Voice dialing and talking caller ID

I bought the nokia n9 and while I am very happy of how it looks and feels and greatly disappointed for the lack of many necessary apps and features. The upmost important of which are the voice dialing and talking caller id.
Will we ever see these features available to nokia n9? Maybe a better question would be: will nokia ever going to update this device to pack missing features or not?

not at the moment.
not too sure about what is coming in pr1.3 though...couldnt say if it will include voice operation...not that it is necessary.
if nokia does indeed kill using the meego/harmattan os, the community will surely keep it alive somehow for a while.

    Does anyone know how I get voice dialing to allow me to include the area code when I ask it to call a phone number?  It currently only allows me to specify 7 digits instead of 10.  I have set up my area code via the Call Log options and the number of digits for National numbers is set to 10.

    Thanks for your input.  I actually do exactly the same thing as you described.  However, my question was more for those instances when you don't currently have an entry in your Blackberry for the number you want to call using voice dialing and have to specify the number by saying the digits that comprise the desired phone number.

    OP, how much history are you talking about keeping? Also, there is no method to archive this in any fashion to be looked at or searched at a later date.

    I'm implementing a solution, where few sites will be dialing and accepting calls.
    For example, A will dial tp B when their primary is down, but when the B primary is down, it will dial to A, and vice-versa.
    Trying to make this work using backuo interface, but in backup interface cannot accept calls.

    In this scenario you can have 2 dialer interfaces on both the sides binded to ur physical BRI interface in which you can use one dialer interface for dial out and one for dial in.
    You need to take care of the dialer string and other authetication details on both the dialers.
    Also the floating static routes thru both the dialer interfaces for your access as well as for the remote locations access.
    do find the link which deals the same but with PRI its similar to the bri only the physical interface config changes.

  • Voice Dialing and navigating in the following drop...

    My new 6600 fold drives me mad! How can I navigate through the diiferent numbers/contacts when I use voice dialing via headset? The idea is: press the button on my headset, then talk a contacts name e.g. "Peter" (with or without thumbs in the nose). The phone recognizes my speech as "Peter" (with luck) and shows:
    1. a list with contacts who has "Peter" as name/first name (depending on what list format i use - why can the pone not shows both like in my "old" Nokia 9300?) and THEN?
    or
    2. a single contact and dial his number. But WHAT if this contact has more numbers?
    Solution: Take the phone out of the pocket, unfold it and navigate with the keys through the contacts/numbers? THAT I did not have in mind when I want to call somebody via headset. Is there an undocumented set of voice commands to navigate throug the menu? The manual is not really helpful for that.
    As workaround you can for case 1 say the complete name e.g. "Peter Tschaikowski" and talk a little bit more in a robotic voice for a better understanding (like i read in other posts here).. OK, this might work.
    In case number 2 I start to select one number as "standard" number who will select when the name is clear. But that is nit really helpfull if you want to talk to your mum/boss/girlfriend with a different number when driving a car. in my country it is not allowed to use the phone without headset in the car. For me it will be a expensive pleasure to use my 6600 fold while driving.....

    I'm asking, in all seriousness, why do you think your mother needs an iPhone? Honestly, if your mother is, as you described her, a technophobe, I would recommend against getting an iPhone or any other smartphone. I've spent a fair bit of time teaching older folks to use smartphones. If they are interested in learning, it's fine. If they have the phone because their kids or grandkids thought it was a good idea but they are afraid of the phone or not interested in its features, it doesn't go well at all.
    Many basic phones have voice dialing. Obviously, it doesn't do all the things Siri does but it may be much less intimidating for your mom. Also, basic phones have hardware keys. Even someone with limited vision can learn the keyboard on such a phone. From the sound of your first post, all she will be doing is making phone calls.

  • Curve 8330 Voice dialing and sound problems, Please help!

    I got this black berry curve 8330 from a friend on the weekend to replace my broken Pearl. He said it worked fine but it sometimes had a voice dialing problem. After wiping all the personal data and activating the phone the voice dialing went nuts. Every 6 to 9 sec the voice dialing would activate with no sound. meaning you don't hear the lady voice say, "say a command". After reading many forums posts I download memmax and removed all VAD files. But I will still left with no sound. I went and did a test on the hardware and the speaker and microphone both worked fine. Puzzled I tried playing a ringtone, , it plays maybe the first second of the file and then the sounds goes away but I am able to get it back by press the Speaker/$ key. I then tried making a phone call and the phone was working just fine. About an hour later I tired calling someone and the issue had raisin again. This time I was unable to get the sound back. (I tried resetting many times with no success.) I could still play media files, but was unable to get sound making or receiving calls (this includes the other party not being able to hear me as well.) I tired changing profiles with no success. I then did some more reading and tried updating the OS. Once that was done and voice dialing had been reinstalled and started acting up again. SO I removed it and basically everything happened all over again. So right now I have a phone that I can’t make calls on but I can still text and use the internet. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Should I try wiping the OS and reinstall or is this phone toast?

