Can not play podcast with voice control command
Is there any way to play a podcast with voice commands? I've been trying everything, "Play podcast Science Friday", "Play NPR Science Friday", "Play This American Life". I'm pretty sure Apple left this feature out. I thought they would have fixed it by iOS4. It's nice they added, "What time is it?" but I think this would be more useful. While I'm driving, sometimes I like to listen to music, sometimes I like to listen to podcasts.
I'm surprised more people haven't complained about this. Can we please elevate this to a bug/feature request?
ThanksI've always had this problem, where "play" and "pause" does not work with podcasts through voice commands, which is rather dangerous when I'm driving and have to fumble with the touchscreen while using an A2DP headset. I don't usually have any music loaded, since I prefer listening to podcasts, Pandora or FM radio. Yesterday, I synced ONE song onto my iPhone, and suddenly it works with podcasts. I then removed it and it stopped working again. Apparently, if there is no music iPhone thinks that there is nothing to play, even if there are podcasts, which is a pretty stupid BUG. I still have not been able to play artists or titles, but now I can say "play playlist <list-name>" or "play" to resume a podcast that is paused.
Of course, no matter what I say, half the time it dials a random number from my contacts! -
HT3597 commands for voice control
Is there a list of commands for voice control?
Yea, I have a friend who has noticed this issue on his Z10.
I've tested on my Z30, and the voice feedback is loud and clear. We'll have to figure out the differenced in the devices or OS release, or settings.
What is your Operating System loaded to your device? Look at Options > From the main screen, swipe down from the top black bezel to Settings > About... what is the OS Version listed there?

My daughter's iPod is using voice over and won't scroll. What setting did my child click? It will allow me to use voice control, but i need to know what's wrong first so I can give the correct command.
VoiceOver is an Accessibility feature while Voice Control allows you to control the Music app via voice.
To turn off VoiceOver triple click the Home button and go to Settings>General>Accessibility and turn it off. Use three fingers to scroll if necessary.

Voice Control - does it learn and what's the "Wrong" command for?
1) Like others, I find Voice Control laughably inaccurate sometimes when trying to get it to play an artist. I'm wondering if it "learns" and gets better the more you use it?
2) In the manual, there's a command you can called "wrong" or "nope". In what situation would I use it? Whenever I've tried so far, by the time I get to say it, the original (incorrect) command has already executed!"Wrong" or "No" is for stopping a command and returning voice control to the listening phase. "Cancel" takes you out of voice control. If the command is to play or call a specific name, you can cancel it, but if it's a simple command like "play", "shuffle", "genius", or "what's playing" there is no cancel.
VC for iPod control seems to have a serious bug. It's not inaccurate, it's just not working.
There seems to be a condition where it will only recognize the first few artists in your library, and often not at all. I have restored my phone several times, rebuilt my iTunes library on the PC, and have yet to get it working properly.
I have experienced, variously, after each restore and reload of the phone:
- Voice control will not start, or never gets to where it is listening (with the waveform). This can usually be fixed by a hard reset.
- Only artists from the first part of the alphabet are recognized. Only albums by these artists are recognized, regardless of letter. If I say anything else, it will pick the artist/album from these artists that sounds the most like what I say. One time it was artists A-F, the other time it was just the first 4 "A" artists. Contacts and playlists are recognized OK.
- Even worse: No artists, albums, or playlists are recognized. Simple commands and contacts still work. This is where I'm at now, after a clean load of iTunes, a newly built iTunes library, a complete restore of the iPhone software, and set up as a NEW phone (no backup restored). That's as clean as you can get.
I've been to the Genius Bar, and I've called support. Both times they have escalated my case to an an engineer. Apple is willing to replace my phone in-store tomorrow, but I don't think it is a hardware problem: The mic works, the headset mic works, and other VC features work.
The only thing I can think of at this point is there is some artist/album name in my library that is causing it to fail? -
Iphone 4 Voice Control not working Properly after iCloud Contacts sync
Hi All,
I am facing a strange problem. Recently I enabled iCloud settings to sync contacts from my iPhone to iCloud.
It asked me that do I want to merge the contacts from iCloud onto this iPhone. Obviously I clicked yes.
What it did was actually not sync all but around 1/3 of my contact list and erasing the remaining. The other 2/3 of my contact list wasn't on both iCloud or iPhone.
So I decided to restore my iPhone from the backup i took just before enabling iCloud. But I forgot to switch off the iCloud settings for not syncing Contacts.
Although I recovered all my contacts from the backup, my voice control has stopped recognizing my remaining 2/3 of the contact list that did not actually sync.
It can recognize all the contacts that were synced with iCloud, but not the ones that got erased.
After backup restore, iCloud settings was switched to off state and I did not dare enabling it back on.
Has anyone observed this behaviour? I just cannot seem to get the voice control recognize the remaining 2/3 contacts at all. I tried renaming the contact that it recognized to some other name and it still does not recognize the new ones.
Please help me find out the reason for this and how can i fix it?I'm getting this too. It's very slow and apparently thinks "Call Sue Newport" sounds like "Call Halfords" or "Call Halyards" and, most surprisingly "Call First Great Western".
I was wearing my Jawbone Bluetooth headset so it's nothing to do with background noise.
I tried the new "What time is it?" command which works but takes about 10-15 seconds to activate. -
IPhone 3Gs Voice Control does not work
Purchased IPhone 3Gs 32g beside having no service were I live (AT&T is building a cell tower about a mile from my house) my Voice control only works about 1% of the time. For the Ipod I usually get some kind of error message “like listing not found” when it does find an album or artist it always the same one. I am sick of hearing Santana. For call when I do get a signal I also usually get an error message or if it works it pick on of my doctors and that’s it.
Went to the Genesis bar and they said it was a software problem, they gave me a new IPhone with my old sims card, but the did not test the new IPhone Voice control in the store because there were on contacts or albums in the memory.
Got home synced the new one and guess what same exact problem. I have read and tried everything on the internet and nothing has worked any ideas or suggestions ? Please help I tired of listing to Santana and calling Dr. Aronald. There's a few things you can try that might help out.
No. 1 Make sure your genius results are updated. If you're saying "Play music like Snoop Dogg" it's going to try to make a genius playlist, and that might be why you have no results found.
No. 2 Speak slower. This might sound kinda dumb, I'm not trying to be a smartass. I found that my voice command worked 200% better when I spoke just a little bit slower. Not sure why exactly, but the difference was night and day.
No. 3 When calling someone (on purpose of course) it helps to sometimes add "mobile" at the end if the number is listed as mobile in your contact book. Usually you only need to do this if the contact has more then one number, but it helps even if they don't just to eliminate any ambiguity from the voice command.
Hope that helps! -
Need key commands list - complete
can someone do me a favor and email me the clipboard output of the comprehensive key command list? i'm not in a position to do this myself right at the moment. if someone chimes up, i'll reply with the email address to send it to. no formating or anything is necessary.
also, for those that use key commands a lot and have some complex customization, what is your opinion on its reliability? my questioning is due to the possible utilization of a remote session of logic, receiving custom MIDI sysex commands to basically remote control functionality via MIDI. (i will be sending commands via TCP, but there will be a local server sending MIDI to the host machine) do key commands ever not execute? if you send a rapid sequence of key commands, do they execute in a predictable fashion? etc...Why do you need to use Sysex commands? They're so much more complicated to program and keep track of...
In terms of reliability, sometimes I find that key commands "go bad". This is almost always a case of "key label" commands going bad and to fix the problem they need to be re-programmed as "key position". That's the only buggy behavior re key commands, aside from the bugs in the key command window itself. But that's another story. Here's the list:

