  • Voice Control dialling on 3GS via Bluetooth in UK English language

When I first got my iphone 3GS in Feb 2010 I was really delighted with the voice-control dialling via Bluetooth.  I speak UK English and the language is set to "English (United Kingdom)".  I have about 1200 contacts in the iphone's database.  The OS was OS3.  It worked beautifully.
Since upgrading the OS to OS4 in mid-2010 the system has never worked properly.  There are some archived discussions on this problem.  It became clear that the early versions of OS4 only worked if you set the voice-control language to US English and spoke with a north-american accent.  In subsequent versions of OS4 it seemed that things had improved, and I even posted a comment thanking Apple for fixing it!   Sorry about that - I was wrong...
All that has happened is that Apple have slightly improved matters, in that searching the contacts list under voice control now sometimes works - but it is still very poor under Bluetooth.  It usually gets the search wrong - and the quality of the Bluetooth communication when using Voice Control is very poor.  You can't hear the search responses clearly.  I don't think that there is anything wrong with my Bluetooth connection, per se, as phone conversations over Bluetooth are just fine.  The problem is only with voice-control via Bluetooth.  I am currently on OS 4.3.3 (8J2).
Does anyone else find that Voice-control dialling via Bluetooth is unreliable, using a 3GS on OS4, speaking in a language other than US English?
Maybe someone has a way of making it work properly?

in the same boat with a 2006 bmw. the button on the steering wheel dials the last number that was dialed from the cars system, it doesn't behave like default "action" button that is on bluetooth headsets -- that is the issue.
Is there some way to 1) remap the button in the car (doubtful) or 2) have the car dial a "phone number" that tells the phone to respond with the voice command through the bluetooth system (maybe, but also doubtul)

  • Voice control no longer works after upgrade to iOS 4

Everything about iOS 4 has been great so far on my 3Gs, except that voice control no longer works. Holding the home button still brings up the voice control, and the "voice" confirms whatever action I say, but then instead of doing whatever it is supposed to, the phone just goes back to the home screen. Everything in voice control worked fine before I updated to iOS 4, so obviously it is a software issue. Has anyone else having the same issue?

I'm having the same problems. I have a 32GB iPhone 3GS which I upgraded to iOS 4.0 (previously running 3.1.3).
I've tried a full restore as well as changing the Voice Control language settings in General > International > Voice Control. I'm English and based in the UK and had my Voice Controls previously set to English (British). The weird thing is if I set my Voice Control to English (American) and then impersonate an American accent - then it works fine! Change it back and it's just the same - takes an age to finish recognising anything and then it's nowhere near what I said.
Hope that info helps out in diagnosing the problem.

  • Changing language for Voice Control

I don't know what you guys think about it, but i like the new voice control feature very much.
One tiny thing though: i use it in French, so it is perfect when i want to call one of my friend or dial a number, because i'd rather say my french friends' names in french ; but it is horrible when i try to make my iphone play a song.
Indeed, 90% of my music is english/american, and it is impossible to figure out how to say aloud the (english) name of the songs with a french pronunciation.
I know we can switch language in the international settings, but then if i do so the problem is the same for my contacts...
what i would love from apple is the possibility to set a different language setting for each app (ipod / phone / ...). Even better, if i could just add an option on each song to tell if it is english / spanish / etc. (in itunes for example) it'd be just great. That way the voice control know how to read / search the songs correctly.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with that problem. Maybe someone knows that "there's an app for that". I doubt it though.

It can only recognize one language at a time. For how to change it, see p. 46 of the User Guide.

  • Using Voice Control for music in multiple languages?

Hi. I'm looking to get an iPhone 3GS and excited about Voice Control. However, I am worried because some of my music library is actually in foreign languages, with the titles and artist names written in their native languages. If I have Voice Control in English, will I still be able to request artists and songs in their native languages, or is this a current limitation to the feature?

What I can say after I tried: it works bad in most cases
I have my library in Russian and in English. This also applies to my Phonebook.
Option 1. If voice control is set to English (US):
    - "Dial Олег" ([o:'leg]) triggers dialing anybody except Oleg , but adjusting to somthing like ['o:laeg] works, but is says "Calling <silence> mobile"
    - "Play artist Nightwish" works perfectly
    - "Play artist Ария" (['ari:ja:]) actually plays Арда ['arda:], but adjusting pronunciation to something like ['aeri:ja:] plays what was needed...
It never reads Russian words though, so it says like "Playing songs by artist <silence>"
In short, you can use it with English Voice Control, but it is almost useless for phone calls as you don't know who you call until he(she) replies or until you check the screen. At least, you will have to learn US prononuciation of all Russian words, which is often really different from the original
For music it is less awful as even if it plays something wrong, you have less troubles...
Option 2. Voice Control in Russian.
    - dialing and playing Russian spelled phones and music is fine in most cases
    - it does not want to recognise any word that is written in English. So you cannot dial anybody with English spelled name or any English-spelled music (like Nightwish), but it pronunces English words(!) (for example, when you ask, what song it is).
So, this is good if you translate all your phone book to Russian, but it is hard to translate all songs
In any language it makes pronunciation mistakes (example, Rammstein it pronunces as [ramsti:n].

