Voice Control dialling on 3GS via Bluetooth in UK English language

When I first got my iphone 3GS in Feb 2010 I was really delighted with the voice-control dialling via Bluetooth.  I speak UK English and the language is set to "English (United Kingdom)".  I have about 1200 contacts in the iphone's database.  The OS was OS3.  It worked beautifully.
Since upgrading the OS to OS4 in mid-2010 the system has never worked properly.  There are some archived discussions on this problem.  It became clear that the early versions of OS4 only worked if you set the voice-control language to US English and spoke with a north-american accent.  In subsequent versions of OS4 it seemed that things had improved, and I even posted a comment thanking Apple for fixing it!   Sorry about that - I was wrong...
All that has happened is that Apple have slightly improved matters, in that searching the contacts list under voice control now sometimes works - but it is still very poor under Bluetooth.  It usually gets the search wrong - and the quality of the Bluetooth communication when using Voice Control is very poor.  You can't hear the search responses clearly.  I don't think that there is anything wrong with my Bluetooth connection, per se, as phone conversations over Bluetooth are just fine.  The problem is only with voice-control via Bluetooth.  I am currently on OS 4.3.3 (8J2).
Does anyone else find that Voice-control dialling via Bluetooth is unreliable, using a 3GS on OS4, speaking in a language other than US English?
Maybe someone has a way of making it work properly?

in the same boat with a 2006 bmw. the button on the steering wheel dials the last number that was dialed from the cars system, it doesn't behave like default "action" button that is on bluetooth headsets -- that is the issue.
Is there some way to 1) remap the button in the car (doubtful) or 2) have the car dial a "phone number" that tells the phone to respond with the voice command through the bluetooth system (maybe, but also doubtul)

  • IPod voice controls broken on 3GS with iOS5

After upgrading to iOS 5, the music voice controls on my 3GS stopped functioning completely, i.e. voice commands such as "play playlist...", "play songs by...", "play album...". All of this worked well before and now only results in a "No match found". Dialing voice controls work just as well as before the upgrade.
Does anyone else have that problem? It seems to me as if the voice control simply does not realize that the music is there... Is there some way to "re-synch" the music library on the iPhone with the voice control, or something similar?

A friend on 4G couldn't activate voice recognition after the IOS5 upgrade (although my phone worked fine) - it kept saying "no match found". After playing around with the settings, we tried reversing the display order of the contacts (last, first / first, last), and voila - voice recognition worked again!
The great I.T. fix-all works wonders: "Have you tried turning it off and on again".  I recommend giving the contact list swap a try (by the way, we then put it back to it's original settings and it worked fine) to see if it resets your voice control.

  • Print fotos from iphone 3gs via bluetooth

if at all possible, how does one print fotos from an iphone 3gs to a kiosk via bluetooth at retail stores... i work in one of the retail stores, own an iphone and am unable to figure out how to print fotos. the kiosk says to send fotos to kioskleft... no such thing found on iphone. haven't taken out sim card, so not sure if it's one that has an adapter necessary for use with a kiosk.

  • IOS 5 - problems tethering iPad 2 to iPhone 3GS via Bluetooth

Here's my two cents worth of trouble with iOS5:
-Update of my 3GS took ages, but that seems to be the norm and nothing to worry about.
-Tethering my non-3G iPad2 is now a problem: the personal hotspot is enabled, bluetooth enabled on ipad and iphone, connection is made, blue ribbon appears on phone telling me so, data plan should be OK (at least it was until Wednesday), APN and stuff for tethering entered on the mobile networks page. And yet all I get is: no connection to the internet. Not a single app seems to be able to connect, although an hour ago Safari seemed to be able to load a small amount of a page (but this took ages). iPhone works nicely, no data issues at all.
Has anybody else experienced this kind of a problem? Is there something I can do apart from wait for iOS 5.0.1?

Have you tried tethering via WiFi instead of Bluetooth?
No, because the 3GS unfortunately does not do WiFi tethering, this is only available for users of the iPhone 4(S). I was already glad that tethering worked via Bluetooth with my now-rapidly-approaching-ante-deluvian-status 3GS.
But "upgrading" to a 4S would probably solve a few problems, the only thing from stopping me is the investment resistance of several hundred Euros...

