Voice Control over Bluetooth: 3GS (FW 3.1) and Plantronics Discovery 975

Anyone get this combination to work? If so, how? If not, is there an approved list of headsets that do work? Even though I think it's ridiculous that Apple can't get this to work like every other smartphone on the planet, I'll schlep back to Best Buy, return my 975 and pick one up that works, but I'd like to know what ones those are.
Incidentally, the Bluetooth Version on the Discovery 975 is "2.1 + EDR (Enhanced Data Rate) + eSCO + Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) for pairing earpiece without entering PIN code/Passkey"; and the Bluetooth Profiles supported are "Headset Profile (HSP) for talking on the phone" and "Hands-free Profile (HFP) for talking on the phone and operating the phone".
Thanks in advance!

P.S. Solved it. Went into BT settings on the iPhone, "Forgot Device", turned off BT; reset iPhone; re-paired; works great. Rather than taking down my post, I'm leaving it here in case these instructions prove useful for anyone else.

  • Intermittent Voice Control Over Bluetooth

I'm finding that voice control over Bluetooth using my Plantronics 510 headset regularly stops working, while other Bluetooth functions remain active.
Normally, holding the button on the headset down will activate Voice Control. I can hear the "listening" tone, and the phone responds to my command (e.g. "Call Telecon One Work").
On several occasions, I've found that holding the button fails to activate Voice Command, but other BT functions controlled by the headset button still work - a double press, for example, still redials the last number. After rebooting the phone, voice command is once again available by pushing the headset button.
OT - At some point, it would be nice if iPhone OS 3.1 was added to the list of OS choices in the pulldown menu for discussion posts.

I'm having the same problem. For me, the problem only starts after I plug in the iPhone to charge (while connected to the bluetooth).
Is that the same for you?

  • Voice control over bluetooth?

Voice control over bluetooth? even with the apple headset?

Activated my new 3G S yesterday and I just tried it with my Apple bluetooth headset today. Sadly, it's a no go. That is, the headset works just as before (with the nice on-screen battery charge indicator), but pushing the button does absolutely nothing except answer incoming calls.
I agree, Apple missed the boat on this one. Been waiting for voice dialing since the original iPhone (which the new 3G S replaces Knowing Apple's history, they will likely release a new bluetooth headset that will have a special button to activate Voice Over, but not update firmware for old bluetooth headsets or 3rd party headsets to work...

  • Voice Control dialling on 3GS via Bluetooth in UK English language

When I first got my iphone 3GS in Feb 2010 I was really delighted with the voice-control dialling via Bluetooth.  I speak UK English and the language is set to "English (United Kingdom)".  I have about 1200 contacts in the iphone's database.  The OS was OS3.  It worked beautifully.
Since upgrading the OS to OS4 in mid-2010 the system has never worked properly.  There are some archived discussions on this problem.  It became clear that the early versions of OS4 only worked if you set the voice-control language to US English and spoke with a north-american accent.  In subsequent versions of OS4 it seemed that things had improved, and I even posted a comment thanking Apple for fixing it!   Sorry about that - I was wrong...
All that has happened is that Apple have slightly improved matters, in that searching the contacts list under voice control now sometimes works - but it is still very poor under Bluetooth.  It usually gets the search wrong - and the quality of the Bluetooth communication when using Voice Control is very poor.  You can't hear the search responses clearly.  I don't think that there is anything wrong with my Bluetooth connection, per se, as phone conversations over Bluetooth are just fine.  The problem is only with voice-control via Bluetooth.  I am currently on OS 4.3.3 (8J2).
Does anyone else find that Voice-control dialling via Bluetooth is unreliable, using a 3GS on OS4, speaking in a language other than US English?
Maybe someone has a way of making it work properly?

in the same boat with a 2006 bmw. the button on the steering wheel dials the last number that was dialed from the cars system, it doesn't behave like default "action" button that is on bluetooth headsets -- that is the issue.
Is there some way to 1) remap the button in the car (doubtful) or 2) have the car dial a "phone number" that tells the phone to respond with the voice command through the bluetooth system (maybe, but also doubtul)

  • IPod voice controls broken on 3GS with iOS5

After upgrading to iOS 5, the music voice controls on my 3GS stopped functioning completely, i.e. voice commands such as "play playlist...", "play songs by...", "play album...". All of this worked well before and now only results in a "No match found". Dialing voice controls work just as well as before the upgrade.
Does anyone else have that problem? It seems to me as if the voice control simply does not realize that the music is there... Is there some way to "re-synch" the music library on the iPhone with the voice control, or something similar?

A friend on 4G couldn't activate voice recognition after the IOS5 upgrade (although my phone worked fine) - it kept saying "no match found". After playing around with the settings, we tried reversing the display order of the contacts (last, first / first, last), and voila - voice recognition worked again!
The great I.T. fix-all works wonders: "Have you tried turning it off and on again".  I recommend giving the contact list swap a try (by the way, we then put it back to it's original settings and it worked fine) to see if it resets your voice control.

I guess this is apple's fault.

