Voice Disappearing Act!

I have a weird one. I recently completed a pile of short videos with Premiere Pro CS3 on my PC at work for a campaign I am working on. I exported them via the media export to quicktime, uploaded the files to our youtube account, and then linked to them off of our website. Everything was honky-dory and working fine...or so I thought.
I recieved an email from a coworker today saying that a couple of the videos had no voices- they only had music when she watched them. After trying out playing the movies on many different computers, I found that on some computers there are no voices (actually extremely low volumed voices...far too low to hear over the music), while on other computers it sounds just fine. This seams strange as the original file was exported as a stereo track.
Interestingly, I finished another video today but this time exported it to encore and burned it to dvd. I took the dvd home to view it on my dvd player and it worked just fine. I then put the dvd in my macbook...and I unexpectantly ran into the same problem. There were no voices when listening on the built in speakers. Even stranger though, the voices came through just fine when I plugged my headphones into my macbook and viewed it that way.
The only thing really that seems to be in common so far with the computers that did not play the vocals is that they all had fairly cheap, dinky little speakers. Even when I ripped the dvd that I took home, converted the file, and put on my iphone...it was the same thing. No vocals when listening through the cheap, built in iphone speakers, yet it worked just fine through the headphones

I just tested it...and it works just fine through my headphones, but I cannot hear the voices when played through the built-in macbook speakers.

Thank you very much Jim. That was it.
The original video recording was in stereo...but only recorded to one channel. This resulted in the voices to be panned left. So I duplicated the track and switched the channels, then exported the audio to get a stereo track with BOTH channels utilized. This resulted in the voices being panned center, which I thought fixed my issue. Unfortunately this caused a new issue and resulted in the audio being out of phase! (I should have known better!!!)
To correct this I exported the track (just the voices) to a new wav file. Then, when the file was still in the bin, I went to: Clip < Audio Options < Breakout to Mono. This gave me both the right & left channel as separate MONO tracks. I then placed the mono track into the timeline, and removed my out-of-phase stereo track. From the beginning I should have changed the track to MONO rather than my original solution. Oh well...at least I learned something!
I do not know if this was the best way to fix the issue, but it seemed to work for me so I thought I'd share in case anybody else runs into this issue.

Ipod shuffle voice over acting funny

Hi,
I bought the shuffle about 3 months ago. The past 2 weeks or so the voice over's been acting funny. Every time I click the voice over button the playback voice only says 'Playlist 1, Playlist 2' and so on for all my playlists. The song voiceover doesn't work either. There's just silence where its supposed to say the track and artist name. I tried resetting the settings back to factory default from itunes but no go. Whats wrong with it?

Apple has determined that the Apple Headphones with Remote included with the iPod shuffle (3rd gen) may fail under certain conditions. If your Shuffle has a certain serial number you can change your Headphones following this procedure:

Month View Disappearing Act

Just recently, when I select month view in the Tiger iCal, the window disappears. I can add new events, but cannot see them unless I'm within the day or week view. Also, when I immediately click day or week, it doesn't fit the frame properly. Does anyone know why this glitch is happening?

Disappearing Act!

Help! I don't know what happened between 3 days ago and today, but all of my music and library has disappeared from my iTunes. I also have Limewire and I did download the new version of it this afternoon. I also don't have my Limewire downloads either.
I do have a external hardrive but I don't know how to retore just those files.
What do I do?

The same thing happened to me and I have wau too much money for my purchases and if I can't retrive it then I at least need to be refunded for all the money that I spent or something...
I haven't accessed my account for two weeks and then all of a sudden I access it to found out that everything is gone!!!!
I had movies and music....
What do I need to do?

Voice control acting up

Has any progress been made regarding Voice Control randomly coming on and over riding all other iphone applications? It comes on and prevents me using my ipod on the 3GS

No problems with home button that I noticed. However it may have got damp this morning as we've just had rain for the first time in months and I read that dampness may cause problems. I'll test it later. If I do a reset, does that take all the ipod content (e.g. audiobooks manually put on the phone from CD's) off the phone? Nervous about doing a reset as I have about 12 unabridged novels on it!!