  • Two language recognition on Voice Control?

    Hi,
I'm Portuguese and therefore have a lot of Portuguese music on my iPhone, but also a lot of English (American, UK, etc) music.
I find it very hard to try to say:
"Reproduzir Of A Revolution" in Portuguese
    as well as
    "Play Carlos Paião" in English
    The pronunciation just doesn't match.
Is it possible to configure Voice Control to recognize in two languages at the same time?
    Best Regards

Is it possible to configure Voice Control to recognize in two languages at the same time?
    No.

  • Voice Control in Czech  language

Hi. Do you know any, if will be in any next iOs for iPhone Voice Control support for CZECH language also ?

Nobody here can tell you anything about what future iOS versions will include, and Apple almost never gives out such info in advance.
If you want it, tell Apple via the channel they have set up for that:

  • How to stop voice control

    how to stop voice control?

    Hi Joannewpark,
Press your Home Button to get to the Home Screen.
Press Settings, then press again 2x fast - you will go to the Settings screen
Press on General, then press again 2x fast - you will go to the General screen
Use 2 fingers to indicate scroll up - Voice Over will begin to read the items on the screen, and will eventually get to the Accessibility option. When it says "Accessibility" press on it, then press on it 2x fast
It will go to the Accessibility screen, tap on the Voice Over option one, and then again 2x fast, now tap on the Voice Over option again, and then double tap to turn it off.
    Cheers,

  • Voice Control on Iphone 4

I am loving my Iphone 4 but one thing is really bugging me.
I have had both the first gen iphone and 3GS. I always used the 3gs through my venturi mini bluetooth car kit and it worked great. To let my hubby know I was near his work to pick him up every night I would use the voice control of the 3GS and it always dialled perfectly.
But since getting the iphone 4 it is very hit and miss. It keeps saying the contact is not found and only dials after trying about 4 times. It also doesn't seem as good when you ask it to play "artist". Sometimes I speak and it doesn't do anything at all.
Does anyone else use the voice control/dial of the iphone 4 and find it ok?

More or less. Lots of posts where they have problems with Voice Control in i4. I've had problems and foregoed using the voice control all together. It's missing a great deal of options for instance in the iPod section.
I can't say "Genius Alt Metal Mix" which is my Genius Mix developed. It goes for "Playing Songs by Far" which is one of them. Nor ask to call Dad very easily if I have variations close to the word Dad.

  • IPhone 3GS with iOS4 - voice control does not work any more

Hi - I updated the OS of my iPhone 3GS to iOS4 and everything went well. But ever since I did the update the voice control comes back with strange results when I try to use it. It was working well enough with OS3. Has anybody the same problems and is there a solution?
    Thanks,
    Klaus

I'm experiencing basically the same as teardrop3d. I'm Australian (with voice settings on English (Australian)) and my 3Gs had at least 90% accuracy with both calls and music requests.
On iOS4 I've had a single correct result out of at least 30 attempts at using it.
Requesting "play playlist <name>" will often either start calling a seemingly random person from my phone book (different each time anyway) or sometimes a seemingly random number (I don't know where the number comes from, it's not in my phone book). Sometimes it'll actually offer to play music, usually a specific artist (not a playlist) and occasionally a playlist (but so far never the right one).
Requesting "call <name> <number type>" has worked once correctly, but usually just tries to call a seemingly random number from my phone book (or a number I don't know, not in my phonebook...).
As teardrop3d notes, the voice control screen stays up for about 2-4 seconds after I finish talking. It doesn't seem to be recording during this time, as the waveform stops responding to my voice but the screen sits there (with words moving past in the background still) as if its waiting for me to keep talking.
I've tried talking in different accents to no avail, and didn't get any better results with a different English language setting on the Voice Control (I'm not sure if that's actually listening for different accents or just responding in a different accent?)
This feature which I used to use multiple times a day to avoid having to take my phone out of my pocket while walking/riding is now useless. I continue to test it each day to see if it ever works, or if there are any behaviours that change it (e.g. locked vs unlocked or with music playing/not playing when I press/hold the mic-button, etc) but so far haven't found any workarounds.

  • My Site Settings: Language Options not applied

On a SharePoint 2013 Server I want that the user be able to select is own My Site Language (as SP2010).
So, goingo to: Services Applications > User Profile Service > Setup My Sites:
And checking in the The Language Options checkbox (Allow user to choose the language of their personal site)
The above option doesn't result in any language selection prompt for the user on the My Site creation.
    Ideas?

    Hi falloutpt,
Based on the following article, user's My Site will be created with default, primary language of the SharePoint Server 2013 installation on the server by default, then user can change his my site to display other language installed, it should be different
    from the SharePoint 2010.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262500.aspx#mui
"When enabled, users can use the multilingual user interface feature
for their My Sites. This feature is used to display the site's user interface in a secondary language that the user prefers instead of the default, primary language that was selected when the site was created.
By default, when a new site is created, it is created in the default, primary language of the SharePoint Server 2013 installation on the server. A farm administrator must install language packs on the server before sites can be created in languages
other than the default, primary language.
For My Sites, the multilingual user interface feature is controlled by the Language Options setting when you configure My Site settings. The languages that are available to users correspond to the language packs installed in the server
farm. For more information about language packs, see Install or uninstall language packs for SharePoint 2013."
Change and display language should also have changed in SharePoint 2013, user could display the My Site as other languages from IE language settings, which have being installed on SharePoint server.