    Turn off Voice Control.
Otherwise, basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).

  • Voice connectivity over bluetooth lost for nokia x...

I had purchased nokia x6 around 3 months ago. Till yesterday, I was able to pair the X6 device with my bluetooth headset and also my car bluetooth device and everything was working fine.
Suddenly now, the device is able to pair with headset or car kit but absolute no voice is being heard through both channels. Phone without the bluetooth works absoolutely fine.
I am not able to listen to any music, voice, phone call or any sound at all once the phone is paired with any bluetooth device(bluetooth headset or car kit).
What can be the possible reason and solution? Please suggest urgently

  • Can you use a bluetooth headset with iPad 2? I.e. Plantronics Discovery 975.

I want to use Bria (softphone) as my "phone" on the iPad 2 and be able to answer calls from the bluetooth deivce. Ideally, I would want Bria to run in the background, my ipad on my desk or backpack and be able to answer calls.  Anyone have experience with this?

No. You can use a wireless keyboard. A mouse would be pointless because there is no cursor.

  • Voice Control on Iphone 4

I am loving my Iphone 4 but one thing is really bugging me.
I have had both the first gen iphone and 3GS. I always used the 3gs through my venturi mini bluetooth car kit and it worked great. To let my hubby know I was near his work to pick him up every night I would use the voice control of the 3GS and it always dialled perfectly.
But since getting the iphone 4 it is very hit and miss. It keeps saying the contact is not found and only dials after trying about 4 times. It also doesn't seem as good when you ask it to play "artist". Sometimes I speak and it doesn't do anything at all.
Does anyone else use the voice control/dial of the iphone 4 and find it ok?

More or less. Lots of posts where they have problems with Voice Control in i4. I've had problems and foregoed using the voice control all together. It's missing a great deal of options for instance in the iPod section.
I can't say "Genius Alt Metal Mix" which is my Genius Mix developed. It goes for "Playing Songs by Far" which is one of them. Nor ask to call Dad very easily if I have variations close to the word Dad.

  • Does the Sennheiser MM50 work with Voice Control?

I'm not double posting -- over at "using 3Gs" I asked if anyone had any idea what other earphones I could use with voice control, but after researching these Sennheiser MM50 iP phones look like just the ticket... except I'm not sure they work with the voice control itself.
They have a mic and a pause/answer button -- has anyone tried theirs to see if it will do the same job on voice control as the Apple earbuds do? (Which, IMHO, is superb). I do hate to give up volume control, but I can live without it for better overall sound (too bad the VC doesn't allow you to just say "louder" or "softer" <g>.

I would assume all earphones work that have a mic. No reason why they shouldn't

  • Voice control under 10.2.1.2102

I just received the newest update and while the previous voice control issues (full voice control responses inaudible) are now gone, I'm seeing a couple new issues.
When using Full Voice Control, if I issue a command (ie. "Send bbm to bob smith"), there is often a very long delay from when i stop talking to when the confirmation sound is heard, sometimes up to 10 seconds.  This is not the delay to get the command back, rather the delay before the command is actually sent to the voice control server once it detects i have stopped talking.  Observed with 2 bluetooth headsets, so it is not headset related.
A second issue has to do with voice acurracy.  It definitely is not as accurate as it used to be.  Often, I need to repeat simple terms like "yes" or "message" over and over again.  This occurs over bluetooth and over the speaker, with US English and UK English.  I don't really have an accent.
Has anyone else noticed similar issues?  Voice control is essential for me while driving, and it remains one of the weakest features in an otherwise stellar device.

Forgive the dumb question here...because at first I didn't think mine was fixed either.
I honestly don't remember...when you first hit the Voice Control microphone app icon...I don't get  a voice as it's waiting for an input from me.  Once I say something like "Send text"  it then responds via voice feedback correctly.  I don't remember if this is how it worked before.
The reason I mention this is that when I first tried it after reboot...I also thought it wasn't fixed.

  • Voice Control randomly turns on

I have a problem that is driving me crazy. I purchased a 32gb iPhone 3GS about 3 months ago and I have had an issue with the voice control since the day I brought it home. I have an auxiliary audio jack in my car so I always connect my iPhone to my car stereo to play music. For some reason whenever my iPhone is connected in this way the voice control constantly comes on.
I understand that holding down the home button on the face of the phone is what is "supposed" to bring up the voice control option but that is not the case in this instance. Rather I will be listening to music, or simply pick the phone up while connected so I can change the song (but before I have actually touched any part of the phone) and the voice control will come on - stopping the song and forcing me to hit "cancel" in order to get back to the music. This is incredibly frustrating because it's happening while I drive and what makes it worse is the fact that since the phone is on voice control, and connected to my stereo, whenever I move it the sharp crackling from sound going through the microphone is broadcast through my car's speakers.
I have read through a few threads and there doesn't seem to be any way to deactivate voice control - but I could be wrong. Does anyone have any idea how to permanently shut off voice control? Has anyone else had this same problem? I can't figure out why this would be happening or what I can do to prevent it. Thanks for any help you can give me.