Voice Control dialling on 3GS via Bluetooth in UK English language
When I first got my iphone 3GS in Feb 2010 I was really delighted with the voice-control dialling via Bluetooth. I speak UK English and the language is set to "English (United Kingdom)". I have about 1200 contacts in the iphone's database. The OS was OS3. It worked beautifully.
Since upgrading the OS to OS4 in mid-2010 the system has never worked properly. There are some archived discussions on this problem. It became clear that the early versions of OS4 only worked if you set the voice-control language to US English and spoke with a north-american accent. In subsequent versions of OS4 it seemed that things had improved, and I even posted a comment thanking Apple for fixing it! Sorry about that - I was wrong...
All that has happened is that Apple have slightly improved matters, in that searching the contacts list under voice control now sometimes works - but it is still very poor under Bluetooth. It usually gets the search wrong - and the quality of the Bluetooth communication when using Voice Control is very poor. You can't hear the search responses clearly. I don't think that there is anything wrong with my Bluetooth connection, per se, as phone conversations over Bluetooth are just fine. The problem is only with voice-control via Bluetooth. I am currently on OS 4.3.3 (8J2).
Does anyone else find that Voice-control dialling via Bluetooth is unreliable, using a 3GS on OS4, speaking in a language other than US English?
Maybe someone has a way of making it work properly?in the same boat with a 2006 bmw. the button on the steering wheel dials the last number that was dialed from the cars system, it doesn't behave like default "action" button that is on bluetooth headsets -- that is the issue.
Is there some way to 1) remap the button in the car (doubtful) or 2) have the car dial a "phone number" that tells the phone to respond with the voice command through the bluetooth system (maybe, but also doubtul) -
Intermittent Voice Control Over Bluetooth
I'm finding that voice control over Bluetooth using my Plantronics 510 headset regularly stops working, while other Bluetooth functions remain active.
Normally, holding the button on the headset down will activate Voice Control. I can hear the "listening" tone, and the phone responds to my command (e.g. "Call Telecon One Work").
On several occasions, I've found that holding the button fails to activate Voice Command, but other BT functions controlled by the headset button still work - a double press, for example, still redials the last number. After rebooting the phone, voice command is once again available by pushing the headset button.
OT - At some point, it would be nice if iPhone OS 3.1 was added to the list of OS choices in the pulldown menu for discussion posts.I'm having the same problem. For me, the problem only starts after I plug in the iPhone to charge (while connected to the bluetooth).
Is that the same for you? -
IPod voice controls broken on 3GS with iOS5
After upgrading to iOS 5, the music voice controls on my 3GS stopped functioning completely, i.e. voice commands such as "play playlist...", "play songs by...", "play album...". All of this worked well before and now only results in a "No match found". Dialing voice controls work just as well as before the upgrade.
Does anyone else have that problem? It seems to me as if the voice control simply does not realize that the music is there... Is there some way to "re-synch" the music library on the iPhone with the voice control, or something similar?A friend on 4G couldn't activate voice recognition after the IOS5 upgrade (although my phone worked fine) - it kept saying "no match found". After playing around with the settings, we tried reversing the display order of the contacts (last, first / first, last), and voila - voice recognition worked again!
The great I.T. fix-all works wonders: "Have you tried turning it off and on again". I recommend giving the contact list swap a try (by the way, we then put it back to it's original settings and it worked fine) to see if it resets your voice control. -
Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems
Ford Voice Control & iPod playlist problems
I am having problems with the voice control system and my video ipod (5th gen) in a new Ford Focus Coupè-Convertible which also has Bluetooth phone conectivity ( works great with my iPhone 3G) as well as USB & Voice Control
This is all done through a Sony audio unit (model Sony 6CD DAB) which has a Six disc CD changer built in, as well as the usual FM & AM Radio bands as well as DAB Radio.
My problem relates to the voice control of my ipod and playlists.
Now some commands work just great For example if I say the following sequence ( which the unit repeats back to me at each stage) it works great:
"External Device"
"iPod"
"Play"
All works well as it starts playing whatever playlist the iPod was in prior to connection to the unit, or if no playlist had been selected it just plays the whole contents of the iPod. - It also works fine with the commands "Shuffle" or "Repeat".
But according to the user manual I am supposed to be able to play or select a specific playlist by voice command using the following syntax as quoted from the manual:
'...create playlists named with the structure "Ford<*>" where <*> is a number 1-10. For example "Ford7" without any spaces between "Ford" and the number.
So I made several playlist called
Ford1
Ford2
Ford3
and so on up to Ford10.
Now according to the voice commands list I should say the following phrases which like before, are repeated back to me by the system:
"External Device"
"iPod"
"Playlist"
Then the unit responds with
"Playlist Number Please"
Then according to the manual I should say the following:
But when I say either
'Ford1'
Or
'1'
Or any right up to 'Ford10' / '10'
It responds bystating that playlist number (X) not available.
I have also tried with the quotation marks ("") around the name eg "Ford1", but that has not worked either.
So I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this problem and knew a solution, or could tell me where I am going wrong.
Although my car is a UK model, I believe that this voice control system is available with Sony units in American cars as well.
Hope you can help as this is driving me nuts!
ThanksHi Drusus.
I also have a European Ford (Focus ST - 2009) with the same problem.
Have you found any solution to the problem, or know if its possible to contact Ford...?
Cheers.