  • Is there a way to connect 4gs to a 3gs via bluetooth

just wondering if i can connect two iphones via bluetooth.

Search the iTunes Store for "bluetooth" and you'll find those apps that claim to offer such capability. Examples include Bluetooth Fileshare for files and vCard Sender for contacts. I don't know anything about either app other than what they claim in the description.
    Regards.

  • How could they not let top-end Bluetooth Headsets activate Voice Control

I love Voice Control. It was an important feature missing from the 3G. Also was a video function. They addressed both with the 3GS. But then what do they do, forget to let Voice Control be accessed by a Bluetooth Headset.
Don't get my wrong, probably not all Bluetooth Headsets can support picking up a Voice Control function from a random cell phone. But I have a $140 Headseat, the Motorola Pure H15. This is the Nissan GTR of Bluetooth Headsets. Trust me, if there's a function that a headset can possess, this one has it and more.
So after pairing with the 3GS, why can't it gain access to the Voice Control? Hold the H15 button and the 3GS redials the last number dialed, which is a universal language between headset and cell phone. So I know that works, but push the button and the H15 attempts to connect and shows this by expressing several different tones: an access tone, then a deactivated tone. It's a weird combination of tones when pressing the button, it's trying but not getting through.
I hope Apple can fix this by way of software and avoid a hardware revision. Please please! I hope it's a quick fix and that Apple has this missing function on their priority list of future updates.

fear not... the people out there testing 3.1 mention that voice control works via Bluetooth on 3.1 so just give it a couple months and the feature will be there

  • No voice control audio over bluetooth or FM Transmitter

I have a 3GS and actively use Voice Control. A couple weeks ago, for seemingly no reason, voice control stopped sending audio cues to my bluetooth headset and over my fm transmitter in the car.
Voice control still works but it's annoying without the audio cues. How do I get them back?

My voice control stopped responding to my bluetooth a couple of times. First time I restored my iPhone, but prefer not to do this. I tried doing a reset press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least 10 seconds, until the Apple logo appears. When the phone came back up my headset controlled the voice control again.

  • Voice Control on Iphone 4

I am loving my Iphone 4 but one thing is really bugging me.
I have had both the first gen iphone and 3GS. I always used the 3gs through my venturi mini bluetooth car kit and it worked great. To let my hubby know I was near his work to pick him up every night I would use the voice control of the 3GS and it always dialled perfectly.
But since getting the iphone 4 it is very hit and miss. It keeps saying the contact is not found and only dials after trying about 4 times. It also doesn't seem as good when you ask it to play "artist". Sometimes I speak and it doesn't do anything at all.
Does anyone else use the voice control/dial of the iphone 4 and find it ok?

More or less. Lots of posts where they have problems with Voice Control in i4. I've had problems and foregoed using the voice control all together. It's missing a great deal of options for instance in the iPod section.
I can't say "Genius Alt Metal Mix" which is my Genius Mix developed. It goes for "Playing Songs by Far" which is one of them. Nor ask to call Dad very easily if I have variations close to the word Dad.

  • Using ps3 control on Ps vita via blutooth

As far as I remember reading, the Bluetooth is only for audio? - so headphones etc, not controllers (at present) - I maybe wrong though... But since there's no TV out for he console (at present) they may not think there's a need for it on a hand held?

    Chrisobsession wrote:
are you god or something where you KNOW these answers ? you sound very arrogant saying "it's NEVER going to happen" anything is possible just cause the console has all these features there are some out there that would prefer to use a controller bluetooth ...  the customer is always right so if this idea is in demand by many, then sony will eventually patch this and add it to a firmware update .. and if they dont ... then some dev's will leak there ways on how they did it  don't give people false information if you DON'T know I think you need to get off your high horse. If I were you I'd think twice before flaming or insulting other people or accusing people of something when it's not true. It happens to be my opinion based on historically how Sony's stance has been on the subject, what they have said in the past and and what their focus is regards the Vita. You can think what you want and make yourself believe it will happen but it's not going to happen. You obviously have no clue as to what Sony are trying to do with the Vita or what direction they are going in. They aren't even providing remote play for PS3 games you seriously think they are going to enable PS3 control on the Vita via Bluetooth.