Apple TV Disappearing Act from iTunes

Thought I would post this here for others in case it is helpful:
My Apple TV 40 GB has been randomly disappearing from the iTunes device list ever since I purchased a New Airport Extreme Dual-Band N Router. I have been having to check and un-check the "Look for Apple TV's" option in the iTunes Preference panes so that iTunes could see the Apple TV and so that the Apple TV could see iTunes after it disappears. All software on computers (Mac OS, iTunes) and firmware on the router and are up to date as of June 2009. I was previously using the old UFO Airport Extreme G router without problems.
While monitoring computer and iPod connection speeds using the Airport Admin Utility>Manual>Advanced>Logs and Statistics>Wireless Clients tab, I just happened to see the Apple TV connected at an abysmal 26 Mbps rate, with a connection type of a/b/g/n even though at other times it connected at well over 100 Mbps wirelessly using just a/n type. While I was watching, it dropped down to only b/g and 13 Mbps and as soon as it did this it disappeared from iTunes again.
So what appears to be happening, at least for me, is that as the Apple TV changes its wireless connection type for whatever reason, it loses its communications with iTunes and never re-establishes the connection to iTunes, even though the Airport is showing it still connected to the network at a horrible rate.
The fix for me so far has been to force the Apple TV to connect to the Airport at 5 GHz only. Not allowing it to hop the networks on b/g.
I accomplished this on the Airport Extreme Dual-Band N Router by going here:
Airport Admin Utility>Manual Setup>Airport>Wireless tab>Wireless Options ...> Check the 5 GHz network name option> Set your 5 Ghz network name and leave the other defaults and apply the settings.
Finally, go the the Apple TV>Settings>General>Wireless network settings and select the 5 Ghz network name you just created. This forces the Apple TV to now connect to this network.
You can also force your newer Apple MacBooks to connect to this network as well, making all of these 5 GHz capable devices connect to this higher speed network.
Again, this worked for me and I just wanted to put this out there for the few others who have been dealing with the disappearing Apple TV syndrome.

Sadly AppleTV and/or iTunes are flakey i the extreme at re-establishing interrupted connections, Apple needs to sort this out.

MBP 2.2 and The Disappearing Act

So recently ive been noticing when trying to use Dashboard on a standard account of my MBP the widgets all disappear and when trying to re add them they pop up for a split second and disappear.
ive tried accessing them under anew account and the main admin account and they seem to work fine.
this is shared with 2 people, as its the main home/work/misc computer, and ive repaired permissions on that user/drive etc and is really peculiar
the system is running 10.4.10 and hasnt shown any other issues before. so im not sure what it could be.
any input or advice
Btw im not using a second or external display or any other peripherals other then the poweradapter and occasionally a mouse.
the widgets i have are usually the 4 basic default plus stickies and airline flights...all disappear and upon trying to readd them they disappear.

is there a file or preference i need to fix to regain it from always disappearing?

Boris title tool does disappearing act

Usually I use 2 monitors but one is in the shop. Now when I go to open Boris 3d title tool, the tool opens up off screen (I know this because when I use expose it comes back to my only monitor). There seems to be no way for me to get the 3d title tool to open in my one and only monitor.
I have done all of the usual stuff - trash FCP preferences, use disk utility, but no luck. Anyone run into this? Are there Boris preferences to trash?
Man, this really blows. All I had to do was alter 4 titles and I was done.
Oh, that's the way it goes.

Try rebooting with Command-Option-P-R held down. If that doesn't work, try Command-Option-O-F. When a gray screen with a prompt comes up, type:
reset-nvram (Return)
reset-all (Return)
Be sure you haven't left an adapter attached to the monitor port when doing this.

Cover Flow Disappearing Act

I am using iTunes 10 for OSX 10.6.4. I have experiencing this since using some version of iTunes 9, I can't remember when it started. Cover Flow does not show up when I am in the main window of iTunes and viewing all music. If I switch to cover flow view, the song list simply starts to occupy the upper control bar (I wish I could post a screen cap, but thanks to Apple's posting board, that isn't possible). Its quite strange. The list is simply extended upward to the top of the window, obscuring any other controls above, though it is separated by a thicker line between where you would expect the list to begin. What's truly strange is that if I am not in the "all music" view and I am looking at a playlist, cover flow works fine. Its only in all music where it goes wrong.
What I am asking the experts who are reading this is whether I can just delete a Library settings file to reset all of iTunes view settings to fix this? I am desperate to fix this as seeing this list "upwardness" is frustrating me to no end. If anyone needs to actually have a picture of what I'm talking about I can e-mail it to you or whatever.

Keep in mind you only need to repair permissions after any software updates or upgrades.

MSI x48c Network card disappearing act.

Just built 2 machines one for a friend one for me. Both identical
x48c Platinum
4GB 2x2 Corsair DHX DDR3 1660
Q9550
Visiontek HD4870
WD velociraptor 300gb
Vista Ultimate 64
Was able to get one stable working at 1600 fsb with a few clock and voltage tweaks (NOT MINE OF COURSE!)
The other has been unstable from the start
Cannot raise any voltages, getting constant restarts and bsods and finally last night - even thougyh vista installed the driver itself during installation - my network card dirver has gone...and yes i have reinstalled using setup.exe AND just the *.inf file to no avail. Any suggestions>? Anyone else seen this before?

For me, Vista pretty much self recognized the network card even before installing the chipset driver from MSI.
But download the MSI INF file again, it's pretty much all you can do.
You can go down to default settings in bios, get rid of all of the Overclocks first.
If the network card still is not recognized after multipel tries, it's pretty much safe to say the network portion of your mb might be fried.

Hiding IND CS3 with Leopard 10.5.4 (still disappearing when hidden)

Hello all...
I updated Leopard to 10.5.4 as I was told it would resolve the "disappearing act" IND CS3 does when you hide the program and then come back to it... It seemed all good for the last couple of days until I just noticed the disappearing act again just now. I'd try and bring the program to the foreground, the icon says it's there, Apple+Tab says it's there and the first program opened, but I don't see anything, despite hitting the tab key (to toggle tool boxes & palettes) or launching documents outside of the program's Open command...
anyone else?