    The msi nforce package 2.29 fixes the NVMCP.SYS error and turns it into a very rare system freeze. 8o

  • Screen switches off when I dial and hit call button

    When I select a contact from my list n hit call button or dial a number and hit call button the screen switches off even though the call is going on still. For example if I want to give a missed call it is not possible as the screen is going blank. Is there any setting for it?

    I agree with @Quester. If you don't have a case or screen protector on the handset you could try clearing the cache or data for the Phone app by going into Settings > Apps > All > scroll down to Phone > tap Clear cache/data. (Try clearing cache first and if it doesn't work go back and tap clear data and test again). If this doesn't help then follow @Uliwoolys suggestion, here are additional steps on running the repair:
    back up using PC Companion
    1. Go to Support to install PC Companion on a Windows computer.
    2. When installed, start PC Companion on the computer.
    3. Connect your phone to the computer using a USB cable.
    4. Click Start under Backup & Restore.
    5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
    (Exactly what contents will be backed up may differ depending on phone model.
    You can view detailed information about this as you follow the steps in the Backup & Restore wizard).
    back up using Bridge for Mac
    1. Launch Bridge For MAC.
    2. Select "Back up your Xperia device".
    3. Select the data you wish to back up from your device (the windows can be expanded for more detail as below; then select "Next".
    4. The backup will now be in process, do not disconnect the phone while this runs.
    Running the software repair on PC Companion:
    1. Install and open PC Companion then select Support Zone.
    2. Phone Software Update.
    3. Start.
    4. Repair Phone
    5. Continue
    6. Accept data removal
    7. Next
    8. Wait for prepare
    9. Select Phone
    10. Follow the connection steps
    Running the software repair on Bridge for Mac:
    1. Launch Bridge for MAC without the handset connected.
    2. On the Main Window select "Xperia > Repair Xperia Device".
    3. Ensure the phone is charged and select "Ok" in the following window.
    4. Select Continue on the following page.
    5. Wait until the initialising step is finished the continue as below.
    6 . Select your model of phone from the list that appears
    7. Follow the connection steps that appear, ensuring that you are holding the relevant button down before during and after the connection phase until the update/repair begins.
    If this still doesn't resolve the issue then I would reccommend contacting your local Sony Xperia Customer Care team asap.

  • IPhone 4S Siri Will No Longer Voice Dial Contacts - Always Call Failed

    I am not exactly sure when this started (5.0.1?), but when I ask Siri to dial someone in my contacts, Siri recognizes the request, proceeds to Dial the number and no matter which contact I try, I get an immediate "CALL FAILED" and then the iPhone immediately locks. I have restored the iPhone as new, Reset Network Settings, etc. to no avail. If I turn Siri off from Settings, the phone will revert to the previous Voice Control that was present in previous iPhones and Voice Calls are successful. Only when trying to use Siri do all voice initiated calls fail. And it is 100% consistent in the failure. This does not appear to be a Siri network issue, as all Siri other Siri requests work and are speedy. Co-workers with the 4S are also experiencing the same issue, so it does not appear to be specific to just my iPhone. Can anyone else confirm? Thanks.

    OK, so i have tracked it down to a single AT&T Cell Tower location in my instance, but it also just so happens to be at my office, which means I am affected by it all day. What is happening is that at this particular location, the AT&T tower is misconfigured or experiencing some type of technical issue, resulting in the inability of the cell tower to handle simultaneous voice and data. Siri uses data to match the contacts, names etc and hands off to the Phone dialer, which immediately experiences a call failure as a result of the 3G Data still being in use by Siri. You can verify simultaneous voice and data connectivity by placing a voice call and then attempting to use 3G data (you must not be using WiFi to determine if this is a problem with the Cell network). While in a voice call, launch the Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test app. You will clearly see that 3G data services have all but ceased if this is your problem. End the Voice Call and run the Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test again and 3G data will work fine.
    I have reported the problem via AT&T's Mark the Spot App numerous times and had my colleagues do the same and called AT&T Wireless customer service to no avail. They simply refuse to acknowledge the issue is on their end. I personally know at least 5 other iPhone 4S users in my office who are experiencing the same issue and the results can be consistently recreated on all of their devices. And again, once they leave the office in the afternoon, all of their services return to normal and they can again make and place Voice initiated phone calls without the dreaded Call Failed.     Greetings to all, I am new in the forum. Nevertheless pleasingly I am made an impression by the level of information that handles, always of first hand.  Let me comment my problem, handling a device BB 8330. All the functions and programs were executed without any problem until yesterday. My device ran on old platform 4,3, yesterday I updated it directly of the official page of BB to 4.5. By all means as many of we do it. I began to prove all my programs and applications on the new platform, and noticed a detail, the dialing activated by voice, is executed well and in Spanish (Mexico), it obeys to the commands and it looks for the contacts suitably, nevertheless at the moment for marking, when I choose a contact with more of one telephone number (work, moving body, etc.) the voice indicates the message to me “are no stored entrances”. If this same it attempt with a contact that only has a telephone number, communicates to me without problems.  Somebody could orient to me in the correction of this defect?