  • Is there any way to stop "Voice Control"?

    Hiya
I am hoping one of you will be able to help me with this......
Tonight my phone has started to beep and then on the screen it shows "Voice Control" with a list of question ideas to ask voice control.
I have read that "Voice Control" cant be disabled but have seen a couple of ideas on how to get around it but for some reason they arent working on my phone and it keeps interupting my messages, etc when Im half way through using my phone.
I have tried to turn on Siri hoping that it would stop Voice Control coming up on my phone but that didnt work.
I have tried activating "Switch Control" because apparently they both cant run at the same time....didnt work for me.
I have tried Assistive Touch and nope that hasnt worked either.
I have even tried to reset my phone then back it up from the last time i had on,my computer. Didnt work.
Only thing I have read that I havent tried is the reset my phone and start from the begining with it.
I have looked around and read a lot of forums but I was hoping someone might have had the same problem as me and might be able to tell me if it can be fixed or what happened with theirs?
I have no idea why this is happening or why its happened today. I havent dropped it or anything like that and the phone is just over a year old so its not under warranty unfortunately.
Voice control is different then the Voice Over option too
I think my home button may be sticking and the "three clicks on the home button" is to go to my voice control.
Thanks for your help! Appreciate it
    Thanks!

Voice control can to be disabled. Sounds to me like you have a broken/defective home button. Make an appointment at the genius bar and have it looked at.

  • Is it possible to use *only* voice control - no keyboard or mouse at all?

Short story, hope you can bear with me.
I have a client who was using Windows for years. He has some disability that means he really can't use a mouse or keyboard. He has been using Dragon Naturall Speaking for about 5-7 years *on Windows*. He also has a Wacom tablet, but uses it sparingly.
About 6 months ago, he was having problems and was fed up with the problems he was having on his Windows machine. He called me and said "That's it. I'm going to Mac." He bought an iMac the next day, about two weeks before Lion was released. He had also purchased Dragon Dictate for Mac.
I set it all up, installed it and he was ready to start training Dragon.
A few months later, he calls and says, "I need to install Windows on my Mac because the Dragon Dictate for Mac is useless. I've spoken to them and they admit that there are several things you just can't do. Like moving the mouse." I think he means things like dragging an item into another folder, or drawing a box around several items on the desktop in order to trash them or copy them or drag them into an email as an attachment, etc. I keep asking him to be more specific, but all I can really get is that It. Can't. Be. Done. On. A. Mac.
And that, of course, really makes my skin crawl. I mean, come on, it's a Mac. They have *great* features for Accessibility. Surely, this must be a solved problem.
But, I have looked. I looked at the additions in Lion. I looked at the literature for Dragon. I have tried to do it myself on my computer. So far, I'm stumped.
I understand that there might be a learning curve, such as learning to say *where* you want something to be dragged to, instead of actually dragging it there visually. "Move selected document to Documents" and so on. But, I'm still hard pressed to find a way to do *every*thing (or a 99+%) using only voice control.
Does *any*one have any ideas, suggestions, thoughts, solutions?
His solution? He bought a used Windows computer today. I've copied (again) all his data from his iMac back to the Windows PC and installed Dragon Naturally Speaking, etc.
Surely, this can't be the only solution. There *must* be a way to do this on the Mac. Right?
    Thanks.

    Hi again,
I checked the Bios of my neighbors A100, so he has no option for Wake-on-Keyboard, too. I think its not implemented in that bios.
If this helps you: try the latest bios for that machine, maybe the implemented that option in a newer version.

  • How could they not let top-end Bluetooth Headsets activate Voice Control

I love Voice Control. It was an important feature missing from the 3G. Also was a video function. They addressed both with the 3GS. But then what do they do, forget to let Voice Control be accessed by a Bluetooth Headset.
Don't get my wrong, probably not all Bluetooth Headsets can support picking up a Voice Control function from a random cell phone. But I have a $140 Headseat, the Motorola Pure H15. This is the Nissan GTR of Bluetooth Headsets. Trust me, if there's a function that a headset can possess, this one has it and more.
So after pairing with the 3GS, why can't it gain access to the Voice Control? Hold the H15 button and the 3GS redials the last number dialed, which is a universal language between headset and cell phone. So I know that works, but push the button and the H15 attempts to connect and shows this by expressing several different tones: an access tone, then a deactivated tone. It's a weird combination of tones when pressing the button, it's trying but not getting through.
I hope Apple can fix this by way of software and avoid a hardware revision. Please please! I hope it's a quick fix and that Apple has this missing function on their priority list of future updates.

fear not... the people out there testing 3.1 mention that voice control works via Bluetooth on 3.1 so just give it a couple months and the feature will be there