  • IPhone 5s with hearing aids via Bluetooth. Need to use the phone for voice, what's the best distance that the mic will pick up your voice

I wear hearing aids that are made for Apple, the audio will go into the hearing aids via Bluetooth. I'll need to use my phone for voice only.. I drive for work and have a wok oh one too and both are synced to a bluetooh headset (LG). I'm trying to figure out how to talk on both phones ( use speakerphone on work phone?) without using a bluretooh headset.  I don't know the range of the microphone on the IPHON, thinking about hanging it around my neck or put the phone into a stand/holder on the dash and use the speakerphone feature.  Looking for ideas to make this simple

You can't do anything with that problem.
Take your iPhone to the closest Apple Store and they will give you new one for 200€/$ or if you bought your iPhone in less than 12 months you will get it for free.

  • IPhone 3GS with iOS4 - voice control does not work any more

Hi - I updated the OS of my iPhone 3GS to iOS4 and everything went well. But ever since I did the update the voice control comes back with strange results when I try to use it. It was working well enough with OS3. Has anybody the same problems and is there a solution?
    Thanks,
    Klaus

I'm experiencing basically the same as teardrop3d. I'm Australian (with voice settings on English (Australian)) and my 3Gs had at least 90% accuracy with both calls and music requests.
On iOS4 I've had a single correct result out of at least 30 attempts at using it.
Requesting "play playlist <name>" will often either start calling a seemingly random person from my phone book (different each time anyway) or sometimes a seemingly random number (I don't know where the number comes from, it's not in my phone book). Sometimes it'll actually offer to play music, usually a specific artist (not a playlist) and occasionally a playlist (but so far never the right one).
Requesting "call <name> <number type>" has worked once correctly, but usually just tries to call a seemingly random number from my phone book (or a number I don't know, not in my phonebook...).
As teardrop3d notes, the voice control screen stays up for about 2-4 seconds after I finish talking. It doesn't seem to be recording during this time, as the waveform stops responding to my voice but the screen sits there (with words moving past in the background still) as if its waiting for me to keep talking.
I've tried talking in different accents to no avail, and didn't get any better results with a different English language setting on the Voice Control (I'm not sure if that's actually listening for different accents or just responding in a different accent?)
This feature which I used to use multiple times a day to avoid having to take my phone out of my pocket while walking/riding is now useless. I continue to test it each day to see if it ever works, or if there are any behaviours that change it (e.g. locked vs unlocked or with music playing/not playing when I press/hold the mic-button, etc) but so far haven't found any workarounds.

  • IPhone 3Gs Voice Control does not work

Purchased IPhone 3Gs 32g beside having no service were I live (AT&T is building a cell tower about a mile from my house) my Voice control only works about 1% of the time. For the Ipod I usually get some kind of error message “like listing not found” when it does find an album or artist it always the same one. I am sick of hearing Santana. For call when I do get a signal I also usually get an error message or if it works it pick on of my doctors and that’s it.
Went to the Genesis bar and they said it was a software problem, they gave me a new IPhone with my old sims card, but the did not test the new IPhone Voice control in the store because there were on contacts or albums in the memory.
Got home synced the new one and guess what same exact problem. I have read and tried everything on the internet and nothing has worked any ideas or suggestions ? Please help I tired of listing to Santana and calling Dr. Aronald.

There's a few things you can try that might help out.
No. 1 Make sure your genius results are updated. If you're saying "Play music like Snoop Dogg" it's going to try to make a genius playlist, and that might be why you have no results found.
No. 2 Speak slower. This might sound kinda dumb, I'm not trying to be a smartass. I found that my voice command worked 200% better when I spoke just a little bit slower. Not sure why exactly, but the difference was night and day.
No. 3 When calling someone (on purpose of course) it helps to sometimes add "mobile" at the end if the number is listed as mobile in your contact book. Usually you only need to do this if the contact has more then one number, but it helps even if they don't just to eliminate any ambiguity from the voice command.
    Hope that helps!