Oh yes, happens to me too - I'm pretty sure this is Apple related as a lot of other people have had the same thing happen with other apps. I sometimes get the same thing happening with Bryce.
In my extremely-non-expert-but-completely-by-educated-guesswork opinion, it's something to do with memory.

ACT 17 Premium will not launch

Has this been working fine, until recently?Where is the location of the database?Have you tried manually browsing to the location of the database form a client computer?
Is the database location still available to the client computers with the correct permissions to read/write/etc.?As Bottman said, has the database been moved?Has the database become corrupted?Is anyone able to still open the database?I haven't even seen ACT! in a very long time, is there something that has to be setup to share a database from a central location that may need to be setup again?
Was there an update or patch recently performed either on ACT! or Windows Update, on the client computers or on the computer/location where the database resides, that may have caused problems?Have you checked any logs created by ACT! or Windows Logs for any possibly helpful...

I installed ACT 17 Premium on five (5) workstations. On one workstation Act will not load. When I click on the Act icon, a splash screen appears briefly and then disappears - Act never loads. When I open Task Manager I can see the Act!.exe process load for a split second and then go away. I have disabled the firewall and AV, and still no luck. I have uninstalled and reinstalled - with reboots in between - still no luck. Any ideas? I have reached out to Swiftpage tech support, but they are proving very unhelpful

Help - save smart folder window disappearing

Dear friends
I have a really big problem with saving smart folders : i do all the steps until I press "save" - at that point the save widow only appears for 1 second and than disappears so I am unable to specify the location where I want to same the smart folder.
I get he same disappearing act when I try to add a shared folder in the "share" menu - I press the "+", the window appears for a second and than it's gone.
Please help as this is becoming very annoying.

What you are experiencing is absolutely incorrect behavior for any OS. If you haven't already, you might start thinking about re-installing Leopard. You could try most or all of the typical troubleshooting steps first though. +i.e. Trash certain Preferences files, Repair Permissions, Reset PRAM, Unplug all devices, Log in as Guest user, Boot into Safe Mode, Check connections, Check for proper Firmware version, Un-install (clean) third party apps, Unplug power for 20 minutes, Hit the side of the case real hard....no don't do that one, etc.+ Its one thing for the data algorithm of the OS to be on the outs but when the UI elements won't operate correctly, as in your case, it sounds serious to me. Sorry I can't give you anything more specific.

Mac Pro Internal Drive randomly disappears on boot up

I have a nearly two year old Mac Pro and the non boot internal hard drive has started to randomly not appear. When it doesn't show up, I have to boot the machine from the Leopard DVD to get it to reappear. I run the disk utility and it shows no problems.
What is happening and how can I prevent this from reoccuring?

I have a very similar situation happen to me a little while back. In my case, I should have been more alert. I had to much faith in risking not backing everything of that particular HDD up. The entire disappearing act was a warning that it was failing but I thought all would be fine anyway. It kept pulling the disappearing act randomly and coming back from time to time. I don't know how it happened or what the culprit was or why but one of the HDD failed big time in the end...
I tried Disk Warrior for recovery which worked wonders the first time for me. To make a long story short, the HDD in question died and I did lose some data. I brought it back to the local vender who was very understanding and I got a complete refund. I got lucky. I since bought an extra external HDD (same brand which was Western Digital) and ALL my data is backed up now. Good luck finding your answers. I just thought I'd put in my 2 cents' worth.

Front Row Disappears

I have Front Row (1.3.1) running on an early 17-inch Intel iMac on 10.4.11, except that it is randomly disappearing. I’ve searched the message boards and Apple’s posted information without much success.
When the computer has been off for at least an hour and then booted up, Front Row works via the keyboard shortcut as well as with the remote. Anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes later Front Row won’t launch using either mode. And, the option under the System Preferences pane for Security to “Disable remote control infrared receiver” also disappears.
I have reinstalled the entire OS and applications from the ground up (wiped the drive clean). None of the applications are out of the ordinary (Adobe CS and MS Office 2008, Canon print driver, Canon scanner driver, and the rest is standard Apple apps). Prior to the clean install of everything the system wouldn’t update to Front Row 1.3.1 because it didn’t think the iMac had the infrared feature.
I don’t know when this disappearing act showed up in terms of OS or firmware updates.
Any assistance would be welcomed.

I'm not sure what to say. The fact that Front Row stops working and the option to disable the IR receiver in the Security System Preferences seem to happen at the same time would indicate to me that the IR receiver is not available to Mac OS X. I don't remember ever hearing of an application or utility that was interfering with the receiver. Some people claim that florescent lights interfere with IR signals, but (and that has resolved issues for people here), but that wouldn't interfere with the Mac's internal connection to the IR receiver.
If it continues to happen, you might want to take the computer into an Apple retail store or local Apple Authorized Service Provider for a more sophisticated check-up.
