcode on your phone and never subsequently synced your phone after setting it. Regardless, at this point you may have to enter the passcode on your phone with VoiceOver on.
With VoiceOver on the gestures on the phone operate differently. You first have to tap once to select an item you want to activate, then double-tap it to activate it. To enter the number 1 for example, you would first tap 1 once, then double-tap the 1 to enter it. Then continue with the other numbers in your passcode. Also, to scroll the screen, you drag or swipe the screen with three fingers.
Assuming you can enter your passcode by following this procedure, you turn off VoiceOver in settings by following these steps exactly as written:
Press Home.
Tap Settings. Then double-tap Settings.
Tap General. Then double-tap General.
Use three fingers on the screen to scroll to Accessibility.
Tap Accessibility. Then double-tap Accessibility.
Tap VoiceOver. Then double-tap VoiceOver.
Tap "On" next to VoiceOver. Then double-tap "On" to turn it off.

Hey, recently my phone has this problem that the voice control kept activating itself when I am using my phone sometimes and even when I was away from it. You can't disable voice control. The only setting is to turn off the Voice Dial feature: Settings->General->Passcode Lock->Voice Dial

How do I prevent Iphone 6 voice control from activating

I had the problem on my 4 but I thought it was just old. Now, my Iphone 6 is 2 days old and it is doing the same thing!!!!!!
The voice control activates on it's own for no reason and then impacts music play. The songs are sped up and then skip around as voice control keeps cutting in. I do not have shake to shuffle on and I do not have Siri active. This seems to be a recurring problem since the 3. Can Apple please address it, I am about to return my Iphone 6!!

holy cow, I thought I was cursed until I read your question. My iphone 4 was driving me crazy for its last month activating Voice Contol on its own. I too thought it had just gotten old. I've had my 6 plus for two days and the same thing is now happening!!   That inane blue screen and doorbell noise popping up.   I feel like throwing the phone at the wall.
Seeing you have the same problem is a bit insightful because it suggests that it's not the phone but something else. How else could both of us have identical problems at the same time with four phones?
i am wondering if somehow we have a bugged backup that is causing the problem to propagate itself?   Sometimes my ipad 2 also has music playing issues but no voice control problems. I.e., I can be listening to Pandora and suddenly the music pauses itself.
Another problem I had on my iphone 4 at the end was that it would suddenly pause music as well. Other times it would speed playback up as if I were holding the scrubbing key down. Did you have anything similar?
I wonder if backing the phone up with a version say two months or so ago is worth a shot?

IPhone 4s - Voice Control

On the iPhone 4S how do you turn off voice controls? My husband and I both have the iPhone 4s and his constantly turns on his voice controls and when we go through the settings on the phones (since mine doesn't do that) to try to find the difference he has something marked voice control by Siri and mine doesn't. Any idea why and how do we turn off his voice control so he doesn't keep calling people by accident. He has tried locking his phone with a code and it still does it.

Quickly press the power button to lock the iPhone. It cannot do anything unless you press and hold the Home button so I don't understand how it is doing anything unless he has small objects in his pocket pressing only on teh Home button when he neds over.

Voice control does not kick in place of SIRI when there is no internet connection

i have an iPhone 4s. i mainly use WIFI at both home and work. and am quite happy with SIRI. but when i leave home for work or am on my way back home after work quite often i press and hold the volume button to give voice command to call my wife. but SIRI does not work!
well, because SIRI needs internet connection and i dont bother using mobile internet (cause then i will need to turn on 3G which drains my battery like nothing on earth) it can not work.
but why does not my ordinary voice control kick in? since 4S is such a great gadget and is so smart in every way (apart from the pictures taken with the volume button could not be turned to adjust orientation in windows!) i was expecting this would be a normal thing to expect from it.
anyways, hope someday they would fix this.

I'm assuming you can either use Siri or Voice Control, but not both. I think if you turn Siri on the activation used to use Siri is removed from Voice Control and vice versa. This is just my own theory. Maybe a future software update might allow this.