    Hello, Please help me to resolve these problems.
    Can't dial - as soon as i enter into phone keypad and click any number the phone dial menu jumps back to Main Iphone menu. So I can't dial! it happens as soon as I click any number. The only way to dial is to add someone into contact and dial through Contacts. That's so far the only way to call someone.
    Can't recieve calls - If someone calls me then iphone does not respond at all.
    I can only see on the screen (small ring with trasparent sticks loading) I know that the iphone should ring, but instead it goes into freezing mode meanwhile someone calls. Also, buttons don't work at this time.
    One more this, I have went to menu to play some ringtones and I could not hear any of them. The only way I was be able to hear them all is when I have connected the headphones.
    Bought fully unlocked iphone in Germany.
    SIM card works fine and iphone is activated.
    Iphone 1.1.2.
    I have tried to restore the iphone through itunes but it doesn't solve the problem. Tried several times!

    Thats your problem. Currently, the country code for Estonia is not hardcoded in a specific file - like I mentioned in my previous post. Because of this the phone application as well as the SMS application will not function properly.
    There is currently no fix for this that is santioned by Apple. You can call Apple Care and report the problem to be sure they are aware of it but many before you have already done so.
    Right now you have two choices - You can:
    1) Wait for Apple to release a fix and have your phone with limited functionality. There is no way of knowing if/when this might happen.
    2) Search Google for an unauthorized solution. Doing so will void your licence agreement and prevent you from easily updating your phone in the future as well as void any service or tech support from Apple for future issues.
    The choice is up to you.

  • Random dial and receive call from one specific number

    What happens is on a random basis, my iPhone 4 dials a computer shop (I think) and yet they seem to be calling me. I have restored the iOS and have the same problem.

    Contact your carrier... and have her contact hers. Assuming they are SMS/MMS messages, that is. SMS and MMS are carrier features. Note that MMS messaging requires a cellular data connection.

  • 4.3 Update - Car Stereo Issue, voice dialing not working with Bluetooth

    I've seen some similar issues reported, but they were for specific cars/stereos, and the symptoms were different, so I'm posting about mine:
    Phone: Samsung Galaxy SIII, Android 4.3.
    Car Stereo: Pioneer AVH-X2500BT
    This is a stereo I bought and installed myself. All of its features worked fine, and I was enjoying making calls using voice dialing via the stereo. Then, I installed the 4.3 update to the Galaxy SIII. Ever since (literally, I made a call that day before installing it, and tried shortly after), I cannot use the voice dialing feature. Any attempt to use voice dialing or voice commands via the car stereo will fail. Here's what happens:
    I do a long press on the car stereo's Home button to initiate voice dialing. On my phone, S-Voice starts up, and a Toast (little message) pops up briefly that says "Check in-car audio". When I talk, the little animation on the microphone button in S-Voice does not happen, meaning it's not hearing anything. The car stereo shortly cancels out of voice dialing mode, as though it timed out, or something.
    I've tried switching to Google voice, but the same thing happens. I've tried all kinds of configuration on both devices. I've unpaired and re-paired. Nothing.
    Also, turn-by turn directions from Google Maps appears to not work. The app thinks it's giving them, and when I turn the car off, the voice suddenly works from the phone, but it just won't come out the stereo.
    All other features work fine, including Pandora, and streaming Bluetooth audio. I can even make phone calls, by accessing the contacts and recent call list from the car stereo. The calls work and come through the stereo fine. Literally voice dialing and Google Maps are all that doesn't work.
    Does anyone know how to fix this?

        There could be any number of factors that may be affecting this, byounie. It may be that the firmware on your car stereo headunit may need to be updated. My direct recommendation to check first would be to access your bluetooth submenu, and next to paired info for the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT, you should see a little cog wheel/settings icon. Please select this, and start unselecting everything available there. Work your way up, and enable and test these different settings one by one, to see if there is a conflict between Google Maps and Voice dialing services. Let us know what happens, byounie.