I'm having the same problem except it happens when I'm trying to use voice dialling. I speak into my bluetooth headset to dial a number and it starts up my music or other things. I did find something on youtube on how you can disable voice control altogether by downloading some program but haven't tried it because I don't know if it will disable all voice control including voice dialling or just voice control for the rest of the phone. Here's a link to what I found on youtube...... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wE46y1bUpfQ
If anyone tries this could you please post to let me know if it disables voice dialling. Thanks.

  • 755p Voice Dial with BlueTooth

I've searched all over the place for help with my quest to make my Treo 755p "Smart" phone have bluetooth voice dial capabilities.  What seems to be out-of-the-box functionality for many normal phones (no "smart" in their name) is apparently difficult to achieve with the Treo 755p, and apparently with all Treos from what I've seen so far.  Here's the conclusion that I'm coming to, but I just can't believe it, so I'm posting this here in the hopes the experts (that's you guys) will either correct my misunderstanding, or (hopefully not) confirm that I'm on the right track.
    APPARENTLY:
Voice dial capability is not part of the Treo 755p; one has to install a 3rd party program or service to gain this functionality.  There are a few good options out there, but they do cost additional money.
Voice dial programs apparently work pretty good with the wired headsets that come with the Treo package.  Apparently (although I have not tested it yet) pressing the button on the side of the treo or one the wired headset can be configured to activate the voice dial software, and the user can speak into the wired headset microphone to dial by voice.
Extra digit dialing is apparently not supported by most (if any) of the software I've seen that works on the Palm platform.  (This is hard to tell exactly, because some software works only for the windows platform, which I don't have.)
Bluetooth headsets configured in hands-free mode will launch the voice-dial software, but I've found that the treo does not connect the voice dial software to the bluetooth headset, so instructions are not heard through the headset and the headset microphone is ignored for voice dialing.  Others have apparently had the same issue, from what I've seen posted in this forum and on other fora as well.
The only method I've heard of anyone successfully using a bluetooth headset for voice dialing with a Treo is to bypass the Treo Bluetooth Handsfree mode, purchase an extra bluetooth adapter meant to add bluetooth capabilities to non-bluetooth phones, and then pair the headset with that adapter.  This adapter typically costs $10-20, but is sort of big and must clip to your phone or to your belt.  This adapter plugs itself into the treo's headset jack and simulates a wired headset.  Apparently this mode works well, for yet more cost and additional bulk with makes it difficult to fit the phone into standard casings and/or take the phone out to work with the PDS without unplugging it.
One such adapter is the Cardo "Node" (http://www.cardowireless.com/node/434), but you can't buy it from their website anymore so I'm looking for other options.
I've heard that Jabra also has one, but I'm not sure of the model number, price, or form-factor.
Am I on track with this?  This just doesn't sound right to me.  I've seen postings that users have had this issue from the earliest Treo models, so I would have thought that Palm would have addressed it by now.  I've always thought of Palm as a reputable and responsive company, so I'm hoping I've missed the "silver bullet" solution.  Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Many thanks.

    I hope Palm is listening.
It was good to see others as frustrated as I am about the Treo’s glaring deficiency – kind of a support group.  I kept thinking I must be wrong because I traded up from a dumb phone and couldn’t believe my new palm is incapable of Bluetooth voice dialing.
The voice dialing companies all say it’s a problem with the Treos. I have asked the people at Palm and, though they are very nice, they haven't been able to help.  The people I spoke with didn’t seem to understand what I wanted and then spent a great deal of time trying to find the answer.  In the end, they confirmed:   you can get Bluetooth with a Treo, and you can get voice dialing with a Treo, but you can't get voice dialing over Bluetooth.  They didn't know if a solution was in the works.
I am really puzzled about this problem.  How hard can this be?  As Bob Smiley said, you can get a Bluetooth adapter to simulate a wired headset, and any one of us could superglue it to the Treo, but why?
It seems to me that this is such a basic function that, especially with all the upgrades, they should be able to fix it easily.  My impression is that no one at Palm is working on this and that no one is scheduled to work on this, but I hope I’m wrong.

  • Unexpected voice control and headphone use

We have two iPhone 3 G's in our household that we have used without incident up until this last month. With one phone, my husband used a new set of ear phones (not Apple) and the voice control would come on unexpectedly, over and over to the point that he couldn't listen to music.  The same thing started happening with my phone this last week while listening to music with the Apple ear phones. While trying to cancel the voice control over and over, I noticed that the music files sounded corrupt.  Any suggestions?

I can use my Jawbone 2 to activate voice control just fine. As if it were any other phone that has had this technology for years.
As far as using "Activate Voice Control and request(ing) whatever", the 3rd contact on my Favorites list can get me hookers and crack cocaine, so does that qualify?
Summary: Click on button at the top of my Jawbone -> Activates Voice Control -> Say "Dial. Lou. Mobile" -> Wait a few seconds. Say "Lou. Me. The usual." -> press center button on Jawbone to disconnect. -> go back to watching Sports Center.
