Voice Memo file was cut - bug report

Using Voice Memo on my iPhone 4 (iOS5), I just did an interview which lasted 11m 8s (as shown just before the blue arrow on the right of the screen). I did not receive any call or message during the recording, and the phone was plugged in to power (not a computer).
I tried to play back my memo, but for several minutes it was somehow unavailable: instead of a blue "Play" button on the left, all I had were the "circling dots" indicating an ongoing transfer or activity.
Then it finally let me play the file. Here's the problem: I only get the first 3m 22s (as indicated on the right of the time slider, at the bottom of the screen during playback). The file itself still displays a proud 11m 8s. So where are those ~8 missing minutes?
After syncing with iTunes, and even trying to get the file directly via a third-party app on my Mac, all I get is a 3m 22s .mp4 file. The rest is just lost, there is no other file in the recording folder nor in iTunes—just previous memos.
That was a professional interview. It's the first time a vanilla iOS app from Apple is letting me down that bad.
I can't do that interview again. Does anyone have any idea where the missing part of the recording actually went? What happened?
Last but not least, if anyone has a suggestion for an app to replace Voice Memo, which I don't trust anymore for my work… I'll gladly take it too.
Thank you for any help on this.

  • Voice Memos File management with wireless remote hard drive

Dragging unwanted voice memos from within iTunes application to trash, then emptying trash, won't delete voice memos in the "voice memos" folder in iTunes Media on my external remote hard drive. Why not?
I manage my iTunes music from my laptop, storing the actual files in an iTunes Media folder on a hard drive connected to an Airport Extreme. The hard drive was close to full and I decided the culprit was giant voice memo files. I didn't need most of them so I dragged them to the trash from within the voice memos "playlist" in iTunes. This removed them from the playlist, but even when I emptied the trash via the Finder pull down menu, the files stayed in the actual folder on the hard disk. Disk still full. What gives?

Hi Samboni98, and a warm welcome to the forum!
You could do that, but a far better idea would be to clone the 160 to the 500, then boot from the 500 which besides beimg faster, OSX just loves lots of Free space.
Get carbon copy cloner to make an exact copy of your old HD to the New one...

You cannot update iPhone 4 to IOS 8.1.2, the highest you can update is IOS 7.1.2.

  • Poss. bug in Voice Memos tool -- how do you report to Apple?

    Hello all,
I suspect that I have found a bug in the Voice Memos tool that comes with iPhone. Does anyone know how to report this to Apple? I'm not a developer, so I can't go through the Apple Developer Connection, and the www.cqf.apple.com URL that they want non-developers to use doesn't work.
The problem seems to occur when I have been recording a long, one-hour lecture, and accidentally tap the pause button instead of stop. If I then tap the record button to get the stop button to display again and then tap the stop button as soon as it redisplays, the resulting file does not work. I'm unable to sync it down to my computer, and it won't play back in Voice Memos, even though it shows the recording length (hour, minutes, seconds) for the listed file. If I tap play in Voice Memos, it simply doesn't play; the playback bar shows it as being zero minutes. I'm also unable to trim the recording.
This has happened twice in the past ten days since I started using the tool, and I suspect that the actions of tapping pause, then play, then stop is occurring too quickly, even though these buttons are available. Perhaps with a large file like this (one-hour recordings are about 10 MB), one needs to allow the tool to get the file back into "record" mode after tapping play, but before tapping stop. Unfortunately, with the stop button available right away, it's very easy to tap it before the tool may be ready for you to stop the recording. I hope this makes sense.
I'd like Apple to look into this and perhaps consider making the stop button unavailable until the file is truly ready to be stopped. Does anyone know how to report this to them? They seem to make it so difficult.... Of course, if anyone has any thoughts on this or has had the problem too (surely I'm not crazy?), I appreciate knowing more, although I doubt there's anything I can do to fix the problem, except to avoid tapping the pause button in the first place, and if I do, go slowly and allow the tool to actually continue recording before tapping stop.
    Thanks!

  • How do I find the voice memo file stored in the backup on my computer?

I am trying to find the file on my computer for the voice memos. I tried to save the voice memo and it was deleted from my iphone 5. I am trying to retrieve it from a previous backup on my computer.

They are in the backup created by iTunes of your iPhone.
You will need a 3rd party application top get them out.
Google view iOS backup to see a bunch of apps.

  • How do I trim a voice memo file saved on a Mac?

How do I trim a voice message that has been saved as a file in the Mac's itunes music folder called voice memos?

    Is this what you're doing:
To trim the recording click the Trim Memo button. You will see a blue progress bar with a yellow handle on the left and on the right. Drag the handles to set the start and end of the clip. Press the play button to confirm it sounds ok then press the large Trim Voice Memo to finalize your cut.

  • TS3991 how to retreive deleted voice memos file via ICloud?

I  have "voice memos" on my Iphone 5 and I deleted an important voice file in it yesterday. I have Icloud and I try to find it in Icloud or other Icloud devices (a mini Ipad, an Ipad 2 and an ipod touch) but without success. Help!

hi, you can use third-party iPhone recovery program (google it) to scan your iCloud backup to see if your backup files contain your voice memo, then you can recover deleted voice memos on iPhone.
    Good luck.