Voice Control through LabVIEW pinouts
Hello everyone,
I'm working on a Voice Controlled Robot which I will be utilizing LabVIEW as well as .net in order to implement the Voice Recognition System. I'm getting a list of commands ready to implement. Does anyone know whether I will need 1 pin per command on the DAQ? or how does this work. My thinking was that I'll will need 1 pin on the DAQ sent to an arduino which in turn will go to my motor controller (Sabertooth 2x25), this is turn will operate my motors for the appropriate command. Has anyone done anything similar to this?
Thanks!EMET_ENGR wrote:

.net to LabVIEW to DAQ to Arduino to Motor Controller - Did you just decide to use every piece of equipment on your desk?!
As Intaris has said, you haven't given us nearly enough detail, but I would say that this is several layers of complexity too many. Why not simply communicate with the Arduino directly using the LIFA toolkit or serially? This is a much better solution than sending digiatl lines high on a DAQ to send messages.

IPhone-4 Voice Control not working properly
I'm facing trouble with the iphone-4 voice control. Its not correctly recognizing my voice commands. When I ask it to call a specific phone number it never dials the correct number, I have notice that it happens for some specific numbers when asked to dial. Also , songs are also sometime not correctly recognized and a wrong songs/album starts playing. But, when I tried same phone numbers or songs playing command on a Google Powered android phone..it recognizes all voice commands correctly and works perfectly fine. I think apple needs to fix this issue..right now the voice control ***** big time
I'm getting this too.