  • Voice Memos Files Won't Open in Voice Memo

I'm using an iPhone 5s and the issue is with voice memo. For some reason, when someone sent me voice memos in an email, they wouldn't work and this would happen
Why is this happening now, it's never happened before and it just used to simply open it up in voice memo and work as intended. Is there any way to make that happen or is this just something with a new update and I haven't realized it until now?

It looks like the audio files are the correct type. I assume you can play back any voice memos you created on the phone? As a test to see if your email is corrupting the file can you send yourself a voice memo from one email account to another?
You could also try resetting the phone; Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset

  • Is there any way to recover a voice memo that was not backed up but accidentally deleted?

Today I accidentally deleted a very important voice memo in the blink of an eye. As I forgot to back it up I know this is probably not possible and I understand that. Is there any way to recover this?

I had exactly the same problem, I was trying with some software of wondershare but wasn't possible, so, it seems like we lost that important info!.

  • No new help file in LR5 bug report

Using either F1 or clicking the menu option, asking for help in LR5 (release version) takes you to a page for LR 4.

Yes, but if you look deeper you'll see pages that just reference LR4 eg p57 as quick example I found when looking up how LR5 upgrades existing catalogues.
Why can't this sort of detail be documented for users ? Should we really have to just blunder our way through trying to find out what's changed or where things have moved to ourselves ?
Ah, yes, I agree with you.  I hadn't seen that.  Hopefully David will be able to get the LR4 references fixed.  I used to get a copy of the help from Anita Dennis to pick up these things before release, but I haven't had time to follow that up this time.
FWIW, I always put a very detailed list of changes up on my blog, which includes as many of the little details as I can track.  Here's the LR5 changes: http://www.lightroomqueen.com/2013/04/15/whats-new-in-lightroom-5-0-beta/

  • Voice memos stored permenantly on iphone

I have 8 gigs of "other" on my phone and have been trying to get rid of it.
I now find that all the voice memos I have ever recorded are stored on the phone and I am unable to delelete them. (I have been recording lectures during two years of graduate school). They do not show up on the list of recordings in the voice memos app.--I deleted them lomg ago. They also do not/will not show up in my music library. I can not play any of them on my phone through any means ie playlists or individual recordings. I have now deleted the memos from my computer's library so I know they are not being synced from my computer. They are obviously stored on the iphone.
The way I know they are still on the phone is by looking at "on this phone" in the new itunes OS 11. Here they are all listed under MUSIC---450 of them. I cannot delete them through this view. How do I get these recordings off my phone?
    Thank you

Going to have to reply to myself here:
I solved the problem by downloading iexplorer (free demo) and was able to delete voice memo files which were stored under media > recordings. Took a half hour-- iexplorer crashes if you try to delete more than 4 or 5 files at a time.
When I finished, the 8 gigs of "other" were gone!!!! Strangly, I can still see the files in itunes through "on this phone" > music. BUT no more 8+ gigs of "other"

  • Voice Memos won't sync to iTunes anymore

So for some reason when I sync my iPhone 3G, the voice memos won't sync to my iTunes library.
The "Sync voice memos" box is checked and older voice memos from April and before synced in the past.
Now there's just a Voice Memos folder under my iPhone Tab and the new voice memos won't appear in my iTunes Library at all.
I want to convert them to Mp3 but that option is grayed out under the iPhone Voice Memos folder.
Is this just a bug? I recently bought a new computer running Windows 7, so I'm wondering if this is a common issue with iTunes?
    Any suggestions?

Even though this topic is considered answered, my Voice Memos weren't syncing and the software update didn't fix it. So, I did this:
    1) I backed up and synced my ipod
    2) deleted the voice memos playlist in iTunes (my playlist was empty already)
    3) deselected "include voice memos" under the Music tab
    4) clicked "Apply"
    5) when sync was done, shut down iTunes
    6) disconnected and reconnected iPhone and restarted iTunes
    7) reselected "include voice memos" under the Music tab
    8) clicked "Apply"
A new Voice Memo playlist was created with my voice memos in iTunes.
It's possible you can skip the step of deleting the playlist. I was just trying everything I could think of to get it going again. Maybe you can skip the whole first half and just shut down iTunes and reconnect device and sync again! So try and let us all know.
I think what was happening - and why it will work for some to upgrade their software - was because I had an iPod Touch with 3.1 syncing memos to iTunes before. Maybe the iPhone with ios 4 couldn't sync to the folder already created?

  • Voice memos only viewable on iPhone 6

This is my second iPhone 6. There was an issue with the first and I exchanged it. Before doing so I did a backup on my MBP. Now when I connect the phone to iTunes, the only voice memos displayed, both in iTunes and on the phone, are the ten or so from the earlier phone. These are also on my newer phone, but I have a dozen or so others I've added and I can't see them except in Voice Memos on the phone itself.
    Help?

  • Voice Memos won't sync

I have two newly recorded voice memos that won't sync to iTunes. I have no issues syncing other voice memos, it is just with these two specific files. Is there a way to "force" iTunes to sync these files? Alternatively, is there another way to get these files onto my PC (they are apparenly too big to email or message directly from the Voice Memos app).
